I can't recommend this place any more than is possible. I'm a new college graduate, just moved here from Chicago. Needless to say, the real world sucks: no jobs or insurance! It was a great comfort to know that I could still get the care and prescriptions needed (FOR FREE)  to live a healthy, stork-free lifestyle!

I heard this was a free clinic, so I prepared for the worst walking in. But it turned out to be very clean, professional, and--more importantly--the people there are friendly! They don't make you feel cheap and worthless for dropping by, as can be the case in a lot of clinics. They actually care here. They provided me with everything I needed and much more.

I donated $10 and I wish I could have done more. Please support this clinic and check it out if you need the care.

ok, some, maybe most women may shy away from writing a review for their health clinic, even if the experience was/is worth sharing.

In the spirit of sharing free information, I choose to add my review to the ones that led me to this wonderful place.

Especially in these uncertain and controversial days of shaky health care options, a clinic of this caliber should be commended and heralded for its noble efforts.

The current wait for an annual is at least 4 months, so call today to get set up. Drop-in clinic hours begin at 8:30am on Tuesdays & Fridays (only). Today I called at 10am. Dropped in by 10:45 and was done by 12:30. Not bad for a free service.

Dozens of volunteer health workers help support the staff of nurses and midwives. The staff is efficient, respectful and very hip in their combined knowledge of traditional Western & holistic therapies.

My paperwork took less than 10 minutes to complete. I qualified for the Green Card - free health services for one year! I made a donation as well, but it is not necessary if you are really strapped for cash.

I encourage all women to either use this service or support it for their fellow womankind. The clinic supports healthy women and healthy relationships. A friendlier, kinder group of devoted public servants you will not find. If you do, kudos to you.

Amazing! Thank you guys for being here!
I was greeted by a friendly volunteer who took her time to explain everything and offer herself as a resource.
As a 30 year old woman, I thought I knew just about everything there is to know about sex health research, but they offered me some new info, and impressed me completely.
They are compassionate, loving women, and should be thanked in every way possible for their presence in our community.

Just FYI, if you need an annual, it takes several months to get an appointment. Just call, get placed on the list, and FORGET ABOUT IT ENTIRELY. They will call you when it is your turn and you will have a great experience. They are very in demand, due to their free services.
Please donate if you can. They deserve it.

This is an AWESOME place. They are very friendly and really seem to care about their patients. Compared to some Dr. visits I've had they're fairly timely. They are clean and fairly homey compared to a lot of other Dr offices. The best part is it's absolutely FREE.

Amazing place filled with amazing women offering amazing help.

Amazing, amazing, amazing.

This place is awesome. Do not hesitate in coming here! You won't regret it. You'll get the help you need and your worries relieved.

I made an appointment for my visit, and thought the wait wasn't any different than going to any other clinic/hospital. The clinic itself is very clean and well-managed. I was warmly greeted and prompted to fill a cup. Yeah. Well, one thing I can also say is what I got out of the clinic sure was better what they got out of me (pee and $20 donation, all I had on me)!
Anyway, they briefed me and answered all of my questions patiently and knowledgeably. They also gave me the magical green card, which gives those with low-income and/or no insurance free services, which I am forever thankful for, and a year's prescription of birth control. I got so much more than I was looking for, at NO cost when I could go nowhere else, with a friendly smile to boot. And a bag of condoms (27 safe sex sessions, GO!) What more could you ever ask for?

Like I said, amazing.

With a great deal of skepticism, I tagged along with a friend who desperately needed care and was without health insurance. I walked out incredibly impressed with the professionalism, compassion, and comfort that this clinic has brought to the community that I sometimes don't find with my own, insured health care.   One year later, the health issues that had consumed my friend are now gone - she feels healthier and more in control, and wouldn't hesitate to go back.  I wouldn't hesitate either.

The only thing I will warn folks about is that it is challenging to get an appointment - but keep trying.  They aren't trying to weasel their way out of appointments - they are just really busy.

In an environment in which clinics like this are being constantly threatened to shut down, it is now more important than ever to donate! I will continue to donate to WCC and encourage you to do the same.  If you can't donate, then please, please volunteer.  It's takes a community to sustain such a gem of a service.

I didn't have anywhere else to go for an HIV test and this place was amazing. They were very friendly, welcoming and gave a lot of good information. The test itself was done in 20 minutes, oral, no needles involved, and while you wait for the result a counsellor talks to you about stuff (like what it would feel like if it came back positive) and makes you feel more at ease. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Also, I expected a huge waiting room with a crowd of women, but there were only 2 women before me and the process went quickly even though I had to fill out a bunch of health history and registration forms. They welcome donations (I gave 40 dollars) but you never have the feeling that you are obligated to make a donation.

