Asian Fusion.....
We arrived late in Seattle on Easter weekend and this place was near closing time. We were able to get in thankfully.
It's pretty dark inside with a "cool" feel inside, it's open with 2 levels to make the space feel even more impressive.
The menu is long and there are plenty of dishes on offer. The satay sticks were ok and the duck pancakes and curry dish were good. However, although this place gets a 3 star rating, it's just not memorable enough for me. It's a place to eat and enjoy company rather than be wowed by the culinary delights on offer.... -

I visited Wild Ginger with friends over the weekend after a movie downtown. I would call Wild Ginger "Asian Fusion," a little bit of everything -- which I'm a fan, I just wish the food delivered a little more punch.
They have a nice little drink menu with a full bar (I even saw Campari gleaming in the sun on the shelf!) and a decent selection of local brews. The drinks were tasty and reasonably priced (my friend had a gin & tonic, another friend a mango mojito which he liked, said it wasn't too sweet, another a local brew).. However, the food just didn't live up to what I'd hoped it would be.
I ordered a papaya salad, which had no peanuts (even though the menu states that it does) and a very bland dressing (b-l-a-n-d!). I'm used to getting a swift kick (tangy!) when I order papaya salad, but not this day. I also ordered the prawn and salmon skewers, both left a little to be desired, although I'll say the prawns were definitely much tastier and better seasoned, but the dipping sauce just wasn't my fave.
The decor is super cute (modern chic) and it's has a large seating capacity. We went on a Saturday at 6pm and it was nearly full -- to my understanding, Wild Ginger gets a good crowd from the venues close by, and another reviewer called this place "touristy." I would definitely say there's a good tourist crowd here, but that shouldn't keep you from going to a great restaurant. If Wild Ginger could just deliver on the food, I could see myself frequenting this spot, touristy or not. Maybe this could be a nice spot for Happy Hour??
Definitely can't recommend, if I were in the area and there wasn't anything else around that I wanted to try, I might go back. Nothing horrible, but nothing spectacular either. -

4+ stars for the Mango Mojito alone!!!
But other than that, everything is just average. Food is meh. I could never tell which Asian flavor/cuisine the dish was. I guess that's the down side about "fusion" food. The setting seems to be nice for group dinner and corporate events. But other than that, I wouldn't come here for the food. Maybe next time, all I will be ordering is mango mojito! -

Except for the price, nothing else was outstanding. Satay was just OK. Had Mongolian noodles for Entree, it was just plain OK, with no noticeable veggies. Sake was not as fragrant as we are used to. Waitress seemed eager to get our entree orders and would not recommend anything in particular. Asked about vegetarian options, she said, "it should all be there in the menu"!!!! Overall, an expensive place for OK food/ambiance.

Tourist trap! Wild Ginger is one of those really popular, trendy Thai restaurants that doesn't actually know how to make Thai food properly. I had the Pad Thai and I wasn't surprised when the food was totally bland. If you want good Thai food, downtown isn't the place to find it.

Review from Henry B.
The one thing I like about this Asian Fusion restaurant is the modern decor and trendy atmosphere. Dining at the bar is a great way to complete the day with a local brew or an Asian brew like a Tsing Tao or Singha.
As for the food, well, I'm not a big fan of fusion cuisine. If it's done right, it could be something I'll come back to in future trips but the food was just not my kind of taste. Most of the menu consisted of food featuring the Southeast Asian variety. We started with the fragrant duck, seven flavor beef, sichuan green beans, and black pepper scallops. Just be aware that each dish had a small or large portion option. The waiter didn't ask and assumed we wanted the small portion size. Yeah, it was small alright. It was like a mini meal as each dish was the size of an appy. There wasn't enough food for three of us, so we ended up ordering more food: kung pao chicken and Princess prawns.
The overall presentation of the food was average and taste was just not outstanding at all. After being exposed to the great Asian cuisine in Vancouver, this type of fusion food just doesn't make the cut. First, the fragrant duck was not juicy but very dry. It only came with 4 steamed buns and cost extra 50 cents for each bun. The seven flavor beef that everyone raved about was not as good as I thought, more salty then the anticipated complex flavors my taste buds were craving. I would say most of the dishes were just salty as I didn't get enough of the spices that were mention on the menu.
Sorry to say, I'm going to put Wild Ginger with PF Changs as not my favorite places for food. I guess it depends on your past culinary tasting experience. If you don't frequent the best Asian restaurants from cities like SF or Vancouver then Wild Ginger might be a new experience. But, coming from Vancouver, you can definitely get better Asian food for a better price.
Service was good though, friendly staff. Awesome decor, just wish the food could be better. -

