Wimberley

Wimberley is a beautiful town to visit. Situated about 20 minutes or so west of San Marcos on RR12, as small as a town as it is, there really is a lot to do here. When you enter the town limits, you'll see picnic areas and signs for antique stores, a bonsai exhibit, and other things to see and do here.
I most recently found out that they have "Market Days" which run the first Saturday of every month starting in April. I was lucky enough to make the last couple of hours of this event for this month and the vendors are extremely friendly - one in particular asked my little man what kinds of rocks he collected and took one from his own collection to give to my son.
Jewelry, food, fruits, plants, widgets... you'll find it here! It gets crowded for sure and they charged about 5 bucks for parking so be prepared. Oh, and it starts early (I think about 7:30) and lasts until about 4 or 5.
Blanco River runs through this community and locals and visitors love wading and swimming in this area. It does run through a residential area and there are ropes and signs in up in certain places so you might want to check with the visitor's center first to find out what the rules are before you do anything.
Art galleries, bed & breakfasts, dining, shopping... this gorgeous community has it all. Oh, and if you do decide to make a day or weekend trip out here, ask for directions on how to get to the Devil's Backbone. In this area, you'll see nothing but Hill Country for miles and there's even a picnic area/rest stop you can hang out at and just take in the country.

I just hit up Market Days in Wimberley on Saturday and had so much fun. Over 250 vendors and shops to cater your brick brack desires. Parking is only $3 so get there early.
