Whitney made me like my body again.
No wait. That's not quite right.
She INTRODUCED me to body. Like, for the first time. I hadn't actually noticed that it was there before -- my head had always been too interesting and distracting to get past itself.
She said, "Hey Sarah, I know you just think you're here for back pain, but I'd also like you to meet someone. It's your whole body. Look, when I poke it here, it relaxes. Doesn't that feel good?"
I was stunned.
She then proceeded to do all sorts of weird trippy things like poke me in one place to make something happen in another place... stuff that makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE to my brain, but my body was ALL about it.
So I went back again. And again. And again. And now my body and I are now on regular speaking terms, thanks to Whitney.
Thank you, Whitney.
Whitney does a fabulous job; great music, great calming atmosphere, powerful massage with finesse!
I love that she takes notes & keeps track of my progress/needs, and she's excruciatingly well trained. I learn more about anatomy, body mechanics & pressure points every time; which is saying something, since I teach dance at the college level and know bodies pretty dang well!
She's a wonderful soul, and a great worker!
One of the most conscientious and thoughtful massage therapists I've ever had touch me. I have many musculoskeletal issues--from bad knees to numbness and tingling in my arms to scoliosis. Ms. Moses has gone out of her way to not only address these problems, but to come up with long-term solutions--even referring me to other bodyworkers and learning from them as they worked on me so that her skillset increased.
I go to her whenever I can and recommend her to everyone I know.
Whitney is the one of the few individuals I trust to work on my body. She took a great deal of time at our initial meeting to get to know my body in theory before she began her work. She is very well-versed in different techniques and is able to tailor her work to each individual client's needs at the drop of a hat.
Whitney provides a warm, comfortable and relaxing atmosphere in which to work her healing magic. She makes sure her clients are comfortable in the environment, offering heating pads and soothing music as an aid to the relaxation process.
I left my first session with Whitney feeling replenished and relaxed and standing up straight for the first time in my life. I famously exhibit TERRIBLE posture, have had problems with my back, shoulders and knees, and just simply get rather beat up as a result of daily life.
Whitney makes it all better. :-)
I recently received my first massage from Whitney. I say "first" because I fully intend to pay her another visit in the future. She has a friendly and comforting demeanor which helped me push aside a significant amount of my discomfort about being touched by someone I'm not intimately involved with. Even more impressive is that she managed to chase away a great deal of the stiffness and pain in my neck, back, and hips. In fact, the very moment I stood up from the table, I noticed that the sharp pain that had been living in my right hip for days was gone. Since I have chronic health problems, I didn't expect her to perform a miracle and send me away completely pain-free, but neither did I expect to walk away feeling as good as I did and to remain feeling *noticeably* better for several days afterward.
Whitney does work out of her home, but in a separate building at the outside edge of her backyard, so it feels much more like you're at a quaint spa than someone's house. In fact, I felt a bit like Goldilocks because the massage table, room temperature, and soft background music were all Just Right accompaniments to Whitney's magic hands.
Whether you visit Whitney yourself or purchase a massage for a friend, it's definitely time and money well spent.
Edited to say that Whitney has moved her practice since I posted my review. I'll be sure to add an update after my next visit.
Whitney is great and just a super nice person as well.
Her massage and energy are very understanding and nurturing.
Anyone would be comfortable in her presence, I even had her massage my mama! ^_^
Whitney is an outstandingly-talented massage therapist. I enjoy a general, full-body, relaxing rubdown... but Whitney offers something much better. She can assess, with preternatural accuracy, where there is tension or misalignment that is causing pain and discomfort, and can use a combination of massage techniques and neuro-muscular reprogramming to sort things out so the relief is far more than a temporary "ahhhh."
I had a mild foot sprain that, over time, compounded itself into throwing off my hips and upper back so badly that I could barely walk. Where another massage therapist might have massaged the places that were directly sore, Whitney worked with my whole body, finding hidden imbalances that were contributing to the source of the problem, rather than just treating the symptoms. She helped get me functional again in a very brief amount of time, when I was originally in so much pain I had actually broken down and taken a Vicodin at work.
Whits knows her stuff, and is constantly deepening her knowledge of bodywork so she can address her clients' needs. If you just need relaxation and self-care, she can definitely provide that with great warmth and skill, but for injury, pain, or other acute issues, she is unparallelled.
I encountered Whitney when she was a student in one of the circus aerial skills and conditioning classes that I teach. I liked the idea of being massaged by someone who actually knew, from first-hand experience, what I was doing with my body on a regular basis. So, I had my first massage from Whitney a few years ago and was happy to discover that she has the ability to modulate the intensity of her touch to match my needs (which always vary from one appointment to the next.)
She has since worked in a number of different locations, but I would say that her current location is pleasant and sufficiently private. I have continued to see her through to the present time and, most notably, have benefitted from her thirst for knowledge and passion for the study of the body. Every time I go back to her it seems as if she has just added another tool to her belt! She utilizes this impressive array of bodywork modalities as needed in any single session, to find the most effective means to provide you with physical relief.
Above and beyond her quality training and natural instincts I believe that Whitney takes her work very seriously. She is 100% committed to using her arsenal of healing techniques to understand what is going on in your body and to help you feel better. I feel good supporting her as an independent practictioner.
Whitney is wonderful! She has been an acquaintance of mine for years and I've always found her to be exceedingly warm, friendly, fun, and talented.
I just went to her for bodywork for the first time last week. I've never had bodywork done, and I've only had professional massages twice before, but I must say she is AMAZING. Very professional, extremely knowledgeable, and her hands work wonders. I recently had a back injury, and I went to her for help with that. She recently started doing Neuromuscular Reprogramming, which is something I was previously unaware of. It is like magic. After an hour long session with her, my back felt much more flexible than it had, and a week later my pain is nearly gone! It's hard to say how much of that is due to what she did and how much is just normal healing, but her working out the tension that had built up in my back due to the injury has definitely helped move things along. Not to mention it felt incredibly good.
