This is probably the place that I have eaten at the most in the year I have lived in this neighborhood.  I haven't eaten anything bad there, brunch or dinner, though sometimes the quality is not there.  For the most part it is awesome.  I die for the fries.  The duck soup is off the hook.

The only bad thing about this place is the bimbo bartender who has the manners of a Neanderthal who has been there since its inception.  I really could go on and on about not liking her rudeness, unprofessionalism and horrible service, but I will say you should try it anyway because everyone else there is nice and the food is great and reasonably priced.

If I could give it 3.5 stars, I would.

The $13 lobster dinner has to be the best lobster deal in the city.  However, it's not good like coming out on a silver platter good.  The $17 lobster night at the Essex in LES is generally a better experience; the service, quality, location.

I tried the Wombat's Maine style lobster, but my dining partner's Aussie style was much tastier.  Mine was a little soggy.  The mango flan dessert was extremely good!  Anyways, if you're in the neighborhood, I'd recommend it, can't beat the price.  Don't know if its worth the trek otherwise.

Okay, so I concede my calling the waiter a "schlubby gut guy" in my last review lacked a certain, ah, meter, and was probably a little bit out of line. Still, I thought I'd post here the exchange I had with him over Yelp private messaging this morning, which I think you'll agree lacked professionalism, such as it would be expected from a place like that, and surely doesn't do any good for my opinion of this place's service/staff. It seems to me that a guy ought to be able to put his honest opinion of a place on a website made for reviews without fear of harassment, online or otherwise.

Anyway, here's what he said. As for the claim that his account was "hacked," well, I don't believe that personally, but the entire exchange is posted here (swears redacted because I don't know if you're allowed to use them on Yelp), so you can judge for yourself.

-----
yersovan g: schlubby??? i know ive let myself go, but really.  but i bet it was really busy.  so  it can be tough.  u understand right??  im just  guy tryin to get buy. no surprise?!?, but i dont want to be a bartender/waiter my whole life.  i want to be just like you.  an a--hole who stays up at night writing s---ty reviews.  perhaps its not the service.

ITS YOU.

Jeff B: nah, like i said, i'm pretty sure it was the incompetent service and the crappy food.

In fairness to everyone, though, I'll go ahead and post your message on the restaurant's page -- I'm sure everyone will want to know the aplomb with which you accept criticism.

yersovan g: ah, i was hacked, i have no idea what you're talking about? i work in a museum :(  i'll reset my password, oh and i did not send you a message

Jeff B: oh yeah? what museum?

yersovan g: none of your beezwax, what restaurant were you writing about?

Jeff B: The one you work at dumbf---.

yersovan g: way to get a riled up i seriously did not write you that message, but you can go on hating me d-----bag, sounds like you have a swell life to get all f---ing mad on yelp of all places, what a loser,

I admit the only reason I came to this joint was due to my intense affinity for wombats the creature. Corgis and munchkin kitties are severely cute, what with their nubby legs and waddle-butts but wombats are like, times 5000 if you like that sort of thing. This is the last time I pick a restaurant that brands itself by an animal not served on the menu, I SWEAR.

The meal wasn't terrible, just really lacking. The sticky pig balls were good in theory (texture, shape, etc) but flavorless. All the elements of the meal, in fact, had a bit of a seasoning problem. The oyster mignonette was bland. I had the venison with fried mac and cheese cube things: the former was over salty and the latter - while again AWESOME in theory (especially the crispy fried corner bits) - tasted rather like battered and fried candle wax. My companion had the Snags and Mash which was better. The sausages were good, but it's hard to mess up encased meats.

Also, maybe it was an off night or something, but our waitress (the one waitress) abandoned us and another guy (kitchen staff?) took over serving us. As we were leaving we noticed our waitress crying by the bar. Made me feel guilty, like I smelled bad or farted real loud or something.