Yelp's description of a 3-star review is perfectly fitting for Wild Ginger: A-OK.
I met an old friend here for dinner. I had a short period of time to eat and our server was perfectly accommodating to that, timing her take-out order with our schedule. The decor was pretty. The food was okay. There wasn't a thing special about the meal and the food seemed pretty dumbed down for an bland pallet.
Brown rice was good. Kung Pao chicken was good, though no spice to it. My girlfriend and I noticed they had a good "mocktail" selection.
I guess I'd come back for take-out but wouldn't spend the money to dine inside again. -

Yes..."Yay! I'm a fan." :)
Pros:
You will stuff your face and quench your thirst!!! Eat everything you can try or what the waitress recommends! Popular dishes...something duck, fancy chicken, phad thai (thai places can't f* this up or else expect everything else to suck!), ahai, chocolate fudge brownie raspberry cake, I forgot the rest because I went into a food coma!
Cons:
Don't pay for this tab on your own - easily distracting with the great atmosphere and employees and whoever you take here! 4-stars only because I paid for this fine dining by myself lol, will give it 5-stars next time I go & the whole group pays :) Dolla Dolla bills - expect to drop'em here! :)
Went here for my gfs bday :) Had great seating - even though we arrived late for our reservation (typical women)! All the staff was beyond friendly! Loved our waitress, she had the best recommendations. Everyone thought we had more people showing up to eat with us and kept asking if we needed a bigger table to accommodate room - nope just us two girlies! Lol...we ate pretty much everything and took our little leftovers to the bum on the corner - he couldn't thank us enough, he even knew this place was http://bomb.com! -

Had our Easter dinner at this legendary place. Wild Ginger was the very first Asian Fusion restaurant in this area.
I have not patronized them so long since the founding excutive chef "Wild
Jim" , who was the James Bread awarded winning chef retired.
I am glad they still maintain the quality of foods and level of services.
We had family style larger portion dishes including starters squash stew, Siam fish lettuce cup, fried chicken wings, salmon in bamboo leaves, wild mushroom w pea pods, the fragrant duck with extra buns, Hong Kong scallops, Thai passion tofu w eggplant, curried lamb. Thai noodles.....
All delicious. Good use of spices.
Prices are high but worth it.
Will recommend to all out of town friends. -

