Review Highlights
The food is okay here, an average diner. Certain items are questionable, like the bacon being too hard to eat. Also, with my breakfast meal, fries constituted "potatoes" - not a fan. Our server was slow on the beverage re-upping. Bathroom was a bit rank. Some items on menu are overpriced. Delicious cake, and there was so much of it that I, an avid cake appreciator, had to get it to go!
I would recommend Windsor Café, as it is close to the Park and nearby theater. This place is def not for the picky palate.
Windsor Cafe has a leg-up on most diners. Here's why:
1. Really great fries. So crispy!
2. Vegetarian sausage! They do a decent job of cooking it, and I've never had a problem with them bringing me meaty sausage on accident.
3. Red eyes AND black eyes on the menu! No longer do I have to feel like a raging caffeine addict if I want both coffee and espresso. If it's on the menu, they're enabling me to caffeinate without judgment.
4. "The Fez" is a super tasty wrap of veggie burger, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, red pepper, and honey mustard. Delicious.
My only problem with this place is that their pancakes aren't light and fluffy. Instead, they're thin, flat, and sad.
Windsor Cafe surpasses the average diner. The atmosphere is ambient and wonderfully reflective of its neighborhood.
The menu has a huge selection. However, it seems that breakfast food is its specialty. My boyfriend said they make the best eggs benedict ever. Personally, I enjoy their French toast most.
However, I also enjoy their chicken fingers which are not too greasy, and their mashed potatoes =) Their salads and wraps were also amazing. Their French fries are some of the best that you can get in a diner, however you are recommended against ordering the parmesan fries- while the sauce and cheese might be a welcome addition for some the sauce tends to make the fries kind of soggy, which takes away from their usual tastiness.
The disco fries, on the other hand, are simply amazing and make you forget about how many calories and grams of fat you are probably consuming. Oh well.
Their fruit smoothies are generally very refreshing and the blends of fruit are unique and always work so well. But if you are not fond of lemon, avoid any smoothies with lemon because the lemon flavor will overpower the other fruit flavors.
Overall, this is one of my favorite diners because of its charming setting, neighborhood, and delicious food.
Windsor Cafe sets the standard for how most other diners should be!
After a long, long, long night in an unfamiliar location, I needed food. Like fast - my stomach was making noises that really sounded like it was trying to threaten me. This amused the DP to no end, but I was not taking it anymore.
I was like, dude, I need food. So he brought me here.
I was so tempted to have pancakes and eggs, but it was 3 pm and maybe I wanted a sandwich instead. A cheese sandwich. A cheddar cheese sandwich. With tomato.
And I got said sandwich, and it was good. Hot and melty, with a crispy toasted outside and tomato juices mixing with the cheese. *homer drool*
I also got a a side of onion rings, and holy sh*t they were amazing. Crunchy and flavorful and not as greasy as I would have thought. I couldn't eat them all, so I took the rest home. And ate them there.
The DP had a mountain of a Reuben Sandwich and he inhaled it. Along with his french fries. I didn't poach the fries this time as I was diligently munching on my onion rings.
The service was prompt, friendly and it was a perfect end to a pretty nice Sunday afternoon.
Next time, the DP owes me pancakes.
maybe i am too partial because i like windsor terrace, i'll take it down a star for some slow service at times and a few bland dishes. still, it gets my money on open house weekend for everything down the middle, diverse crowd, and well, there's only like two other places to eat.

Keepin it real in windsor terrace, laid back, a touch of old school working here, down to earth vibe… Read more »
I really enjoy this place. Great food, decent prices, great staff. My only complaint is that it is too small to handle the crowds (the price of success?). Whenever I am in a diner mood, this is the first diner I consider.
