I don't care what others say. I love food. I love shopping for food. I know good quality. As much as I want to love Stanley's, they are inconsistent with their produce...last week I had to sift through bins of moldy garlic just to get a decent head.
This whole paycheck is wonderful. Everyone is extremely helpful without being intrusive. The guys at the fish counter always have suggestions on how to cook things, the guys in the meat department offer dinner options and my man Briscoe even went and found me some large bones of a cow and cut them up for my pittie to enjoy for his dinner. The other butcher knows exactly how to cook things and the best seasonings. The head Cheese Man is spectacular. I went in today complaining that a couple of the packages of fresh mozzarella I bought the week before were a little off and he took two more, wrote no charge on them and handed them to me. He offers anecdotes about different types of cheeses and the famous people who dined on them.
Produce department - excellent. I travel around to produce stores...and I mean, our vacation last year involved renting a cottage and then mapping out all of the local farmer's markets for our daily shopping. Way back when it was said that my Greek family members used to have a produce store, so it's in my blood. Again, I do go to Stanley's but sometimes you are going to get a container of strawberries and find out the ones in the middle are moldy. Or the cucumbers are all soft. What I typically do if I am not in the mood to travel to Produce World up in Morton Grove or it's not summer time when the organic veggie shares kick in, is to go to Stanleys to get whatever looks good and then go to Whole Foods for whatever didn't make the mark at Stanley's. That way I'm not duplicating items and am only paying the premium for a far superior product.
My only quibble is there are a couple aloof pretty boy hippie types who work there and a couple of weeks ago my cart tipped over and blackberries went everywhere. One of the pretty hippie boys walked past me trying to pick them up. I think he even squished one as he went by. But, that's been the only negative.
Oh, and the coffee beans!! We roast our own green coffee, but when we can't find the time to do so, it's just as good to get it from WF. They have bulk bins with the dates the beans were roasted. Smells so good I want to brew some up now.
And Malaka Pambo - I haven't had any plastic surgery done, and the cat food was only $2 a can. Sorry if my cart was in your way. I usually move it as soon as I see someone if I think it's even possibly blocking them. But, it happens. And not just here, but at every frickin store you go to. And, it's not that hard to be shut down in the city. There's a reason rats are called "city bunnies." Not that I want rat and mouse poop in my food, but, it's part of having a business with food. Again, it happens.
Since I base a lot of my shopping on proximity and price, Whole Foods fails on both counts - however, the three stars they did get are for obscure ingredients I have a hard time finding other places (golden beets, anyone?), cleanliness and very friendly staff... even if they are hippies.
Oh and they have the most amazing pretzel and ciabatta rolls for $.99 each. Which again, is expensive, but whatever they're delicious.
I stopped in here to pick up some treats for a work meeting. I've been in a lot of Whole Foods stores, but I had never been in this one.
Store Layout = Wack. I'm used to entering into beautifully displayed produce. It took forever to find the things I needed. I felt like nothing was merchandised where it logically should have been.
1 Star for the delicious cheese I bought.
1 Star for the yummy chocolate chip cookies.
1 Star for the checkout lady who knew exactly what to do with my tax exempt certificate.
* I have heard a rumor that this store will be moving a bit South. Closing a few nightclubs along the way to make way for a bigger, more logically merchandised Whole Foods store.*
Ra ra whole foods!! ra ra whole foods!!!!!
i will love whole foods eternally, even if they are pricey. They have the greatest vegetarian section, complete with several different kinds of seitan, tofus, and deli "meats."
Be sure to try the ROMAN tuna salad from the deli. Something that irks me about tuna salads a lot of the time, is the amount of mayo restaurants or delis tend to put in. Well, not at whole foods. The roman tuna salad is packed with kalamata olives, artichokes and fresh tuna, light on the mayo.
And though I don't buy the sweets from the bakery for myself (I do personal shopping for someone a lot), he LOVES the fruit tortes and cheesecake slices I pick out.