I have to start with a huge kudos to the staff at Wild Ginger. The staff was amazingly attentive, polite, and organized. They handled our group with finesse and great detail it made the dining experience that much more enjoyable. Thank you for taking care of our team and being so accommodating to those with allergies, and are vegetarians.
The food was top notch. One of the best restaurants I have been to in a long while. We did a multi-course meal which was a bit slow to run through, but definitely gave us all the chance to enjoy the food and conversation with our peers. Their signature drink the ginger vodka lemonade is absolutely phenomenal! Definitely my most favorite drink of all time. The greatness of vodka with the wonderful after taste of ginger. Absolute heaven in a glass!
The Mahi Mahi was cooked to die for, and the veggie dishes were so fresh and crisp. Everything tasted so fresh and wasn't doused in overwhelming spices, which I am typically used to in other Asian style restaurants. After such an amazing meal they topped us off with an amazing sorbet!
Wild Ginger is amazing for group dinners, and for one on one's with a friend or loved one. I definitely recommend this place to anyone that loves Asian style food, or just a nice quiet place to enjoy a great meal in Seattle. -
Review from Joyce J.
I came here again for happy hour for an organization and I am a fan now. Some of my friends don't like this place because it's not very "authentic" but I think Asian Fusion can be really awesome if done right. I had ordered the Indonesian Fried Chicken Wings (8 for 6 for HH) but the server made a mistake and gave me Vietnamese Chicken Wings instead (which only had 6 wings). No matter, the wings were nicely fried with a sweet glaze. I really enjoyed them.
My friend also ordered the chicken pot-stickers. These pot-stickers were huge. Usually the pot-stickers having their fillings as either 1 part meat v. 1 part veggie or 2 part veggie v. 1 part meat, but this place gives you almost all meat. So needless to say, these pot-stickers were refreshingly meaty.Another friend ordered the salmon skewer, which didn't stand out to me.
One thing I do really enjoy about this place is that they have local brew. I had the Scuttlebutt Stout and the brewery is based in Everette. The other selections on tap were also Pacific Northwest brews. Granted this place is a bit pricey for happy hour, i actually it's not too bad of an option if you are just craving some Asian Fusion. Plus this is a very neat and hip place where you can bring your non-Asian coworkers without them feeling being out of place.1 Previous Review: Show all »

This was one of the restaurants we visited during Restaurant Week. It was highly recommended by a co-worker and after tasting the food, I can see why this it has done so well over the years. The restaurant prix fixe meals were delicious. The asian fusion dishes were well seasoned and the ingredients very fresh. What I wasn't expected was the desserts to be so good. Yum!!

From out of town but brought here by a friend in the know and am I ever glad! We got several small plates (not at all small) and shared the sustainable seabass, the mango pork, green beans, and Thai noodles. All pretty reasonably priced and would absolutely go back again.

I feel like the "Yelp Grench" by going against everyone here, but oh well! I don't care for this place. I've only been here a couple of times and both times were for dinner. The food isn't worth the price and there isn't much flavor to it. There's more flavor in food from Ghengas Khan down the street than this place.
It's just funny to me how many people actually think establishment is more than what it actually is. Yes, the staff is friendly and the decor is nice, but the food is "meh" at best. I've definitely experienced much better. -

Not bad, not great. Years ago this place was "da bomb" but now not so much. It has a nice menu but it doesn't have the incredible freshness that I think made it famous all those years ago. I LOVED it when it was at its old location at below the Market.
Our server was professional and helpful with the menu. The drinks were nice albeit pricey...especially one of our party's spicy margarita which had some serious heat! The wine list is extensive, probably more extensive than necessary. Anyway, our appetizers were better than the entrees. The dumplings were pretty tasty and the duck was moist and the buns yummy. Our entrees were just okay. My shrimp were a little overcooked and lacked depth of flavor. My brother's Sea Bass was delicate but lacked a fresh flavor or uniqueness. The 7 spice beef was fine but not exceptional as it used to be. Seemed like everything was less inspired like a chain restaurant. Sad really as I think of it as a Seattle tradition. But I think its time to move on. -

This is a great 'nice dinner' spot. A great asian fusion restaurant in the heart of downtown Seattle!
Delightful ambiance, tasty food, friendly staff and good portions (they have small and large size dishes - small is enough for 1 person)
Get the Wild Ginger Fragrant Duck which is their house specialty. The meat is so tender and moist. The plum sauce is thick, so rich in flavor - sweet and salty. -

-Diverse vegetarian menu
-Incredible sorbet. Best I've ever had.
-Comfy location downtown
Downers
-Some dishes have pretty mundane flavor
-A few overly pricey items
The Scoop
I've been through Wild Ginger a few different times. I have to say its a nice restaurant. It is a break from the small, casual vegetarian restaurants throughout the rest of the city. The food has always been acceptable. Variety, quality and portion size are all where they should be. The one thing that was absent was flavor. It may have been what I ordered, but I've left with that feeling more than once. In particular the peanut tofu and noodles dish they offer comes to mind. Overall the best dish I have eaten from Wild Ginger was their mango sorbet. It is the best. You have to order it if you pop in here.
They are always filled up too, so be sure to try for a reservation! -

