I have a multitude of things that I could say about Wink, but no need to over-do what everyone else has already said! So I will simply say that Wink is awesome, and has been my go to choice for a few years here in Chicago. Ok, here are a few reasons...
(1) Laid back, non clinical feel = awesome.
(2) Willingness to use email communication to get things done!
(3) Great people work there!
(4) I got a GREAT deal on new glasses with anti-glare coating (which is awesome).
(5) I am in need of some contacts, so I email to order new ones- it will be a few weeks until they are in... NO PROBLEM. Wink tells me to stop in and pick up a few FREE trial pairs to cover me until the new ones come in.
Seriously people, no other medical offices treat you like this. they are good people with a great business. 5 stars for sure! -

I forgot to mention that as soon as I posted this update Brian emailed me to offer a $50 "let me redeem myself" credit on my account. He apologized so that was neat. I still had a bad taste in my mouth so I don't think I'll be back.

I moved from Indiana in July and needed an eye doctor. This office came recommended and I'm glad it did. Absolutely great service. Friendly staff. Open Saturdays. They do what they can to help you. Highly recommend.

All I know is I've been a patient of Dr. Buete's for a zillion years, from back when she was at Contax and Spex (I don't know if it's spelled with two 'x's, but I know there's one in there somewhere)
Anyway, Contaxx and Spexxx , was okay, but a lil' too hip. (Almost felt like they were gonna make me pay cover to get in.) But she is / was always super cool... And genuinely interested in what's goin' on with me. She even came to see me perform a couple years back! So, now I go to Wink. I even bring my dog sometimes. It's real dog friendly, 'cause she's got HER dog there!
One time... I don't even think I was officially her patient at Wink yet... But I had an "eye emergency", called HER, and she talked me through it - gave me her cell phone even. So izzallgood. -

I am going through Wink withdrawals. I started a new job in July 2010, and in early November when I called to make my yearly eye exam Brian had to inform me that Wink does not accept my new plan. Doh!
Rather than try to persuade me to visit out-of-network, he was understanding and helpful. He emailed me a scanned copy of my records to take to my new doctor, and he also offered to recommend a few doctors to me if I could send him a list of optometrists in-network from my insurance company.
There are not many businesses out there who will be compassionate about losing business! Next year I plan to set aside enough pre-tax dollars in my FSA account to pay out-of-network so I can go back to see Dr. Beute and Brian. They're worth it!2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

I just moved to Chicago and was lucky enough to have Wink Optical right around the corner from me. I commute from Schaumburg and had a late night appointment which I was late for due to traffic. Brian squeezed me in right at the end of the night!
The service was great. The Dr. Beute let me test my non-corrected eye sight even though it was late and not part of my exam. Brian and Dr. Beute were patient with me as I picked out a frame and helped me make my final selection.
I was very lucky to stumble upon Wink Optical and was not surprised to see such high ratings on Yelp. I can't wait to go pick up my glasses in a few weeks! -

I follow Brian and Dr. Buete from Contacts and Specs. Brian has styled me with glasses for the past 6 years and has never steered me wrong. Both of them know me by name when I walk in, ask about my partner and even our dog. I love this place and can't say enough good things about them.

Cool store with excellent service, varied but very hip selection, and the best service in town. They have a wide range of glasses to choose from, and Brian is chilled out, knowledgeable, and very helpful. Dr. Beute is awesome, knows her stuff, and make for a very enjoyable experience.
Beyond the store being everything an eyeglass store needs to be and more, if you're lucky Mishcka will be there and you can pet her voluminous shag fur. -

I have not been to the eye doctor for a few years. A friend recommended Wink so I gave it a try.
The space is really nice, and I felt like my doctor (Dr. Beute) really went in depth with the exam.
As it turned out I did not need new glasses, and my current prescription was fine. She did not try to upsell me anything or con me into getting new glasses, which I thought was really nice.
I would recommend Wink to others and will return in year or two to see if my eyes are still working. -

I went to them originally because they take VSP and my coworker suggested them. I am so glad I went! Previously, I had gone to Lenscrafters and let me tell you... this place is 100x better!
Brian is really friendly and smart. He will look at how the glasses fit your facial features in so much detail that you walk out of the store feeling superbly confident about your purchase. He is also not a sketchy salesman but a genuinely good-hearted guy. He will listen to your budget, your insurance situation, etc. Then he will give you the best offer he can on the best pair he can find for you.
Dr. Beute is equally nice and really wants to give you the best advice possible. She put me on Restasis, which has given my dry eyes some life lately. -

As a longtime "4-eyed" gal - I take my eye care very seriously. I first met Dr. Beute and Brian when they were at Contacts & Specs...which is down the street from my house. When learned that they both left to start this new practice I was thrilled to be one of their first customers @ Wink.
Dr. Beute is top notch...nothing gets past her. As a person with MS, it's important that I trust my doctor to monitor the health of my optic nerve and she has never let me down. She continues to fine-tune my prescription and never, ever loses patience with me as I continually seek out the perfect contact lens.
Brian is absolutely fantastic. He has great style - and works with you to find the perfect frame for your personality/style/price range.
I recommend Wink to anyone who needs new glasses/ contacts/ prescription sunglasses. Actually - even if you don't wear anything -this is the place to go to get your yearly eye exam. -

I'd haven't had a good experience with optometrists in the past so when I moved to Chicago and needed a check up, I was a little hesitant. I didn't really know anyone here so they couldn't recommend a place so I turned to Yelp and Yelp doesn't lie. I'm really happy with finding Wink Optical and don't think I could have chosen a better place. Staff is super friendly and honest and informative. They've answered all my questions. And sometimes I think I'm a pain, especially this time around since I needed my glasses adjusted a couple times but they were more than happy. And even offered me better nose pads for my glasses that will help them stay on better. It's a little out of my way to get to but I wouldn't go anywhere else!

