We had a wonderful time here http://www.winecountry....  This trip was an extension of our anniversary.  The room was outstanding with a great view of the vineyards from the extra large bathroom window.  The service was excellent and the people were friendly.  When I mean friendly, I mean the genuine type.  Compare this to our Safeway supermarket on Noriega Street in San Francisco where their friendliness is contrived.

We made a reservation early, arrived on 1/22 and were originally assigned room 1 .  However, since maintenance was not complete on that room, we were upgraded to room 20.  Room 20 as seen in the website has a large king size bed with a little goody gift  bag on it. There is a cast iron fireplace and also a covered balcony looking out onto the vineyards.  The bathroom had a large jacuzzi tub also overlooking the vineyard.  The shower had two shower heads to accommodate so that you can shower with a friend. The bathroom floor was heated.  There is no television anywhere, but then who needs it.  This is a place for relaxation and quiet contemplation.

During the evening, the inn provided snacks and wine tasting. Afterwards we didn't feel like having dinner.  The following morning they offered a a buffet with many items made in their kitchen.  The inn is famous for its various recipes and they freely hand them out.

We highly recommend this place, however it is not a place for parties, as the management probably discourages it.

Our first visit here was THAT great that we had to come back and enjoy ourselves with the scenery, food, staff and hospitality that is very evident here.

Most of the rooms were booked for a wedding party which made it difficult to reserve a room...especially on a specific day we wanted and some of the rooms you needed to stay a minimum of 2 nights which we didn't have time for since the bf was only in town for several days and we had other plans. But despite those limitations, he called and in the very end, was able to get a room on the day that we wanted.

The staff was as friendly as they were a year ago when it was our first time. The food was delicious and the rooms were comfortable and very homey. This is the ideal setting for some R&R. I loved their granola the first time and forgot that you get a bag of it when you arrive. This time they've added mints and a soy candle to the welcome bag. It's always nice being treated and I know when I'm here, I can count on being treated well as a guest.

This is a far cry from what I would consider a "5 Star Resort" Try staying at a Four Seasons, a Fairmont or a Ritz Carlton, then adjust your stars yelpees. It may seem like a 5 star for some folks, but for me it was far from it. Let me point out a few things.
1.) No TV. NBA skills competition was on.
2.) shag carpet that would make a 70's hipster proud.
3.) staff who were overly friendly and a little creepy.
4.) tiny beds
5.) tiny bathroom/showers.
They had a nice "happy hour" with wine and cheese etc etc etc, but this is St.Helena and I dont feel like gathering in the lobby with the other "creepy looking guests" to break bread OK!
We were in town for a last minute private wine event. It was a little strange walking through the lobby in my tux, when other guests were in jeans and hoodies, but this place served its purpose. We were there for less than 12 hours and it was the only thing available for the weekend.
Dont let the website fool you yelp-ees. Although the cabins and suites may be a bit nicer, the basic room is less appealing than a Motel 6. Sorry.
There is an "Inn Kitty" for those of you who miss your pet.

The service is excellent here-- I told my boyfriend that even if it was a Motel 6 I'd be tempted to return, but seeing that it's a beautiful rustic lodge with private cottages, a hot tub, and pool set among the amazing grounds, that makes it a definite return destination.

Disclaimer:  I didn't know we were going here, as my boyfriend planned the entire weekend and surprised me, but he did his research well.

We arrived a little early and enjoyed our picnic out on one of their patios, which was a very favorable introduction to the grounds.  On checking in, they don't just hand you a key and direct you to your room, they tell you about the main area, the breakfast schedule, the wine and hors d'oeuvres happy hour, and walk you around the property to your room.  There are gift bags with goodies in each room, and they also supply books, DVDs, a ton of magazines, and board games.

The food is excellent-- they make their own granola and breakfast breads, which are also available for purchase-- breakfast also includes a waffle station, a huge variety of fresh fruit, egg dishes, homemade scones, cereals, yogurt, juices, etc.  The happy hour offers a substantial fruit and cheese plate, gourmet dips and crackers, and of course, vino poured by one of the local establishments.

If you're planning on going to dinner and drinking (and who doesn't want to do that?), take advantage of their free shuttle.  Janelle is such a sweetie and has great stories and recommendations on what to eat where you're going.  The last pickup from a restaurant is 11pm, which gives you plenty of time to eat without worrying about getting stranded.