This clinic is wonderful! I came in today very nervous (because of previous traumatic gyno experiences) and everyone here put me at ease.  My counselor was wonderful and educative and my clinician was very sweet.

So I got some screenings done here, never had to wait more than 10 minutes, and the STI screening counselor was so kind and helpful that you knew she wanted to be there- that's what this place is about. It's all volunteers- they are here for YOU.I got a card that makes everything essentially free. Awesome.....

Love love love this place.

I heart the Women's Community Clinic. As a volunteer, I get the opportunity to interact with incredible women volunteers who have a passion for the well-being of women.

I have been a volunteer for one year and I simply could not imagine doing any other volunteer work. As other yelpers have commented, the office is very warm and welcoming, which makes it easy to see why the Women's Community Clinic continues to grow.

Check out the new website for comprehensive information about the clinic.

I used to go here years ago when I was living and going to college in SF. They offer free condoms, birth control and STD test. They are small but clean and very friendly. I highly recommend this clinic to any woman who does not have health insurance and needs women related health care. They are awesome.

I made an appointment 2 weeks ago for b.c. When I called, they had a free app't the same night, but I was busy. Cut to today:

The office is welcoming, warm and filled with the aura of "enough." The beautiful irony of community volunteer run clinics is although they run on a shoestring, they always emmanate abundance. The aura of lack is never present!

The Women's Community Clinic is no different in its attitude. In the waiting room, you'll find flyers at your fingertips. Bowlfulls of condoms dot the landscape. It's a nice place to hang.

I had a brief conversation about birth control types, and saw the staff clinician. Less one star because she was unaccountably stand-offish. I guess we're all people, hm? But I'd think a clinician would have a vested interest in showing respect to her patients. Given the accepting treatment at Lyon - Martin, I was surprised at the doc's general attitude.

The staffer who gave the interview offered a free goody bag of lubes and condoms, and we're talking a lunch sack, not a drive-in pop corn sized bag. An assortment of condoms was included - magnum, aloe enriched, and a female condom! She threw in a few tubelets of lube as well. Thanks!

I arrived late, filled out paperwork for 20 minutes, and was out within an hour of my arrival. No one else was waiting.

These ladies and I suspect gents provide safe sex supplies, exams, and referrals for free.

The moral of the story is for a good time, call the Women's Community Clinic!

I like this place better than Planned Parenthood... don't get me wrong, PP provides the same services, and I'm super glad it's there, but the last time I went, I was there for three hours (on my birthday, no less - UGH).  The workers also seem more jaded... like they've been to the 7th circle of STD hell and back more times than you've blown your nose.

So, when my the last part of my staph infection was just lingering on for weeks... I started to think back to the last guy I was with.  Sure, he was tall, dark, mysterious, and handsome (and we saved an Indian reservation together)... but just how skeezy was he?  How much does God hate me?  Is this rash ever going to go away?

The kind clinician assured me yes, yes it was... and yes, I am a hypochondriac freak.  Squeaky clean.  Phew.

Well, not only do they take a thorough look under the hood and change the oil, they also give you a... condom prescription?  Yeah, she seemed optimistic that I would get laid again soon, and exactly 36 times.  God bless, Women's Clinic.  I'll try to do ya proud.

Don't trust anyone else with your vagina.  I'd go here if I could but I have health insurance now.  It's also a great place to volunteer with like-minded, pro-health women and get an unlimited supply of free condoms.  Plus, I got to meet Gavin through a fundraiser for this place.  HOT!

This place is great!

I went to the drop in clinic on a friday and got number 9. when i came back they told me they were all booked for the day, but scheduled me for a couple days later. when i returned there was only one other person in the waiting area, which was nice. All the girls working there were really friendly, especially the counseling girl that was helping me before the doctor visit.

i did have to wait a really long time to see the doctor, but in this day and  age that's pretty common.  besides, for free and friendly health care [and birth control!] how could someone complain? they can't!

thanks wcc!!

ps. free condoms and lube galore.
pps. give them donations!

There are no words to describe what the Women's Community Clinic mean to me.  There are no words to describe what the Women's Community Clinic means to this city.

An excellent resource for women with no health insurance.  I am now fully insured and consider the treatment I received at this clinic equal, and at times better, than what I now receive at my health care provider.

Wonderful. Wonderful. Wonderful.  Courteous, kind, caring.  These people listen and if you ever just have a need to discuss anything... and I mean anything... they're open and available to do that too.  Wonderful staff.  Excellent services.  If I could I would give them thirty stars.