Yaaaaay whole foods!
So I know they closed this Whole Foods for having mouse poopies but I still come here on occasion if I'm in the hood or need a fix (I just stay away from the raisins in the salad bar).
They have great prepared soups and salads plus hard to find natural, low-fat items. My favorite thing from here? Those super sour pickles in the olive bar - sweet beejeebus, those things are good. When I do visit, I MUST cram those little guys into the largest available carton!
I don't actually know what a yak smells like... however I imagine yaks smell exactly like Whole Foods.
Now I'm well aware that this branch was forced to temporarily close due to rodent infestation http://www.chicagotrib...
but even the non-poopy Whole Foods smell like this. I was once given a t-shirt from Whole Foods and I had to wash it twice before wearing it because I was told I smelled "like a vegan fart."
I'm not really that alarmed by the temporary closing. I have a Chinchilla so I think ridiculous amounts of small, hard, odorless poopies are just a part of life. But I won't be having any dinner soirees anytime soon, if you're wondering.
Yeah yeah, Whole Foods will fugg you in da a$$ when it comes to prices but first they'll give you a little reach around action to soften the blow(s). This is the only place I come for "les fruits de mer" anymore. One can even buy sushi grade fish here. I have a very delicate tummy and I know my bowels are in good hands when it comes to their product.
If you've ever braved the Mother of all Clusterfucks that is the North and Clybourn area you know to expect a shopping experience that involves crashing into other people's carts, waiting a good 10 minutes for counter service and generally attempting to navigate your way through a sea of disgruntled yuppies. Yeah...why the hell does everyone look so upset at this Whole Foods? Be happy! You have enough money to do your weekly shopping here. I myself have never made it past the Express Lane. Ah well.
Unfortunately Whole Foods is losing my business because of the following. Apparently they have had multiple issues with mice and ignored them. Then they are closed. Then they ask the Inspectors to come back and they still fail. Terrible business.
From Crain's... 7/10/2008
An inspection by the Chicago Department of Public Health found mouse feces throughout the store at 1000 W. North Ave., according to a statement from the city agency. Inspectors also found "more than 100 droppings" in one walk-in cooler and a dead mouse stuck to a trap.
A spokeswoman for the Austin, Texas-based grocery chain said the store could be open Friday following a city reinspection, and that the company has been working closely with the Public Health Department to correction the situation.
"Whole Foods Market has the highest quality standards in the industry and we are doing everything to uphold those standards," she said.
It was the second time in recent weeks that the Public Health Department visited the Lincoln Park store. Whole Foods was first told to address the issue after an inspection on June 27, but the problem had not been fixed by Wednesday, a Public Health Department spokesman said.

From Crain's... 7/11/2008
The Whole Foods Market in Lincoln Park remained closed Friday after failing once again to satisfy Chicago's health code.
Chicago's Department of Public Health said in a statement that it continued to find evidence of a mouse infestation. The city reinspected the store at 1000 W. North Ave. on Friday after shutting it down earlier this week.
"After reassessing our situation, it was determined that additional areas within the store need to be further worked on in order to meet the city's standards," said a spokeswoman for the Austin, Texas-based grocery chain. "This includes moving permanent fixtures."
She said she was unable to estimate when the store might reopen.
Friday's visit uncovered "numerous" mouse droppings and a dead mouse under a display cooler, the health department said in a statement.
"Mouse droppings also were found behind and around food service equipment," the statement said.
The Lincoln Park store was closed Wednesday after the health department found "more than 100 droppings" in one walk-in cooler and a dead mouse stuck to a trap. That visit was a followup to an original inspection June 27 in which the presence of mice had first been detected.

Went to buy a salad today and found out Whole Foods was closed due to a problem with mice. I give them 2 stars because they handed out a $5 coupon to come back when they re-open. Hmmm...let me think about that...NO. I'll go to Trader Joe's. They have cuter mice.
And by the way, only a $500 fine for having mice? Doesn't that seem a bit light for endangering the public?
