I am very tempted at giving these guys 5 stars because I find them way better than Pink Berry because they have more flavors are self serve and are not overrated like the name prior.

Another reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is because I'm picky on my flavors and I don't always like all 8 flavors they have in front of me. For example, I don't like the taste of Mango so automatically I won't be a fan but that is my problem and not yours. I learned to accept that not everyone has my same taste buds. I feel bad that you don't have my keen taste buds. (HA HA)

So my partner in crime in flavors come to this place and we always get a large. She likes tart yogurt and so do I and right now one of my favorite flavors over there is their pomegranate.  Not only that we get to put on our toppings and they have a myriad of things to put on top of our dessert snack.  I would recommend this place to anyone who loves yogurt. So good here.

Whimsical is one is the cutest froyo places I've been to.
While the decor is appealing with a modern edge, I found the flavors here to be muted (with the exception of the pumpkin which was blasting with rich pumpkin flavor) and a little flat.
There are 11 different varieties including chocolate for the chocoholics with ample toppings. I found the mochi was a bit more powdery than I would have liked and there is only one size (GIANT) to choose from. Since I don't live near by, I won't be breaking the tank to get back but I won't mind coming back if we're in the neighborhood.

I bopped into this cute frozen yogurt/gelato shop this evening after doing errands at The Plant. It had a warm & welcoming atmosphere with plenty of seating. The staff was fairly friendly.

They are a self service fro yo shop and you put your own toppings on as well. Sample cups were readily available and they didn't mind if you tried all the flavors if desired. They rotate their flavors and keep some basics each day-

Original Tart
Vanilla
Chocolate (which you can swirl w/vanilla if you want)
Not sure of others kept daily

Other Flavors Offered that I Tried Today:

Pomegranate
Cappuccino
Mixed Berry
Mango
Banana Creme Pie
Pumpkin Pie Spice
**All of the above that I tried were really good and the flavor in each definitely came through. The yogurt has a more creamy texture than icy for those who like that.

They had a variety of topping's of which were in dispensers on the wall behind the machines-most of these included cereals, yogurt & chocolate chips, chocolate rocks, strawberry krispies, etc. Just be careful and turn the knob on these dispensers slowly as the toppings come out fast and you don't want your whole yogurt & the floor covered in these toppings.

The rest of the toppings were before you got to the cashier on a covered island-these included fresh fruits (which looked and tasted really fresh), gummy bears, cheesecake bites, maraschino cherries, mocchi, nuts and much more.

That had lots of gelato flavors that looked really good, but I didn't pay attention to particular flavors, cost, etc. Maybe next time!

Price for fro-yo is $0.35/oz which seems standard these days at self service shops, so watch what you pile on if don't want sticker shock at the register!

Also ask for a frequent buyer card to be stamped at the register if you'll be in often, buy 6 get the 7th free! YAY, who doesn't like to get a freebie!

Overall, this was a fun fro-yo/gelato place w/tasty yogurt and toppings and I'll be back when I'm in the area wanting a treat!

There is only one word to describe this establishment: fun, friendly and fabulous!
The customer service is ridiculously uplifting, and if you ask them to look up the price of a yogurt machine, they'd be happy to do it! Unfortunately a yogurt machine just isn't in my budget at the moment, which is a bummer because I think it would have been an excellent investment, especially one like those in the store with multiple udders--but I digress.
They have so many toppings for my yogurt I could just pee everywhere out of excitement, but I refrain of course because that would just ruin the cleanliness. I mean really, they have like four different stations to pile on whatever you want!
Whenever I go in the store it is always spick and span, I feel as though I should lick the floor, because I wouldn't even get a disease, its so clean! I love it. The costumer service is the best costumer service I've ever experienced. And I've experienced a LOT of costumer service in my days ;)
I am a little upset about their favorite choices in yogurt, they are really bland and boring. But that's really the only complaint that I have.
CHANGE YOUR FAVORITE YOGURT TO SOMETHING MORE FABULOUS!
Oh I also really dig their Christmas decorations.

Oh where do I start?  I was not a fan of frozen yogurt until my sister took me here to Whimsical...WOW!  I am a reformed frozen yogurt lover and wish Whimsical was closer to where I lived because this place is soooooooooo good!

