I went in with minimal kayak knowledge and walked out with a kayak and accessories for my boyfriend. The staff was friendly and helpful, and showed me how to load the kayak onto my car so I would be able to do it later without a pro around.

My wife and I were planning to take a weekend hiking/camping trip in Western VA and needed some supplies. I went to the store looking for a specific model of canister stove. Two different people helped me, and both were really helpful. They seemed genuinely interested in helping me find the best product to fit my needs. When I asked for some help picking out some good trails, they were also really helpful. The whole experience felt comfortable and informative. Later, when I had to return the stove due to a defective ignitor, they were willing to try and fix it. Having worked retail, I know that this level of service is rare. Wild River has a great staff and really good prices on sale items. the inventory is also some of the best around.

Don't go shoe shopping there unless you have plenty of time and patience. They had a limited selection of 5 fingers. If you're looking for 5 fingers I would recommend GSS gear. Better plan ahead on GSS as well since they aren't open on Sundays.
