PROTIP: This cafe only accepts cash.
Unfortunately, I only realized this after I had already eaten my breakfast and was ready to pay with the only thing I had on me, credit card.
If you don't have cash but have a debit card, you're in luck. There's an ATM conveniently located outside the cafe.
Menu was overwhelmingly awesome (considering price and variety). They offer wrap, sandwich, panini, burgers, pasta specialties, fresh salads (served with homemade bread), appetizers, sides, soups, main dishes and get this...breakfast.
Their breakfast menu was the best part - breakfast platters and sandwich, omelets, bagels & others galore! They even have a section called "healthy breakfast" which is yum yum yum.
I had the Granola w/ fresh fruit and yogurt and it was insanely good (and cheap too! $4.95). MMMM I would totally go back, cash in hand and try everything on the menu.
Staff is young, friendly and understanding.
Food is good and relatively inexpensive. Service isnt poor from my several times at it. Good big tasty salads, good coffee and breakfast as well. Its roomy too so you can settle down. Not spectacular but solid and a good regular go-to spot.
+ points:
* Price
* Salads as big as my torso
(I am 5'2" so, yes that is realistic)
* Delicious Salad Concoctions
* Window Seats
* High Ceilings
* Nice Waitress
- points:
* Cash Only (ATM outside)
* Slow Service (one person working)
* Bad Hummus
(My fault, this place is not Mediterranean)
I would absolutely go back in hopes of switching things off the "- list" and onto the "+ list".
Ok, how hard is it for someone to consistently mess up a bagel order? Apparently very easy for the folks at Willburg.
The past FOUR times I've attempted to order an "everything bagel with butter and a plain bagel with no butter, both toasted," they have, without fail, managed to somehow give me the exact opposite of what I order.
Oh, you don't want butter because you're vegan? Too bad.
Oh, you want an everything bagel? Sesame seed is good enough, right? Wrong.
Oh, you said toasted? How about we just put it in the microwave for 5 seconds.
Oh, not only did we not give you what you ordered.... let's go ahead and charge you an extra 30% for no apparent reason.
They're always apologetic and their food is not bad, but I'm running out of patience. At least I can usually expect to listen to good music while I'm waiting...
Think I'll walk the extra few blocks to SECOND STOP, since they are awesome...review on them coming next...
Food, coffee, service, etc just perfect. Great place in our area.
My friends took me to Willburg today. It's their favorite Sunday breakfast spot in the area. I had the $5 Willburg B'Fast sandwich which is brie, tomato, and lettuce on a croissant. It was heaven to my mouth after not eating for 16 hours! One of my friends had an omelette and really liked it, and the other friend had the $4 2 eggs any style plate with toast and breakfast potatoes.
Will be back again soon for sure!
I love this place. Their coffee is unbelievable! It's so much better than all of the places around it.
Sorry, Cafe Niasol. I like watered down, Cinnamon flavored, fair trade coffee as much as the next guy, but you're not in the same league.
Sorry, Gimme! Coffee. Your coffee is a close second but this place is less crowded and the people working here are all very friendly.
Sorry, Sunac. Your overpriced, bitter organic coffee gets beat like a redheaded stepchild.
Disappointed. Ordered one of the pasta specials - the penne with grilled veggies and tomato sauce. It was...not very good. Way too much sauce for the amount of pasta and the sauce was just an odd consistency. Plus 1 star for a peaceful atmosphere and their fresh limeade. Haven't tried the coffee but honestly I'm not inclined to come back and try.
If Ikea met up with Cafe Grumpy to create their own version of a diner, it would be this place. Most patrons are alone with their laptops, the vibe is sort of hushed, the furniture looks new yet comfortably worn. The food is standard and uncreative, but decent and well-priced. I had the pesto chicken salad, which came in a huge bowl. I'd come back if I were in the area.
So i was up early after a night of lushing. Forced my mothers need to
bond over bagels and pedicures. I was craving a muffin, after hitting
up two spots i was muffinless and ready to eat anything anywhere.
This was the closest place to my nail salon.
I walk in, all smiles from everyone who worked there, even ppl just
eating. Being me, often to much of a NYer i don't trust smiles that are
given without money or tongues being involved. But i as i ordered i
realized that the smiles were provided by the amazing brunch special
3.75 eggs toast and bacon. YummO. The real cherry on the sunday is
the coffee, holy jellybeans its good! The Vanilla Mocha, with soy and
just a little whip cream, and ummm im in my happy place.
