Read about this place on Yelp while visiting Mammoth, so our group decided to try Whiskey Creek for a little food and beverage. We started out sitting around a big table in the bar, room for all eight of us. That was nice, the service was good, drinks came fast and were flowing. We ordered appetizers: spicy wings and calamari. Both were good. Next we went to the pool tables. These tables have seen better days. We were fairly well lit up so it was fun.
After hanging out an hour or so we went downstairs for dinner. I ordered a new york steak, wasabi mashed potatoes and asparagus. The steak was good, the potatoes so so, and the asparagus good. Stay away from the mac and cheese, no flavor. Everything else the party ordered was tasty. We had a fun time at Whiskey Creek.
Within minutes of arriving in the high altitudes of Mammoth, my good friend and I headed out to Whiskey Creek for what has been referred to as "beers at altitude." Think un-acclimatized drinking at 8,000 feet is the same old experience as at sea level? ...think again. One pint (2 if you're Irish--or Korean for that matter) will make you tipsy, hands down.
If you want the restaurant, you stay downstairs...but if you want a rousing bar experience filled with fresh-off-the-slopes 'brosefs and their skater-girl groupies, then upstairs is where it's at. We had no problem finding a seat at the bar, and even ordered burgers. The burgers were above average, and completely necessary to offset the alcohol, sans sea-level grade oxygen.
The service is good... the staff's attitudes have a slight edge...but as long as you don't act like a total yuppie, you'll steer clear of any douchbaggery. (paradoxical as that statement is)
whiskey creek is the place we always go for our evening festivities when we're here in the winter. mostly because we always stay at the condos across the parking lot so not driving is a huge plus.
the food here is decent, but a tad overpriced. it boasts high-end dining prices but the food doesn't live up. the best thing i've had were the ribs, super tasty.
we mostly go for the dancing and drinking located in the bar area upstairs. they have a good happy hour, but get there early if you want to get a seat. there's also pool tables and darts. after 9 (not positive on the exact time) they go club style and wheel away all of the tables and then either have a dj or live band.
on the weekends the crowd was full of tourists like us so pretty much had a wide range of ages from college kids, to old ski bums. during the week, the crowd seemed to be mostly locals and younger. they play decent music, have reasonably priced drinks, and offer a moderate sized dance floor.
nothing great at whiskey, but if you're staying in the village its the best place to get your drink on and dance with random strangers.
Came out to Whiskey's for a snow-trip and b-day/easter celebration. The food was decent, and better than I expected in a resort/lodge area. Typically you get what you can get, but I enjoyed the meal quite a bit. I had heard the pork chops were delicious, but they no longer have that on their menu. So I settled for their pork tenderloins, which were still very good. At the end, they brought a birthday sundae fit for the birthday girl
I would recommend Whiskey Creek for all those adventure-goers who want to have a decent sit-down meal while vacationing in Mammoth
Yay for go-go dancers in the middle of 20 degree weather! This place was pretty packed when some friends and I went last Saturday night after a full day of snowboarding. The bottom floor was a dining area, and the top floor turns into a club at night.
There was a line to get in...and it was $5 for guys and ladies were free. The line was VERY slow moving, which annoyed me. We checked out two other bars close by and just ended up coming back here since it was bumpin'. The Village is within walking distance
It was pretty much a sausage fest. I had great company with me, so it was an awesome time.
I was surprised to see the night life was so alive in Mammoth. The next night, Sunday, it looked dead as we drove by. So, I guess we went on a good night.
Hands down the worst, most overpriced food in all of Mammoth. I mean, truly, truly awful. I would get dragged there once a year for discounted local's night (which I think is really their version of cleaning out the freezer) and left every time thinking "why did I do that to my stomach again?"
And don't even get me started on the trainwreck that is Wild Wednesday.
I've only been to the upstairs, but I like this place a lot. Great beer selection (including sampler options), decent bar food and usually a pretty friendly staff.
Show up between 4 and 5:30 PM for happy hour, your wallet and stomach will appreciate it.
Mammoth is not known for its après ski on the slopes (at least at the warming hut 2 side of the hill) especially on cold days when you can't instead and instead are forced to hang out at the makeshift lounge in front of the ski ticket purchasing area.
This is probably the closest bar to that side of the mountain (admittedly, the new village is too new for me to discuss). Not sure if the upstairs area is actually a different place or part of the whiskey. the sign says mamoth brewery and i'm just assuming that is based on what they serve. The bar is a pretty good scene.
They've got a happy hour and the spicy wings are very good, and the peanut wings are even better, but now that we have a shortage of chicken wings, not sure if they're going to be able to offer happy hour prices on them. the sauce is thick, the wings are juicy and the batter is delightful. As far as restaurants for restaurant sake, there are better places in town, but this might be the most lively.
