AWESOME!!!  Definitely try the macaroni and cheese, so so so good! Some of the menu items are a little bit spendy, but it is definitely worth the price. Also try the sweet tea.a good place to take your parents (if you are a college student or just live in the area) and also whoopemup has a great wine selection. All in all a hit!

This is a quaint little cafe with a lot of style and great food.  The lone waiter in this establishment managed to provide excellent service to about six tables and still have time to chat.

Of all the things to drive 40 minutes for .... Macaroni and cheese... it was the best I have ever had!  Topped with bits of fried cheese... not the healthiest, but definitely tops on the macaroni category.

Finished off dinner with a pecan tart that was a piece of art when it came to our table.  Delicious and elegantly presented!

I definitely plan to come back when it warms up and walk around the little town before heading off to another great meal at Whoopemup!

Outstanding in every way. Best Cajun food in the state. Don't miss the wonderful cocktail bar directly across the street for a before dinner cocktail. This is one of the the owner/operator establishments taking classic american cuisine and turning it into great dining. A relaxed not stuffy fun wine country destination you don't have to dress up for. Jambalaya and Gumbo are outstanding.  The wedge salad is wonderful.  The fish cakes are a great starter and loaded with seafood and a minimum of binders.

Not sure what all the fuss is about, but for my husband and I it was definitely not worth the 25 minute drive to Waitsburg for uninspired food that didn't have a focus on local and organic ingredients as pretty much every restaurant in Walla Wall does.  Neither of our dishes were particularly tasty, from the jambalaya to the macaroni and cheese - we both left unsatisfied and hungry and ended up stopping off at Whitehouse Crawford for a post dinner snack.  Service was wonderful, our waitress was warm and friendly as was sitting outside in their patio area.

Definitely worth the trip for anyone within a 200-mile radius (hire a comfy limo, bring your friends, enjoy great food, service, ambience, wine). My Rating Summary: Service 5/5; Food 4.5/5; Wine 5/5; Overall 5/5.

A visit to my friend in Walla Walla (my first trip here) turned up 2 Great Food Finds (see also Onion World) ... WhoopEmUp is a delightful surprise waiting at the Waitsburg end of a 20-mile trip from Walla Walla.

We had an excellent meal with excellent service. I like Southern and Cajun-style food and have eaten it often enough in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee to think I am a fairly good judge of authenticity and quality. Whoopemup has the Best Red Beans and Rice ever! And is a very strong contender for Best Gumbo, too! The Frog Legs were tops! The Catfish was elegant! Service was terrific, knowledgable but unpretentious.

    I vow to return someday...

The WHC is awesome. If you haven't been to Waitsburg, you're missing out. If you plan to visit, make sure you include the WHC for lunch or dinner. Deliclious Southern comfort foot served in big portions. Yummy macaroni and cheese, cornbread hushpuppies, fried catfish, jumbalaya, daily pork specials, etc. Desserts are yummy classics like coca-cola cake and pecan tart. Prices are a bit high but the portions are huge. It's a great place for large groups, with outdoor seating in the summer time. Nice selection of local wines too.

Whoopemup is just one of my favorite places.  Made a stop in here strictly for dessert.  Didn't have a reservation or nothing & sure enough it was packed & loud in here with lots of happy customers.  My friend and I saddled up to the bar, and went for the dessert menu (it's probably been mentioned before, but their dessert is just as good as their meals & that's saying alot.  I believe I heard that the dessert chef was trained in France).

I've had many different desserts, and this visit I went for something new:  Big Sylvia's Carrot Cake (with mascarpone ice cream and caramelized pineapple).  Its presentation was perfection & the flavors were varied and top notch.  I've not had a bad anything here, I'm tellin' ya!

I should also say, I really like the servers as well.  They're funny and super nice.

Fabulous food, atmosphere & service... the GUMBO is addicting...they even make a simple wedge salad outstanding... even if you aren't a "dessert" person you are crazy to skip out on trying something.... Whoopemup is worth the drive from anywhere.....

My 84 year-old dining mate and I stopped by at the 3 pm opening time. The patio is great but it was high 80's today, so inside for the A/C thank you.

I like the place-- comfortable booths, low jazz, clean bathrooms, friendly service and good food. You gotta like that!

I started with a cup of gumbo-- *very* tasty. My dining mate had a salad, of which he is never a fan, but it was a very colorful fresh presentation. A basket (bucket or pail? LOL) of corn muffins and whipped butter and honey came three ways-- a couple each shapes of ear of corn, muffin and pan squares.

I talked my dining partner into trying the Fried Chicken (it was off menu-- but it was posted in Facebook) and I had the Mac n Cheese. He enjoyed the half chicken (there was enough to take some home), garlic mash taters, grilled corn on cob and a couple buttermilk biscuits. My Mac n Cheese was a perfect vehicle for the delivery of some Tabasco Habanero sauce.

Overall, a lot of pluses. And plenty of other tasty treats to try next time.

Now, if someone would let me know if they ever have Boudin blanc on the menu!!!  I'd be in for some "Breakfast for Dinner" of Boudin, poached eggs and toast!!!

And yet you give this place only FOUR stars?  What???

Five stars for the Whoopemup and nothing less. The service could not be more friendly yet refined and informative. The food is truly divine. On my first visit, I was amazed by the mushroom soup, seafood etouffee and cornbread. By my second visit I am now truly at a loss for words. The mac and cheese is unprecedented. The rice and beans - oops, it's got pork, but I ate it anyways - and the chocolate pecan bourbon pie were scrumptious. The spinach salad with the most delightful deviled eggs and pan-fried oysters was so beautifully presented I didn't know if I should eat it, or take it home and hang it on my wall. And those pan fried oysters were perfect, by the way. The wine selection was a bit bare, but that's because it's winter and they have to scale down for the off season. They are more than happy to open the bottle of your choice if you chose to bring along your own vino.

