I don't remember how many times I have drove through this place when I blast through Markleeville.

Some of my friend had mentioned about they have pretty good food. So on a cool late fall night, to be exact, Halloween night, when my friend B and I because hungry after driving through Monitor Pass, we decided to hop in and see what's up.

There are a few patrons in the bar area which looks like part of old victorian house. Great thing is that B and I were the only two not dressed. The locals were chilled and friendly, and offer us candies. =)

The friendly bar owner came over and informed us dinner is not served since the cook is sick, but they do have soup and salad. Well, consider this was the only business that is open in the 20 mile radius, soup and salad it was. It turned out to be the best soup and salad we had, clam chowder it was. We walked out two warm happy camper.

The bar owner also walked us out as beer might be lurking at such late hour.

I definitely will stop by next time when traveling through the Sierra, and maybe the cook won't be sick.

After eating delicious grilled meats and veggies all weekend, we were in the mood for something fresh and on the lighter side.  I might still smell like smoke, bacon and hamburgers.

Tintin had the caesar salad, light on the dressing, and I had the bruschetta.  I also had a bunch of the loaded fries, so I wasn't successful at actually eating a light meal.  My bruschetta would've been great, except that it had too much balsamic.

The rest of the group seemed satisfied with the ribs, sandwiches and drinks they ordered.  There aren't a lot of options in Markleeville so if you're in the area, it's a decent place to stop.

Had breakfast and dinner snack here.  Good service and friendly people.  Chicken strips were way above average.  Only downside was that it took forever to get the bill, but we were talking to people, so it probably didn't look like we were ready.

Stopped in for lunch.  Good service and food.  Great burger.  We've had lunch or dinner here over the past few years when we are in the area and it's always been good.

We were in need of a sweet snack on our drive back home and with little to no choices, thankfully Wolf Creek was open for business.

Saloon type feel with obvious old timers hanging out at the bar drinking their beer. It's the type of place where you walk through the doors and everyone screams out your name. Kind of like the show Cheers, "Nooorm."

A slice of warm apple pie a la mode for my Mom and a slice of warm peach pie a la mode for me. mm mm mm.

The live music which consisted of one guy singing and playing the guitar. Then I was surprised when what appeared to be a young lady who was sitting nearby decided to walk up to the microphone and start singing Norah Jones, "Don't know why I didn't come." This girl had such a beautiful bluesy voice I was blown away. Right on!!

Just a great ending to a wonderful day.

Wolf Creek is it if you want a good meal in Markleville, the most beautiful town in California. It is right down the road from Grover Hot Springs so you can camp at the Grove and eat at the Wolf. Both are fun and memorable.

The food is heathy, substantial, standard food, nothing gourmet. But it tastes really good after a hard day of hiking or just sitting in the hot springs.

It can get really cold here in the winter and really hot in the summer so be prepared for both. It is also right on a very active earthquake fault so if you feel a jolt, don't worry it happens all the time.

We ordered ribs and the chicken soup special. It took for-e-ver to arrive and to our dismay the soup was Campbell's or some other canned concoction, replete with processed, preservative-enhanced chicken cubes! The ribs were tasty though.

THis is the "fancy" restaurant here in Markleeville. Well, it 's also the majoe bar here in town, hence very popular in the summer with the Harley bunch. Go from bar to bar drinking and riding. The restaurant section is actually very nice. We came in here on one of our non-athletic afternoon activities....like drive a scenic road, stop and eat tasty food, and drive more and repeat process. Lunch was to be had this time, and the burgers and french dip were what was ordered. Good food, not kick ass good but hits the spot. Lunch seemed kind of dead as there were only a few other customers there. So, a-OK place. I think next time it would be better across the street at the deli where you can eat outside and relax. Its fun coming to Markleeville for a change in the car wearing civilized clothes, instead of stopping on a long bicycle ride, and being all sweaty and tired dressed in spandex.

