Review from Cat A.
Boston, MA
While living in Seattle and I became addicted to going to La Buona Tavola and DeLaurenti in PIke Market and Metropolitan Market for wine, cheese, and meats. Am I ever glad that Who Cut the Cheese is here.
On my last visit, I sampled some of the meats until I figured out which ones I wanted, I went with the Bresaola and the Serrano. I also ordered a grilled panini with smoked turkey and cheese that melted in my mouth... I left with a bottle of Lehmann wine, which is a Shiraz, Cab, and Merlot blend.. Tasty... but the winner that we got from here was the d'Arenberg Love Grass Shiraz...
Ann, the owner, is friendly and we ended up chatting for a bit, until she reminded me that my panini was getting cold... She mentioned that they have wine pairings on the last Sunday of each month, so that's another thing I'll have to check out. -

My family discovered Who Cut the Cheese a few years ago, and while we're not allowed to call the store by name in front of my sister (she thinks it's gross) we love the place and come in every time we're on the island. She even likes it too! They have a fabulous selection of sheep, goat, and cow cheeses from all over the world, and will be happy to give you a taste of something if you're curious about it. We just got some of their homemade pate today, and I can't wait to cut into it later this afternoon! With all of their cheeses, you tell them exactly how much of it you want and they cut you a slice off the wheel/block - keeps it fresh, and you don't end up with lots of uneaten cheese. Perfect!
They also have a selection of baguette, crackers, wine, jams, oils, and just about any and everything you can think of that goes with all that. I've been told that their sandwiches are delicious, though I've never actually had one.
Service here has always been friendly and helpful. Even when they're busy and the tiny store is swamped with customers, they take their time with you. Why not five stars? I love them, but much of their wines and such seem very overpriced.
We also found out today that they are MOVING at the end of the month (so, in September) to the Wailea Gateway Center and I believe they are changing their name too. Great news for us, as this makes them almost walking distance, and we can call the store by it's name when my sister is around!Listed in: Maui - My Home Away From Home

The new name is equally bad "Guava Gouda and Caviar " and the address is 10 Wailea Gateway Ctr, Kihei, HI 96753 (808) 874-3930. This location is on the corner of the highway and where you turn towards the ocean to go to Wailea. It's a new shopping center with the Monkey Pod restaurant and a chocolate store. We have not been to the new store just drove by on Sunday when they were closed.

i've been a fan of "who cut the cheese" since i discovered it a couple years ago. it always impresses me when a business owner takes the time to educate themselves and their staff on the product they offer, then pass that knowledge onto the customers.
back in the 1930's/40's, stores like sears did this and was rewarded with a loyal customer base. in my opinion, sears is failing now because they've taken that part of the service equation away. who wants to discuss what type of paint one should use for a project with an 18-year-old chewing gum and texting his friends?
i start a trip to this store with picking a wine. although they offer an excellent selection, it doesn't have to be from them, just a wine or sparkling wine of choice. i present what i intend to drink to whoever is working that day and they start making cheese recommendations to pair with it. usually samples of each recommendation are provided so that you're sure your getting what you want. they also have other items to expand on your experience such as spanish fig cake and breads.
the store is by far one of my favorite places on maui - one i peruse on each trip. they are getting ready to move to wailea, i have my fingers crossed it won't affect the way they do business. -

In response to the name of this establishment, it must be the proprietress as she gave me a case of smallmouth with nary a welcoming remark as she breezed by with her platter of salami. An unresolved gaseous outlet can be sadly quite trying.
The ingenious marketer who came up with this store's name should be commended for peaking my interest to come in. Once I came in, it was an unusually dark wine-and-cheese store (dark for Hawaiian standards). There was an oddly out-of-place Tuscan feel to the place as bottles of wine and champagne were displayed among the sample of gourmet food. There was a basket of free cheese samples though they seem to have fossilized over the course of the day, as the toothpick almost snapped as I attempted to spear a few.
I have to withhold true judgment of this place since I wasn't actually served. I left before the proprietress returned. But I have to believe there must be a local audience for this kind of place since I take the likes of artisan cheese shops for granted in San Francisco. Until I return...three stars.Listed in: Mouthing Off About Maui

