Garlic in EVERYTHING saucy! Yummm!!!
This place was pretty good considering I'm not big on Chinese food AND I've been eating Chinese food all week for New Years.
Get the Salt and Pepper Pork Chops, Fish Filet with Sauce, Won Ton soup and Green Beans.
I love it when I can see the salt/MSG on fried foods. It tastes soooo much better when it hits your tongue. Don't forget to gnaw the batter off the pork chop bones either, that's where all the salt is at!
And, this place is run by Chinese people from Vietnam. That means they got Vietnamese ice coffee which you totally need after consuming all that MSG. YUMMMY!
ps. Cash only and NO ATM inside.

My husband introduced me to Won Ton House a couple months ago. I was really skeptical at first because the place looks like a hole in the wall. Plus I thought the food was going to be "too country" for my taste. Boy was I WRONG. This is hand down one of my favorite Chinese restaurants.
My Favorites:
Beef Tomato - It's like an explosion of tomato, beef and ketchup in my mouth. (I'm sure they don't use ketchup but it sort of has a sweet taste - like ketchup)
Won Ton Soup - I'm super picky about any type of Asian soup (ramen, pho, wonton, etc). If something tastes "off" to me I won't eat it. However, I love the soup at Won Ton House. The broth is nice and salty (but not too salty) with subtle flavoring. And, of course, the won ton's are excellent.
Beef and Broccoli - The best gravy ever!
Chinese Broccoli - I usually don't like the oyster sauce most restaurants put on Chinese broccoli. Not the case at Won Ton house.
Please note that these guys use a lot of MSG in their food. However, I think this is what makes their food so freakin' tasty, so bring it on!
One thing to note is that they don't accept credit cards, so bring cash.

The food at this place is good for the money. It's definitely no Panda Express or PF Chang's. Most of the stuff on the menu are regular chinese (hongkong) food found back home. It's a very laid-back, mum & pop type of place. Their dry wonton noodles are never overcooked and they still have a light bouncy texture when you take a bite. The portions are generous and great value for money.
As for one of the reviews from Toshinobu K. claiming of being shortchanged or having mysterious amounts showing up on credit card bills... Firstly, I've NEVER experienced being shortchanged after going there for 6 years, and secondly, THEY ONLY TAKE CASH!

One of my favorite places to grab a late night meal. This is one of the few Chinese restaurants that's open really late in this area. Don't expect a fancy place where you would take your gf on date. Food is cheap and its really good for the price. I've never sat down to eat, so I can't comment on the service. I've always get my food to go.
Have only done take out here, never dine in, but the food is great.
I love wontons, and the broth here is very savory.
Prices are excellent, as are the portions.
Braised noodles w/ roast duck is one of our favorites.
Service quite friendly.

When my sister graduated from SCU back in 1995, we went to the baccalaureate mass on Friday. For those of you SCU folks, there's a reception after that where they serve champagne, strawberries, and goodies. I was 16 at the time, and I decided to drink up -- on an empty stomach. Not a good idea.
I puked in the garbage can of Won Ton house before we ate there because of the alcohol. This place brings back fond memories, and the food is pretty decent. ;-)

I've been coming here for years. This is definitely "country style" chinese food, so if you're looking for Panda Express-style sweet sour pork and beef broccoli, go elsewhere.
Here you'll find yummy noodle soups (the won tons are expectedly good) and hardcore dishes like braised tripe over rice which I LOVE.
The portions are large, prices cheap and although the food can be a bit heavy on the oil and grease, it's certainly authentic and worth a visit.

