Wilderotter is one of the best wineries to visit in Amador County. Every wine on their tasting list is amazing: whites & reds alike. My favorites were the Rose and the Mourvèdre. They take the time to explain where their grapes are grown for each (as they do have vineyards locally and in the napa area) and how their wine is made. Also great suggestions for pairings.

Good one to check out, lots of reds with very little tannin. great for tasting but a bit expensive to actually purchase anything (student budget - theres plenty of great wines to purchase for $10 - 15 in Amador county but this is not the one of them).
Beautiful vinyard with nice outside patio area. Knowlageable staff, friendly, and educational, learned a bit about barrle aging and other processes.
would visit again. -

I've been coming to Amador county for wine for six years now, and somehow I have managed to miss this place up until yesterday! Never again will Wilderotter go unnoticed---they have AMAZING wines!
I was surprised to see several whites on their list, as most places in Amador have one or two whites if any at all. Chris and I loved that their wines are all pretty dry (we passed on the dessert wine), and the number of different varietals that they do (and do WELL!) is impressive. They source some grapes from Napa and the Russian River area, which explains the selection.
We got six bottles (chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, viognier, barbera, tempranillo, and petite syrah) and joined the wine club...just what we need, another wine club membership! LOL, it's worth it!
Definitely pay them a visit if you haven't already, and don't forget to pet Snickers, their big ol Lab that hangs out in the tasting room :)Listed in: I'd like some wine with that…

This pretty little winery in Amador County is one of my favorite. It's got a nice little patio in the back with a few tables and a view of the vineyard. Perfect for a small picnic. Their wines are yummy. I won't begin to pretend I know anything about wines, but I know what I like.
If you live in the Sacramento Valley and you haven't tried wine tasting in this region, you really are missing out. -

Beautiful tasting room and a wonderful selection of wines. If you like white wine you are in for a treat with the viognier, sauvignon blanc and chardonnay. On the red side they have tempranillo, barbera, syrah, mourvedre and zin. For dessert a light and well done vin doux.
The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about the wine. The gentleman helping us talked to us about the wine club before we even began our tasting which was the only downfall. Otherwise the overall experience was wonderful!
Another fantastic day in Amador wine country! -

It amazes me how many Sacramento area residents do not realize this region exists! Such a fabulous alternative to the hustle and bustle of Napa. 35 wineries within 40 miles East of Sacramento just off Jackson Highway. Rolling hills, oak trees and expansive vineyards make for a lovely pastoral and peaceful setting.
Wilderotter is one of the best of the bunch...I'd say definitely in the top 5. It is hard to find white wines, let alone GOOD white wines in the area as it can get quite hot and lacks the kiss of the coastal fog, but Wilderotter provides at least 4 exceptional white wines. My fav was the Viogner, but they're best known for their signature wine, the Sauvignon Blanc.
Cute tasting room set down in the vineyards so you can actually see the vines from which the wine is made.
Was there this weekend and they currently have 14 wines on the tasting menu!! Most are estate grown. And of course you have to give an additional star just for their greeter- a chocolate lab named Snickers. -

This past weekend, a girlfriend arranged for a little girl wine tasting trip to a region that I didn't even realize existed as big as it does: Amador County. We visited 7 wineries, and Wilderotter capped the day. I purchased a bottle of their 2007 Zin and 2008 Chardonnay. I'm writing this as I finish a glass (with an early re-pour) of the Zin, which I enjoyed with a prime rib stir fry over brown rice that I prepared.
OMG, this Zin tastes even better than it did at the vineyard. Its notes hint of berries and a bit of a sweet finish. Not overly smoky, it's just a joy to drink.
At the winery, I fell in love with their greeter, a red-coated Golden Retriever named Rusty, appropriately. All of the folks behind the counter were amazing hosts, including the winemaker. I loved that he was just there to hang with us in the showroom.
And it has to be said that Amador in general has generous (and free!) tasting rooms. I believe that it exemplifies what Napa used to be before it got extremely touristy.
I will certainly join their wine club! -

This was our first stop during the Amador County's Harvest Festival and my boyfriend and I fell in love instantaneously. Naomi and Jay helped us and were super friendly and knowledgeable about the wine. They also not afraid to mention how many awards the wines have won; they are proud of the wine they serve. Purchased barberas and even joined their wine club. Looking forward to picking up our wines and enjoying them for a long time!

This was the first winery we stopped at during our tour last weekend. My boyfriend and I are pretty much wine novices but are eager to learn more. This was the perfect place for us to start. Immediately, we were pleasantly greeted by an older gentleman who provided us with some very useful information about wines and the best way to enjoy the tastings. He got us started on their extensive list of whites all the while explaining how the wine is made and what kind of grapes are used. I wasn't exactly head over heels for the whites but they weren't bad. He did the same with the red wines and never once talked over our wine knowledge lacking heads. At the end of our tastings he asked what other wineries we were going to visit and offered up some suggestions which was nice.
Since this was our first stop, I thought I'd just grab one bottle of wine to try. It was really hard to decide between Mourvèdre and the Cabernet Sauvignon. I enjoyed both equally as they were quite mellow with a nice finish. I opted for the Cab that was made with Napa grapes and I can't wait until I open it up! I was surprised that I also really liked their Grenache Rosé which was chilled. I might have to go back and pick one up before the end of summer. -

Beautiful wines: thank you Jay, Sam and crew for making what I new believe to be some of the best juice in the 'Valley. There wasn't a thing on the menu that wasn't to my liking. Great Sauvignon Blanc, and they make an impressive Tempranillo. Not to be missed!
