6 reviews for Wicked Rack BBQ
Wicked Rack isn't new to Everett. He used to be in the Frontier Village area until they kicked him out to build a Walgreens there. We miss him here, but I'm glad to know where he went!
His food is awesome and it was great to be able to get something different from the usual fast food fare we have available here.
It will be worth the drive to visit him, and it sounds like he's expanded his menu quite a bit. It's great to hear he's doing so well.
Anyway, I thought it might be useful to know it's not really a new business, just a re-located business. It used to be in something like an espresso stand, that was drive through only. Can't wait to visit the new place!
Edit 7/19/09: We had lunch here today. The food was awesome! Everybody was friendly. The owner showed us where the new expansion is going to be. It sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun. He's going to have a full bar, but it will still be family friendly. He wants to have theme nights - the only one I can remember is pajama which sounds fun. But they will have to be family friendly pajamas! There will be karaoke and I think he said Guitar Hero. He said he's expecting to have the expansion open next week.
Wednesdays he already has live music and all-you-can-eat ribs.
He doesn't have a sign yet, so you have to look for the BBQ banner or his Wicked Rack car. You can't miss the car!
For those of you that care about such things, you can get sweet tea and okra.
My husband (who is from the south) said the catfish was excellent and much better than Alligator Soul's. I had the brisket and was only able to eat about 1/3 of it. The portion was huge!
The location isn't the best, but go... you won't be sorry.
OK, so...this week's Yelp newsletter was called, "Yelp Smokes the Meat!". Since it was about BBQ places around town, it immediately put me in the mood for some great BBQ. After reading the reviews for downtown, I checked my Yelp file for something closer to me - and found out about the Wicked Rack.
It is right on the other side of Outback Steakhouse off 99 (near Everett Mall Way intersection), and as soon as I saw the menu, I knew they had the 'right stuff'. The thing was, there was no one at the counter! After a bit of waiting, I decided to head to the back, and came upon the owner, who apologised and immediately came out. He's an easy-going guy, and was prompt in getting me my order - pulled pork sandwich with a side (I chose the Hush Puppies). He asks 'sweet or spicey' for the sauce (I picked spicey), and I quickly settled in for a wonderful lunch. The pork was tender, the sauce just great - made my balding head perspire greatly, which is a sure sign - and the Puppies were served with a nice tangy sauce - all delicious!
I then started to ask him about the place, and it turns out he has live music (blues) every Wed. night, along with an all-you-can-eat special (I think it was around $12.95 per person). Not only that, but things have gone so well in the 8 months since he opened that he has been able to expand twice - with the second expansion happening within the next week or so. The place next door will become part of Wicked Rack's expansion, and they are going to have a regular stage put in, with music and Comedy Nights on a weekly basis.
He's got ambitious plans, but I think he's on his way to a very successful venture. You won't be disappointed! (Better food than Famous Dave's down the way, and less pricey!)
I came to Everett about a year ago from south Carolina and had been looking for a great place to eat, and I recently found it in the Wicked Rack BBQ. Coming from the south I know great BBQ and this place is second to none. they have a great menu selection with everything from fried okra, to deep fried mac n cheese, and you can even have your sandwich served Carolina style(which has coleslaw served on top of the sandwich) I couldn't be happier with the service. The owner James is down to earth and you can just see the passion he has for this place in his eyes. He couldn't be any more of a nice person. The price of the food is fair, but the portions are enormous. You have to go there for Wednesdays when they have a live band and all you can eat ribs!! I recommend anyone who wants down home great BBQ to visit the Wicked Rack. Otherwise your just a yuppie visiting Famous Daves the other so called BBQ restaurant
My husband and I noticed this new BBQ joint right down the road from our apartment so we decided to check it out. It's got a fair amount of seating, the menu is nicely varied. The owner is very friendly and interacts with the customers. The prices aren't really cheap but the food is great. I love their potato salad and their cornbread is slightly unusual but moist and really tasty.
I had the pulled pork and smoked chicken and my husband had the ribs and smoked chicken. Very good, the sweet BBQ sauce is devine.
This place is new but it has great potential, we'll be sure to go back again!
food= 4 stars
service=4 stars
atmosphere=3 stars
cleanliness=4 stars....its deceiving though as the location looks like a work in progress
menu selection=5 stars
at first glance this bbq joint looks like a dive as its in a strip mall, the interior is worn, but the saving grace is the yummy BBQ. there is so many great items to choose from and surprisingly southern favorites like fried okra and fried mac and cheese! i was very impressed to see these artery clogging morsels on the menu
when i visited Wicked Rack there was just one lady running the whole show and she was busting ass and taking names and getting the food out fast! i was happy with the heat, the taste, the texture on the chicken wings was excellent (Deep fried).... the price is very generous and to top it all off the lady working the place came over and asked how the food was and my party smiled with bbq sauce smothered on our faces with gleeeeee :)
This is a gem in a otherwise boring BBQ location of Everett, wa..... If you like BBQ and want to try a new place, then give wicked rack a try....i believe you will not be disappointed....
food ordered:
chicken wings...spicy
pulled pork sandwich
fried okra
sweet potato fries
additions:
i overheard delivery service is in the works and will be available shortly
Absolutely Delicious... love the sandwiches and the sweet sauce.