My family and friends local favorite for chineee foo.... haha. I've been going to this place forever. The portions are big, the prices low, and the service is friendly. The owner knows our name and always has a big smile on her face to welcome us. Whether you eat there or order to go, you know the food won't disappoint. This place is no PF Chang's but I see that as a good thing!
I've been a repeat customer of Won Ton House for a couple years now, after a friend keyed me on to the place. As with any Hong Kong BBQ noodle house place, they have the BBQ pork, roast duck, etc over noodles or rice, plus the more traditional Chinese fare like kung pao and sweet and sour.
My preference is for the bbq stuff, the pork and roast duck range from very good to fabulous (as is true with every bbq place I've ever been to) and their pan-fried noodles are greasy and tasty, the way I like 'em. Soups are tasty and go well with the bbq toppings.
My wife tends towards the more traditional, and Won Ton House does these well too. Sweet and sour pork and walnut prawns are amazing, they really have the right breading and are fried perfectly, and the sauces are nicely done. Nothing fusion or bizarre, just traditional Chinese-American tastes.
Other great dishes: clay pot, Singapore chow main, salt and pepper squid (not on the menu, but it's easy 'nuf for them to make), bbq pork fried rice. I haven't had a bad dish here yet, and I've been many, many times.
Decor is basic, if a little ratty and dusty. The lady who waits is nice, but not overly-friendly.
Overall, this is one of my favorite Hong Kong BBQ places (up there with Joy Luck Place in Cupertino and Chez Mayflower in Milpitas, and the now long lost Food Street in Mtn View.) Give it a try.
Those who walk into this place expecting clean tables and good service are misguided. This place is straight from a Chinatown alley, meaning ambiance and cleanliness isn't a factor. You have dolla? They make.
But this is part of the dying charisma of this place-- and places like it that stick to their guns, not giving into the Cali-fusion-cuisine-crap-trend .
The portions are big, prices are reasonable and the guy who takes your order also owns the place. Depending on the night, he's also the chef.
Whether you want crab legs or lemon chicken, this place has it. It's also open late, which adds to it's character.
Feel like a big bowl of roast duck porridge? Won Ton House has it . Want fancy napkins, Muzak, and decorations taking up valuable plate space? Go to PF Changs.

This is a dive on the El Camino. They are open until midnight, so this is a great place to get your chinese food fix late at night. The portions are large and everything is made to order.

Wow, I didn't know that many Won Ton House employees Yelp too. Correction: they do not accept credit cards, they are cash only. If they are to accept credit cards, I am sure they would still overcharge people.
Note: I have no problems with their food or service, it's their business ethics I have issues with.
===============================
This place used to be my favorite, I know the best dishes to order, I know the chef, and I have friendly conversations with the owner. That is until they started to short-change me. I am a loyal customer to this joint, yet they still give me the wrong change everytime I pay. When confronted, the owner doesn't even apologize; he just shoves the rest of the money into my palm. I always leave a good tip (at least 20%), but consistently trying to rip people off is not a good business strategy. I took a Japanese family to this restaurant one time, and they insisted on paying, so they did. Not wanting to count money infront of me, they took the change and put it in their pockets. I immediately sensed that the change was wrong, sure enough, the owner decided to short-change us again! It was not a nice gesture to discuss money when someone else is paying, but I have had it with this place. I am warning everyone who is reading this post to NOT go to this restaurant; they will double bill you, they will short change you, and mysterious amounts will show up on your credit card bill from this establishment. I used to recommend this place to my friends, but not anymore, and to my deal Yelp friends, this is a sincere cry to not let this restaurant scam anyone else. Yes, they have good food, but it is not worth the headache trying to clear up the change or your credit card bill after eating here.

I used to love the Food Street affliate of this dive on Castro Street in Mtn. View. Hot, tasty bowls of broth soup noodles balanced with veggies and roast duck warm your whole insides and reasonably priced.
Nowadays, their Santa Clara locale is an excellent location for me to phone my take out order ahead of time and get a whole meal for $7.00 on my way home from work. This includes a soup of the day, generous portions of hot rice, Chinese veggies (usually Chinese brocoli w/oyster sauce and chicken and mushrooms. (Other choices of meat are available too).
In a sentence, good hot food at a reasonable price.
yo, this place sucked. i got some combination special:
the table was dirty
the spoon for the soup had a piece of dried lettuce or something stuck to it
the soup was nasty but the best part.
the veggies were odd as hell and disgusting without the sauce
the main course was what looked like pig intestine with some mushrooms. it was horrible. maybe i picked a bad dish but maybe they should specify what a white bro might like and might not. sick.
ps. found 2 bonez in my chicken. all bad.

First off...if you are truly a "regular" at Won Ton Noodle House you'll know that you'll never have a problem being overcharged on your credit card because they don't accept credit cards! CASH ONLY! Anyways, yeah, this is no frills, but its not about the decor, its about the food right? What do you prefer, pretty linen tablecloths and a pretty fish tank and a host to seat you and you get to eat overpriced mediocre chinese food? They are super friendly in this place, we've been coming here for years, and the owner and his wife are super cool. The other waitress is just as cool and if you're a regular, you'll feel like you're getting star treatment from her! Good rice plates and good soup....when its cold, the porridge hits the spot.....especially if you throw on some of the chili oil! Plus they're open late, which is hard to find for a chinese restaurant or any asian restaurant for that matter in the city of santa clara. I lived in SF for many years and had TONS of choices for chinese restaurants, and when I moved back down here, this became our favorite place for chinese food, reminds me a lot of the no frills good cheap food from SF. Maybe not as cheap, but still good stuff.
