Wood walls, mirrored ceiling panels, and an elderly guy wearing a full suit 'n tie will be your hostess & cashier. What? Old school style bar with draft beer, but yet this is more of a dining place than a bar. My grandparents would have loved this place.
Service was polite, and breakfast items ordered off the menu were fairly good, especially pancakes. Buttermilk were nice, but my Reeses peanut butter cup pancakes were rich and delicious. Same with Elvis French toast.
Breakfast menu has many, many options. -

We are done here. Done with the dissapearing waitress and below-poor food quality. We should have sworn you off a while ago but your just so darn convienent. We are outta here. Keep your soggy eggs and the coffee that you never seem to want to bring around when we're there!

I love the Windsor Diner and try to come every time I come to visit friends. The food is just plain good, period. The waitstaff is always nice, and if you order a turkey sandwich, you get real turkey.
The menu has so many things, and breakfast is particularly great. My last visit there, I had an egg white omelet with smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers and red onion. It was really, really delicious. -

Food is good, service is good and portions are huge and tasty.
The only issue I found is that it closes really early though, I went with my wife after doing some shopping (groceries) at 8pm on Thursday and they were almost closing (our waitress didn't tell us anything so we thought it means you're still open, right?) When we were leaving (by 9pm) door was already locked (he he he)
Next time we'll go early and try something else :-)
One last detail, place looks a little bit boring from inside (probably the darkened windows don't help much), not like a funeral home but it looks so serious. -

This diner isn't spectacular, but it's decent and close when you want a meal quickly. I always get the grilled cheese and fries. Their fries are really good. I've had pancakes before at breakfast - usually the chocolate chip variety and these are yummy. This place could definitely use a facelift, but it's okay for what it is.

(This review is for the breakfast buffet. I can't speak for the menu items.)
Maybe without the darkened windows, this friendly diner would look more like a Coco's and less like a sinister fortress of doom. It would also look less like it was closed all the time.
The inside is quite a contrast. The warm yellow lights of the buffet gleam off of shiny silver chafing dishes filled with wonders. It's a warm, but surprising greeting.
The breakfast buffet had a range of foods, from the expected (eggs, bagels, waffles, french toast), to the exciting (omelette bar, blintzes, french pastries, lox), to the slightly unusual (chocolate fondue fountain, chicken, biscuits, and gravy). There was also a ton of fresh fruit- perfect red strawberry halves and tangy pineapple. My family was pleasantly surprised that our extremely hurried meal was so decadent. -

Way over priced for a diner and the food wasn't anything special. The seafood was over cooked (which should be expected from a diner) but for the price I paid I could have gotten two meals at red lobster and had much better quality of food.

i joined 2 friends to have an early dinner (around 5pm-ish) here on a Sunday; it's a short drive from where we came from (rahway). i like the food, which was a meat lasagna w/lots of melted cheese on it. the salad bar was great! coffee was just brewed so we came at the right time. i remember seeing how my 2 friends enjoyed their meals, too (but I can't recall what they had though LOL). service is OK.

My first time in this "diner"......and it will be my last. As you enter it is a dark and dreary atmosphere to begin with. I have been in funeral homes with more vibrance. Regardless....if I ever visit a diner I usually order breakfast or a burger special plate......as even the worst diner can usually get this right....simple ingredients etc. If a diner can do these dishes correctly I may go back and order something else. Diners have too many things on the menu to begin with so how fresh and good can they really be?? So I order the burger special and I must say that I literally took two bites, ate some fries that were lukewarm and looked like they came from another diners plate.....SO I give it back to the waitress informing her that it was by far the worst burger I had ever eaten and did not care to gamble any further and order anything else. The burger was thin and tasteless, and had that old meat odor to it. Looked like it came from a wholesale market or Bubbas Burger you find in the frozen section of ShopRite...horrid crap and dangerous to ingest. To the diners credit at least they took it off the bill.
We eat out quite a bit, mostly in the city, but there is no excuse for this horrid food anywhere. Owners of ANY restaurant should know that they usually get ONE chance to win over a new customer. Not recommended. You have been warned. -