Once a buddy of mine and I were going to Barricou.  Well, they were crowded as hell and we didn't have time for that sort of thing!  No sir!  So we went on down to Wombat.  Thereupon we feasted upon a steak that was so tasty we got magical powers.  Since then two ladyfriends took me out (for being so handsome and awesome) to lobster night and I had myself a fine time.  I agree with Paul, the South Pacific style is the way to go.

Did your steak give you magical powers?  Probably not!

Had a hankering for midnight desserts and Wombat delivered the goods. We ordered chocolate "soup" with croutons (they appeared to be hardened brownie crusts) as well as gingerbread cake with caramel ice cream and candied walnuts. Pretty yummy with a glass of Prosecco.

There's a painting of a wombat behind the bar (see pics), but it's not just any wombat. It's George Wombat. THE George Wombat. Apparently you can add him as a friend on Facebook (http://tinyurl.com/lofwgg) and I suggest you do so, cause he's a supercutie™.

Decent playlist of Fischerspooner, Crystal Castles, Daft Punk and the (once again) the requisite LCD Soundsystem.

so I was pretty into this place on my first trip here, as indicated by my first review. Since then i've been back for Lobster at least once more, and twice more for oysters. Experiences were not as warm and fuzzy as my first trip.

As mentioned by some other commenters, there have been some serious biffs in terms of service, in fact 2 of my 3 subsequent trips have seen orders get screwed up significantly. And here's my thing--if someone is writing down an order and somewhere between the kitchen and the waitstaff the communication breaks down, I have a pretty high level of sympathy. Mistakes happen. But when a Waiter chooses to not write an order all together, and rely instead on his legendary powers of recollection, my offering of sympathy is greatly reduced. So twice we've had the food delivered and had to pull out the "um, i also ordered this, and she also ordered this, and no one at the table ordered this". Once to the extent that people were done before some people's food came out, which we were initially told would be in '2 minutes'

And after getting a little more into oysters, I'm coming to realize that even for a dollar, these are not great oysters. They come from Maryland and are much softer than those you would find from around here. Instead of going here for oyster night, go to Metropolitan fish market which is pretty close, grab a dozen bluepoints for 9 bucks, and make a little shallot vinaigrette (shallots, rice vinegar, Dijon mustard).

Despite everything I've written here on the service, I will maintain that the Wombat Potatoes are something special, and the tap selection always seems to have some inspired choices. Definitely check it out once if you've never been, but as indicated by yelp's two stars: Meh, I've experienced better.

$13 LOBSTER TUESDAY!!!

FOOD:
is Tastey:
South Pacific Style Lobster: SO Delicious.
Prince Edward something Mussels: VERY Good.
Fries - HIGHLY Addictive.

DRINKS:
are Strong

Decor/Ambience:
Small and Cozy

Service:
Excellent. there is only one waitress, but she does an amazing job all by herself.

One time we got the Chocolate Soup, and the waitress asked us afterward how we like it; we told her it was good, but strangely salty, and she didn't charge us for it.
Last time we went, a couple complained about the cramped seating, and they got free drinks on the house.
You can, i guess, use this review and take advantage of this accommodating establishment, but that would make you a scum-bag.

My ONLY complaint is that they are Cash-ONLY

*Next to Lily Thai, which is a whack Thai Restaurant, so whack i'm not going to bother writing a separate review... the namesake Porn-Star is AWESOME.

Mango mignonette on a half dozen fresh oysters for $11 is clearly a five star thing.

There's a real variety to Wombat's menu - from a delicious fried fish po'boy topped with a lip smacking cole slaw to sweet potato gnocchi, venison and a variety of burgers with all the traditional Aussie (and beyond) toppings. It's one of those restaurants where everyone will order a different thing, feel like they were the lucky one whose favorite item just happened to be on the menu and then share plates 'round the table. But don't share too much - the servings are fine, but not especially generous. The fake bacon blt was the only slight disappointment, and especially skimpy with only one slice of f'acon.

I could comfortably bring 6 people here, but it's teeny. Teeny but delightful.

