Review Highlights
I am very sad that there aren't many places like this in the 'burbs!
Lots of cute handmade stuff up in here! Jewelry, Chicago-themed items, clothing. Unfortunately I cannot afford most of the stuff for myself, but it's a great place for gifts.
SUPPORT ARTISTS! BUY LOCAL!
This place is small but particularly awesome because it's only carries items made by local Chicago designers, printers, crafters, artists and jewelery makers.
It's a great place to buy unique gifts, nic nacs, soaps, tshirts, hats, accessories, purses, tshirts, cloths and more.
Yay for Chicago!
Talk about another unique and cool shop. So I'll be honest I only buy their accessories.
They do have some cool pieces but most of the clothes runs pretty big. So I don't even try it on, but I have found some extremely unique and cool wristbands and necklaces for myself and my sisters.
Check it out you might found yourself some unique pieces as well!
First off, let me start by saying that I am a Chicago textile designer and am completely thrilled with Wolfbait.
I think the most amazing thing about all these negative reviews is the people complaining about a women owned, independent business being bad for the area.
My polish grandmother has been living in Logan Square off the blvd since the 1930's. She still lives in the same house. When she heard that she could go see her granddaughters art work at a store within walking distance she was thrilled. She didn't say "oh, how terrible for the area". We walked there together, and she finally saw that all those years of art school taught me something.
Gentrification isn't as easy as people want to make it. And reading that people are so upset that some smart women, started a business in this area blows my mind. It also blows my grandmothers mind that people are complaining about progress in an area where she once almost took 1,000 for her house because it was so dangerous.
Thank you Wolfbait for being such a fantastic contribution to my neighborhood!
Eh. If I made $15K more/year I might be able to afford most things in this place. I came in to check out the jewelry, specifically the necklaces, and found them to be $42 for plastic beads and fake gold. If I knew where to find the plastic beads they used, I'd just make the damn thing myself for about $7. And I know how much time it takes to make something like that, and it's not $35 worth of labor.
I like the idea of stores like this, but in general, I find them to be extremely overpriced (I'm talking about a lot of things at Renegade, too). But I guess we can't all be rich.
Next up for me: learning how to sew!
TOTALLY CUTE! When I stopped by one time they had kids playing out front drawing chalk outlines. Budding young artists! The owners are so friendly, and I love the unique stuff that you can find in here. I absolutely understand that it costs more to have local designer pieces, but unfortunately my budget can't really afford the prices of the one-of-a-kind items. However I think people who are looking for some really cool clothes and gifts should check this Logan Square place out. It's worth a visit!
What a cute shop for custom / unique women's clothing! If they had more for men than just t-shirts, I'd be giving it five stars, no doubt!
Super nice staff, really cool vibe, awesome designs for that special woman in your life -- or for you special women!
I love going into Wolfbait to browse the great DIY goodies, but am turned away by the price tags. What's a college student to do?
I bought a pin at Wolfbait that lived on my cardigan all fall/winter/spring and if I had a dollar for every compliment I got on it, I could've bought 3 of them. If you're willing to dig and come back from time to time, you'll find the right thing at the right price. Have to love supporting the local crafty people in Chicago as well.
Funky and fun stuff! I went in to browse thinking that the clothes weren't really my style...but I ended up finding a few pieces that I really liked! I didn't have my wallet but I will go back to purchase some things the next time I'm walking around the 'hood.
I loved these cute little shoes they had with laced up ribbons. So cute but a bit out of my price range. They look like they are not very comfortable, but they are damn cute to look at!
I bought a sundress here that was stylish enough to wear to a wedding, but is comfortable enough for a picnic. For a boutique their prices are low and the clothes are not from a sweatshop. The shop is just fun to look around.
Liked the unique and reasonably priced jewelry. Fell in love with several handbags/designers--will be going back to stock up later this summer!
The clothes, however, seemed almost an afterthought--and not as fashion-forward as I would like--or maybe too fashion-forward! A lot of the pieces were designed to be "inside out." it is difficult to justify spending a couple hundred dollars on a piece of clothing that might only be good to wear to a show the one time a year your band is in town.
The artwork on the walls is also for sale--and changes every 1 1/2 months or so.
Super cute selection of clothes for people of all ages + excellent knickknacks and jewelry. AND they do a beautiful free gift wrapping job upon request! Owners are funny, cool girls. Some of the stuff is a bit pricey for my range (which makes sense since it's all locally designed), but if you look around, it's easy to find something cute & reasonable. Highly recommended!
I LOVE this store. first of all, everything in there is chicago-made. the goods range from clothes to handbags to shoes to jewelry, greeting cards, & all kinds of fun stuff. there's a nice price range as well, so you can grab a couple little things or splurge on something fancy-dancy. the women who run the store are super nice, and the place is friendly and fun. definitely check it out.
What a great shop...run by some of the most suprising, sweet, and creative women around. Like a cooperative, but more integrated. If you get lucky on your visit, the owners may be celebrating a birthday, a holiday, whatever, and offer you a taste of what they're having. Last time I went in it was sangria...