I love Whole Foods. I don't love it for it's organic or chemically free foods. I love it for their pre-made meals, cause honestly, after working 10 hours the last thing I want to do is cook for myself. Add in some more non-organic and chemicals and I'd be happier. I know call me crazy, but free-range chicken just isn't for me.
Also, I wish Whole Foods would be more cookie-cutter when it came to their layouts. I've been to 3 different Whole Foods and not a single one is the same. I never know if I passed something or if the store is just zigzagging and I have yet to come upon my item.
I don't know when I'll learn my lesson about Whole Foods. I usually only go here when I need one or two things and I happen to be in the neighborhood. Every time I go in there I wind up spending 14 times what I planned, and about 7500 times what I would spend anywhere else. This is mostly my fault; I'm the worst kind of impulse buyer and am very tempted by free samples. However. . .
There is no reason for Whole Foods to be as expensive as they are. Trader Joe's is much more affordable, as was my beloved (but departed ) Sunflower, who delivered not only organic, but LOCAL produce. My biggest complaint about this Whole Foods is the salad bar. Now, as I have stated in other reviews, I love me some salad bars. This one is pricey- $8 a pound- and while the selection appears to be fresh and plentiful, everything tastes like it was doused in sugar. I'm guessing there's some kind of something added as a preservative, and that rubs me the wrong way. As I write this, a 1/2 pound of salad sits next to me, uneaten, because it tastes like crunchy simple syrup. And that is not what salad should taste like.
"Whole Paycheck" lives up to its name. I go here only for certain items I can't easily get elsewhere:
- Field Roast vegan sausages
- Follow Your Heart vegan "cheese"
- San-J wheat-free tamari (which I can get at some large chains, but not near my work)
- a slice of vegan cake
For everything else, there's a better/cheaper option within walking distance.
- Fresh produce: Stanley's
- Herbs and spices: Stanley's
- Vegan and earth-friendly products: Trader Joe's
- Specialty and gourmet foods: Trader Joe's
- Nuts and dried fruits : Trader Joe's
- Wine/beer: Sam's Wines and Spirits
- Food to go: (your choice of local restaurant)
Listing this place to go for the occasional indulgence.
The staff were mostly yuppies and were all a little snooty but generally okay I guess.
The choice was well rounded and oh so tempting until I checked the price.
The bakery section, the cake/pastry selection especially, looked tasty and (if cakes could talk) would scream out 'eat me'.
The store had a strange odour to it but the coffee section was a sweet haven.
Overall it was great!...except for the staff and the prices.
But even those factors couldn't keep me away for very long
AWEsome beer guy. Recommended some holiday beer (Krampus- good story behind the name a good hoppy taste) and pointed out the best Cider I've ever tasted for a gluten-free good time. Very helpful.
I didn't remember until AFTER I came outta the store with sushi and a thai salad, that THIS was the whole foods that was closed. Whatever. I'm still alive.
I rarely do Whole Foods, if i'm in the area or seeking out a specialty item, i'll go there but for regular weekly shopping, too expensive.
I didn't get any of the 'bad smells' or other issues people have about this location, although I know the parking can be a total hassle.
They have a great hot food bar but it is still a food buffet/bar, so you're gonna have some inherent germaphobe issues no matter what. I picked up some Butternut Squash soup which was really really good, plus some greens and a half baguette which was also great.
Not as expensive on some items as I remembered (or maybe everyone else has just raised their prices). Now that I have special dietary needs, I really appreciate their selection. Yes, some items (such as the produce) are too expensive for me to shop for here, but I will definitely drop in more often for items I can't find other places and to get something out of the ordinary.

First off, I like this place because I am en environmentalist and like to buy earth-friendly… Read more »
I'll pass. I hate the North & Clybourn area to begin with, and I get really irritable when I have to shove my way through hordes of cranky people to buy a few random things.