Oh!  And you can get a free big ol' honkin' bag o' condoms and lube. Woooohoooo!!!!

When I have visitors over the house I have many things to offer!

"Wine, soda, tea... condoms, lube? Ahh... sure.   Would you like cherry?  I'm sorry was that cherry soda or cherry lube?"

all while I was in nursing school, I was uninsured. This place is wonderful, loverly in fact. The practitioners are well-informed and willing to help you in any way possible.  It was my only form of health care for many years and I thank them for keeping me healthy, well-informed, and treated with the best respect. They are one of the best, women-centered and friendly places to go for a woman without much means or has been rejected by Blue Cross because she doesn't work full time.
Any woman who is uninsured is best served here. No joke.
somehow I can't be funny when I'm feeling thoughtful.

Alright, so, if you have an evening appointment, they may be running a little behind schedule. BUT WHO CARES??? They do a great job for little or no money. And they seem to be interested in your health and well-being, and I believe that most of them are! Some "women's clinic" workers can't even be bothered with niceties.

A word of warning: they are very pro-woman and pro-seeing-your-own-cervix. Just remember, you have the right to say, "No. Put the mirror down. I'm sure my cervix is beautiful and ignorance is bliss."

I had nightmares. I need to learn boundaries.

All the reviews are true:  The Women's Community Clinic is an excellent resource for women in this city.  The only real downside is that the wait to be seen by a clinician at your appointment time can be excrutiatingly long.  At the absolute minimum, expect an hour wait.  (I was out in two.)  But the care you receive is truly worth it.

The waiting area is akin to a typical hospital waiting room--plenty of reading material, be it pamphlets or standard magazines--but cozy, with an assuring feel to it, not at all cold and dreadful...Unlike Planned Parenthood and their more circular seating arrangement, with everyone looking as though they're waiting to walk the last mile.

Everyone I've come into contact with, from the front desk to the clinical staff, have been extremely friendly and welcoming.  For women, it makes going to what can be an uncomfortable, but necessary visit, so much easier.

Highly consider volunteering and/or donating money to keep this wonderful organization going.

I moved to San Francisco about a year after my health insurance ended. One of my greatest worries was receiving health-care when necessary; I knew I couldn't afford out-of-pocket at any doctor's office. Of course, shortly after moving here, I became ill twice (both times I was uncertain what was wrong). They got me in quickly, never made me feel uncomfortable, answered my questions and solved my problems! I am truly grateful that I can turn to them when necessary! Five stars! Great, friendly, knowledge staff.

The WCC does the impossible in health care.  It provides free women's reproductive health care including annual appointments, birth control, pregnancy & STI testing, and acupuncture (yup!).

All but one or two of the clinicians are volunteers so there are limited appointments available.  Call on the first or fifteenth of the month (when they open up spots) to get an appointment.  Also, unless you have a good, good reason not to use your private insurance, they ask you to find another clinic so that women without insurance can use the services.

The best part about the clinic is that unlike many free or low cost clinics, the clinicians here spend a ton of time with patients and are all extremely nice.  Highly recommended!

i've never been treated more kindly in all of my life in any medical facility than when i had my first ever appt here earlier today.  and... i am saying this as an unemployed, non-insurance having loser with a yelp addiction.  this is basically a spa for all of your female health related needs.  i got tested for HIV, as well as for every STI known to man, had my liver enzymes analyzed, got a cervical exam, received specific and detailed recommendations for a new therapist, made a friend, drank some filtered water, set up an appointment for acupuncture, got FREE birth control and a lunch bag full of condoms and lube - all of this took 3 hours.  i know, its insanely wonderful and surreal that a place as cool as this exists.  EDIT:  the WCC is free, but accepts donations.  i gave them all of the cash that i had in my wallet ($12) but i feel like they deserve a hell of a lot more.

i must note that i have very tiny veins, which is not so good if you need to import/export shit to/from them efficiently, but the skill and mastery of the doctor shown thru as i felt no pain as the needle pierced my flesh.  again, i swear, i felt not even the tiniest prick on my skin.  she made sure i was comfortable (i fucking hate needles) and really took the time to tie me off hard and waited for my veins to bulge so i didn't have to get prodded again and again and scream in pain like some other doc-tards have done to me before.  it was the best blood drawing i've ever had.

this is the best part... i found out that i am immaculate, no wait, pristine is more like it.  i am a pristine chapel of cleanliness and light.*  in fact, i am sooooooo clean that i will NOT be dirtied NOR will i contract or allow myself to become contaminated by the dreaded yelpies! woohoo!!!