Forget that this is an Autralian themed bar and you'll thoroughly enjoy the $1 Monday Oysters ($13 Tues Lobster?!?) and pork  balls.  Good vibe, pleasant service, very casual, a  bit out of place on Grand (in a good way!).

Ok, ok really wasn't crazy about the "gnocchi"- extra 1/2 star if you ditch it.

So I decide to take the long way home... on a rainy night, under an umbrella. Strolling down Grand street, I get Lily Thai's crispy duck in my head, on approach I pass a HUGE waft of pot smoke... a guy is out front of Wombat toking up, I take a deeep breath, walk past and step into the Lily Thai, they're closing, it's 11:10pm.
The pot guy urges me... I mean really urges me... to try Wombat ... "trust me man! F*@kin' great F*#kin' food, man!"  So I do.
The place is tiny, but really well thought out. great bar, smart dining area, efficient, utilitarian kitchen.
I take a seat in their rear dining area, and am promptly served some menus and water. There's a drink list with a surprising selection of wines and cocktails. The menu is ambitious. Sandwiches, steaks, venison... great sides...
I ordered the mushroom risotto, which I always love. This one was good... though a bit "taller" than I like, the flavor was there and the serving size was perfect. For my main, I had a steak sandwich, which was perfectly cooked, with nicely caramelized onions, though i found the baguette too soft...
To drink, i had a "hunters vale", which turned out to be a great introduction to Wombats cocktail list, I ordered it almost as a dare... I'm a huge fan of apple juice, but find it to soft for alcohol, this mix was just right, sweet, tart, and refreshing, nice sized serving too...
I ended with a cappuccino, which was the best I've had in America so far... (I may go back just for a capp. sometime...)
All in all, I loved this place. It was inspiring to see a full bar, full dining area, and such an interesting menu come out of a space that could'nt be more than 500 sq ft in total. That the kitchen is open till' 2am, is just icing!    All I can say is that I want a Wombat of my own!

Food:  Burgers looked good, and the duck hash I had at brunch was nice.  My other two friends couldn't even eat their food... greasy and the greens looked like they had been sitting under a heating lamp for 10 mins.

Drink:  I had a gin cocktail off of their specialty menu... was quite drinkable... I had 3!

Decor:  We sat at the bar... wasn't much to see.

Service:  The bartender was completely rude at first.  We sat there for almost 15 minutes before she came over and asked us if we wanted anything.  We were the only people at the bar.  How does that happen?!?!?!  She served us our drinks and didn't do much else.

Overall:  Not great... wouldn't go back unless someone I knew really wanted to go.  Even then... I'd suggest Huckleberry instead.

I agree with everyone who has said the place is cramped. They do what they can with an awkward space but definitely groups of more than 3 will feel weird about taking up the entire restaurant. I was kind of relieved when a rowdy group of 4 decided to eat at the bar instead.

The service was more than friendly! Extremely affable and helpful. My companion and I were specifically up for a unhealthy meal and the Aussie burgers and parsley fries were just what we were in the mood for. An impressive wine list for such a casual place with obviously an emphasis on wines from Down Under. We enjoyed ourselves so much we lingered over dessert (ginger cake with carmel and vanilla gelato) and Quebecois apple jack just to flirt with our server a little longer.

I had myself some Wombat last night, and boy was it yummy! Boyfriend tried the turkey burger. He loved it. I stole some of his fries and have to say that they are great. I had the BLAT (bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato) with tofu bacon instead of regular. I wish more places did that for vegetarians like myself. My BLAT was delicious. Loved everything about it, from the bread to the fresh salad it came with. Will have to get it again soon! It was $8 I believe.

I also tried one of their mixed drinks, the Queenslander. Very limey, sweet, fresh, and pink! Some of their drinks sound really interesting and I can't wait to try more.

Overall, great neighborhood spot with Aussie flavor and friendly service.

No complaints, but no driving force to convince you to go either. It is kinda pricey for cash only and the menu is not crazy interesting. Been for both dinner & brunch. I would not be upset if I was going, but Wombat wouldn't be in my top 5 suggestions either.