Trader Joe's is friendlier, less crowded, and hella cheaper. It also has comparable organic, vegetarian/vegan, and gluten-free products, as well as some kick-ass hummus.
I have nothing against a retailer making a buck, after all they buy the stuff in the hopes it will sell. What bugs me about this place is that everytime I go in there its for a special need-like emergency and I need it now...and there is no sense of urgency nor simplicity. I don't need to hear about the horror of bovine growth hormone, I just want you to sell me a steak, hopefully from a cow and be done with it. I don't want to hear about the painstaking cultivation process of the organic growing process of the tomato I need. Just let me pay you way too much for it and be gone. I can't fault the store for the parking because its a shared lot and I go at weird times so no biggie.
But granola mommies in their hemp get ups clogging the aisle and the snoopy people wondering why I am buying 18 lbs of anything, quite frankly irritate me. Their inventory is decent but really not all that. One time when my friend convinced me to detox with wheat grass it was a comedy of errors with a twenty minute wait to buy something that made me, um queasy, and then I had to listen to the righteous pontification of the Grassista (?) about the healing properties, blah, blah, blah, blah....really? I just think Whole Foods is a Whole Lotta Blah. I like Stanley's down the street because they are so much better with their prices and their staff always neglects to enlighten me. Yeah for them!
What I like about Whole Foods:
- organic and natural foods and products
- good produce (I am from Oregon, which means I grew up with beautiful, ripe, fresh, delicious produce; therefore I am really picky about my produce. Whole Foods is the only place I'll buy it.)
- their cheese (Nothin' special, just the WF brand. I like the cheddar.)
- their beer selection (Oh man, I love beer. I like that they stock a good, and changing, selection of Rogue beers. Oregon!)
- the meat counter (The chunks of stewing beef are really good for my curry.)
- friendly service (I always strike up random conversations with the checkers, and there's usually a dude in the beer isle to ask if I'm finding everything all right.)
What I don't like about Whole Foods:
- the store is too small, but I can't really complain about that, because I know they're working on a new, huge one.
- when people complain that it's expensive. Yes, it is more expensive than Jewel and Dominick's. That is because the quality is generally much higher and the food is better for you. I prefer to pay a little more now and stay healthy, than save some cash now, but pay a lot more later when I have cancer, diabetes, or heart disease.
This Whole Foods had no goat cheese. NO GOAT CHEESE? They're lucky I didn't go ballistic and start throwing wedges of organic parmesan around.
No parking, a small selection, and high prices? And NO GOAT CHEESE? I will never be back.
How can you have a dead mouse on a glue trap when the health inspectors arrive?
It shows such massive management detachment that I can't bear shopping here anymore and it makes me nauseous to think I bought produce and meat at this location. And to think, I was paying a premium for what I thought was higher quality. The joke is on me.
Apparently, I wrote my initial review on this Whole Foods two days before the rodent problem. If I had only known that Whole Foods had such a substantial mice infestation and that management had failed to address it properly on two occasions, I would have dropped them to one star. But now, I will make up for it.
See ya Whole Foods.

I am a big fan of Whole Foods in general, but this particular store is just not up to the chain's… Read more »
OK, I won't dwell upon the fact that the store has been shut down due to an abundance of dead mice and mouse droppings in the store...
but let me say.. I've told the WF supervisor who was wanting feedback how i felt about their baguettes... I was just there a few days ago and bought two (just before they were shut down this week)....they STILL have the worst baguettes in the city of chicago here. they're squishy, not crunchy crust... they're closer to a bad Italian loaf of bread than a baguette.. someone really should teach them the difference, or they should stop labeling them as baguettes.. or better yet, they should just order them from Red Hen or Bennison's 's like everyone else in this city does...
I don't know if I'd complain a TON about their prices... I think comparitively, Jewel and Dominicks aren't much if any cheaper, and the product at WF is generally better... That said, I wouldn't shop here as my #1 store because I think they all are ripoffs..
