Mmmmm Korean!

Came here with a small group. One of our group members happened to be Korean so we let her do all the ordering. We had Woo Chon's Premium Galbi - Thick cuts of boneless Black Angus Rib in our marinade. So delicious! My friend noticed they were not bringing out all the traditional  sides and asked the hostess why. I guess because a few of us were Caucasian they thought the flavors would be a bit too strong for us. Bring it on! The hostess brought out all the remaining sides. The meat was so tender it melted in your mouth and the Kim Chi was heavenly.

Great service and possibly the best quality beef I've had at Korean BBQ!

to Start I Had the squid pancake, it was decent but I've had better.

I enjoyed the little appetizer bowls they give you, standard stuff, except the apples covered in some type of cream and these other rice logs with a orange slightly sweet sauce. The Kim Chi tasted a bit off.

Main dish was hot pot with pork, spinach, rice and a long thing yellow mushroom. It was really good.

The servers all served me so it was good I could just flag down any one of them that walked by, this seemed a bit odd to me, it's unique, but I don't mind.

The price was a bit high I think with tip this was $32 and I only had water to drink.

So for our first dinner in NYC, I really wanted to have some authentic Korean food to keep it light and not ruin the early night. After walking around a bit, we Yelped this place and thought we'd give it a shot. Luckily, we were not disappointed.

Our waitress was extremely helpful and friendly and guided a couple of noobs through the menu. Selina liked the japchae (I'm not a fan), the Dak Gui was really good, and the Junju Gopdol bibimbop completed the meal quite nicely. We also got a kimchi pajun on the house but it was rubbery and reheated and seemed as though it had been sitting around for a while.

The food was probably a little too expensive but the service more than made up for it. 3.5-4 stars.

Strolled in to here for lunch today with a couple of friends and I have to say I'm incredibly glad to have found it.

The salad that was brought out first was fairly bland - iceberg lettuce with what tasted like creamy french dressing.

The customary Korean sides they brought out next were quite tasty, however, including some excellent kimchi.

Two of us had the bulgogi and we were both very taken with it. A lot of bulgogi I've had overdoes it on the sweet, but this incarnation had just enough with a small hint of savory. It's easy to find bulgogi that's sliced too thinly giving the beef a stringy quality, but the meat here was cut and cooked to perfection.

My friend said his seafood bibimbop was a tad dry, but otherwise was happy with the dish.

Strangely enough we seemed to have the only server in the place that didn't seem happy to be there and she seemed to be rushing us through. She wasn't rude per se, just oddly curt when compared to the other servers.

Overall this was an excellent experience and I owe Yelp a debt of gratitude for pointing me here.

This place has the best quality bulgogi bip bim bop I've had in the city. Great place, very comfortable and open space.  The high quality of the sirloin is somewhat unexpected: Tender, thinly sliced, and delicious! This is my new "go-to" korean restaurant!

So far, this is my favorite Korean restaurant in Manhattan.  The kimchi jigae, yukgae jang, and sulong tang are all fabulous.  They also serve quite a bit of banchan to round out the meal and are overall pretty good, though the kimchi they serve on the side is not the best -- usually not ripe enough (common in most restaurants).

Service is consistently good, and while the restaurant interior is not as "nice" or upscale as say Woo Lae Oak in Soho, it's a great traditional spot for classic Korean dishes and BBQ.

This was one of the first places I ate at when i moved to NYC, I was in need of some good, authentic K-food after spending the large majority of my summer in Korea!

I think I frequented this place 2 or 3 times a week! The entire staff is super friendly and the Older Woman is amazing, she is so kind and always remembers you!!

This place is extremely good! The Kalbi Tang here is amazing as is the Samgyetang-- They also have extremely good mushroom mandoo!

My only gripe about this place is the prices--a bit high but usually worth it--But i haven't been back in a while since they are on the expensive side!

I would probably be back more for drunk eats but It does close early for a K-town joint around 2 or 3am!

