My wife and I had lunch here and really enjoyed it.
It's a small restaurant located at the Auburn Airport. Their menu has many options, including a lot of rich, tasty comfort food.
We ordered a tuna melt which was excellent and good sized and the mushroom, bacon, avocado burger, which was also good. We ordered fries, which were abundant, hot, fresh, and tasty.
The atmosphere was cute, small-townish, with old airplane pictures on the wall, facing the airport area so that you can watch the airplanes right outside.
During warm weather, this is a great place to go get some good, reasonably priced food and have fun doing it.
We will return and recommend this place to friends. -

What's cool about this place is knowing where it is. Not everyone is going to find this place unless they know where to look, next to the Auburn "International Airport" it is a great breakfast/lunch restaurant. A lot of people know it for breakfast but they really turn out some nice lunches with creative sandwiches on the back cover of their menu. Crowded at lunch so get there at 11:55 am.

This is a great little place to have breakfast. Food is good... Sit outside when it's warm. Every once in awhile you can watch a small plain take off or land.

The service is mediocre and the breakfast is the only meal worth eating here. The problem is, they stop serving breakfast at 11:30 AM, which for a breakfast place... is rather irritating.
They also have bad circulation in the main dining area which means you'll smell like grease and fried food if you eat inside.
Also, beware... this is a CASH only place, which I find rather shady. They operate their own ATM which has a large surcharge.
Anyway, if you like breakfast (not brunch) and you eat early with cash it's alright. If you're there at 11:31 plan on having a poor lunch. -

What a wonderful place. As a recreational pilot, Fly-In's are what we live for. We talk , walk, and think flying. Airports are our haunts and when there is a great haunt like Auburn we congregate and do what we love..... hang-out and talk flying with other pilots.
Wings is the airport restaurant at the Auburn Airport. A cute airport that nestled at the base of the the Sierra Nevada Mountains. A great place for lunch and watching the planes takeoff and land. I loved the fact that there is an outdoor patio right on the ramp where the planes park. There were a couple of old pilots sitting sitting on the patio when my Father and I arrived for lunch. As we walked up they held up 3 paper place mats with numbers written on them. 8.5 9.0 9.5 My father busted up laughing. That was the judge's score for my landing into the facility! I guess I was pretty good because these guys were rating everyone that flew in ..... I saw some 5's and 6's ........ and a 4! Yikes.... Would hate to be that person.
Lunch was great. Dad and I enjoyed it immensely. The staff was awesome and on the ball. We will return soon for a night flight and try the dinner! -

Came here for a lunch break while on my way to Tahoe. We waited a while for a table and then realized they messed up and started seating other groups that arrived after us. They eventually fixed the mix-up, but service continued to be a little slow even after we were seated. Although the service lagged a bit, the staff was very friendly and personable.
I had half a pastrami melt and a bowl of chili. The sandwich was pretty good, but there was nothing too exciting about my chili. Everyone else seemed to be enjoying their lunches. The patio area is a cool and unique place to dine, considering you can watch planes land and take off.
Overall, this place is good choice for a decent meal in a unique location. Although the service was a little slow that time, I wouldn't mind stopping in again to give them another try if I'm ever in the area. -

I seem to always to write about our date night restaurants and I thought I would write about our weekend travels and our avocation, flying for breakfast or dinner.
One of our favorites is Wings Grill at the Auburn Airport (AUN). They have a stellar reputation in the flying community and it was hard earned and well deserved.
The food, no matter the order is always delicious and presented well and in great quantities. I particularly enjoy the breakfast fare there. I love the omelets and the Queen likes the French Toast plates. Lunch is very good also, the Club Sandwiches are awesome as are the other entrees.
The serving staff is fast, courteous, attractive and pleasant with outstanding attitudes.
The outside patio gives you an expansive view of the parking ramp and the runway, so you can watch the planes arriving and departing.
Lest you think that this place is just for pilots, it is not, anyone can drive over and have a great meal.
It does close early though, about 2:00 pm I believe. It is busy so you may have to wait if you don't get there early! -