Rounding down from 3.5 stars. Generally food is hearty and tastes pretty good. Good prices, I think all the sandwiches were under $9, and come with salads or fries. My friend got the chicken panini which looked pretty simple but good. I had the fried fish sandwich which was good too, crispy battered tilapia covered with slaw. Both were $8 or $8.50 (each). Mesclun salad had a nice creamy house dressing. Split the "pig balls" appetizer. 4 pretty large rice balls with pork bits and rolled in bread crumbs then deep fried on top of a generous pile of mesclun for $6. Very filling, and pretty tasty, but obviously on the heavy side. Food overall is good, but not particularly oustanding. They do have some interesting nightly specials, like mussels night, lobster night, $25 prix fixe night (four courses I think), etc.

Happy hour special is very good, 2 for 1 draft beer or well drinks til 7pm. Had cran / vodka, with generous pours for $5. Nice selection of beers on tap, a seasonal pumpkin ale, Jever something, for about $6. Service was uneven. The bartender seemed like she was in a bad mood, and we all knew it because she was talking about it pretty loudly while ignoring everyone at the bar for the first 15 minutes of her shift. Once she got over that and had a shot, service was ok. The waittress on the other hand was hilarious and very nice. There was another bartender when we first arrived who was also very nice.

On the positive side, the vibe is very chill. People in general were pretty laid back, staff was mostly friendly. Good neighborhood place, but doesn't really stand out as a destination joint.

By the way, it's cash only. There's an ATM in the bar though.

I've been dancing around with this one -
"i like it. i don't like it. i love it... ehhhhhhhfuck!"
and i'm only talking burgers.

the last time i ate here i took it to go and they totally fucked my order up.
"WELL DONE?! NO CHEESE?! AUUUUUGH!"
i quite literally punched my burger when i got home and felt like a steroidal sociopath...

the restaurant itself isn't that good.
loud idiotrance type yaddaya murdermeearsarebleeding type stuff.
beers on tap are kind of a let down too.
nice bartender though (the guy only)...

listen:
when they get the burger right, it's solid.
and they do have late kitchen hours (2AM!)
but something about this place is incompetent.

(i'll still order for proximity. sigh.)

Stumbled across Wombat on a Tuesday night. My boyfriend and I wanted to have dinner at Le Barricou, but DUH, Le Barricou is closed on Tuesday nights. Disappointed, and feeling pretty dumb, we walked 2 blocks and came across Wombat. While looking at the menu they had posted outside, I saw it was Lobster Night. Sweet, let's go!

When I saw the menu, I was tempted to skip the lobster and get something else. But, screw it, it's lobster night so I'll just stick with that. The sign says $13 lobster ... and that's exactly what you get. Split, cooked  in your choice of 3 styles and served simply. Want a side? That'll be $2 - $3. Lobster was on the small side, but tasty. We split the wombat potatoes which were a deep fried, crispy mess. Good bar food I guess, but next time I'd opt for something healthier. If you're going for Lobster night, order an appetizer too because you'll leave hungry.

I love the atmosphere at Wombat, but I'm not sure why. It's not very big, and there's nothing really special about it. But, something about it makes me want to get drunk. And when I see their cocktail menu, I try to do just that. I had a watermelon mojito, the bf had some drink with guava. Both very good, and pretty strong. We split one more cocktail, and I was tipsy when we left.

I must've been more tipsy than I thought bc when I left my bf said 'That's the first time I ever had Australian food." I looked at him and was like "Why? That place was Australian?!" I'm slow like that.

Wombat is great.  I go on Tuesdays because that is lobster night.  You can get a lobster dinner for 13 bucks.  The lobster passes the test and I also got the delicious Wombat potatoes and a Foster's beer since it is an Australian place.  We topped everything off with a teramisu to die for.  Man...everything was delectable.