This place is a great place to go with a large group of friends or if you want to try Korean food for the first time! Everything I have ever had here has been delicious and the staff is very helpful with any recommendations you may need!!

I almost forgot to mention--Try the green tea or red bean ice cream here--some of the best stuff i've tried!!

I passed by this place on a run and visited around the time it first opened. Initial impression was good. The menu selection was decent, with some more traditional foods and soups, such as pike and monk fish with spicy red sauce. They also had regular things such as bi bim bap and jap chae. The pan chan was varied and service was friendly, but a bit slow.

I went back a month later and the service was slightly better, the pan chan changed, and the menu had grown a tiny bit. The one thing I noticed was that they started giving some free things. We got soon tofu for free this time, and I was hooked ever since.

Since then, I come here regularly. I usually get something for free and enjoy the small atmosphere and family friendly service you get. They have added a hot plate to cook your own meat, accompanied with lettuce leaves, sliced garlic, and salt and pepper dip, much like you would get in Los Angeles. Not only does that really bring it a step above other Korean restaurants in the city, but the excellent and fresh pickled vegetables are at least as good as it's So. Cal counterpart. They top off your meal with a tasty sweet cinnamon drink with some pine nuts floating on top.

This has become my favorite Korean restaurant in the city.

We got the upstairs again w/ 14ppl. This place is optimal for large private parties, as all you'll be hearing is your own echo. The resty is usually empty but I made a resy anyway.  It's been awhile since I've gone, but either my palate has gotten more refined or the food has deteriorated. Got 2 orders of the premium kalbi ($28/ea). You only get 6 chunks of beef per order, but very tasty. At least the don't give you the short rib kalbi or the kalbi where they unroll the meat off a big bone. We also ordered the skirt steak, bulgogi, seafood pancakes, and jae yuk bokum w/ tofu. Sesame oil & salt w/ the skirt steak is a heavenly match.  Some left hungry and were ready for a 2nd dinner. Not sure if I'll be back, esp with so many restys to choose from in the immediate area. Prices have risen since the last time i went. I'm taking back one star, as you can hit Luger's for $60.

Total came out to $57/pp after everything

I took my foodie meetup here:

I have to give my boyfriend props for his own Yelp skills in finding this amazing place. Probably the most relaxing and decently priced korean barbecue place you'll find in the area! The bbq is $25+ and there's definitely enough meat in one order to feed two people. The waitstaff is incredibly attentive, which is understandable considering how present the owner herself is. Nothing like an adorable little Korean lady making sure sure your bibimbop is mixed just right to make you wanna get totally wasted on Hite and inappropriately yell WOOOOOOOOO at your date.

+ The male waiters are total babes!!!!!!!!!

Actually 4.5 stars if I could.

The lunch at Woo Chon is an incredible deal. Lunch specials range from $8 to $12 and Combo Lunches are $15. You usually get better deals/service/quality, when you stray away from the main K-town strip on 32nd. Woo Chon is one of them. Too many of the restaurants on the main strip use MSG and it gives me a headache.

The waitstaff is very attentive and friendly. Most of them speak English so it makes ordering and asking questions a lot easier. I really like the waitstaff there. They actually go the extra mile to make you happy which is a bonus. The waitress noticed the pen to sign the check wasn't "clicked" so she actually came over and clicked it for me while I was holding it. I thought that was really cute and gave me a laugh.

What I find really funny at this place is that they mark which dishes are "American" palate friendly. I have no idea how they gauge this but funny to see what they picked.

I think after seeing all the critical reviews on their banchan (free appetizers) on yelp they really stepped it up.The Banchan I had were fresh, plentiful and they're happy to refill your plates. They're very generous. When I dine there alone they usually bring 4-5 plates and voluntarily ask if I'd like refills.