I was a regular at the "OLD" Wild Ginger down by the Market. Definitely a 5 star restaurant & atmosphere. I recently visited the new location and was a bit disappointed.
The Good: Fantastic Menu
The OK: the Atmosphere (just didn't do it for me)
Recommend: The "Duck & Saute` Bar" -
Review from Ed D.
This restaurant is enormous, yet still popular enough to have a hard time getting a reservation. Both the food and service are very good, though, so I see the attraction.
The seafood lettuce wraps were excellent, as was the 7 flavor beef. I'd rank our thai chicken satay and main course lamb chops as "very good." We also General Tsos chicken as a main dish, but I'd rank it as just "so so." The salad and noodles were fine. I never like potstickers, so I won't comment on that dish.
HUGE dinner for three with no alcohol cost us around $160 (without tip), which is not more than I'd expect for a nice place downtown. All around, a good experience. -

I came to Wild Ginger with a few of my colleagues a little while ago. The first thing I noticed was the atmosphere - very trendy yet comfortable. I loved the chairs and table, which were very unique, and enjoyed looking around at the decor.
The customer service from the waitress was awesome. She was friendly, polite, and had a ton of recommendations. She was very willing to accomodate any special "requests" we had and checked in often to see if we needed anything.
The appetizer was excellent! They had dumplings (my favorite!) and they were delicious. The main course, however, left quite a bit to be desired. I realized when we walked in that this was an asian fusion restaurant, but I still felt that my food was somewhat bland and lacking any "kick" or spice. Same goes for the two colleagues I was eating with. Everything was presented beautifully, however.
For lunch, the prices weren't all that bad. I took a glance at the dinner menu, and it is quite pricey! A little too pricey if the food was the same quality as what I ate - in my opinion.
Wild Ginger seems to be a decent lunch option in the downtown area. This place has potential, and I will update my review if I happen to wander into this restaurant again. -

Had a good time last night getting drinks with a friend. Met a cute girl named Christie (modulo spelling variation) with a pretty smile. Had some satay sticks, a g&t, an elysian beer. Good times.
Imo, the beef satay shouldn't be one really long hunk of beef, but should be cut into 2 or 3 pieces for easier eating. But it was good.
Peanut sauce should have a kick to it, and should be more plentiful too.
But was good times. Too bad Tom The Bartender no long works there. Oobla Dee, Oobla Da, I guess. -

I took an out-of-town guest to Wild Ginger on a busy Saturday night. We'd made reservations on Open Table, and they seated us promptly. We ordered Pot Stickers to start--they were cooked perfectly, and the dipping sauce was so amazing that we saved what was left for the rest of the dinner. We had a small portion of the duck (perfect for two people), the tofu & eggplant, and a bowl of mussels with a coconut curry sauce. All three were just fantastic. I get the duck everytime I go there--even my teenaged son loves it. The tofu & eggplant are seasoned so perfectly, that with every bite you want to close your eyes and savor what's going on in your mouth. And the mussels. Wow. I will definitely order them again. We poured the sauce on our rice and ate WAY more than we should have.
The only reason this isn't 5 stars is that our service was a tad spotty. She was VERY nice and accomodating, but we would go for long stretches without seeing her when we needed something! -
Review from Liz M.
It's a 3.5 but I'm going to round down because it'd be a 3 if I had actually paid for my lunch. The other reviews pretty much sum it up: decent food that's overpriced. I ordered the spring rolls, which came with a spicy pineapple dipping sauce, and thought they were pretty good but didn't knock my socks off. I also had the duck based on the recommendations of Yelp reviewers and again, good but not wonderful. The duck to rolls ratio was off and I would have preferred no bones on my plate. Service was fine, and the restaurant was surprisingly quiet given how busy they were at the lunch rush.

