White Castle!
We hit this place on our way out to Memphis, and our way back from Memphis.
We just had to. We loved the movie, and we have always craved the Sliders.
So we had sliders, and more sliders.
And it was good.
Tennessee was worth it just for this trip! -

Hip or hype? Methinks Hype more is more apropeau for this joint. I would've been just fine buying the frozen box at the grocery store and heating the burgers in the microwave. The flavor was okay, but the buns were soggy, and the cheese was like a thin layer of mustard spread over the bun. Perhaps my disappointment comes from the high hopes I had for flavor, both from other Yelpers and the classic Harold and Kumar which made it famous, or perhaps it comes from the fact we had driven 13 hours for a good burger...not sure. Nonetheless, it didn't make the cut.

I'm half Indian, and half Chinese. Going to White Castle was like fulfilling my own personal version of Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. This is probably the most amazing thing about being in Tennessee, save for the extremely close proximity between bars.

I hate to do this. I LOVE Krystal, especially being a Southerner. White Castle is better. It just is. I'm not sure what it is about those things, but they are just better. My wife and I actually did a little taste test. We visited both establishments and we both did a little blind taste test. Unfortunately, we both chose the White Castle burger over the Krystal. Id love to say that it went the other way, but it did not. WC is it. *Fortunately* Krystal still holds the monopoly on most of the southeast and we don't really have a choice. So, most dont even know there is something better.

i know. you're thinking "4 stars?? for white castle??"
allow me to explain.
there is something about the combination of steamed soggy bread and re-hydrated onions that is addictive. especially when you find yourself living in a place where this specific flavor is nonexistent. just as taco bell isn't mexican food - it's taco bell - so white castle isn't a burger and fries. it's white castle. it's my guilty pleasure to beat all guilty pleasures. it is completely satisfying. -

Never been to white castle before. I didn't think it was such a big deal. It was good but nothing magical. Might go back.