Best eye dr that I have been to. Extremely helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. Worked with me to get the most out of my insurance by calling the insurance company multiple times and made sure I didn't have to worry about a thing.

I wish I could give Wink like fifty thousand stars. But five will have to do. Glasses guy--who I am now fairly certain is also called Brian--is my bff. He totally remembered us from like nine months ago, so he must feel the same. ;)
I've been wearing glasses pretty much every day since I was six (except an awkward phase in middle school when I wore contacts half the time), so glasses are a *big* deal for me. Brian was patient with me (more patient than Mister... ;) while I wandered around, covering his table with glasses, taking them off, and then scattering around the same ones. He backed off when I was looking on my own, and made some helpful suggestions when I was confused. He also offered me a pair of contacts to try on frames, which was super-helpful. And he didn't grudge me for rejecting the offer at first and then taking him up on it later, either. ;) He is very easygoing and friendly, and you can tell he knows what he's doing and enjoys his work. For me, that makes a real difference. Also, for me it kind of helps that there's only one of him, honestly. I've been to lots of places where they have more than one person trying to sell you glasses, and they keep saying to each other "don't those look nice on her? I think those look nice" "oh, yeah, those are great!" and it's really confusing--are they trying to scam you, or do they really like the frames? Brian gives opinions, but I never felt like I was trying on wedding dresses. XD
After abouuuut 45 minutes, I managed to decide on some I liked. (Actually I'd decided on like five I liked, but it was basically down to some really expensive ones and some not-so-expensive ones ;). He asked if we still had the same insurance, which we didn't, and we told him we have this not-so-hot discount program with an insurance Wink doesn't take. Buuuut he said he could match the discount program's rates anyhow! :) On top of that, he gave us another discount, which made them exactly the same price as a pair I wasn't so keen on that I nearly got bullied into buying somewhere else, using the insurance discount thing.
One other random thing I like about Wink is that they have plenty of full-length mirrors (and table mirrors, too). I really liked being able to see what I looked like in different frames from a few paces back--it actually makes a real difference, and it's the way you'll look in photos, too (and to people who generally aren't "all up in your grill," really).

I stopped in today to check out their frames. The sales guy was super helpful and friendly. He picked out a lot of great frames for me to try and a couple are still in contention. While I was trying on their beautiful frames I was able to meet the doc as well. She was really cheery and nice. In the end I thought I'd like to keep looking around. They were really nice about it and wrote down the names of the frames I liked the best. My first impression of Wink Optical is that they've got cool frames, great customer service and no pressure. I'll be back!

My partner and I went to Wink beacuse they are a TLC referred provider and I am required to visit one once a year to maintain my guarantee with TLC. There website also says they accept EyeMed Vision. After our appointments were made, they let us know that they do accept EyeMed, just not our plans. Okay - we can pay out of pocket and get reimbursed. They also offered to discount the difference of what would be covered. Didnt quite make it all up, but close enough.
The visit was great, the doctor was great.
The problem came in when it was time to get glasses for my partner. Rather than the promised 7 - 10 days, it took 3 weeks for the glasses to come in. Upon walking outside, we discovered the transition tinting was not on the lenses. New lenses were ordered, and two weeks later, I brought his glasses in to get the lenses swapped for him. They were cut wrong for the frame.
They did offer to order lenses again, but enough time has been spent trying to get these things. If as much time and energy was spent on customer service as creating their atmosphere, it could be a winner. -

I'm terrible about eye exams and contacts - can't put drops in my eyes, take 20 minutes to put contacts in, flinch constantly - and Dr. Beute is both patient and thorough, and managed to do a complete eye exam and help me find contacts despite these problems. The last time I tried contacts, back at Contacts & Spex, I probably tried 10 different brands of contacts over a month and a half, and she was OK with it, so I followed her to Wink.

I saw some fabulous frames on a fellow air passenger several weeks ago and when I arrived back to Chicago found them at Wink. I called Brian who offered to order them for me (note that I was not a previous customer) on "spec" (no pun intended) and because of the recent blizzard, the frames were delayed in their arrival. Brian gave me frequent updates and I finally got to Wink yesterday to try them on. They were terrific frames and due to the topnotch customer service, the no-hassle, patient vibe and the great price, Wink now has a new customer. I have visited some of the other trendier eyeglass emporiums in town and Wink's customer service and selection makes them rise to the top.

I love this place. Last year, I went to Lenscrafters and completely felt as though I was a number. I tried Wink out this year and couldn't have asked for better service. Dr. Beute was amazing. She wasn't rushing throughout the exam and was extremely friendly.
The decor of Wink is immaculate and they had a good selection of glasses. The optician, Brian, is great. He pulled a bunch of glasses down and tried them on me to see which fit and looked the best. I truly felt they had my best interest in mind. I will definitely go back for my eye exam next year. -

I didn't have an eye doctor here in Chicago, and Yelp's search put Wink Optical as the first choice. Yelp was right. Dr. Beute and the guys that work there are exactly how optometrists should be. I had an eye exam/contact fitting, and the exam was definitely very comprehensive.
Like another reviewer, my prescription hadn't changed much. They didn't pressure me into changing my lenses (I was buying contacts), and were very helpful with trying to figure out the right contacts for my eyes. Even with the manufacturer's rebate, they took the extra time to make sure I had everything I needed for the rebate (made an extra copy of my invoice!) so even sending in for the rebate was easier.
Even if I move out of Lincoln Park and Wink is no longer a 5 minute walk away, I'll still keep coming back. Told my brother about it, and he's sold on Wink as well. Highly recommended.