When some people move into a new neighborhood, they look for the nearby schools or dog parks; I look for the neighborhood diner. I am a bit of a diner freak to be honest. I'm not proud of it, but there it is. I had actually been here before once with a friend after a park day. I don't remember much about that visit, but this time it was important. This meal was going to determine if this would be my regular weekend breakfast/brunch/lunch place. Here are the reasons why it will not be:
#1 Food. I sat at the counter and waited. I finally got to order my omelet, which was supposed to come with potatoes. I suppose technically french fries qualifies as potatoes, so I can't exactly sue them for false advertising, but really? French fries with eggs? Ew. I had a couple & they were tasty, but I kept looking around to see who else had them and if they seemed to be as put off as I was.
#2 Grape Jelly. I'm not a person that would normally put jelly on her toast. Maybe it was the french fries that threw me out of my normal routine, but that day I was thinking it sounded kinda good. Like dessert. However, I had been given grape. I asked for another flavor and was told that was all they had. Again, I looked around and some people seemed to be eating it, but I always assumed no one ate grape jelly after the age of six. Even if I am wrong about that (which apparently I was), they should have more variety as some people don't like grape (me).
#3 Service. I like coffee. I drink a lot of coffee. I think I could give a walking tour of all the coffee shops in Brooklyn. Sitting at the counter, I was very close to the coffee and might have been able to reach over and serve myself my second cup. I didn't, but I seriously considered it.
One of the best deals for brunch. The italian frittata totally hits the spot. The sangria would be completely unremarkable if it weren't for the little bits of strawberries - I've not seen anyone else doing that around here, and I liked it. In all, solid. I could see myself frequenting this place.
After signing the lease for our new apartment just off PPW, we popped into the Windsor Cafe for brunch. The apple-n-oat pancakes were tart from the Granny Smith apples, sweet from the syrup, and hearty fo' sho. They kept me full for 6 hours. The waiter was REALLY nice, and brought me a free glass of sangria (decent, not great) when he heard we were celebrating.
Windsor Terrace's best diner is also one of the entire area's more solid offerings for any kind of food, thanks to clean, fun quarters, a family run (and family friendly) atmosphere, and consistent attempts to step beyond the average diner's "we buy it all in bulk" fodder.
There are several reasons that Windsor Cafe is among my favorite choices for grabbing a quick and inexpensive bite:
1) The neighborhood's best chicken salad. Mercifully, it's not exactly the same as every other eatery's. Kudos to the kitchen.
2) Order a side of sauteed spinach, and you get *fresh* spinach, cooked to order. If you're wondering why it might take a few minutes longer than some other restaurants, it's because they don't have a cauldron of the stuff fermenting on the back burner all afternoon.
3) The friendly staff becomes even more welcoming when they start recognizing you as a local/regular. This is -- isn't it? -- one of the reasons we love Brooklyn.
Solid.
Now that I've been coming here for years, I can throw on another star. There are a couple of pretty good diners in Park Slope and I am happy to have this one near my place. I might lean on it more because it is convenient, but they are also always super nice, the food is good, and the prices are reasonable. Good nabe staple.

It's a diner. Not a great one, but close to home. Staff was really nice and I am sure I will return. Read more »
I like this place. I miss diner food from my high school and college days, and this place satisfies that craving whenever it comes. Their salads are large and decent. Their wraps are exactly what you'd expect. The food is predictably decent, and the atmosphere is very chill and family-friendly. I take my parents here for lunch when they visit.
This place only gets a star because it was close enough for me to walk to. They burnt my silver dollar pancakes, over-cooked my roommate's eggs (that's not a euphemism) and took a half an hour to do it. The menu is standard diner fare and the staff, while friendly, seemed to be overwhelmed by a normal-sized brunch crowd. A quick peek back into the kitchen revealed one guy scrambling eggs, and three others watching him. Note to short order cooks of Windsor Cafe: it doesn't take three guys to scramble three eggs. And also: you can't cook for shit.
Happy New Year, Windsor Cafe. Now: close.
So here's the thing with Windsor Cafe', IT TAKES FRICKEN 45 MINUTED TO GET YOUR FOOD. It's a diner, which means it should have relatively quick service. Now as another yelper below stated he got to peak through to the kitchen, well my table was caught between 3 families arguing over their favorite baseball teams
( of course the on going " im a die hard yankees/mets fan conversation" and on they go. My point is its a very closely packed space, with not much room that you feel you are caught in other peoples conversations. The only reason this place gets two stars is because i like the "i love lucy": picture they have in the back.