This is the place for nightlife... so i hear... i came in during happy hour... where the entire bar menu is half off... how fantabulous was that?
Anyhoo... Had the spinach artichoke dip... which came with both chips and garlic bread sticks on the side... my eyes lit up as soon as i saw thems garlic bread sticks... i love nothing more than garlic bread sticks... except for maybe some cheese... and anything that has to do with hot peppers... or anything buttery... pretty much anything that would send my heart into cardiac arrest is my friend... the dip was a tad bit watery for my taste... i've grown accustomed to the CPK dip which consists of mainly cheese and butter... but... it was still a very good dip...
For my main dish I ordered the chicken caesar wrap which was alright... i think i would have enjoyed it in just pure salad form though... it seemed to be missing some substance as a wrap... although when i went home and stuffed it with cheese it was waaay more satisfying...
They have good service here even thought hey get really busy during happy hour.
All appetizers and entrees half price.
a dollar off beers, and 4 dollars off pitchers
We got there at about 4pm and got a great table! It wasn't busy at the time..then come 430..packed! It was crazy!
Happy hour ends at 530. The service is very nice. The food is good. Not a fan of their calamari..but their hot wings and crab salmon cakes are really tasty and yummy!! :)
We had various different entrees..all of which were bleh. Next time I go up there..probably stick with only appetizers.
Amazing steaks!!! Literally just pure bliss!! And hot waitresses too. That's always a plus. We actually got hooked up here because some dude found out we were divers and he put a hundred bucks on our tab. that rocked.
I've been to the dining room once or twice a while back and I remember the food being good, not great. It was nice for a ski town, but nothing special.
BUT....Whiskey Creek has the BEST Happy Hour in Mammoth!! Great food, fun ski town vibe, and you can feed a large party of hungry skiers with tons of beer for maybe $100. The Happy Hour food is always good....wings, artichoke dip, quesadilla, etc.... and the entire bar menu is half price. I think there are also Happy Hour specials on pitchers of beer. They have a nice selection of beers on tap.
One tip...Whiskey Creek does not open until about 4 (varies by season), so you can't go before the lifts close...but the Happy Hour gets packed in minutes. If you're not there by 4:30 expect to fight for a table in the bar. So you do need to time your Happy Hour party well. But it's worth it!!
Go upstairs for a great apres ski scene!
Daily from 4:00 to 5:30 they have drink specials and a menu of half-off food which includes steaks, ribs, crab cakes, fish tacos....enough for a meal. Our large group of 21 to 50+ y.o.s ate our fill, sampling each other's plates and enhoying various pitchers brewed on-site by the local Mammoth Brewing Company while watching the playoffs over MLK weekend.
I've only had dinner here for New Year's Eve, and it was many years ago, but my recall is everything was tasty, and the prix fix price seemed a bargain, especially since it included access to the nightclub afterwards without waiting in line.
If you go, and you really should go, try the chicken in peanut ginger sauce with lemon-garlic asparagus and rice pilaf. I've had meals in 30+ states and countless cities and I gotta say...this is as good as it gets. The White Russian Tiramisu was out of this world, too.
Fun spot for a party, too!
The sugar infused steak dishes here are pretty good whether it be in the steak and potato entree or the huge quesadilla that I ordered. I'd highly recommend it for a day after boarding. It's quite filling and reasonably priced for "a skiing town with a drinking problem."
The service is quite friendly. The waitress was more than willing to accommodate my "smoky martini," even though it's not a traditional drink or ever on the menu.
Oh God. This place caused me to share with some of my co-workers/bosses the story about that time in Italy that I had a little too much white wine and woke up the next morning covered in white paint. Long story. Apparently you have to be one of my managers to find out the real deal.
Anyway, food and drinks here were great, at a good value. I easily substituted whatever side was supposed to come with my lamb with SWEET POTATO FRIES. Whatever IPA I was drinking was delicious (hence the sharing of embarrassing anecdotes).
Yeah, we were in a pretty big group and somewhat loud. But that's no reason for your waiter to literally ROLL THEIR EYES at your table when you ask for another minute before ordering. Seriously. Minus one star just for that. Otherwise a great place. The band/dj upstairs after dinner was a lot of fun too. And at least I didn't wake up the next day with paint on my clothes.
If you are looking for a good place to eat drink and be merry in Mammoth this is a good spot. I ordered their lamb and thought it was delicious. They also brew their own beer here so be sure to grab a pint-or two. They have seasonal beers which are always fun.
If you happened to stop at Whiskey Creek in Bishop on your way up to Mammoth don't worry this place is NOTHING like that disaster. The food is great and so is the service. Its almost crazy to think they are have anything to do with each other.
For Mammoth, this is 5 star food, but in California as a whole, Whiskey Creek only gets 4.