Everybody living in the area needs to have Wombat on their speed dial. If you're chillin' at Redd's or one of the other bars in Williamsburg with no kitchen, delivery doesn't get any better. Their sandwiches are all around $8.50 and quite filling. The non-burgers are all served on a perfectly spongy french bread which soak up all of the goodness yet stay in tact like the Bounty Paper Towels on them commercials.

The Crispy Fish Poboy is delicate and not too battered, the BBQ'd Steak Sandwich has real thick bits of steak and is perfectly marinated.

Their Turkey Burgers comes with cranberry sauce! Why doesn't everybody do this? I'll never again order a turkey burger unless it comes with cranberry sauce and when I know I'm going to a place that's with turkey burgers on the menu, I carry a jar of cranberry sauce on me.

Their burgers have 4 types of cheese to choose from and you can also get mushrooms, sauteed onions, and bacon added for $2. If you want the whole Australian experience, try the Aussie Burger (which is seasoned lamb and beef). Definitely try the Wombat Potatoes or Potato Croquettes with your order.

When we sat down at Wombat for burgers and beer after a few hours across the street at Huckleberry I thought the night would take a downturn. Not in a bad way, but perhaps we'd reached the apex and were gently heading toward to the cushiony ether of a long night's sleep. How wrong I was.

My friends and I occupied a few tables, strung them together and set about our business. That's when the Biker Lesbian From Booze Town decided to join us unannounced. See, BLFBT took it upon herself to join our party, not out of malice. No, that's not BLFBT's style. She wanted to entertain us and of course, physically threaten the only girl in our group. When she asked for a cigarette I of course offered one up. Shit, when something this entertaining falls almost literally in your lap, you don't send it away empty handed. Observe:

BLFBT: (to nearest female in the group) you got a ... you're shut up.
Cute Girl in Group: (laughing) really? why's that?
BLFBT: (to me, while holding a smoke) you got a light. (to nearest girl) you got a problem (attempts to light cigarette--doesn't notice that I continually blow out the flame everytime she gets it going. This comedy ensues for several attempts) You, you're shut up.
One of the Guys At Table: you can't smoke in here
BLFBT: You .. you're. who. (attempts to light smoke--I blow it out again)
Waitress: Okay (blank) its time to go. She's always in here. The other day she threw up on me.

Now, don't let that discourage you because Wombat makes one of the best burgers in Brooklyn. I mean I find it hard to even describe the joy of its flavors. It was a smoky (which is a particular style, mind you) mix of spices that was vaguely cajun. Think charred but not burned. The fries (those unsung heroes of dining out) were cooked to perfection as well.

Now, you're probably thinking to yourself: "But Captain, if you liked the burger and the Biker Lesbian so much why only three stars." The place is cramped. Like uncomfortably cramped so if you're with a group of five or more it shouldn't be your first choice. Also, they screwed up Nearest Girl's order out of a total of four. Otherwise go check that place out. And say hi to BLFBT for me. There's no telling what response you'll get.

lobster that is $12...but really $15, because you have to buy fries on the side.
The lobster was the size of a large mouse. But it was $12. I mean $15.

The best music I've ever heard while eating. It was like they raided my cd's (yes I still use them).

I have to take off a few points, though, because the dining area was filled with noxious oven gas that was robbing the oxygen from my brain and I may have suffered permanant brain damage. But I got lobster for FIFTEEN DOLLARS.

i've been to wombat twice, and so far it's been pretty decent. the first night my friend and i went in for the dollar oysters - they were only ok, and the citrus-y sauce thing for them was a little overwhelming in its citrus-y-ness. but my dark and stormy *with homemade ginger beer* was a-mah-zing. i could drink gallons of it. my friend's fizzy-tea-gin thing was only ok, i liked my drink better.

the next time, went with two friends for lobster night, and we each got a different kind and shared. the plain one is skippable (but who's complaining about $13 lobster?), the other two were delicious. wombat fries were wonderful, and the vegetables with vermicelli (we decided we need more green things in our meal) were fine - not stellar, but not terribly lousy either, just food.

the atmosphere's ok too (we went pretty early both times), and service was fine.