I love this Dinner for brunch! My friend and I go some Saturdays after running in Prospect park to feed our hungry bellies. We share an ommelette and a waffle with vanilla ice cream and bananas on top. I have to say eating them at the same time is pretty incredible. We're pretty hooked on it.
Service is good but usually slower because of the crowd on Saturday and Sunday mornings until the early afternoon.
Their menu is pretty extensive and you'll probably find what you are looking for in terms of diner food. Their brunch special includes coffee and mimosa for $12.99 (I think).
Transporting! Not sure how old this place is, but the throwback vibe feels genuine--and earned. A friend tells me it's a real hub of the historical-quaint Windsor Terrace community.
There aren't enough decent diners in Brooklyn. Queens has the diner monopoly my friends, but I'm giving the Windsor crazy credit for having some decent coffee and a solid juicy hamburger. Are you going to fall out of your chair from the sheer yumminess of the food? Are you going to wonder where your taste-buds were before you got there? Simply put, no, but you will feel better to have gone. They do diner right, complete with old ladies kvetching and classic soft mints at the checkout. You will never feel rushed even when they're busy and they're right near the best little independently owned movie house in Brooklyn (they carry flavored toppings for your popcorn and are hardly crowded).
Try any of the hearty soups and salads at the Windsor your first go around and soak it all in. Ahh the beauty of common, decent folk on a Sunday matinee afternoon; you can't beat it.
Alex, I couldn't agree more. Terrible food, terrible service, dirty, over-priced, crowded.
I live a HALF BLOCK away and I won't go there even if *someone else is paying*!
Definitely ordered from http://delivery.com, and have not been there. The food's fine, but 5th avenue diner is closer and probably better. No, it is better. Windsor's OK, my roommate digs the moussaka, I had the scallops and was slightly underwhelmed. Maybe more than slightly.
I lived around this neighborhood and always came here for weekend breakfast. Portion was always big and pretty friendly staffs. No complain about food at all. A lot of selections to choose from. After breakfast, it's always nice to walk around Park Slope.
food is ok to good- coffee is horrendous,
I ordered two eggs with bacon at 10pm Friday night, and was pleasantly surprised: not only did the eggs come out just how I ordered (over-hard) the bacon was fresh and juicy. The plate comes with "potatoes and toast" - which turned out to be freshly cooked French fries and a plate of toast with grape jelly and mixed fruit jelly.
My fiance ordered the rigatoni a la vodka, +chicken (extra couple bucks) and was very satisfied with the big plate and plenty of chicken.
Good eats.
P.S. - Leftover pasta was still good the next day, and the service was very friendly.
this place gets three stars bc their are a little overpriced. i ordered the chocolate chip pancakes and was pretty pissed to see all the extra chARGES ON MY BILL 1.00 EXTRA FOR CHOCOLATE CHIPS., 1.00 EXTRA FOR WHIPPED CREAM. The menu stated it came with thats why i ordered it not realizing i would be nickle and dimed for each little extra.
Breakfast is the new black people. They hook it up. Weather you're a corned beef hash and two over person or you need to get your silver dollars on, they come through with the goods. I haven't had the Veal, lobster, or flowerless chocolate cake but I'd bet it's pretty good.
Trio Diner is now Windsor Cafe and let me tell you, things just aren't the same. I used to love how you could "deluxe" your breakfast order for only $2 - not available any more. New menu that honestly is boringly standard - this is basically Park Slope, although technically Windsor Terrace, and people go for something a little more daring. The people working there are super-nice though and maybe it's just new owner transitionalness or something like that.
i had a great brunch here. the food took a little longer than i'd normally like, but hey, brunch is supposed to be relaxed. when it arrived, everything was delish. they have a good list of semi-creative egg-based things, and the staff was really nice. kept my coffee filled. i'll be returning soon.