I always get the Wooguji Kalbi Tang (Beef Short ribs in a spicy soup with radish stalks) and it comes with rice. The dish is deliciously boiling over when it's brought to your table. It's a lot of food and it's delicious. The short ribs are so tender, the meat practically melts off the bone and in your mouth!! The dish is surprisingly light and comes with lots of veggies (radish & radish stalks) in it. They say it's spicy but it's really not - it's just right.

The 'American Palate" version of this dish is the Kalbi Tang (Beef Short rib in a clear soup)  - basically without the spice and radish stalks. It's delicious but once you had their Wooguji Kalbi Tang it's a tough sell.

What's also great is their Pajun (Scallion Pancakes). Get the Seafood Pajun. At other restaurants it only comes in one size and huge (about $14) but at Woo Chon you can select S, M, L size (starting at $5) so it's nice to have that option and it's tasty.

They have a selection of deserts but they give you a 1/8 of an orange for free.

No better place to smell like BBQ, even though the food was disappointing

Came here w/ Jeff C.'s group. We had like 14 ppl this time. Literally had the small room near the front of the 2nd floor all to ourselves.

We ordered:

Scallion seafood pancake - a lot of oil, a lot of scallion, barely any seafood

Chap Jae - Good, but very similar (even in taste) to Chinese vermicelli, only thicker

Premium Kalbi - I remember this to be really tender last time I was here. I had to ruin the memory by coming back. It was only average

Cod fish - pretty good, oily fish. My favorite if there was one for that night.

Shrimp - Okay, my other favorite

Spicy pork - Not that good

Total came out to like $50 a person. Was not really worth it. The panchan was very limited. Portions were small and service was sparse. Our scallion pancake took forever to come out. And then when they were cooking the meat for us, a lot of times, they were on the verge of charring the meat because they didn't come around to flip the meats fast enough. Thanks for not giving us the tongs. We finally got our hands on a pair and did the work ourselves.

Lower the price, better consistency w/ their kalbi, and better panchan (more and more variety) That's what this place needs to improve on for me to give them back their 4 stars.

I really don't understand why its not as good as last. Definitely a consistency issue with this place.

I love Korean food, and in the past my approach was always to just stumble along 32nd street.  Friday, however, I did my homework and tried this place out.  It was fantastic!  Everything we had was first rate.  The kalbi and jap chae are not to be missed here.  This will be my new go to Korean place in midtown.

Thoroughly enjoyed dinner here. I'm afraid we went in with a friend who was so hungry that we ordered way too much food, but c'est la vie.

We had Bulgogi BBQ Rib Eye and then another kind of BBQ Squid (something beginning with an "O") that were cooked on the little stove in our table.  We also had amazing shitake dumplings that I will remember for a long time.  The cold tofu with lemon soy -- not so fab.  Cooking the squid... that was wild. The top part of the squid is stuffed with the tentacles and spices and vegetables, then the whole thing is grilled. The waitstaff comes by with scissors & cuts it up, stirs it around.  Very interesting.

We ordered rice, too, but that didn't come. I forgot to check if we were charged for it.

Hite beer doesn't taste much different than Bud.

Service is outstanding. The owner/manager is passionate about her business and the waitstaff try to accommodate every need, although the language differences can be difficult, they still have a smile and a positive attitude that is infectious.

One of the better Korean restaurants in the city. Everything was very tasty and the service was just great! After we asked for more kimchi, they kept a close eye on the table and were quickly giving us more side dishes as we needed, even without us having to ask!

I would give this place 5 stars, but there are so many equally great Korean restaurants in Queens, that I have to reserve that rating for a place that really amazes me. Yes, I know, I'm spoiled when it comes to good Asian food :)

I really, really love the food here. I get the bulgogi box regularly to satisfy my beef cravings and get my iron fix.

The service is always efficient and friendly.

I give Woo Chon 3 stars due to the lack of windows -- and a very funny experience that I still chuckle about today:

A coworker ordered dumplings that did not come...after 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes. Finally we asked where they were and she looked surprised: "dumplings? Oh, sorry, not today." NOT TODAY? Why didn't she tell us that when we ordered?