I'll be back. It's only twenty minutes from Walla Walla. And I'm bringing everyone I know. Can't wait for Spring so I can dine out on the patio!

HINT:  Yes, it's Cajun style cooking, but if you want it as spicy as real Cajun food, you'll have to let your server know when you order. They go easy on the spice - to appease the crowd - and instead drop an assorted basket of killer hot sauces at your table so you may adjust the fire to your liking.

One of my favorite places on the planet! Catfish Po' Boy, Cajun Burger, Pig of the Day, and the best Mac and Cheese this side of the Mississippi. Too many great things to mention. We always go with friends so we can try several dishes. The desserts are works of art; a banana split that Corbusier would be proud of.

We ate early Saturday night (about 6 pm) with our 5 yo son and it wasn't busy then, so that was nice.  Food was good and they have a kids' menu.  Husband loved the cornbread and they let us take some extra home.  Server was a little snotty, but it was good and I'll go back.

One of my favorite stops during our Walla Walla trip. I swear about ten people we ran into throughout town (wine bar, hotel, wineries, etc.) told us to go to the Whoopemup in Waitsburg, WA. At first we paid no mind but after about the fifth person, we just had to get out to Waitsburg and try it. Many thanks to Wendy from Va Piano wineries for calling in our reservation for us while we were tasting the day before:)

Driving from Walla Walla to Waitsburg really makes you think you are in the south. Having only been to a few southern states perhaps I have no idea what I'm talking about, but when you say you are going to the Whoopemup in Waitsburg, you definitely feel like you are going to Louisiana or Alabama or someplace similar. I think it helps that you drive through a charming little town called Dixie along the way.

Once at the Whoopemup we were greeted by one of the owners who was just about the most gracious host I have ever met. What a memorable guy! We started our meal with fried frog's legs and some hush puppies. I was not a fan of the frog's legs but my husband enjoyed them. They weren't terrible, just too chewy for me, but it was my first time having frog:) The hush puppies were very good, but I did think they could have been seasoned a bit more. For entrees, Isaak had the smoked trout salad, while I had the blackened salmon special with a cup of gumbo. Yum, yum, and more yum. The salmon came with seasoned rice and a bean and mango salad, plus some tomatillo sauce. The gumbo was very good with a small scoop of basmati rice placed on top. Smokey and delicious, but not too spicy. For dessert we had the Moon Pie: homemade marshmallow sandwiched between a graham cracker cake and dark chocolate with a caramel-y crispy cracker. AWESOME!

If you go to Walla Walla, make sure to take a little side trip to Waitsburg to try out this gem of a restaurant!

Giving the Whoopemup 5 stars is a no brainer.

From the super friendly, attentive staff to the fantastic food this place has it all.  The servers are not only very friendly, they're also very knowledgeable about the food they're serving and happy to answer questions.

We've visited a couple of times and plan to go many more. Everything that we've tried has been spectacular and the service is great each and every time.  If you enjoy great food and service this place is worth the drive.  If you're passing through you certainly shouldn't miss a chance to dine here. Make reservations to be sure of getting in. The word seems to be spreading and it can get very busy.

I'd been wanting to try this place for a while.  Went on a Saturday night and it was a full house.  The food was ok, good, but not great.  I ordered the cider to drink -- it came in a small champagne glass and was flat, I mean hardly any bubbles at all!  The waiter said they were running out so I wondered if they were doing some portion control by using a smaller glass and maybe the bottle had been open for a while.

I had the butternut squash ravioli, and the macaroni and cheese.  The ravioli was a bit too sweet, but still tasty.  The macaroni was just pasta in a rich cream sauce, not really what I was expecting, and I've had much better macaroni at other restaurants.

The staff was very friendly, though, and they were good about accommodating a large group.

If I'm ever in Waitsburg I'd probably stop by again, but won't go out of my way to eat here again.

So how does a place like this really make it?  Situated as it is in the middle of wheat farming country, 30 miles or so out of Walla Walla, which, excuse me, is not exactly the metropolis of the world, why 1) would such talented restraunteurs settle here, and 2) why would any local pay big city prices way out here?  Answer seems to be in the ambience, the exquisite food, and the knowledge that even in the most remote places one can chance upon a real gem, as this is.  Service was outstanding, the food even better.  My only regret is that I didn't save room for dessert, the descriptions of which were totally alluring.  A definite must if you ever find yourself hungry in God's country.

Having dined at a variety of Walla Walla restaurants, I am starting to venture out into the valley to discover new places to enjoy a local meal. The Whoopemup Hollow Cafe in Waitsburg did not disappoint. The restaurant is located in a great little town about 30 minutes northeast of Walla Walla. The place has a warm atmosphere and a good vibe to it. Being from the South, I felt at home here, with the various references to down home cookin'. When presented with a menu, my choice was easy: baby back ribs. These were literally finger-lickin' good. And when combined with a local Walla Walla Valley syrah, I thought I had died and gone to heaven.

My husband & I love this place! Busy weekend, but worth the wait. The Rib-Eye steak was awesome. Also had the Seafood Etouffee was great as well, would have like a little bit bigger portion. Nice wine list for the local wineries, but they also offered a couple of great spanish wines. We will definitely go back on our next visit.