I'm a huge red meat eater...especially steak...and there is nothing I love more after a hard day of riding than a huge slab of prime rib and veggies. That is just what I get at Whiskey Creek. In all the years that I've been coming here (about a decade), I don't think I've tried anything else but their steaks and veggies. It is just the fuel I need after my first day of riding. This way when I wake up the following morning, my body is properly fueled for another day of shredding.
The attire is mountain casual, but I wouldn't recommend coming here in your gear, straight from the slopes. Hit the showers, clean up a bit, and enjoy your meal as a nice evening out. I always eat in the downstairs dining room, but others prefer the more informal upstairs environment. One is sure to strike your fancy.
I've never been able to stay awake long enough to experience the "night life" here. After riding all day, hitting the hot tub, and then polishing off a large steak, I'm ready for bed about 10 PM. LOL! Who said snowboarders are all party animals! This animal needs her beauty sleep....yaaawn!
Of the three dinners I've had in Mammoth and the six meals total I've had at dining establishments here, I've gotta give Whiskey Creek the highest rating.
The dining room is elegant for a ski village and the service was fast and friendly. My partner ordered a glass of wine that was quite generous in its proportions. I opted not to imbibe on this particular evening.
We started with ahi (for him) and a salad (for me)-- the salad had a little too much iceberg lettuce for my taste and the candied walnuts were the most memorable part of the salad... but if you don't mind having non-nutritious starter salad, go for the sunflower salad-- it looked better on the menu than on the plate.
I've gotta say we were very pleased with our main course selections. Here's what happened: they screwed up our order and I got the lamb a little more well done than I wanted (I was looking for pink, didn't see much pink) and my meal mate ordered a tostada salad that turned out to be salmon. Once we realized we didn't have the right meals I had already nabbed a raspberry from his plate and dug into mine, leaving us with a dilemma: do we return the meals to the kitchen, waste the food and wait 15-20 more minutes to eat? Or do we just eat what is in front of us and be grateful that they didn't mess up the order enough to give us the beet salad and the very very rare elk?
We opted for eating what we had, which turned out to be pretty good. My meal was overdone for my taste, but seeing that they were willing to and were going to correct this mistake, I don't hold it against them. They made a generous adjustment to correct our meal swap incident (-50%) and we were pleased with this amendment to our bill.
We didn't have dessert, but they did have a few tempting dishes and I'm sure they wouldn't disappoint. I'd definitely go back to Whiskey Creek next time I'm in Mammoth.
Good american food. Good burger. Some HUMONGOUS burger.
The staff during the winter time is typically comprise of Aussies, so chit-chatting with them is pretty enjoyable.
Beer + burgers = Happy Evening after an awesome day on the slopes.
Ive been coming to Whiskey Creek for years and they never disappoint. Our group is always large so we make a reservation at least 4 weeks in advance. I always order the 14oz flat iron steak, taking one of the pieces for lunch the next day. It comes with a yummy veal reduction sauce and all sorts of sides, both veggies and carb filled choices. As our group are a bunch of wine snobs, we bring our own and pay the corkage. The wait staff usually comps a bottle. We tip accordingly.
**Update** Due to the unfortunate "involuntary hiatus" that I am on I ordered the meatloaf on my last visit (the flat iron was out of my price range). Best choice...the Cajun flavor, the wrapping of bacon, and the generous portion (enough for a sandwich the next day). I'll be back this weekend and will be ordering the meatloaf again!
This is our first visit to Whiskey Creek. It is one of the older establishments of fine dining in the Mammoth area. A local merchant recommended this as a must visit location. We were not disappointed. It was an outstanding dining experience. The portions are large the food quite tasty. I has the ahi-tuna, which was excellent and my teenage son could not finish his meatloaf dinner which according to him the best meatloaf he has ever tasted, that included his Mom's.
Our server was outstanding, we received great service. We will definitely be back on the next fishing trip to Mammoth.
Real romantic, dimly lit, and fancy entrees. Portions are very small, though. That would be my only complaint. My BF had the rack of lamb and I had steak w/ polenta and some greens. It was all very delicious and the service was very good. Not a casual dinner kind of place... casual dress, yes, but casual prices, eh, not so much. So bring your wallet!
The meatloaf at this place is probably the best i've ever had, first of all after its cooked they grill it and its wrapped in bacon, I mean c'mon you cant get much better than that. Beer selection is also good!