(A couple days ago, so specifics elude me...  but...)

- pemium kalbi was great!  totally fantastic.
- kimchi pancake was a total letdown
- banchan wasn't so exciting.  it was okay, but not great.  it did have two of those chewy rice sticks, though, which I adored!
- shitake dumplings were okay.  tasty, but not great.

all in all, a fine meal, but not really worth the $80 it cost.  think I'll stick with kun jip or the 35th St tofu place instead....

Woo Chon sits a few blocks outside of the heart of K-town, but the food is excellent. The bulgogi really did satisfy our meat-craving, especially with the salt and sesame sauce on the side. We also ordered the kimchi pancake and japchea as sides.

Service was good - waiters were quick to respond and very accommodating, though English is a bit lacking.

Korean food can be expensive so I generally stick to Woorijip, but after reading the good reviews here I decided to check Woo Chon out.  I was impressed with the menu and the number of lunch options under $10. The banchan was excellent.  Mmm.  Banchan.  I noticed a gentleman dining alone at a table nearby and it was nice to see that he got ample banchan as well.  We didn't have a chance to try a ton of stuff, but what we did try was delicious.  The Sun Dubu Jigae was warming and filling. The perfect combo for a cold fall day.

We had a little trouble getting the Yelp coupon for a free appetizer to work.  Our waiter wasn't familiar with the deal and he told us it was only for dinner. Looking at the terms the coupon does say that it's for all day long if you order an entree.  My friend brought this up with him in Korean, he spoke to his boss and then relented.  Ain't nothin wrong with a free appetizer, so give it a shot.

The following questions must be asked in the voice that Margaret Cho uses when channeling her mother:  Areh you... Ko-rean?  Do...youeh speakeh... Ko-rean?  No?  Do... youeh want-ta to eatta goodeh Ko-rean foodeh?  (Apologies to Ms. Cho - I met her at an event years ago in LA when we were both modeling for Mr. S in a fashion show... She complimented the boots I was wearing, but I was so flustered - I had been listening to her Drunk With Power CD in my car on the drive up!  But that's another story...)

Okay:  This place http://www.woochon.com is where I learned to eat Korean food, over a 7 year stretch of traveling back and forth to my little apartment in the Manhattan, in the Atlas Building, in Midtown, of Project Runway [reality TV] "fame".  I sought refuge here when I was jet-lagged, out late, starving and in need of a major protein buzz... or just in need of something light and still scrumptious.   I've eaten here... dozens of times, and never been disappointed.  Plus, I don't believe any of the grilling experiences ever left me smelling like a dog treat.

Woo Chon is open 24 hours a day... and they have a quirky little shrine of signed headshots of people who've eaten there... but even if I'd been sitting next to somebody famous, I probably would have been too blissed out, eyes happily fixed upon the table before me to notice.

I've dined here solo, and with friends.  And even when I rolled in at 3:00am by myself, they still set at least a DOZEN banchan - those delightful mini-appetizer/salad/accompaniment thingies in the palm-sized, porcelain white bowls.  Since I also have the misfortune of being allergic to chile (No kimchee for you!) they kindly offered to make substitutions and give me doubles of some of the milder pickles and other marinated goodies, instead of simply giving me fewer dishes.

When I used to be in full-blown Atkins mode, I could still never finish a single order of their Galbi, at $24.95 - a generous portion of grilled, marinated, meaty goodness... accompanied by the dozen banchan that ranged from: marinated bean sprouts, seasoned cucumber, marinated dried fish - freaky but delicious, by the way  - pickled radish, a little potato salad, toasted strips of nori, and a constant rotations of others.