I heart this place but it only loses one star cuz our waitress was a little
loopy , i canceled an orange juice and somehow magical two lattes.
But she was sweet about it. And i drank em both bitch!
The crazy worker is ok, cuz the coffee makes up for it. I might be
jumping the gun...but im gonna call this the best coffee in
Williamsburg, yea i went there fuck Gimmie Coffee, screw Warma
Cafe, move over Cafe Niasol. Time to work on ur game, cuz ur getting
beat!
I have been walking over here because Warma is closed for renovations.
Ice coffee is pretty good, and they have a nice breakfast selection. I wonder who taught the cooks how to make an omelette though...sometimes they add way too much stuff to it, other times not enough. Sometimes the omelette ingredients are not fully cooked.
I like that its a normal non pretenious place to go and have a quick bite. Never too busy & the prices are decent.
I will let you know if I keep going here for my weekend breakfasts after Warma re-opens!
My boyfriend and I love to have brunch at Willburg. It has a relaxed atmosphere and great music. The girls are super sweet and attentive. The food is amazing. This place is the best!
Now that's a hearty breakfast.
I had the European omelet with LOTS of spinach, tomato and brie in it. They definitely don't skimp on freshness or size.
My SO had the Western which had a ton of bacon and red pepper in it. Both came with roasted potatoes on the side, which were extremely delicious.
Prices on omelets were between 6-8 bucks, not bad.
Their coffee was also good and I am a tough critic with caffeination.
The atmosphere is very low key and not intimidating.
If you want to escape the crowds of hipsters...I'd duck in here and relax.
Despite living within walking distance, it took me a year to finally visit Willburg Cafe. In hindsight, that was kinda stupid of me. I could have saved myself from many nights of greasy Chinese food, had I only known how lovely their sandwiches are. Went for lunch and had a veggie burger and fries. The rest of my party had wraps and fries. The french fries were made from actual potatoes! If they came out of the freezer, man they did a good job of making them seem fresh. The veggie burger was house made and generally impressive, even if it did taste of falafel and was a bit too moist. Service was quick and friendly. The atmosphere was totally laid back and casual.
I like this place - and I hope it survives. They have good coffee and get their pastries from Baltazar's I believe. So can't go wrong there. And the food is quite good. A lot of healthy yummy options. (And yes, those two go hand-in-hand). I just think it's a little overpriced. But I'll pay it to keep this place around.
Don't get the 'fresh juice' though - $3 for a small - and it tastes like bad from-a-can concentrated blah.
man, is it just me or is that first 5-star review by "elijah" (the only review by that profile, might i add) totally a ringer? i'm sorry but everything about it just REEKS of somebody associated with the place trying to talk it up.
this place is just okay. not bad, not great. their delivery is pretty decent. their hours have them closing fairly early, so that kind of sucks.
also, i can't hep but wonder how these guys managed to afford opening up another place down the street (manna) because whenever i walk past willburg, there's hardly ever anybody actually in there.
If you're looking for a non-greasy lunch or brunch spot, this is it. The vibe is unpretentious but modern and well-kept. There's a little vegetarian slant on the inexpensive menu, though there are plenty of meat dishes as well. The whole grain pancakes and waffles are divine. I also recommend the California salad (a ton of food), granola & yogurt, and the chai (delllllllicious). It's also a great place to read or do work; you won't get hassled by the man. And they'll even deliver to Greenpoint if you order enough food (like $20). Rad.
My friend and I came here to do some work and get some food. This place is clean and spacious with lots of tables. The staff seem nice and laidback. They have lots of food options: sandwiches, wraps, salads, etc., some of which are a bit on the pricey side for a cafe. I had the lentil soup which was tasty and reasonably priced. The cons: It does NOT have wifi and they have table service, which is annoying if you just want to sit down with your laptop and do some work.
good omelettes, smoke salmon sandwich. only issue is the decor/ambiance (still trying to figure it out, ikea meets a couple of paintings)
I live down the block and have popped in a few times, mostly because the burger is one of the best around. Maybe it's Adobo, but it's really flavorful, and cooked a perfect medium rare, and you can pick fries or a little green salad. Which is nice. The service is friendly and the prices are decent. I agree with all the other reviews that the place looks spotless. The decor is a little too Ikea minimalist for me, but that is a very minor complaint. Also, I did notice that they put up a sign and they do BYOB now with no fee. Which, to me, is great. I can't wait to have a beer with my delicious burger!