*exceptions made for syphilis and of course, scurvy

An 100% free women's health clinic for uninsured women. To top it off, the WCC is actually a pleasant place to be. They have a very small paid staff & are almost entirely run by volunteers, who are ALL women. I volunteered here for a while & can tell you that confidentiality was paramount. It is hard to gt pap smear/annual appts but a bit easier to get in for birth control refills & STD checks.  Truly a fantastic organization.

I will NEVER go to Planned Parenthood again!  Not that there is anything fundamentally wrong with PP but this place is SOOOOO much better for all your women's health care needs!
Today I had my IUD removed.  When I had it put in 5 years ago at Kaiser on Geary it was one of the most traumatic experiences I've ever had.  I literally threw up from the pain.  Why?  Because Kaiser has a no-frills approach to women's health and didn't apply any kind of topical analgesic or anesthetic before slicing open my cervix and shoving a t-shaped copper object into my uterus.
: /
Cut to today when I have no insurance and I'm terrified of getting this IUD removed.  Everyone at WCC reassured me and went over the process step by step.  They didn't stop there though!  They threw in a PAP smear and STD testing because why should I come back more than once when they could make it a once stop visit?!  AWESOME!
Oh and when they removed the IUD?  PAINLESS!
Thank you, thank you, thank you WCC.
You truly provided the best care I've ever had when up in the stirrups.

I called the clinic on a wednesday morning, after realizing tuesday night that i needed to see a doctor. i'd never been there before, but read great reviews on yelp. i left a message (i called a bit after 11am, when the website said appointments would be taken, but no one answered), saying that i needed an appointment or would like to speak to a doctor. someone called me back that same day, and she was very nice, but not particularly helpful. she asked me to describe my medical concern and said that she would ask around to see what they could do for me. she got back on the phone a minute later and said that no one could talk to me about my problem over the phone because i'd never been seen by their doctors, and that there were no available appointments, but that i could come in the following tuesday when they have walk in hours (6 days later) OR i could wait until the following wednesday (7 days later) when a batch of appointments would become available. i was disappointed and frustrated: i would expect this from a regular doctor's office, but i'd called the clinic because i thought they might be more understanding. i was also frustrated because 1. if i thought this was serious enough to call to make an appointment, did she really think i could be ok sitting around and waiting another week before i would need to see someone? 2. the receptionist had spoken with a doctor about the issue (in order to tell me they couldn't help), and neither she nor the doctor thought it was serious enough for me to get an appointment, but why couldn't they tell ME that it wasn't serious, or have the doctor give me some possible indication of what it might be. again, the woman i spoke to was really polite, but it's already disempowering to be sick and to have no insurance, and so it's even more frustrating to feel like the place that's supposed to help doesn't feel like your concern is valid.

I find it amazing- and kind of sad- that a free clinic provides better care than the private doctors I used to go to when I had insurance. But, definitely a good thing for those of us who are without insurance! The staff, including the volunteers, are wonderful and friendly and really make the clinic feel like a safe, comfortable space. A true blessing to the community!

First of all, I used to live in the country with the best health care system in the world (well, almost, maybe the Scandinavian countries are even better), which costs a lot of money (almost 50% of your paycheck goes to taxes) but offers great health care for next to nothing.  And then I moved to The States, and was shocked at the state of American health care.  I'm in the fortunate situation that I have health insurance, but apparently lots of people don't have that, and frankly I think that's a disgrace for this country.  I love many things about the USA, but the health care system isn't one of them.

I started working as a volunteer at the Women's Community Clinic in March, and I'm loving it.  It took me a motivation letter, an interview and a 2-day training, but I got accepted as a front desk assistant (receptionist).  It really feels as if I'm doing something useful with my time, and it feels great to be appreciated for my work.  Staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and I learned a lot working with these amazing women.

This place is fantastic, and -unfortunately- it's much needed so if you visit -or even if you don't- try to make a donation so they can keep providing free health care.

The WCC is a wonderful resource. When I first moved here, I had no insurance and it gave me the health care services I needed. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and it's a safe, clean environment. I've never been uncomfortable in there.

YES, YES, YES! This is a wonderful place. I have no health Insurance so when I need to, I go here. It's Very free and welcoming. Any questions I have are answered and tons of information is provided. No matter what your problem may be they will keep it confidential! Without this free service I'm not sure what I'd do. I've always had to wait long but It's only because they take their time with every patient to provide them with the care they need.

I didn't expect a gynecological exam to be a treat, but the people here made it the best experience possible. Both the receptionist and the clinician were open, unintrusive, friendly. They made sure I didn't have any unanswered questions, and had a open ear for all my concerns. The only thing I'd warn visitors about is the waiting time. For me, it was 45 minutes, and I wish I'd brought a book along.