Something else I liked a lot was how she told me exactly what she was doing, and educated me about how my body works in the process. It was really interesting to me because I love learning that kind of thing. Plus, it was abundantly clear that she is very knowledgeable about what she's doing: anatomy, musculature, the way the human body works, etc.
I will definitely be going back to Whitney again!
Whitney is a very good massage therapist. She's caring, professional and inquisitive. She keeps track of her clients' conditions (if they have any) and works with the client's feedback in order to choose the best modality/modalities of treatment. She can work as deeply or as gently as you need. Unlike some folks who rest on their laurels, Whitney is constantly learning new things and applying the good ones in her practice.

She has a sliding scale available.
Location is Oakland near MacArthur BART. Outcalls negotiable.
Whitney is the best massage therapist I've ever been to. She's strong enough to actually work out the knots I get. She listens to me tell her what's sore, then checks it herself to figure out how to best work out the problem. She also gives useful advice on self-treatment. I feel better for *days* after a massage by Whitney.
The only complaint I have is that she generally keeps a workday schedule, and is popular enough to need booking a little further in advance than I can arrange sneaking away from work to make it in to see her.
Whitney ROCKS!
But besides that, she is an amazing massage therapist and body-worker. One of only two people I go to these days, as others just haven't seemed to "get it". They were good, yes - but Whitney goes many steps further and creates a massage distinctly for *you*, and for exactly what your body needs. You'll literally float off of her table when she's through!
Oh, and lucky for us people in San Francisco, she now works in the Mission on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which is just another way she makes our life better...
What can I say (write)? The girl is a Witch! I mean, who else can walk into a sardine can with bad feng shui, ignore the sardines and take on the forces of gravity, electro-magnetism and noisy bondage, and make a difference in one screwed-up girl's polarities? Who can deaden pain and reassemble muscles and molecules until the spiky black-clad corpses are unbound and free to trample SOMA again? Who else, I ask you! Well, I know Whitney can!
It's true. Whit has great hands and really knows how to work the muscles . Even those weird kinks I get from climbing. She understands the meaning of deep tissue massage. Yay. She works from home, which is in an iffy part of Emeryville... so don't expect the typical serene spa setting. But close your eyes and just enjoy the great bodywork.
The best massage I've had. Whitney is strong and calming and she she knows exactly what she's doing. She helped get me on the road to healing after my neck had frozen up due to extended tall-person-in-airplane-seat time.
whitney is a genious. her intuition and impeccable attention to detail is unmatched. i have seen her only twice, but in those two times i have gained a tremendous respect for the level of work she provides, as well as gained so much relief from the physical stress the plagues me on a daily basis. every time i have seen her, i am left with only one thought, "why don't i do this more often?"
i am a hair-stylist, so i'm sure you can imagine how nasty the knots in my shoulders and back are. it sucks. sometimes i want to curl up in a ball it hurts so bad, but somehow whitney can actually make some of my boulder-sized knots calm down. i don't know how she does it, but the girl has a gift.
you can tell she actually loves what she does because it shows. she pays attention to all the tiny details and she has taught me many things about my own body that i never even knew.
whitney is a thoughtful, friendly and intelligent massage therapist and i would highly recommend her.
Whitney is an excellent Massage Therapist. She has a very nurturing touch, as well as extensive clinical study. As a massage therapist myself, I am VERY picky, and Whitney surpassed my expectations.
House calls!!!!
Most of my day is spent hunched over a keyboard. My back a gnarled mess of unhappy. Last week I threw out my back but since I was on a business trip I had to navigate hours on a plane and standing around on my feet.
Whitney made it all better and was incredibly flexible about her time.
Best of all I feel sprightly again (and my back is happier).
Whitney's skill and work is a wonderful blend between the intellectual, the intuitive, and the sensate. Her education regarding human anatomy and kinetics is obvious--I have a number of injuries to work through, and she is always taking note of new areas of knowledge to apply to them! ALSO: It just feels DAMN good.
Whitney is an excellent bodyworker - focused, intuitive, and skilled. She is able to listen to the body. As a bodyworker myself, I appreciate working with someone who is able to be truly present with the work, and know how important that is. Whitney clearly brings this to her bodywork. Plus she is a warm and compassionate person.
Whitney gives great massages - professional, intuitive, thorough and responsive to feedback.
I'm picky about who I hire to heal me. I think that good skill is only a start. Whitney has those skills, and is deeply invested in refining them as a lifelong process. She is attentive, and targets teh areas most in need based on her clients' histories.
More than that, though, she has a sense of humanism and compassion that lends itself to making a massage more than just relaxing, but deeply healing. Her magic hands start working my back, and I am rid of old negative feelings that have been locked in. Buh-bye, baggage!
Omigod, this lady knows how to work it. I am so happy on her table, puddy in her hands.
Whitney really knows her connective tissues and how to facilitate them release bunched up energy and allow your body to get back to normal. She also will assign exercises and stretches for you to work on after she's done so that you can stay loose for much longer. She's the one that I'll definitely be going back to.
Whitney's massage is very different from other massages I've had. Before you even get on the table, she asks questions about the problems or areas that you want to address. Then while on the table, she offers great educational information on the physiology of the muscle groups she is targeting, and things you can do to help keep your body happy. Many CMT's I've been to do the same standard generalized massage over and over. Whitney really tailored her massage to my body issues, which made me feel like I was getting the most beneficial massage possible. It was a fantastic experience, and I will be going back for more!