Fromage lovers will find a decent selection of cheeses - there wasn't anything too out there, but I was happy to find a couple of my favorites (Affinois and theChevre noir) among the mix. The wine selection is pretty decent and they also carry small bottles of interesting liqueurs.
The shop also has a lot of gift type items - a couple that I haven't seen on the mainland - bamboo wine carriers and a board that you can use in conjunction with your wine glass as a tray.
I guess I wasn't feeling it too much, but maybe I am a bit spoiled by the swank fromage shops back home. Still, I would come back here if I was looking to get specific items that I know they carry.Listed in: Maui Revealed

Despite the stupid name, this is a really cute little shop. They have a great selection of cheeses, and a good selection of wine as well. I didn't find it to be particularly overpriced either.
They even make little beach packs with a variety of cheeses, salami and baguette for somewhere in the neighborhood of $20. -

An oh so excellent little cheese shop in a Kehei strip mall. So many good varieties to choose from. The ladies that run it will let you sample. :) They also sell some wine and have one of those quick chilling machines that will chill an accompanying wine selection in short order.
A great place to fill up your picnic basket...or stop in for a little something to take to a dinner party. -

This place has a great selection of cheeses, including my two favorites for pairing with big red wines: 5-year-old Gouda (Holland) and Roaring 40's (an incredibly strong blue cheese from Australia - nothing better with a big Aussie Shiraz). These are cheeses I can only find at Whole Foods in the Puget Sound area (Seattle, Bellevue, Redmond), and hardly anywhere else in my travels. Several other cheeses we sampled were also great - Cotswold (England), Fromage d'Affinois (France) and Stokes' Smoked Cheddar (Australia). The wine selection was small, but they had a few good wines (including the Mollydooker 2006 "The Scooter" Merlot and the Hartford 2005 Russian River Valley Zinfandel. A few more big reds (e.g., other Mollydooker or Marquis Phillips wines) - to complement the cheeses - would be welcome, but they are pretty tight on space.
Prices are pretty high, but we're on vacation, and the cheeses we bought don't generally come cheap anyhow. The woman who served us was extremely cheerful and helpful, contrasting with the experience expressed in the first review. -

I'm a huge cheese fan and this place was very cute with an awesome name, so how could I not give them a 5? All I got here was the Huntsman cheese, one of my all time favorites, which is a combo of Double Gloucester and Stilton. I've never gotten it directly from a lovely little cheese shop before, but this piece was cut fresh from the wheel and was divine with a glass of wine in our hotel room. The gal working there was very nice and offered us samples, but I didn't feel she was trying to upsell us anything. They have lots of yummy snacks and the cheese selection is understandably way better than any of the other supermarkets nearby. Although it's in a strip mall, it didn't feel touristy at all, and reminded me a lot of The Frog's Breath cheese store in old Town Orange, CA. Very cool shop, I would highly recommend it.

Great shop! The owner, Ann is friendly, knowledgeable and has a great concept of customer service. They have a nice selection of wine, cheese and specialty products. Most of all they aren't stuffy wine snobs and seem to really appreciate your business. A breath of fresh air in today's market ironically comes from a cheese shop. I love this place!

Super tiny cheese and wine shop. The wine is expensive but what do you expect? Picked up 2 large wine glasses because the ones in our condo were way too small. Lots of local goodies.

Who Cut The Cheese??? whoops, my bad! haha j/k!
By far one of my top 5 places to go to while I'm in Maui. They have a fantastic selection of cheeses and a good assortment of wines. They even fly in frozen bread from La Brea Bakery in LA and bake it for freshness in Hawaii to be sold to customers! Now that is making sure you do everything right for your customers to be happy.
The staff is friendly and helpful and the owner holds wine tasting classes too, so if you're going to be there a while, call the shop and schedule yourself in!
Best part? We bought a white wine with a bunch of cheese and were complaining about having to wait for the wine to chill, but no fret, they have one of those 2 minute chiller machines that they popped it into for us! Love it!
Perfect place to grab your treats and enjoy a nice maui sunset out of your condo or on the beach with!