There is surprisingly good food at the Wolf Creek Restaurant & Bar, much better than I would normally expect from a small town bar/diner.  I had a lovely sandwich with chicken and avocado and sprouts on whole grain bread, and a very nice spinach salad.  Nice selection of beers on tap, too.  It's a great spot to stop and get a bite to eat before or after going to the Grover Hot Springs, or for stopping at while road tripping through that part of California.  And the take out boxes are not styrofoam - nice.

Stopped here after crazy off roading hot springs trip on the Carson river. I liked the atmosphere of this spot, it has a lot of history. The food was ok, nothing fancy. Their portions for their sides are kind of small for the price. Also the menu is pretty limited, not to many choices. I was kinda bummed when afterwards when I walked across the street to the deli and saw their menu... Def gonna try that spot next.

    Warm food! 2.5 stars.

We ate both dinner and breakfast here on a recent trip. For dinner, I had the veggie lasagna. Let me say, it was really like cheese-and-tomato stew. A huge dish of sauce and cheese and melted cheese and sauce and oozy cheese filling and... noodles, where are the noodles? Incredibly rich, way too liquidy, not all that great. Salad was good. Bread, quite tasty.

Breakfast was mediocre. Had OJ, which tasted more like Tang than any juice I've ever had (just buy a container of Tropicana, okay?). I had a veggie omelet, and it was pretty meager. Veggies looked like leftovers from the previous evening's dinner service, and they forgot the cheese. I was starving, and scarfed down the cold toast.

Service was VERY friendly, and the building is nifty, historic, and extremely conveniently-located, so big thumbs up for that.

Hit and miss, I've had dinner there several nights, and the burgers were quite good, and reasonable in price! One morning I went by there to get breakfast, and for some reason they simply didn't show up! Signage outside listed there open hours, and I waited 20 minutes past that, so apparently something happened? I was disappointed that someone didn't post a note on the door regarding not opening, cause it's oftentimes the only game in town!

One of two restaurants in town. This one was open while the other wasn't. The food was good. I had the spinach salad. My only complaint was the raspberry vinaigrette was more like a raspberry sauce. Price and service was good and the restaurant is cute.

There aren't many dining options in Markleeville.  In fact, Wolf Creek's pretty much it; otherwise, you'll have to travel to Genoa, or clear out to South Tahoe if you want variety and selection.  Thankfully, Wolf Creek gives you enough reason to stay in town if you're lodging or camping nearby.  They serve hearty, good basic American goodies in a comfortable dining room or patio and the staff are friendly.  During warm days, flies can be an issue.

We had a yummy lunch today at Wolf Creek after driving over the Pass from Arnold. The burger with ortega chile and cheese was good, as was the warm turkey sandwich also with ortega and cheese. They have a nice menu of basics. Nothing fancy or spectacular, just solid exactly when you need it. We ate inside at the old tables and were the only people in there. They have the option to carry out anything in a biodegradable box - great touch for hikers and those on the go. Not much action in Markleeville, but Wolf Creek hit the spot!

I was stuck in Markleeville on a Sunday-by stuck, I mean, my hubby Bob wanted to go fishing and Markleeville was the closest place that wasn't barren, windy to the point of insanity and had bathrooms that weren't holes in the ground. I didn't bring a lunch or snack with the intention of dining out for lunch so I could "yelp" about it. My choices were the general store(found out later they had a deli-darn!) a sandwich shop, or a dinner house/bar, I chose the latter. I have to be fair because the only sandwich I could eat on the menu that didn't have beef or pork was a turkey with cheese and Ortega Chile on a hamburger bun. Well, I don't eat most cheeses so, I left it off. So, now were talkin' a chile and some turkey. (the menu said turkey breast so, I'm thinkin' sliced turkey breast like the kind you have on T-Day, no, not so much. It was more like the Costco version that is injected with a salty liquid for seasoning-highly salty to the point of burning one's mouth. Then there were the frys, more like limp little slivers of potatoes posing as frys; it wouldn't have been so bad had I not paid $10 bucks. I guess for a small town with only 2 places to eat it wasn't half bad, but, it wasn't good either. There was not enough business or passers through to make a go of any type of eating joint were it not for the multitude of bikers that were in and out of town the 3 1/2 hours I was there. I must say though; the bar was hoppin'!