This place has amazing food and very good portions! We came here randomly. We were at the general store a few blocks down the street looking through a magazine that had menu's from all the restaurants in the area. The portobello sandwich caught my bf's eyes so we decided to head on over here. We called the restaurant asking if we can make reservations for the night and they were all booked until 9:30pm!! But, the person on the phone mentioned they had a bar area upstairs that seats on a first come, first serve basis so we thought we'd give it a shot. Luckily there was ONE table left for the two of us...score! :) Of course, the bf ordered the portobello sandwich with french fries and I ordered the whiskey creek burger with sweet potato fries (our favorite!!). The sandwich was spectacular!! It had aioli sauce on it with a portobello (duh), a hint of lemon and your usual lettuce and tomatoes. The sandwich had a really unique taste and all the ingredients worked really well together. It's one of the best mushroom sandwiches we had. My burger was just as fantastic too. Our waiter didn't ask how I wanted the meat cooked but it came out medium anyway, which is how I love it (with a little pink in the middle). Instead of your typical mayo, they used 1000 island which made the burger taste more yummy. The burger also had bacon and your usual toppings. I removed most of the bacon because I'm not a big fan of it but I did leave one strip on it because all the toppings together made the burger excellent. Our unsalted (by request) french and sweet potato fries were so crisp and delish! We wished the sweet potatoes were cut a little thicker though. Our waiter was very good too and surprisingly she brought everything we asked for even though she was very busy!
If you end up coming here without reservations, be sure to check the upstairs for open seating. The environment at the bar is way different than the downstairs area which seems more elegant. Upstairs it's more laid back with TV's all over the place, two pool tables, and a place to play darts. There's a stage area too that had drums set up and a DJ booth but both weren't operational when we were there.
I'd definitely come back here for their tasty food and nice ambiance :)
The perfect way to relax after a long day of boarding? Happy hour at Whiskey Creek. The scoop: go upstairs before 5:30 and everything is half off. Try a pitcher of beer, calamari, fish tacos, ribs with yummy corn mushy stuff, another pitcher, the seafood sampler, a couple of sandwiches, and you're all good. Does it taste good? At half off, hellz yeah.
Whiskey Creek is pretty good for moderately priced "upscale casual" dining at the mountain. They have a decent wine list, really good apps, and a fantastic flatiron steak dish w/ potaters and asparagus. Delicious. They also serve neverending fresh baskets of sourdough and olive bread. Pretty good selection overall of food as well as drink. After you eat dinner you can cruise upstairs (get there before the line forms though, even though you paid for dinner the bouncer gets all pissy and puts you in the line). Dudes pay $5, chicks free. Music goes from dancy DJ stuff (r&B, hip hop, some 80s) and then there is usually some schlock cover band on. But the bar scene is fun if you're in the mood for it...
As one of the first 'nicer' restaurants in Mammoth, Whisky Creek has been a place my family's eaten at for years. While it's no longer the only game in town (Nevados, Skadi, Lulus...and the list goes on), it's still worth going to. We're big fans of the happy hour menu (great sandwiches and bar food for half price), but the downstairs dining room menu is still as good as I remember it from family ski trips in the '80s.
Hands down my favorite restaurant in Mammoth. They brew there own beer and have live entertainment! I had the rib eye and it was cooked to perfection. The succulent Angus beef melts in your mouth and the Yukon gold mashed potatoes were a perfect compliment. Try the beer sampler to see which beer you like. Being a home brewer I have to admit that all their beers are excellent. Come here after a hard day of fishing or skiing and catch the happy hour from 5-6:30. Live entertainment starts around 9 pm. Definitely make reservations because this place does fill up!
as part of a "team building" weekend, my company made reservations for 30 people for dinner here. it would have been nice for them to accommodate as best they could so our "team" could sit "together". understandably, they had other large parties that night, but our group was spread over different tables and booths in the lower level of the restaurant. before we had even put in a drink order, a large table finished and left and we hoped to combine 2-3 of our smaller tables and use this bigger one, making us all a closer group- we were denied. so that sucked a little bit. i did however enjoy all of my food. the mac 'n cheese wasn't all too impressive, but i had to try it anyway. i did enjoy the curly Q noodles they used, but swapping it for potatoes on my plate didn't exactly mix well with the sauce on the plate for lamb, but that was my own mistake. after dinner we were informed our party needed to leave, because there were hungry customers waiting to be seated. not to be a jerk, but we were still ordering dessert, after-dinner scotches and cordials, and $90 bottles of wine. our bill was already in the low $2000 range and we weren't just sipping on free ice water at this point. we were practically forced out the door by the dirty looks given to us by the wait staff. so yeah, that kinda brought the night down a little bit... until we went and got drunk at another bar that was happy to rake in our company's money. to recap- the food was great, but the hospitality can use some work.
I like everything about Whiskey Creek. The restaurant has good food and service, a decent wine list and of course the Mammoth Brewing Company beers that are brewed in that same building. The bar is great for playing pool and socializing after work or skiing all day, and it's the best place in town to dance on Wednesday nights. The only catch to "Wild Wednesdays" is that it's only really fun during ski season when people are here (unless you'd rather have room to dance and don't care if it's with anyone else). All around a great place to hang out.
I wasn't terribly impressed with the food here. Granted, we ate bar food.
there aren't that many great places to eat in mammoth but wisky creek does alright.
