This place isn't very well maintained.  Yes, it does get backed up.  But it has redeeming qualities.

It has 3 different 9 holes, each with it's own quirks and personalities.  Pine is longer and flatter and harbors nasty nasty bugs.  Mountain is shorter, narrower and is deceptive hard because you'll land in some trees and the course will tempt you into doing a glory shot instead of the the safe play.  But if you try the glory shot, chances are you'll hit some trees.  River is like a little of both but it's the longest 9 there.

It is VERY easy to walk on (maybe that's why it gets so backed up).

But the best thing about it is that you can easily play a relatively challenging 9 hole for about 14 bucks.  It's a bit longer than the executives and it's nice to pull out that driver and give it a whirl.

Price:
18: $30 walking.
9: $14 walking

Very flat, not that challenging. This is a safe place to play if you're just beginning. Played here once in a best ball tournament and had a great time. Course was in decent shape, and really didn't have any problems. This facility offers a regulation eighteen hole course and nine hole course. The Eighteen Hole Course has open, tree-lined fairways. The greens are well maintained and have some undulation. The course does not have any water, but the length of the course keeps the people coming back. The course is mostly flat with a few hills on the fairways. The Nine Hole Course generally has about the same layout as the Eighteen Hole Course.

Fun wide open course. Most holes are in good condition, yet a couple of torn up tee boxes and greens. Pace is very good. About 3.5 hours at twilight on a monday. No cart girls. Staff is so so. The starter made me wait until a group showed up 20 minutes, when none came, then told me to go ahead and catch up with another group already out there. Also starter was a bit rude with treating me like an idiot for not knowing where the bathroom or cart area was. You won't lose many, if any balls here. There is one wash you hit a tee shot over and lost one there, but most areas are wide open.

Nice full course.  I think there are either 27 holes to play, but you don't do all of them, there… Read more »

whittier narrows was the 2nd los angeles county golf course i played since i moved from norcal to socal for college.....thus i have fond memories of this course...from the wide fairways to the mindscrewing hole where you have to drive over the aquaduct.......the course is just fun.

since whittier narrows is in rosemead, i typically try and grab a tee time around 11-noon and swing out earlier to grab a banh mi to nosh on in the golf cart.  the course does not dissuade you from bringing your own food and booze....+2 stars for that in itself.  and overall, everyone is mighty friendly at whittier narrows.

the fairways are usually in good shape, but man, hitting a divot in some areas sends vibrations up your shaft and inot your body....why? cause the dirt underneath the grass is seriously hard as rock. ugh! the greens are a lil tattered but i heard they redid all the greens so they are in much better shape.

the only real qualm i have regarding the course is it's proximity to the shooting range.  imagine this, you are steadying yourself at the tee and as you are rocking your downswing...POP POP POP!!  yeah, gunfire does cause one to lose their concentration. lol.

for all the hacker golfers, hit up this course. it is easy and the play is typical of a la county course. i think i usually finish in a bit over 5 hrs.

Live a couple miles away and try to stay away.  I only play when my club does a tournament there.  It's a goat ranch.  Lots of gopher holes and the fairways are indistinguishable from the rough.  Yes, it's a wide open course and the length is challenging but the greens are too slow and screws up putting on other courses.  If you're a beginner, enjoy it.  It's tough to lose balls here but easy to get into the trees.

Layout-wise, this is not a very challenging golf course. There are no water hazards and despite being tree-lined, you have to go waaaaay off course to hit a ball in the trees. I will say this, the speed of play here on a Saturday afternoon was remarkably good. We teed off at 3pm and played in 4.5 hours. Greens were a little bumpy but overall, the course was in great shape. Price is right too - only $25 twilight with a cart rental!

Played here recently for the first time - it's a pretty simple course (no water hazards or potential to lose balls) but distance is pretty long.

The golf course offers 27 holes.

For the beginners/casual golfers, this is a good course to learn.
