I end up here more times than I want to talk about due to a friend who likes spending her weekends here when she comes to town.

I think this would be a great place to hang out during football season. Lots of TVs, viewable from every part of the bar, good number of pool tables so you can multi-task whilst watching a game...cheap drinks -- but stick to the shots and beer, and friendly bartenders/management/security.

At night, the place really changes. It's not exactly scary...I think the better way to describe is to say it's depressing, I think . A real lack of women in the bar, and the music is way too loud...unpleasant. Staff is still great, but it says something when I make a point of staying completely sober...in a bar.

Long time ago, Whiskey Town used to be a real cool joint.  The interior was created by a stage designer. It had cool pinball, a cool crowd, and a decent owner.

Now, I wouldn't go 10-feet near the place.  Its crowd is rough, home-boy types and other degenerate types.  Trust me, I know...since this bar is closed until mid-January due to being busted for customers drinking outside, their "clientele" now come to my neighborhood bar...YUK!

Yeah, the only good thing going for this place is Taco Bell and Carl's Jr. in the parking lot, spitting distance from the bar.

I think this place was fire bomb last year, too, by a rival bar...if that says anything about Whiskey Town.

Oh yeah, its a Newark Police Department favorite hit...so beware.

This place has turned itself around quite a bit within the past year or so, and in my half-assed opinion, for the better.  It looks cleaner, there's more tvs and there's a new crew of bartenders which in turn makes the place a little livelier.

Thursday-Saturday nights are way different than the other nights which are way more mellow, so pick a night, depending on your mood/company.  My buddy just moved in this area, so this is where we kick it every now and then.  Sometimes we just come in on a quiet night and have a few after work, and other times the place is packed with more of a crazier hip hop crowd.  It's all good times.

My plus for this place is that it is right next to a Taco Bell and a Carl's Jr.  So close that I don't have to leave first gear to enter their drive-thrus.  Even though I don't care for fast food, it does come in handy in the later hours when I am a little buzzed.  Whether its crispy tacos or a Famous Star, my stomach and head benefits the following day.  Even though seeing the fast food containers in my trash the next morning makes me a little regretful, kinda like a one night stand where you say to yourself, "God, what was I thinking?"

OMG!  WFT was that???

as i was told, my friend was meeting up here for his birthday. i was rather surpried he chose this place since he lives in fremont and this has to be the dive bars of dive bars in all of newark, and its sooooo stuck in the very back corner of shopping center.  i've been 21+ over for quite some time and never have i though about going to this place.

none the less we all met up there and the crowd was made up of newark Grade-A homies.  thug life and they mean it!  the place had this really odd vibe to it, with a terribly out dated SALOON interior. gross, and dark in all the wrong palces.  all i had to drink was beer in fear of being bitch slapped for ordering a mix drink.

i don't know... if thats your scene, by all means enjoy.

I JUST got home from here and had a good time.  Lot of young people...wiiiiiiide range of music flowin on that juke box.  There are like 3 or 4 pool tables (all kinda tooooo close together) but they work.  Some dude asked my man if they could "share pool sticks" lol...obviously they are lackin stix... The bathroom had a grimey feel....it's located in a plaza near fast food.  I noticed other users said its a COP HOT SPOT and I made it home safe (thankful) buuuuut while I was in there I did notice a cop come in and peep out the scene so be careful.  Id come back...had fun!

ewww so ghetto! My friends and I were bar searching after a bar that was recommended to us fell through and stumbled upon this place. To be honest, we didn't even make it inside--that's how gross it was! It's in a creepy location and we drove around in the parking lot to find parking, but upon setting my gorgeous eyes on those "homeboys" staking their turf outside, we drove right back out and went the The Florence. This place seems ghetto and dangerous, like my friend Mieko G...check out her Yelp account!

Ya gotta see Mary's yelpy little dog. The L shaped pool table is cool too. Kind of out of the way in the back of a shopping center but cool atmosphere.

Whiskey Town is a real chill dive bar in Newark. Coronas are cheap and there is plenty of places to sit and chill with the pals. Cool place.

OK, depending on what night (like other reviewers posted) this bar can be a total chill dive where you can put in tunes on the juke box or it can be totally lively with loud rap music and tons of people.  Be careful what night you go, I personally don't like loud rap music so sometimes I drive up and drive right away when I hear it from the parking lot.  I would guess that the bigger crowds are on Thurs, Fri Sat but there have been some random weekdays that are really bumping.

I had never even heard of this bar until my friend told me about it and we desided to go with a group of friends. It was pretty cool,we went on a Saturday night and they had a live DJ spinning Hip Hop/Top 40 hits,it was very packed that night. The venue is not too small but not to big so you have room to walk without bumping into people.Security is very friendly and there is "no dress code" Just don't wear any gang colors cause they will not let you in and that's a fact/no excepitions!
The bar is located in a shopping strip so there is pleanty of parking and you got Taco Bell in the parking lot,so you got a place to grub after the bar closes.

The main thing that's all bad with this bar is that by the end of the night most of Newark PD is in the parking lot waiting to bust or pull you over!!!We got pulled over when we were about to get on the freeway so be aware of Newark pigs!

For Christs sake people... I've lived all over the U.S. and I've been to some truly ghetto bars. I have no idea why everyone below is hating on this place. When it comes to bars, I look for a couple of key things... Service, Attitude, Price, and the crowd... The prices are normal, the service and bartenders are GREAT. (Especially Kandace) and they make the drinks nice and stiff. They have recently done some remodeling and I've never had a problem with the crowd. People are friendly, and I often strike up conversations or jump into pool games with strangers and I have been there about 15 times over the past few months and never seen any drama or "Fire-bombs" like someone else mentioned. The bar manager Dave is usually around and he, like his staff is very friendly. Overall, if I want to just go to a bar for a drink and chill, this is a great place. The ONLY drawback is there is not much in the way of... well, single, female clientele? But like I said, sometimes I just want to go have a drink and play some pool, and Whiskey Town fits the bill.