This last weekends storm made me pine for the Congee - basically a mellow, rice porrige with bits of minced abalone in it - Junbok Jook - listed rather deceptively as an appetizer for $13.95.   I used to order this dish on chilly Fall evenings, and request an extra egg or two, on the side (I think they'd charge me $1.00 each) to crack into the volcanic crock as it was served.  Throwing in that extra egg made it much heartier, with more stick to your ribs staying power.

Yes, there are lots of Korean patrons... ranging from local merchants to very fraternally inclined young men, who gather to drink beer and grill meat at 2:00 in the morning.

That said, it always bothers me, when people write about how they "saw a bunch of X's eating at this place, ergo: this must be a good place for X cuisine!"  Even my backwater relatives from West Virginia (with apologies to West Virginians... if any of them have internet access) would know not to try "Mexi-can food" at a roadside roach coach, simply because a bunch of illegal immigrants (that's right, I said it - I got an immigration attorney, stood in line and got a Green Card and became naturalized; it ain't rocket science!) are lined up to eat there.

Wow... I don't know where that burst of anger came from.  Probably because my blood sugar is low... and I still haven't found a Korean BBQ joint that can hold a candle to Woo Chon out here in the East Bay!

The service is excellent, the facilities are clean and tidy; the food is generously proportioned, fresh and a nearly unbeatable value for an authentic, sit-down dining experience in Manhattan... you really can't do better for the money.

Located a few blocks from Koreatown proper, Woochon is one of the older Korean restaurants around (according to my friend Dave, who also once told me that the earth is only 5 million years old, so take that as you will).

As we walked in, I noticed right away that:

1. There were many Koreans dining here.
2. There were a lot of large groups.
3. There were flies all over the area where our table (for 18) was set up.

As for the food- pretty darn good. Not a big fan of beef tongue, but I ate it. And surprisingly, it tasted pretty good (I'm sure that's what the tongue thought too as it was sliding down my throat). Korean BBQ meats of unknown origin were also ingested. mmm. I also ate a great little banchan (small appetizer dish) that looked like pickles in hot sauce. Goood.

Oh, and about the flies: Not sure how old the flies were, or if maybe they had been buzzing around the tables and sampling from the numerous glasses of beer and soju, but I used one of my fists of fury to actually snag one Mr. Miyagi style, only without chopsticks. It was quite a feat. Then I wiped the fly guts off on my napkin.

Enjoy!

Great, unexpected dining experience at Woochon.  Lists rather high on my Korean restaurant rankings.

I took a friend of mine from out of town to Woochon on a weeknight, not really expecting much.  We ordered the basic stuff: Sulungtang and Yukgaejjang.

Well, it started out with the Banchan.  Their selection was not only good, but also tasted great.  Fresh, not like some places that serve stale crap.

Service was great, but we were there during early hours - just after work - so I can't speak about their service during peak hours.  But to be fair - to the Korean wait staff - there is no tipping in Korea.  No, that's not a bad joke, Koreans don't tip.  Not necessarily because we are cheap, but because it's just not something we do over there in the Motherland.

That may explain the general lack of service at most Korean restaurants.  Most of the wait staff in K-Town don't speak English very well and they are probably accustomed to Korean ways.  Which means that when you - as the customer - want something, you grab their attention and ask for it.  Don't be shy.  Haha, yes, we Koreans are a bunch of barbarians.  But we came up with some tasty-ass foods, man.  You can't deny.

This place reminds me of lots of the old school Koreans places in LA. They serve the best sides here.. and LOTS of it too. The service is also excellent.. nice Korean ladies who have no qualms about topping up your endless requests for more kimchi, more kimchi, more eggplant, please. You also do not stink when you walk out of here.. unlike if you went to Seoul Garden.

Fantastic kalbi tang (soup with noodles). Possibly the best I've had. The meat was boiled into a rip-apart-able state, but still hella tasty. B liked the bbq kalbi, but I felt like it tasted a little gamey/funky. I'd recommend this place for the kalbi tang, but I think I'll stick to Don's Bogam for the bbq.

Thanks for the rec. Dan!

