I was introduced to this winery at the Urbanna Oyster Fest during the first Weekend in November 2006. I gave away both a red and white to two separate couples. Both folks found the wines very mild and drinkable.
Irvington sits on the mouth of the Rappahanock River and the Chesapeake Bay off US 17 near Tappahanock, VA. One of the best getaways for DC folks is the Hope & Glory Inn and Irvington (http://www.hopeandglor...).
Could one day be a good place. Its not bad now, but its got a lot of room for growth. Its really hard to find. So, once you get there, you really want something fantastic. Its an odd place. A sort of shack in the middle of a field. The area to enjoy a glass is well put together. That's a good part. The bathroom, well, its basically just a porta potty behind a door attached to the shack. Weird.
The tasting room is tiny and if more than one group wants a tasting, its hard to manuever. The wine is ok. They make a good Chardonel... although Chardonel isn't really much of a grape. They make a good merlot, and a decent chambourcin. Then, that's about it. Worth stopping by, as it is one of the best places in the area.
One weird thing, they are all about Meteors. Ok great... why? Was there a meteor showere here? I have no idea, I guess its just a gimmick.