Great food and great service. It can be busy, so get there early.
If the tiedowns are all full, you can park just north of the full island along the curb (there are usually some chocks laying on the ground). -

Cute spot. Food looked good and most of the staff were friendly. However, like another reviewer, we experienced a screw - up. People in our group (at the table next to us) were getting their food when we hadn't even gotten anyone to take our order. All of this would have been overlooked, except that one of the wait staff was condescending when we mentioned we had not had our orders taken. She actually told us we should be patient and that they would take our order "next" (duh. We were the ONLY table left waiting to order!).
Until today, I honestly couldn't tell you the last time I walked out of a restaurant after having been seated.
Needless to say, we won't be back. -

Wings is an established Auburn local eating place for pilots and non-pilots. The food is tasty. The amounts are plenty. The menu has a good selection of breakfast and lunch items. The prices are comparable to other Auburn cafes. The owner and her staff are friendly and caring about customer welfare. Sometimes Wings can be crowded and patience is helpful. There is a pleasant outdoor area for eating during good weather. Wings does not take reservations so during busy times you may have to put your name on a list. Wings does NOT accept credit cards. It never has. There is an ATM machine at Wings if you need cash. Wings has never advertised. It has earned it's reputation as a real good airport cafe by word of mouth recommendation. Wings is usually closed on holidays but not always. Call to be certain they are open. I have been a Wings customer since it opened many years ago.

Wings is one of my favorite spots in Auburn for both breakfast AND lunch. I meet up with girlfriends there, have lunch with my husband, and bring out-of-town guests. The food is always good. The prices and portions are reasonable, and its fun to watch the planes take off and land.
During the warm months I like to sit in the outside patio area.
One of the things that really stands out to me is that you can get a really good 1/2 sandwich and salad. LOTS to choose from, either cold sandwiches or some yummy grilled creations. And the Connie salad is delicious. Some places make it hard for lighter eaters, but Wings is really accomodating and I appreciate it.
Wings tends to be busy, but I've never had a complaint about the service, and I've been there quite a few times. -

I'm very torn about this place.
On the one hand, the loaction is really neat. You get to sit and eat while all the little planes land and take off. It's pretty cool, especially if you're in the patio.
On the other hand, the owner (or manager maybe?) is really rude. The teenagers that work there tend to ignore you. It takes forever to get your food, too. :(
The food is alright. Not great, but not bad either. It's hard to screw up breakfast, though..
The lunch menu is unimpressive but good for someone who isn't expecting anything fancy.
So.. four stars the cool location, minus two for the rude staff, and plus one for the decent food. Pretty much.. -

This is an absolutely great breakfast and lunch restaurant. The hamburgers, salads and fish and chips are great. Most of the time there is a wait, do come early.

(Breakfast) I have enjoyed the Omar omelet three times now and have to say that I really enjoyed it. I'm not a big fan of dry unseasoned omelets that most restaurants produce. The Omar is as close to a perfect omelet you can get in Auburn and they don't have nearly the wait of Katrina's!

I can't imagine that there are only 4 yelpers who have reviewed Wings Grill. Okay, so maybe the reviews here are to be found on Airnav for us pilots, but this place is worth a drive from Sacramento when the weather is too foggy to fly in. Connee, the owner, is really really nice. I usually order the "Erica's Grilled Cheese" with Avocado. It comes with a generous serving of spiced fries and two black olives. Add in an Ice Tea and a 25 % tip and you're only at 10 Bucks. The folks here are really nice--One time I was stranded due to a big fire that closed the field. Connee made me a Roast Beef sandwich and an Ice Tea for dinner, and the restaurant technically closes at Two-- that was really nice of her. The sandwich was great. Definitely my favorite stop for a flight in, but completely worth the detour for SF folks driving up to Tahoe. Speaking of which, I believe WIngs was once mentioned in a NY Times article about the $100 hamburger flight. Then again, maybe this place should be kept secret-- the lines get long and people are served in the order they are seated, so even if they have tables, they may not come for 10-15 minutes on weekends until other people have had the chance to order--.
