1 review for Willowbrook Arts Camp
Wow. They've got the childlike wonder thing down pat.
Today was our first experience at Willowbrook after hearing universal raves about it for years. This is an arts and crafts day camp for ages 4 - 18 held at Browns Ferry Park in Tualatin from July through early August.
I had a little concern going into it because everything just seemed so relaxed. No requirement to book much in advance and you can choose individual days rather than an entire week. Surely I must be missing something?
This morning as I dropped off the boys, we were greeted by troubadours. Seriously. Then after check-in, the assembly area for older kids featured folk dancing.
The entire camp seems staffed by incredibly positive, fun-loving teens and college kids who guide the campers in many different art forms. Kids are grouped by age but have a multitude of choices from acting, singing, dancing, musical instruments, ceramics, drawing, etc.
My oldest couldn't stop talking about the play he's going to be in this week and how much fun he had. Things are really quite organized and efficient, but waits can be long for pick ups in the afternoon even though they have a system in place. I think some of the delays are caused because the kids don't want to leave.
2009 Update: While my kids have had excellent experiences at the camp, I've had a less than ideal experiences with the front office staff. They need to update their accounting system so parents are properly billed and don't go back and forth overpaying/underpaying, etc.
