Well Hello, Whipped.  Welcome to the neighborhood!

I met a friend at this cute new shop this morning, because nothing says balanced breakfast like cupcakes!  The selection was small, consisting of  lemon, red velvet, and Phillie's chocolate cupcakes (more were being prepared while we were there, but I don't know if they were different flavors or what).   I got the lemon, my friend the red velvet.  They don't have seating so we took our cupcakes and coffee back to her house.  What they lack in seating (and variety) they make up for in quality.  The cupcakes were mega fresh (then again we got there as soon as they opened) and full of flavor with thick, rich icing that wasn't too sweet.  I'm a sucker for a fruity cupcake, and the lemon did not disappoint.  The red velvet was also amazing.  Stop by and welcome the cupcakes to Fishtown!

I must confess, I was a big fan of Brown Betty's cupcakes before but after trying cupcakes from Whipped Bakeshop...I might have a change of heart.  The cupcakes here are DELICIOUS!!!! The sizes are a little smaller than I expected but they make up for it in flavor.

My sister and I tried one each of the available cupcakes that day:  Chocolate cake with chocolate icing; chocolate cake with vanilla icing; red velvet; lemon cake with lemon icing.  My favorite, hands down, was the Lemon Cupcake with Lemon Icing...it tasted like a buttery pound cake with hints of lemon.  It was so amazing...the best lemon cupcake I have EVER tasted...not too heavy and not overwhelming in flavor.  My next favorite was the Red Velvet...extremely moist and the icing was just perfect.  (I actually like their red velvet over Brown Betty's).  The two chocolate cupcakes were also delicous...they almost had the consistency of fudge or brownies but was very light and fluffy (the vanilla icing was better than the chocolate icing).

I'm so glad I decided to venture out and try their cupcakes and I can't wait to go back and try more!

Slightly surprised by the high stars here.  I was looking forward to Whipped but was disappointed.  I got a cupcake whose name I unfortunately don't remember, but it consisted of vanilla cake, peanut butter frosting, and a chocolate covered banana slice on top.  The cake was just awful.  It had the texture and consistency and taste of two-day-old cornbread.  Really awful.  The frosting was good, though:  very rich and creamy, though the peanut butter taste was slightly understated and a bit too subtle.  I liked the chocolate covered banana slice.  It was fresh and was a nice touch.  Unfortunately, all of this can't doesn't make up for the huge letdown that was the cake itself.

Zoe's sweets are now available in her newly opened shop!  Apparently it is a LEED-certified building with a green roof and has an open kitchen so you can watch her do her magic.

I ordered a birthday cake from Zoe and now I can't wait until the next excuse to buy a cake arises. I gave her an idea of what I wanted and simply trusted her to make it happen, and she completely delivered, going beyond my expectations and creating a truly memorable cake that was raved about all week from friends and family. I've always been a fan of Whipped and if you want something that fully defies gravity and nature, Zoe can probably bake it. I highly recommend Whipped. It's quick, you can order through email, and your creation will be delivered on time.
