White Castle fries DON'T only come in one size!
I scratched one of my life's goals off today... i ate at White Castle. I have wanted to try White Castle for as long as I can remember.. way before those Harold and Kumar dudes. Cruising East on the 94 from Milwauke to Chicago, there it was... a giant billboard that seemed to have the light of the heavens shining down on it: "White Castle, Exit 344, Turn Left".
My hands gripped the wheel with excitement, nervousness, and anticipation as I drove 5mph under the limit, making sure I didn't miss my exit. Would it really be good? What if it sucked, what a major let down... could I cope with that type of a disappointment? Maybe its better to just keep driving and for White Castle to remain an elusive fantasy....? What if I get sick....? I am sensitive to Gluten and Dairy, would getting potentially sick and hives REALLY be worth it? What if I got REALLY sick by flooding my body with all that bad shit after going so long without it...? It would be like feeding an Ethiopian a Big Mac, extra cheese... he'd probably die! What if I got sick on the plane I would be sitting on 5hrs from now? My head was spinning as I pulled off the highway, seemingly on auto-pilot... visions of sliders dancing in my head.
............ There it was. White Castle. I entered proudly, smiling ear to ear, ordered 4 sliders with cheese, fries, and a coke. O M F G. Nirvana. The burgers were perfect. Gooey cheesy center, little diced onions, soft spongy bread, pickles.... mmmmmmmmm, I scarfed down 4 and jumped up and ordered 2 more. Perfection.
I didn't end up getting sick.... surprisingly it seems the White Castle gods took care of me today.... they knew it wasn't going to be an every day thing, not even a yearly thing.... perhaps a once in a lifetime thing, and they allowed it. And it was good. -

I don't get the White Castle attraction.
I've stopped twice and each time the burgers have been mushy and tasteless. What's with the onions!? Couldn't even finish the burger. No complaints on the fries.
Service was slow at the counter. I was the only one in line and it took about 10 min to get two double cheese burgers even though they had over six people in the back. -

I hate to admit it but was extremely excited that as I was driving from Chicago to Milwaukee there was a White Castle. After always stocking this little store bought frozen burgers I finally got to try them at an actual location. I ordered one of each from their menu pretty much chicken, fish, and beef varieties. Bacon Cheese, Chicken Ring, and Fish were the best. Topped it off with Bacon Ranch Cheese fries and washed it down with some Cola. Now I understand why Harold and Kumar drove to White Castle.

THE FIRST RULE OF WHITE CASTLE?
Be drunk off your ass when you're at White Castle. I sadly did not know this rule so I found the experience to be kind of disgusting. Is meat supposed to be gray? Yeah, didn't think so.

Been to a lot of White Castles since moving to Chicagoland, but this location has always been the best. Good, fast service. Burgers turn out not so much like sloppy squishy bite sized ...things. More like tiny tasty burgers as they should be.
I'm pretty much over liking White Castle, but if Im in the Kenosha area its always tempting to stop in. -

I crave White Castle the way a crack addict craves, well, crack. There is something so wonderful about these burgers. I'm not sure what it is. Their soft light as air almost not there buns? The steamed meat with little holes who's juices seep into the soft buns? The subtle onions? Doesn't matter, wha I do know is White Castle Burgers are like potato chips, you can't have just one. It's such a shame (or perhaps a blessing in disguise) that the closest one to me is in Kenosha. Oh and I live for their cheese fries too.