This is the first place I ate at the first night I was ever in New York (which was last night!)  My friends and I were originally going to go to the Thai food place next door, but this place seemed more intriguing - I had never had Austrailian-based cuisine before.

We all had a seat at the bar and ordered some drinks.  They were having a two-for-one drink special that night, so I asked the bartender to make a recommendation and he recommended an Austrailan dark beer that was quite good.  We then decided that we would eat our dinner at the bar, due to the fact that we would lose our 2-for-one drink special priviledges if we were to dine in the dining area in the back.  Anyhow...

Let me start summing this up in a more concise fashion: one friend and I order the Sticky Pig Balls because...well...the name was hilarious...WTF?!  As the menu states they are made of "seasoned ground pork, sushi rice & pecorino rolled in panko bread crumbs" and they are served on a bed of lettuce with some sort of soy vinigrette drizzled on top.  Delicious.  Seriously.  And it went great with the beer.  We then decided to split the Aussie Burger - ground lamb, beef & Aussie herbs topped with lettuce, tomato & pickled beets.  We added smoked Aussie chedder and grilled onions.  It came served with fries and let me tell you, it was great!  If all of the other sandwiches and entrees are this good, this place will last for a good long while.

The bartender was totally cool and extremely helpful and the overall atmosphere was pleasant.  They have a small, but good selection of imported beers on tap and a nice selection of wines.  They also serve  coctails.  Recommended.

went for lobster night.  I dont eat fishes but bf does.  he saw them come out and he is apparently only into claws and tails and didnt think one lob would fill him up.  I dont know anything about lobster sizings, so i'll just pass on his sentiment of "not the smallest, but I've seen bigger." Ha.

So, I got the chicken, which is called "tamarind chook" and comes on a veggie waffle.  Veggie waffle means waffle with some scallions, frozen corn, and diced peppers thrown into waffle mix.  the waffle came out kinda soggy, but the chicken had a great sauce on it and made for fantastic leftovers the next day.  Bf got the steak sandwich, and he was very happy with it.  Black bean dip was awesome.

Waitress had a kinda fake aussie accent.  She was all "G'DAY LUVs!!!!!!" and saying wacky things until I asked her about the veggie waffle: her eyes rolled up to the ceiling, and, deep in thought, her accent slipped into something clearly american.  It was cute overall, and she was a very busy lady but did a great job with a great attitude nonetheless.

oh, tap beers have nice selection, and the wine (I got australian white chardonnay) was gooood.

only 3 stars because while service and food was good overall, my bf and i are about 6' each, and it was tough sitting at those tables.  It was nice because we could be all snuggly, but it was uncomfortable in the beginning.  Also, we were sitting in the back corner near the kitchen and I swear i could smell stale old beer in our corner, as if it had been spilled and never cleaned.  however, the place is nicely decorated and the food really is pretty good.  Dont understand the griping about prices- it seems pretty average for a restaurant around here.  Def want to try brunch.

Me and my amigos try this restaurant on a whim and greatly surprised!  Positively coming back. You enter to a nice bar area and greeted by friendly staff. The dining area is small, but it is moving. We started with apps, mussels, duck soup and carrot soup all very good, fresh and nicely prepared. The favorite was duck soup, that's a meal all by itself. Drinks are nice and strong, definitely a plus.
For the main dinner we ordered a Aussie Burger, Turkey Burger (idk) and the Short Ribs.. all delicious and perfectly cooked. The yummy continues with desserts.. apparently my friend has deemed himself a consisure of "flan" and we also order the banana cream pie with Oreo crust.. I'm not much for sweets but OMG, this was a palate awakening. Lack of not knowing what good flan is..this beautiful scrumptious flan was flantastic and so was the banana cream pie.
Three thumbs up from all of us.. Definitely fans of Womat...Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oye Oye Oye!

