I like this place. It's a very friendly neighborhood place and everyone is made to feel welcome by the owner Roger and his wife. Think of it as a "wine Cheers, where everybody knows your name" I've never been here where I haven't met someone and shared wine, stories, and just enjoyed the time at the Wine Lab.

The Wine Lab is half retail and half wine bar. If you have ever been to a bar, or restaurants, then you know how stupid the pricing can be. At The Wine Lab, you can haul a bottle from retail over to the bar and enjoy for a reasonable price. The best part that is you can enjoy a better wine at the bar than you might have ordered if anywhere else. These guys have some small plates and a varied selection of cheese plates to accompany the wine. It's a small intimate bar area and if they are holding a special event, it can get quite crowed.

Wine Lab has a Facebook page, so I keep posted about the various events they hold. Anyway, when I'm in town, this is my happy place.

Wine Lab of Newport Beach is cozy and comfy place to hang with friends while experiencing wines. Taste a bit, then buy or hang out to just have a sampling of choices. I recommend ordering a brick of cheese (and some crackers and nuts) as well. We sampled Manchego, a sheep's milk from Spain. Very delicious, and the brick was more than enough for the three of us.

I did find a fave white wine this way, but I still turn my nose up at red wine, so I won't (and shouldn't) comment on the wines.

We went on a sunny and breezy Saturday afternoon, and it wasn't crowded. The young lady working behind the counter was so knowledgeable and just genuinely friendly. No snobbery winery action here. It was as if this was some pot smoking-everyone-is-mellow- living room! Easy to hang out and just relax.

I'd recommend Wine Lab for wine tasting, hanging out with friends or even just to get a great wine for a dinner party gift. *HINT* I really liked the Ampelos Viognier Santa Baraba 2008.

Are you looking for a casual place to hang out and enjoy a nice glass of wine with people who share your passion?

Look no further than Wine Lab Newport.  The proprietors of this establishment Roger & ChrisAnn share your passion.  Down to earth and far from the snobs down the way, these folks love wine and enjoy sharing it with the visitors to "The Lab".

Constantly coming up with new ways to bring the wine community together such as winemaker meetings and wine classes you don't know what might be happening on any given day.  Best to get on their e-mail list to keep up with the latest happenings and find out which wines and wine flights will be available each week.

Did I mention that this place is a bargain?  Compared to other wine bars in Orange County, Wine Lab regularly has wine flights priced between $10 to $20.  You won't find that at the competitors.  They also provide a nice selection of cheeses to pair nicely with the wine you pick.

Enjoy!

Really small spot. I think they could take some of the inventory to make room for the guest. Nice staff most of the time. they sometimes do not open a bottle of wine they have on the menu if they are having a tasting the following day and they do not have enough wine. I think they would find a way to get an extra bottle for the next day and serve the client that is here now. Nice location for a wine bar just needs to have some more space.

I wouldn't go so far as to say 5 stars like other reviewers for Wine Lab but definitely 3.5 stars.

My boyfriend reserved 2 spots for 8pm for the 4 Vines tasting event.  When we arrived the place was packed and it was very hard to get a firm answer out of someone exactly what we were supposed to do for checking in and getting a glass to start tasting.  This went on for over 10 minutes.  Once we did get our glasses, we were able to get the tastings quite easily and even though it was standing room only, it was a decent experience.  The service improved drastically when we were seated at the bar about 45 minutes into our reservation.

Everyone was friendly and overall it was a good experience but the initial lack of focus was hard to forget.  They did mention they are normally not so busy.  I typically don't rate on the clientele because I don't feel that is pertinent but some of the people there were a bit obnoxious.

I did enjoy a couple of the workers.  The younger lady was down to earth and funny.  The store does have a good selection of regional wines at a competitive price plus they have nuts and bread at no cost.

My friends and I are not wine conessuirs, but coming here we've learned a lot. We enjoy chatting with the owners and everyone that works there is very knowledgeable. I often get the wine flight.
I like how I can hear my friends talk over the music, even on a busy night.
If you're a homebody there's a nice set of couches by the window, like a coffeeshop but with wine. There is also a bar.

My brother and I went here for the first time about 2 weeks ago.  We came in on a Thursday and it wasn't very busy.  We were really pleased with how reasonable the prices were and the price points of their wines.  We had a good time meeting and talking to Roger, one of the owners and friendly server Taryn.  We each tried a glass from their menu, but actually ended up purchasing one bottle of French and one bottle of Italian to drink.  They were both extremely reasonably priced (under $20) and it was fun trying the two side by side for comparison!  All in all a very relaxing place to enjoy wine....

Great place to hang out with friends and taste some great wines and cheeses.   Try the flights, you will discover many new wines.  I found many wonderful wines that I would not have bought if I hadn't had the tasting.

Definately recommend it!

Best place to hang out with a few friends and wind down.  Great atmosphere with daily wine  tastings that are reasonably priced. You are  taken care of by the owners who are extremely knowledgeable about  what they serve. Exotic quality cheeses with crackers are optional with all wine flights or bottles of wine, should you opt, and  totally worth it. A fun, casual experience