Getting in and out of this parking lot is a zoo... ZOO. move over trixies, walk on the sidewalk not in the middle of the driving lane.
I get a call 5:30pm'ish saying when I'm coming over and what I'm cooking for dinner. Yeah I TOTALLY forgot that it was my turn, thanks for last minute reminder. Now I'm rushing to figure out what to cook for my Friday night movie group of 8 people, possibly more.
This grocery store was closest one to my friends house. I don't drive so I knew I couldn't carry so many grocery bags so this was my choice.
Two things I noticed: so many women shopping here, high potential for finding dates. And so many food selections and expensive as other reviews mentioned. I think I paid $175 for 8 steak pieces. I thought to myself I could bought a whole cow with that price somewhere in Montana.
Anyway, I cooked one of my favorite meal: steak, mashed potato with gravy, corn/peas, and salad.
How did it go? I was kind of upset that none of the girls ate steaks. They only munched on salad. They complained all night: "Steak is too big" "Steak is not my thing" , "I don't eat meat" "I'm on a diet", "I just ate".
Whattt... eat your damn salad. I'll just cook rest of steak some other time. I put them in freezer.
I go back in two weeks, steak strips still there, untouched. FINE! Order pizza next time! Geeze... I'm still pissed about that.
Whole Foods North Avenue, I hate you.
I have the same complaints as everyone else. You're too small, the parking blows, far too many trixies and bitchy hyper-organic mommies.
You get stars because you're Whole Foods and the people at the Cheese counter are really nice and helpful.
I thank my lucky stars that the Halsted location is open because I no longer have to deal with you.
Sorry, I do not get it about Whole Foods. It is SO expensive. Yes, the food is good, but seriously, you're going to rack up a totally unnecessary grocery bill. Not to mention, it's a zoo. I went here once to pick up just guacamole for a friends party (which by the way was $8.00 for a tiny container!) and it took me like 45 minutes. The only reason I'm even giving it two stars is because the stores themselves are beautiful and well maintained. You know you're getting quality food there. And the hot bar is pretty cool if you're looking for a quick dinner (basically a bar of hot food, and there's a salad bar) with descriptions of items and you pay by the lb. This is also pricey, but it's kinda nice because they have a big selection of hot foods.
But yeah, I do not understand the Whole Foods craze at all. I guess you just have to be obsessed with organics or something (which I'm not, I appreciate organic food, but I don't think it's worth being annoyed shopping for it)... Yeah, I don't understand. At all. I feel like you can get most things that you get here at Trader Joes, for like about 1/4 of the price. And that's not an exaggeration. And you might actually be able to move in Trader Joes too.
The other day my friend claimed that she saw Common by himself in the parking lot of this Whole Foods. On the corner of Sheffield and North. (Get it? The corner?) Anyway, I was skeptical. First, why would Common be wandering around by himself in the Whole Foods parking lot? Wouldn't he have an entourage? Wouldn't he choose to have his stuff delivered? I know he's from Chicago, but doesn't he live in LA or something?
Fast forward a couple days later and I read in the paper that at a church service on the South side, the preacher, mid sermon, says that he has a surprise for them, and who walks out and starts free styling for close to an hour? Yeah, you know....
Thus, I publicly apologize to my friend in this review for ever doubting her. And my review? Whole Foods on Sheffield--cool enough for Common?
Cool enough for me.
Every time I walk into this location I think "How can people purchase seafood from here after smelling that fishy funk right inside the door?" I mean, seriously, it smells like Red Tide went through the store and caused a fishkill...
All the usual Whole Foods problems here (See my review of the Cicero location) except the freshness of cheese has been less of an issue at this location.
Plus: Beer selection is pretty good by WF standards, seems to be different than the others.
Minus: Store layout is just plain weird. It should be such a small thing, but walking past that odd dairy corridor into the back-room produce department is unsettling. Plus, the produce here has been way too green.
Oh, and if you go shopping in that neighborhood and think you aren't going to drown in a**holes, think again...