Wild Ginger was a "must see" when we went to Seattle, according to friends & co-workers. We called the day before to make a reservation, and WOW this place is busy! For a Thursday night the earliest we could get was after 9pm, so we opted to show up and sit in the bar. It was packed, but we found a cozy spot for two.
It took our waitress about 15 minutes to find us for our drink order & then another 15 before our drinks were brought to the table. She was in such a hurry she dropped our drinks & left before we could get our order in. When she returned for our order we asked for suggestions to "newbies" and she didn't seem too enthusiastic in her recommendations.
We started with the; Bangkok Boar & Thai Chicken Satay. Both where tasty and with only a couple of pieces, the perfect start to our evening. For our entree, we decided to split Pad Thai with chicken. The spice level was to our liking and the portion was great for splitting.
Overall, the service was not great, but the food made up for it. Not the best Thai we'd had, but still pretty good. -
Review from Jeff S.
Seattle, WA
The food here is very well done - particularly the fragrant duck (a house specialty), spicy green beans, and fresh tuna bruschetta. The space is large and open so it can get somewhat loud as its popularity makes open tables scarce during peak hours without a reservation. But it earns its five stars on the wine list.
Regarded as one of the best wine lists on the west coast, they offer a number of California Turley Zinfandels that can be hard to come by. The restaurant has managed to get onto their buyers list! Anyway, their Napa Turley's are excellent and pair extremely well the the rich food on offer.
It's a bit spendy but worth it. Excellent asian fusion combined with a phenomenal wine list have made for consistently great dining experiences over the many years I've been coming here. -

Came by this place as a recommendation from a local while in Seattle on business. I really enjoyed everything about this restaurant. I used open table to get a reservation and it worked out great because people were waiting outside when I got there. I would definitely come back when I am in Seattle again.

Went a few Fridays back and had a great time trying lots of new food wife my wife. We ordered peasants chicken and thai chicken satay, enjoying the thai chicken more. Our favorite part was the wild ginger duck, delicious! We also enjoyed the seven flavored beef as well.
We were impressed with the fact that we did not need to wait on a friday at 6pm and sat at the satay bar. We did not have all that much room and were impressed with the machine that is the 100's of people working the various stations at this restaraunt.
The food was great, service was helpful but you do not get a lot of privacy here, at least on a Friday evening. -

I went to WIld Ginger with a group of friends on a Friday night. We had drinks at the bar while waiting for the table. The house cocktail specials were a little bit of a let down for the price. The waitstaff was decent enough, as well as, the food. That is to say, nothing special for the price. I was satisfied with the evening, but in the end felt I paid too much for what I got.

Open the door, and get hit by the delicious smell. The food lived up to that smell. Yes, it's "fusion," but it's good. I no longer remember which satays we tried, but they were a good beginning. My clams were fresh, tasting both of spices and the sea. If I remember correctly, my wife chose a gluten-free curry that also was quite clean-tasting. Poor curries end up muddled, but this was bright.
Our excellent server helped with selecting gluten-free items, and there was no shortage of choices. Or of food. The smaller portions were more than enough for us; we left quite stuffed. Decor's kinda bland, but we were too busy with the food to notice much. -
Review from Brad R.
More like Mild Ginger. We tried everything from the lamb chops, pad thai, ahi, chicken curry, to the brown rice and to be honest I felt robbed. I've had better food from a take-out thai restaurant and for 1/6th the price. For 2 people we paid $180 which included a bottle of wine but for that price I'd expect exceptional service and food to die for. Not the case here.
The only reason I gave them 2 stars was because of the descent wine menu. Fairly deep but not strong enough to carry the mediocre food. -

We went on a Monday evening. Even on a Monday, the place was pretty busy. We were seated quickly and the service was very speedy and the servers were very attentive. We ordered a couple of beers and three dishes to share and was served very very quickly. Beyond the service, the food was very average for Asian food and very expensive for what it was. Two people, two dishes (one large/one small), plus a noodle dish, two beers and it was over $100 with tax and tip. Its okay if you are on expense account, but no so much otherwise.