What can I say about this place but, Wow.. What an amazing dinner we had their last night..   From drunken start to drunken finish, we ate like kings... We started out with Pajun, pancakes mixed with either seafood or kimchi.. Since they are made upon request, we asked for a mixed Seafood and Kimchi Pajun.. It came out hot, crispy, and filled with a lot of seafood. Although, it could have been drained of the oil a little more, it still was really good..

We then moved on to the BBQ.. Although, I prefer when places use charcoal, here they use a cast iron domed grill surface.. We had the kalbi, the pork belly, and the beef toungue in the opposite order..  My favorite being the pok belly.. It came out as two thick slices of belly.. They grilled for a little and then cut with a scissors into pieces.. All the meats were very good, but what really made everything were the sides.. The head lady that worked their took a liking to us I think after we ordered the mix Panjun.. She was so sweet and was bringing us all these things out of the back.  There was this super aged kimchi that was an extremely dark color, there was also these leaves that were super aged in a fish mixture, there were maybe another 4 or 5 different kimchis that were not on the menu I believe..

On top of the BBQ we also ordered Bibim- Bop that came in a stone bowl and was really tasty.. Sorry I dont remember everything, the night, she is a little cloudy.. But it was excellent..

Its a little early, but I can say this was the best experience I have had at a Korean Restaurant in Manhattan.. I am looking forward to going back and trying there house made noodles.

A group of us came here to celebrate the birthday of Dave S. (not a yelper. yet...) last night. Upon arrival we were taken upstairs to a private room. Place settings and sauces had already been laid out. Dave did everyone the honor by ordering for the table. We had endless bottles of beer flowing and a few bottles of soju being passed around.

We had beef tongue, kalbi, kimchi with tofu and sliced pork, seafood pancake, japchae and of course, lots and lots of banchan. Everything was very very delicious and the seafood pancake was the best I have tasted in NYC.

This place only gets 4 stars because all the flies that live upstairs flew off with the 5th one. I mean, wtf. Why were there so many flies!?!

Woochon is a real authentic Korean restaurant.  I know.  Because I came here with real Koreans.  One of them was my boss, and he's hella Korean.  They even have a private room upstairs, where if you're Korean enough, you can smoke and eat at the same time.  And unlike a lot of the newer, trendier restaurants on 32nd street, you can tell that Woochon has been here for a while.

I came here with my coworkers for my farewell dinner.  According to my coworkers, this place is known as one of the oldest restaurants in K-Town.  They're also known for their Kalbi, which was five stars worth of thick and tender.  Unfortunately, the rest of the restaurant falls flat.  And as Jen D. mentioned, there are a freakish amount of flies in the dining area.  Despite these caveats, Woochon is a great place for meatlovers.

I dig Woo Chon for Korean BBQ. It's not super-duper or anything, but its definitely some quality roasted meats. Their Mandoo Gui & Japchea are serviceable as appetizers - not the best Japchea ever but it's pretty ok. They also have a sushi bar, but I've not gone there yet.

The highlight is the Galbi and Bugulgi. Succulent little bits of roasted meats cooked in the center of your table by attentive & friendly wait staff (but since it's right there you can keep an eye on it yourself too). The best thing about it is going with a group, ordering a bunch of this stuff and some beers & soju on the upstairs level, where they have quite a few large tables to accommodate groups. Smaller parties are usually seated in the smaller downstairs area. But the meat is still good! The Yang Bugulgi (lamb) is also worth a go. Not to mention they bring about 15 little side plates, including several kinds of very authentic & yummy kimchee, to accompany your meat.

Go!

Update 11/10/07: I went today with my mom for lunch and it was the best.  We ordered the mandoo soup and it was great!  What's more, the waitress kept on coming to our table with new banchan and we we asked for refills, they were so gracious.  I'm so full that I can't even think about dinner right now.