"Eh". You've really got to play your cards right with this Whole Foods. Parking is a nightmare, so, only drive during off-hours, and, if it's Sunday afternoon, ride a bike or CTA.
Everybody and everything gives off an "uppity" vibe. For what that's worth....
There are positives, though! The best coffee beans in town, bar-none. They're dated by day-of-roast. Fresh ground almonds! That soup bar! It's got a few things going for it.
I really don't like this Whole Foods. Well I don't like Whole Foods in general b/c it's way too pricey. I know I should probably spend money on healthy + organic foods, but sigh... I really can't. I'd rather go to Trader Joe's!
Anyways, the store is VERY small and cramped. Good thing they have small carts. The store wasn't even that busy but still, it was really annoying.
They also don't have a large selection of soups and a la carte items. I don't want to go back!!!
I Love Whole Foods! The food is great, I love knowing I can find anything in there that's organic and yes for this knowledge I will pay a little more, but honestly I don't spend more the $50 a week when I'm in there on fruit, tofu, soy, bars, etc and the most amazing vegan oatmeal raisin cookies ever! I love the fact I can pick a wide variety of nuts and dried fruits from the "bin" area. I was completely turned off to sushi until I tried their Veggie roll. I'm know the meat is pretty expensive, but I basically eat veggie unless I go out and order meat so I don't have to worry about that.
The staff is amazing and always friendly! And just buy a re-use able able.... they're 99 cents. I always feel good giving the bagger this and knowing I'm not throwing the plastic or paper ones away.
The place is always so clean and you don't have the nasty little fruit flys in the produce section.
I guess I really like the place because there is such a wide variety of Soy products that I was never able to locate at other places.
I admit, I am a whole foods junkie. I grew up with a fresh garden at home, and am very picky about fresh produce. WF, by far, has the best in the city. However, there is a price for the quality!
I generally will not buy packaged food here because of the inflated prices. Avoid coming here on the weekends, as the parking lot becomes very congested... takes forever to get in and out.
Other yelpers have it right. The parking situation blows.
Otherwise, this Whole Foods has the same high prices that cause you to question whether you'd really be worse off eating non-organic food. I mean, the steroids in the beef at Dominick's will help you hit a baseball farther, right?
I went to this Whole Foods with Annie Y. and agree with her review, I do not like this one. It started off badly with the over-crowded parking lot.. The store inside is so cramped and the aisles are so narrow that you can't have 2 way cart traffics passing by. The flow of the store is also not to my liking.. I like to have my pick of produce first, not last, and then have to go back to the check-out lanes. There's also too many ppl at this location, and not a huge selection... they have fewer Kashi and Morningstar Farm selections, for example, and less produce. Their soup selection was weak that I didn't get any. The hot food was limited and boring, and I just couldn't wait to get out of there.
I will never be back unless I have to --- I love the Boystown location 10x better.
I used to go to Dominick's to buy food, but after a while, you're sick with these enriched products... Whole food was a revelation for me : whaou, great food coming from wherever !
In fact I loved WF the first time I came there because I found there a rare bottle of Belgium Beer, Maredsous... This beer is a part of my family life, it means a lot for me. Try it if you want !
I can spend so much time there choosing french cheese or bread... Pricey, but definitly my best food market !
(4 stars is for my poor student budget)
;)
In a word...nectarines. I'm currently addicted and have one every day for a snack. I'm gonna hate when they go out of season. I'll just have to find a new fruit to obsess over. Five stars just for the produce selection. Oh! And bulk spinach. I love the stuff, but can't justify paying for a whole bag that I'll never finish.
There are a million and one reasons why I love Whole Foods. I don't think Yelp will give me enough space to list them all. Suffice to say, I love it.
My roommate says I have an addiction to grocery shopping. It stems from weekend trips with my mom. Whole Foods makes it so easy, and so hard. It's far and away my favorite grocery store. Ever. Jewel, Dominick's, Shop'n'Save, Schnucks ain't got nothin' on Whole Foods. Even Trader Joe's is seriously lacking.
