I was looking for something comfortable, but found this gem of a B&B instead. At an incredibly fair rate, my boyfriend and I stayed at this sweet little inn for one the most perfect weekends.

First of all, the scenery where the inn sits is beautiful. We were greeted by Tom, who showed us around and gave us a history of the property/house. His wife, Janet, had made ice tea and warm chocolate chip cookies sitting out just so for our arrival. The inn itself, is meticulously decorated in a quaint, but classy country style. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, the bathroom the size of my city condo.

I want so badly to do justice to how much care goes into this inn. They grow many of their own ingredients for their unbelievably gourmet & generous breakfast (they even have their own chickens, fed organically, to supply eggs). What they don't grow organically themselves, they purchase from the local farms and markets. The cooking, is inventive and delicious. One morning we had scones with cinnamon and raisins, three grain warm cereal, waffles topped with whipped cream, strawberries and pecans, followed with an omelet with portabello mushrooms and brie. The next morning, it was biscuits, warm three grain cereal, asparagus frittata w/ goat cheese and blueberry french toast pudding. Everything totally made from scratch. Amazing!

You too will be dazzled by the William Cox Inn. I would choose to stay here time and time again.

My husband and I stayed in the little cabin at the William Cox Inn, so I can't comment on the bedrooms in the inn.  The inn is pretty remote, so dining options are limited, but there's a nice little restaurant called the Standard close by.  The inn is big and gorgeous.  They have a ridiculously large breakfast, every bit of which is terrific.  In the late afternoon you can have a glass of local wine; after dinner, there's port and chocolate.  Very civilized, very relaxing.  We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

It's an old mansion turned into a beautiful B&B 15miles or so away from the Shenandoah National Park.  We stayed here for a work retreat and loved the place.

The property is 28 acres and it has a small organic vegetable garden, a short hike to a creek, Bocce ball court, etc.  The main house is huge with a small pool, a mini gym and a home theater with wii.  The owners are very friendly and gave us a nice service that had a personal feel to it.  The food was very fine, with a lot of focus on homemade food with organic ingredients.  The food was not always prepared on time, but if that bothers you in a place like this, you really need to learn to relax.  At night there was a plate of desert wines and chocolate left in the living room.  Overall a very fine experience that I would love to repeat in the future.

We had the whole place to ourselves, but when there are other guests, I imagine that privacy could be an issue.  The house is clean but old, and sound does travel.

The GPS is next to useless when you get close.  The address 341 Chapman Road will get you close, but make sure you write down the directions from their website.

Perfect BB.  Tom and Janet are a good team.   Interesting BB mixing historic with contemporary furnishings. Library, pool incredible breadfast. and enviornmentally conscious.  Will come back.