I traveled to Seattle for business and was taken to Wild Ginger. It was a Thursday night and every bar and restaurant we passed seemed empty. This is why I was so suprised to see this place packed and with a wait when we arrived. We had a reservation but we were early and they sent us to the bar to wait. The drinks were super strong. When we got around to dinner we were all impressed with our food and loved our great waitor. I wish I knew his name. He was a very tall, older man with a deep voice that sounded like he should be on the radio or something. Anyway he was knowledgable of the menu and made some great suggestions. Everything we ordered was wonderful. I was lucky to be with a group that liked to share so we orderd a few things and passed them around.

Many people say many nice things about Wild Ginger, as it has been a mainstay restaurant in Seattle for a long, long time. But when we were looking for a location for a wedding rehearsal dinner, I wasn't sure whether Wild Ginger would be a good choice: is the food too exotic for our guests? Do they really have space for a wedding rehearsal?
As it turns out, Wild Ginger was the perfect place. We linked together two of the upstairs mezzanine rooms and had a long table for about 25 of us for dinner. They let us customize the menu and wine selections extensively. And they had options for table decorations, cocktails and desserts which made me feel very comfortable that our guests would be relaxed and able to enjoy the evening.
At our dinner we wound up just circling the table to practice the walk-in, ceremony, and walk-out. It worked out perfectly, and the informal nature of it (with cocktails) helped keep everyone in good spirits. We also had three kids in the room who were running around a little crazy and keeping everyone laughing and having a good time. The dinner itself was a huge success, with both simple dishes (szechuan beans, rainbow noodles) and complex ones (fragrant duck, coconut salmon). It was quite a feast.
Enough cannot be said about our waiter, who was ABSOLUTELY fantastic. (I believe his name was Eddie, I'm embarrassed to say that a few weeks later I'm not altogether certain.) He was hilarious and very engaging: he told jokes, he poked fun, he made us all feel so so welcome. Our big dinner, which could have been formal and stuffy, wound up casual, relaxing, and great fun. I feel so lucky that he was there.
My many thanks to the folks at Wild Ginger, from those who helped us set our reservation and menu, to the people at the front desk, to our head waiter. Wild Ginger is a real class act, and it's no wonder it has been so prominent in Seattle for so long - with great food and great people, how can you go wrong. -

If you have out of town visitors and can't get a reservation at the space needle, it will do. The one in Bellevue is worse than the one downtown, but isn't that always the case? There is better thai food anywhere and friendlier staff at Mae Phim.

I stumbled upon this restaurant looking for a place to have dinner while walking downtown Seattle. When I entered I felt a little self-conscious for being a little underdressed, but when seated I started to relax given the dimly lit place made it difficult for the suits to notice my casual t-shirt, jeans, and low-top converse.
The service was great and the menu selection made it hard to choose because I wanted it all. Needless to say, every dish what we ordered was heavenly. I would definitely go again. I suggest this place to everyone I know. -

Really really enjoyed this for lunch. A very nice, quality pan-asian place. Went here on a visit to Seattle. Got the pan-fried chicken dumplings (seriously good) and a viet-thai pork on a stick app. Excellent. If I went back, I would order more off the app menu which really looked like it set itself apart.
Aside from that, had a duck with a bun dish (really fresh) and a mongolian noodle dish that was just ok. Service was very attentive and its a nice atmosphere despite its large size.
Overall, very satisfied here and would come back anytime. -

I go to Wild Ginger on a fairly regular basis, since it's just down the street from the office. Since it's so close, our 2011 Holiday Lunch was hosted here. Wild Ginger routinely provides excellent service, but this time it took 45 minutes to get our food. The server was not very apologetic and did not offer much of an explanation, except that we were a larger party. Nevertheless, the food was delicious as always, and even super slow service can't keep me away.

The place is attractive and the servers are nice, but the food (at least for vegetarians) is terrible. The menu looks great, but the chefs there just have no sense when it comes to flavor and texture. I tried this place twice (and tried several things off the menu each time), and there were several things I ordered that I couldn't eat because they tasted so disgusting or had such an awful mouth-feel (e.g., the soup with sweet potato).