I went to this place last night. They are certainly green but show a lot of promise. While everything ordered prix fixe was good, several items came on the same bed of shredded root vegetables. This is my first point of contention. After the first two times it was getting old.
The aborigine soup was pretty good. Some sort of meat stock with the vegetables mentioned above. The salmon was quite tasty (again on a bed of the same vegetables) and the chicken wellington was pretty damn good.

Then came the desert. Which was Pavlova.  I had no idea what pavlova was. Visions of salivating dogs kept popping into my head and I decided I needed to down another glass of wine. Come to find out pavlova is some sort of freeze dried Nasa ice cream with Smuckers on top. Or at least that is what it tasted like to me.

For more information regarding the confounding  Austrailian dessert  visit http://en.wikipedia.or...

My wife had the chocolate cake which was clearly the safer choice.

Good overall. Just needs some tweaks.

Had lunch and dinner here. Great neighborhood spot.

Lunch:
Crispy Fish Po-Boy - YUM. They really know how to fry here. Light and delicate, the fish flaked at each bite. Not greasy at all. Not sure what was in the mayo, but it worked!

Aussie Burger - refreshing to have lamb instead of beef. good cheddar and again, they fried those thick cut fries right!

Dinner:

honestly, we had such a good time here drinking, i only remember my appetizers

Mussels - big portion, cleaned well, tender, but not my favorite broth

Sticky Pig Balls - filling, good for drinking base, but wouldn't necessarily order again, kinda bland

DRINKS - order any cocktail, soooo delicious, fresh juices, etc
our waitress was so nice, kept bringing (and doing) shots with us....gooooood times

The last time I reviewed Wombat I was accused of being too enthusiastic by another reviewer, he even insinuated that I worked there indicating the cause for my excited descriptions of the food, decor, and service.
I've never worked there, I just was so excited when it opened, because it was the first restaurant in the hood that wasn't Mexican or Thai that was affordable.

So this time I'm going to tone it down a bit.
What I like most about Wombat is it's chill out atmosphere, it's relaxed and friendly, attracting a combo of different folks, neighbors.
I like the food a lot though I can't eat it every day, much of it is very rich.
My favorite menu items are: The Benedict, amazing bloody Marys, the asparagus soup, gnocchi
and the fish and chips, the sticky ginger desert is really tasty.
I'm not a big meat fiend but there's lots of meat stuff to order.

If you are just hanging out at the bar this place gets pretty crazy at night with singing bartenders and girls dancing on the bar, there is this parents away for the weekend vibe that gets you giddy and walking on the wild side.

The fact that its a theme restaurant gives it just an edge of camp which is rather enjoyable. Menu items are in fact authentic Aussie fare including the cocktails which are amazing
It kind of reminds me of my imagined Australia the only thing missing is the rabbit proof fence.

Australian based cuisine and wines!
Great Food and Friendly staff. I've loved every dining experience here so far. Nice bar to sit at. For the FREELANCERS, this place serves a BRUNCH MENU every day of the week, and tea service [ how cute] from 4-7pm. Happy Hour and great cocktails in general. I loved the DUCK HASH with poached eggs, Fish and Chips, Venison Medallions, Tucker [beets] Salad and more..
I didn't love the Veg Miso Consomme..but oh well...so awesome in all other ways.

Not sure why it's taken me this long to get around to reviewing Wombat, as I go there regularly.  Perhaps I take it for granted.  Sorry, Wombat.  I love you.

It's one of my favorite brunch places in the area.  Only been once or twice for dinner, as that tends to be in a completely different price bracket.  The food is Australian/American.  The place is teeny-tiny.  Excellent hangar steak (and hangar steak sandwich).  Great burgers.  Great fries. The duck hash has me going back for brunch as much as possible.  Friendly owner and staff, to boot.  So rare.  Oh, but I do not recommend the fish and chips.

One star must be deducted for some strange pricing practices - a burger is I think $8 but if you want cheese, that'll be an additional $2, and it's a one square inch speck of cheese.  I mean I know $10 burgers are nothing new for NYC but it needs to actually have cheese on it to justify the surcharge.  Call me crazy.