I would highly recommend this spot for a romantic getaway; and if you're from out of town and haven't gotten to do as much research on your weekend as my bf apparently did, the ladies at the front desk are a wealth of information and very helpful at booking tours, tastings, reservations, you name it.

Fantastic experience. Friendly people, really a down home hospitality and the rooms are nice, the grounds are just amazing. The only reason why I'm demoting a star is because there are no tvs in the room. Normally that's not a big deal bc who wants to watch tv while you're in the wine country? Except the big game was on and hey I wanted to watch.

Hey I can not believe I am giving out 5 stars twice in one day.  This place is so warm and friendly, they upgraded us for free, they have wine and snacks (cheeese, olives, chips, dip, etc) in the evenings, they shuttle you around at night, they have a fridge with water and drinks, help youself - honor system (they trust me?) everything you need in the rooms, robes, extra pillows,   they have breakfast, they are like really really nice here, isn't that what it is all about????

What a beautiful place! The rooms are beautiful.  If you can afford it, I suggest you upgrade to one of the cottages.  It is so worth it! The room is huge with a fireplace. The bathroom is huge with a big shower and jacuzzi tub.  The Inn says it's a 2 person tub, but me and 5 of my girlfriends had no problem fitting.  It also has a nice big private balcony.
They provide a nice continental breakfast that is impressive for continental.  Fresh baked breads and muffins, a hot egg dish, fruit, yogurt, and homemade granola.  It's a perfect way to start your day before wine tasting.  The cook also hangs out and is really cool to talk to.  He was funny and very helpful with the area.
They also have afternoon wine and appetizers.  I was already too drunk from wine tasting to enjoy the wine they provided, but did get a chance to enjoy the appetizers.  Mostly cheese and crackers with a few scrumptious Hors d'oeuvres.  It's a nice little treat before dinner. I definitely recommend staying here.

My brother-in-law gave us a gift certificate to use at the Wine Country Inn, and we decided to get away for a night before meeting up with some friends to go wine-tasting.  I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to be pampered and relax for a few days.  We arrived on Friday afternoon around 5:30, right in the middle of their wine-tasting hour.  They put out lovely appetizers and finger foods and have a different winery come out every night.  We had Rombauer that night, and they poured a Zinfandel that they don't usually pour.  Then we got a tour of the place from Joyce, who was warm and welcoming.  We asked her if it would be okay to leave our car the next day while we were wine-tasting with friends and planned to carpool.  Not only did she immediately say "of course" she also said "why don't you invite your friends to our breakfast in the morning?"  Absolutely kind of them to offer.  The rooms are beautiful and have every amenity you can think of.  They just started a complimentary shuttle service run by Janelle, who is hilarious, which drops you off and picks you up at the restaurant you'll be dining.  Since there are no taxis in St. Helena, this service is really unique and lets you enjoy wine at dinner without worrying about driving (or parking, for that matter).  We enjoyed their hot tub, lovely pool, and vineyard views.  The breakfast the next morning was fantastic, not your run-of-the-mill continental breakfast.  It's a really impressive spread with tons of options.  They had all sorts of passes to wineries that allowed us to do the tastings for free.  Apparently, everywhere in Napa now charges for tastings.  One nice perk was that the other guests were also very nice and friendly.  We ran into some during our dinner and at the hot tub, and they were always friendly and chatted with us, asking us for winery recommendations and giving us recaps of the places they liked.  It may not be a deal-breaker, but it's certainly nice to know that the type of people they cater to are all very friendly.

I would definitely recommend the Wine Country Inn for a romantic relaxing weekend.  It books up fast, but they have a great website where you can check out the availability and look at pictures and info. about each room that you could book (they are all a little different).  It's definitely pricey, but it's a fantastic splurge.

Worldclass B&B in Napa's upvalley, amidst the vines. The deck of our suite overlooked the manicured gardens, across the grapes of Duckhorn and onto the slopes of Howell Mountain. Pricey ($350) compared to the city of Napa, but worth it. Super breakfast. You can mingle with the other guests, or have complete privacy. We had the pool and spa to ourselves. The afternoon tastings and hors d'ourves were a nice touch.