Yeah, this location can be a little hard to manage. I don't have a car, so I don't have to deal with the parking annoyance. I am, however, disappointed that there aren't more bike racks. I'm guessing Whole Foods doesn't own the property, so it's not like it's their fault.
Even though I'm here, like, every other day, I still can't remember what aisle things are in. I kind of like that, though. It's like an adventure, and I've found some interesting items by looking in the wrong place for something.
I love that I get reimbursed for not needing bags. I bike everywhere, so I just throw everything in my Chrome. If it won't fit, I don't need it.
/start liberal rant/
If we all just did the same, think of how nice our world would be. We could fight over bike parking instead of car parking. And we could breathe cleaner air and drink cleaner water. And have seasonal temperatures in the proper seasons. And not buy things we don't need that eventually get thrown away, when children are starving in Africa....and our own neighborhoods.
/end liberal rant/
Oh! and they sell Chicago Diner cakes and cookies and muffins. That totally satisfies my vegan pastry craving.
I kinda hate Whole Foods. The only reason I give them 2 stars instead of 1 is because it's a somewhat decent concept. The follow through, however, blows massively. What I'd like to understand is how that a store like Trader Joe's can manage to sell organic foods for so much cheaper than a much bigger store such as Whole Foods. Maybe its because they like ripping off their customers. Maybe its because they're too yuppie for their own good. The only thing I like about Whole Foods is their massive section of herbal & natural remedies. Even that aspect, however, won't get me in their stores. Produce prices are downright despicable, and even things that I see at Sunflower Market are priced much higher than there. Furthermore, I have a friend who worked there and will testify that they treat their employees rather poorly, which is something they supposedly stand against.
Whole Foods, you can kiss my butt.
ok here's my bitch. when i went last time their produce section and the label says that the item is organic and it's really not, i'm pissed. any organic produce is only organic if the little sticker on the produce STARTS WITH A 9 - - - -. the last time i went there i saw at least four produce bins marked as organic and all of those little stickers started with a 4 - - - or 3 - - -.
pay attention those little stickers if you are buying organic and want to get what you're paying for.
i personally don't like being lied to and/or ripped off.
http://www.boingboing....
I hate this Whole Foods. The parking lot is a friggin nightmare, any time of day or night. They also have rose hip pieces (as opposed to whole rose hips), which is worthless to me.
Great selection of fruits and vegetables, although a bit overpriced.
I love coming to Whole Foods when I'm hungry but don't have much time. They have a great selection of packaged prepared foods (salads, sushi, tamales, etc.) They also have a 'salad' bar that includes so many things that you most grocery salad bars don't offer. If you still can't find anything, they also have heartier portions of ready to eat entrees behind the counter.
This location is great because it has a parking lot and makes it convenient to stop by when you're running your weekend errands; however, I'm not a big fan of their seating area. It's a bit gloomy and unkept. I much prefer the dining area at the location on Huron.
The usual great food and great location for convenience; but, the location is horrible for cars and is always packed. Being the first Whole Foods in Chicago, much has happened since then and the selection here is limited and the store feels very cramped, especially when there are way too many people in here.
The new whole foods opens on Kingsbury soon and will be 80,000 sf, so until then - I will shop at Whole Foods gold coast
I prefer the Whole Foods South Loop to this place, but this place is closer to my apartment and right next door to my favorite coffee shop in the city (Peet's). So I find myself here more often than I would prefer. It might also have to do with my addiction to their salad bar. I like the salad bar at the South Loop Whole Foods better, but I think it is a personal preference, both have fresh vegetables, but they each have some different varietals- maybe produce is better in the South Loop than Lincoln Park? This store is smaller than the South Loop Whole Foods and seams crowded. I know they were closed because if a rodent problem but they are back open and I still go. Is that sick? I just love the damned salad bar and sushi. Help me! My bank account really can't handle this addiction!
