Here's a bit of advice: Plan your rafting trip for END of your Colorado vacation. Why? Because all the rest of your adventures and excursions will seem super-lame after your trip with Wilderness Aware.
We're a family of 4. Youngsters are 9 and 12 and they were totally able to participate in the experience. Everything about WA was top-notch. Facilities are clean and feel new, check-in process was smooth, rental equipment was fairly priced (rented splash jackets...SO did not need them), safety talk was thorough, all guides were fun and engaging.
Lunch provided on the full-day Brown's Canyon trip was a make-your-own-sandwich spread after snacking on yummy veggies, fruit, chips, etc..  Not super-luxurious but exactly what you need/want after hanging on the river for a few hours. It was all very tasty and definitely hit the spot.
The absolute worst part of our trip was dealing with the begging and pleading from our kids. They wanted to raft every day for the rest of our vacation. Dang kids! And I was having a hard time choosing between the half-day and the full-day. Didn't know if they could hang. Pfft!
I'm already planning our next trip to CO for next summer. Let's see what the Arkansas River is like in July. Woo-HOO!!!!

THANKS TO OUR GUIDE BRIDGET!! YOU WERE AWESOME!

We used Wilderness Aware to go down the Upper Salt River... I have previously used a different company (who was also excellent) but I'll give W.A. the Yelp! love for now because of their online savvy.

The Salt is about a 2 hr. 15 min. drive from Phoenix.  Four companies have contracts there and they all meet at the same spot.

    So much to love:
    1) Online savvy -- they used a promotion through Groupon to get us in for $85/head.  That's unheard of.  I added one person late and while they didn't give us the same rate, they did knock off 10%.  There's always some sort of promotion.
    2) GREAT guides who all seem to like each other --- none of us are river rats.  In fact, only 2 of our 6 people (ages 22 to 60) had been before and I don't think we'd win any paddling awards.  Still, Meghan kept us calm, afloat, informed and entertained.  Brad (?) did the opening training / safety number and it was to-the-point and had our attention.  You'll be saying "hot action!"  (even if you have no idea what the eff he means)
    3) Great grub.  Another company does burgers and dogs as a main course.  No issue with that.  But these guys start you off with a slew of appetizers (fruit, vegetables, chips & salsa) and then they do hot chicken or beef fajitas with fresh grilled vegetables, black beans.

Negatives?  I'm nitpicking... but I wish the CD of our photos was more affordable ($50 is a little spendy, no?).  But I'm glad we left while we were still having fun.... consider us hooked.

LOVED this company!  The entire day was amazing.  There was a point where it was overcast and freezing.  Thank goodness the guides were prepared and handed out wool sweaters to put on under our wetsuits.  When we stopped for lunch they built us a fire, an amazing fajita lunch, and hot chocolate.

All of the guides were well trained, skilled, extremely outgoing and fun.  My friends and I all had an amazing time and only wanted more hot action!  Our only regret is only rafting for one day.  Next year we want to do a longer trip!  Kudos to this company and most importantly their amazing rafting guides.

I hope there is another groupon for this next year!

In continuing with the tradition of high ratings, I give these guys 5 stars.  We went in the busiest time of year - a summer weekend.  The river was incredibly crowded but our guide was great at steering us out of the water traffic.  The training and safety were fine, and the snack on the bus ride home doesn't hurt!  We did the half-day trip and I'm glad about that since I could have gone for a more adventurous level.  I recommend them as a great, safe, fun company.