Cute little store in the heart of Logan Square. For the most part the clothes and jewelry are for women but it's a nice place to stop by and get a gift for the person you care about. They really do have a wide variety of stuff hear from clothing, jewelery, purses and on and on. Stop by the next time your in area, and make sure to say hi, the people are very friendly their and deserve a good friendly hello.
Oh yes! As a person working with the same materials I love going to this shop checking out and buying all sorts of cute stuff!
2 things:
a. great bags, purses, etc... the chicago handbag company goods are sold there. texture, hip, cool designs. the clothing is really cool and if you are looking for something special and unique there's a good chance you'll find it here
b. my company held a party there recently - they provided wine and we brought some food in. we designed our own shopping bags and everyone left with something personalized that they could use. nice idea!
Their clothes may not be everyone's cup of tea, but the girls are always friendly and helpful to those who come in and say hello. Intelligentsia has created a delicious brand of coffee just for them, and they sell bags of that too (cheaper than anyhere else I've seen Intelligentsia, I might add). My regular purchases include the coffee, art, and handbags, all uniquely Chicago and all warmly received by those I've gifted. They also offer classes such as silkscreening/printing on occasion; I took one with a friend of mine and felt like a kid again, only drunker, as there was plenty of wine to go around.
Super Cute stuff. I can never find pants to fit my boo-tay, and I found 'em here, so I bought 2 pair! Lots of funky & unique jewelry & other stuff. They do classes occasionally & they sell out fast!
The concept is very cool, too - all local designers. This place rivals any of the persnickety boutiques on Damen in Bucktown or Armitage in Lincoln Park. Better, down-to-earth service, more interesting stuff in more-realistic sizes (though they could have a few more shirts for the busty gal). If you are going to spend some dough on fashion for well-made, interesting stuff that you won't find anywhere else, you should spend it here.
Logan Square doesn't have much in the way of boutiques so I was surprised to see this awesome store in my neighborhood. It's like Renegade Craft Fair year-round. They have a large selection of jewelry and purses along with a few racks of clothes. Everything in the store is made by a Chicago-area designer. An owner was there during my first visit and told me that they produce their own line of women's clothes. The clothes aren't quite my style but they're cool to look at. It's definitely worth a visit to take a look at what fellow Chicagoans are designing.
Been in here twice, heard Jets to Brazil playing both times. I don't think I'm cool enough to converse with the employees, but props for opening your own store...I guess. I still get a giggle out of the name Wolfbait, because my old roommate and I used it as a euphemism for poo. Who's laughing now?
I have been in this store a couple times and always found really really cute stuff that I could really really not afford. I'm sorry but this is why I shop at places like H&M and Target. I wish I could afford to populate my wardrobe with locally-produced clothing purchased at a privately-owned store, but alas, it is not so.
Here's a cute little shop to find Made In Chicago goods you didn't even know you needed! We were greeted on a Saturday morning with complimentary Wolfbait blend coffee and had a great time looking around the store. They have a wide range of items for varying tastes and budgets. I found the quirky little shrinky dink jewelry very entertaining, as well as uniquely illustrated greeting cards with blank speech bubbles to personalize each one. You can pick up some neat gifts and feel proud to support local handmade arts & crafts.
I only wish we had more boutiques like wolf bait in logan square. I went to buy a gift for a friend's birthday and ended up getting the gift AND myself a few things. It's the type of shop where you find something you love, you buy it and it's the item that others always comment on. Why? Because it's not H&M or Target.
I happened to come in on 20% off sale due to Inauguration Day! Yes some of the items are not cheap, but let's be real guys...it's handmade (good designers at that) so it's going to be more expensive. I'm not rich either, but the prices here are not what they could be. That being said, I'm a definite fan and will be coming back.
I wish there were more little shops in Logan Square like this one. It's totally great to walk into this space with so much to look at. Whenever I'm waiting for brunch at Lula I come in to stroll around and check everything out. I've bought a nice tanktop over the summer which I received tons of compliments on, a nice skirt and some jewelry as gifts. I'm not always into the clothes, I'm a bit more boring than what they offer, but I always have a fun time looking. I want to try one of these classes I hear about.
i love this store. everything they sell is handmade by local artists and designers. you will buy clothes that are unique and chic. what's not to love?
i give it 4 stars because i've been there twice and couldn't really afford to buy any of their clothes, but there is always something there that i want to buy. the accessories they sell are affordable but for a college student like me who is relatively poor, i can't afford to buy such luxurious items. need to fill my belly first before anything else.
not only do they sell one of a kind clothing pieces, they also offer a sewing class. you can learn how to make your own clothes! they can also make tailor-made pants for you. for a shorty like me, that is something that i can really appreciate.
I have passed by this shop many times, and I have heard plenty of positive things about it. But I can't help but comment on the political implications of opening an overpriced hipster boutique in Logan Square. This place feeds into the seemingly unstoppable gentrification of the neighborhood. Next thing we know, there will be an Urban Outfitters and Starbucks on the square, and the coffin will be sealed. All the while, the owners probably credit themselves for being independent and creative, or whatever the fuck., and not considerate of the influence they bear on the future of a community. Defend Logan Square!
i wanted to like it, but couldn't. i've been in wolfbait a few times and haven't been greeted once. it's overpriced and has run-of-the-mill handmade goods.