Alas, another example of how you can't go home again. And a learning experience about the restaurant industry!
I used to go to the place as a kid all the time with my parents. It saddened me to see how depressing it had become -- they underwent a bad renovation some time between when I left for college and returned 15 years later, and wound up looking like a funeral home. It was so bad that I'd assumed it was closed and boarded up for several years, and only when I found myself in the neighborhood and decided to peer into its windows, that I found it was still open. I mentioned it to the manager when I stopped in that day, and they were like "I know, I know." Reflecting upon my recent dining experience, I think I should have taken that as a sign that they're not even trying anymore.
It was a few months later that I finally got to stop by for a burger. The platter wasn't too bad -- about what you'd expect from an old Jersey diner. A good hunk of beef, hot off the grill, surrounded by piping hot fries, and topped with mushrooms, onions and cheese. A fresh slice of tomato, a crispy leaf of lettuce, and a little ramekin of cole slaw on the side.
It was what I didn't expect from an old Jersey diner that upset me. For the years that I've been going to these places, I've gotten used to the dynamic of them. A husky Mediterranean (Greek, Italian) owner, a set of matronly waitresses, all invested in the place, all hustling around to make the place work. However, this visit, I got a guy who clearly did not belong -- he was in his late 30s or 40s, recently immigrated, not Mediterranean, and probably only there because the economy is so bad. The guy looked like he'd be more at home as a computer engineer.
Actually, there was little doubt he was only there because needed the job, because when he came over to take my order, his demeanor said it all. I tried not to pay it too much mind -- I thought it was great that the diner was giving a chance to this guy who was down on his luck, and that this guy was breaking the ethnic stranglehold these places usually have.
I guess he was more than a little curious-looking, because I continued to watch him after he took my order. A good thing too, because when I watched him make my drink, I saw him bobble the tongs for the lemon slice, then pick it up with his bare hands, then wipe his nose with the top of his hand when he filled the cup. It disgusted me, but because I felt for the guy, I sheepishly told him I saw him, and asked him to do it again.
He complied without missing a beat, going into the kitchen, and coming out with a dramatic show of washing his hands. He refilled my drink, bobbled the lemon again, and I decided not to make an issue of it. I was more concerned he might do something to my food! I decided to stay, and give it a chance. I thanked him when he brought my new drink and tried to be apologetic about it, but he didn't say anything. I got my food.
Meanwhile, I kept watching him. He was clearly new. He struggled with going in and out of the swinging doors going into the kitchen, stepping in and backing off when trying to go through them.
While the other waitresses went about their jobs, picking up plates, sorting condiments, wiping down tables, he planted himself in front of the big screen TV, watching the football game and cheering it on inappropriately. It struck me that he didn't want to lower himself to the waitering, and instead was carrying himself like the owner. Watching him watch TV, it was clear his priority was fitting in, rather than doing his job. You can tell when someone's faking their enthusiasm for a sport they're unfamiliar with.
Finally, when I was finishing up my meal, he prematurely came over and said, "You done yet?" By this time, I was astonished by how inept this service was. The restaurant was empty, but he'd spent most of the time watching the football game -- with his back to me. Now, he stops by, not to check on me, but to ask if I was done inconveniencing him. Up until now, I had not appreciated the experienced wait person's question, "Can I get you anything else?"
Given my experience, would you want to spend any more time here? I left, leaving a pathetic tip for a pathetic guy. I'd considered talking to the manager, but I didn't want to jeopardize the guy's job, and have to run into him in this small town. Also, they hired him, they'd figure out soon enough that it was a bad decision. Sadly, because there are also so many good diners in New Jersey, I doubt I'll be visiting this one again. -

The owner of this diner cares, he has a huge menu and a huge breakfast buffet. they even have Greek buffet night once a month. Food is usually good, huge portions (sometimes overkill) and it's usually busy. It's a diner, so you won't get 5 star meals, but it's good for what it is.