This place is sort of removed from K-town since it's on 36th Street but don't let that prevent you from coming here.  They have great service and their food is pretty good, I think better than the restaurants on 32nd Street.  Their mandoo soup is really, really good.  I got another friend hooked on it.

It's also not as crowded which I like so you should definitely give this place a try.

Whenever I would bug my Korean co-worker about getting a chance to try his native cuisine, he would always answer that I had to go to New York City to get quality Korean food. So I did just that and forged my way to Woo Chon. I was heartily welcomed by the hostess/owner and her staff who, upon finding out that this was my first foray into Korean food, were very accommodating in answering my [probably inane] questions. Going for an early Saturday lunch was certainly advantageous in being able to receive the full attention of the staff since there were no other patrons at that time.

The food itself.... I ordered a seafood pajun, bulgogi, and kimchi jigae. What a delightful feast. Lots of beautiful colors and it all had that "fresh" taste. There were spicy and sour and sweet, hot and cold, overall just a wonderful juxtaposition of sights, smells, and tastes. Some of the stuff I didn't even know what it was, but it looked so good I just had to eat it all; needless to say, my mouth and stomach were thankful.

Of course, this being my introduction to Korean cuisine, I personally cannot vouch for its authenticity and I have no standards with which to compare my meal. All I can say is that I was extremely  pleased with the entire operation at Woo Chon. The only downside was that it was certainly not cheap. However, perhaps if I try other Korean restaurants I may find that the cuisine and experience at Woo Chon is worth the price, so I will not hold that against them.

The food, menu, and atmosphere of this restaurant are all exactly what I wanted when I searched for a Korean restaurant in New York. My waiter was also super helpful and friendly, offering help and also giving my friend and I time to chat on our own. After a day of city bustle, this restaurant really makes me feel good. Also, we went at six o'clock on a Friday and we were the only ones there for a while. Diners new to Korean food will also feel welcomed here. Yum!

Look, I'm not claiming to be an expert on Korean BBQ or anything.  In fact, Woo Chon is the only place I've ever tried in this neighborhood.  All I'm saying is that, it will ever remain the only place I try in this neighborhood.  Bring a big group, get one of everything, and see for yourself.

Note - The last few times have been a little less than 4 star and I'm putting this on credit watch negative. Not downgrading yet, but I'm on top of the deteriorating fundies. P.S.... I still love the Grandma who runs the show, but I sense some slippage.

This has been my main stay Kalbi place for the last few years I've been in NYC. Though I just went last night with some more adventurous friends(read above to see his review) and we had a wonderful meal. First off, I must say the sweet lady who runs the place is so kind and really took care of us last night. Aside from her usual sweet demeanor she took the time to give us what I'd call a Kimchi flight, from one day old to 3 and half year old, though my favorite weas the baby kimchi. As usual the Gopdol Kimchi Bibimbap was awesome and we decided to get a mixture of a seafood/kimchi pajeon which was better than I had remembered. Of course the Kalbi rocked, as its still my favorite in the city(we went with the Prime Angus this time and it was marbley and yummy), but also had a tasty fresh Sam Gyup Sal, which came as two huge pork bellies, which they later scissored up. Also the beef tongue was good and fun to try something new. Overall this place has less hubbub than the places on 32nd, so perhaps thats why I keep coming back.........

This place is great. We had our Christmas luncheon here and the food is fantastic.  Great service, we had our own area and they opened up the second floor for us. I highly recommend the lamb, but the beef and chicken are good as well. None of us left here hungry. Tons of food.

Food is good and very authentic. It beats all the restaurants on 32nd bet 5th and b'way. I have been coming here since i was a child. My only complaint is that the prices have been raised in a time where the dollar is shrinking. Also the mandoo gui has been raised in price but you get 5 pieces instead instead of the usual 6. All in all, i highly recommend this place for their dishes except for the bbq cause i haven't ever tried it.

I really liked this place. I had the bibim bop which was really good. The kimchee was also really good. I'd definitely recommend the restaurant.