Definitely recommend as its clean, has a good variety of flavors/toppings and the service is friendly.  Also, if you go with non-fro yo lovers they have good gelato too!  :)

This is just a quick update to inform you fellow yogurt fans that Whimsical has now installed about 15 dry topping dispensers along their back wall. I didn't need to use these dispensers but I've seen the same dispensers recently at a new yogurt place and to be honest, they are quite impractical because they shoot out way too much topping--creating a huge mess. However, Whimsical has put up post-it notes warning to turn the knobs slowly to prevent this problem and hey, they look cool.

P.S. The yogurt is still on point and Whimsical is still one of my favorite yogurt places of all time!!!

It's like a Yogurtland with a nice layout, HUGE cups, and lots of toppings and flavors for the choosing.  I'm always conscious of how much I lay on in my cup for fear of putting too much in and spending a fortune, however with a $0.30/oz price for the fro yo, it wasn't too bad.

I ended-up spending about $4.50 (I was hungry) and gobbled down everything.  I'm not shy, I like me some fro yo ... well, anything sweet in general.

It's a bit of a hoof for us to get over here, so I'll probably stick with a Yogurtland or something of the sort, instead.

i was never a fan of frozen yogurt back in the old times... old times i mean like middle school for me, lol. my family had a yogurt shop and then yogurt, was pretty eww and boring, haha. but NOW, yogurt is a yummy, fun, fat burning (woot woot) treat you can enjoy anytime!

out of all the fro yo places suddenly booming nowadays, i love Love LOVE whimsical! the yogurt is yummy in my tummy, plenty of toppings and fresh fruits, and they serve gelato too. its self serve so you DIY, which i think is the best part of these fro yo places. you can have as much yogurt and toppings you'd like for your ching ching. they offer stamp cards too, which my bf and i use to share a cup yogurt and get 1 stamp, so now we get 2 cups and just get however much and whatever we want for our selves and can get 2 stamps, lol. gets me a free one quicker, sneaky me! hey, with the way the economy is going, a few couple dollars goes a long way kk. plus, this place is convenient to my home, is in the newer plaza which is a cool chilled place to kick'it, opens late and its clean. people that work there, and come here are nice too. =)

A+++ for whimsical!

After a good day of shopping in the plaza, what's better than to end it with fro yo? :D

Went in, got my cup, and looked at the flavors. I was really nervous to pick which ones to get since some flavors I have never tried, like "watermelon sorbet" or "pomegranate". They had sample cups on the glass thingy on top of the toppings, so getting sample cups were a breeze! The flavors tasted very good. Fro yo was icey but not too much. 4 stars for fro yo.

However, the toppings made my experience horrible. I was craving mochi for the past 2 weeks, so i was eager to pile my fro yo with mochi. The mochi was not fresh, it barely had any of the powder that made them not stick together. That meant, the mochi kept sticking together and I couldn't pull them apart! Ew!

They also don't clean the tubs containing the toppings or something, because the mochi tub was filled with nuts and chocolates...ew. What if you were allergic to nuts? That would have been so bad.
-1 star for toppings.

The service wasn't good. The girl there just seemed like...she was there. She didn't greet us, she didn't say anything while we were paying.
1 star for service.

However, I did try some of the gelato, and I must say it was pretty tasty and fresh!

If it wasn't for gelato and fro yo (not including toppings) this would have been a great place.

Since the last review, I've been here a couple of times. SOMETHING HAPPENED!? They've became the old nasty yogurtland. Yogurt here are no longer creamy and the flavors are awful... My favorite tart and pomegranate there have gotten completely disgusting nowadays. Their fruit topping are equally bad. Their mango chunks are huge and sour and their blueberries are over dated flat and sour. WTH happened to this place? I would not choose to come back if the old Whimsical don't come back :'( However, their customer service have gotten bettter.

It's about 9:45pm and as my friends and I crowd around the entrance, this big group of cops walk in and all got gelato. Cute. 15 minutes later, we see the cops bolting from the shop into their cars, scarfing their gelato frantically as they turned their sirens on and zoomed off. Crime fighting at its shining, honest glory. [/irrelevance]

After I witnessed that, I forgot about how fast my yogurt melted and segregated itself into pools of syrup and...liquid? Ew.

I love this place! The name is cute, the decor is cute, and it opens to to 10 or 11pm. Not only is the froyo good but their gelato is delicious and cheap. The froyo is 35 cents/oz and is the best self-serve place I've tried. The consistency is great, being neither too icey or creamy. It also stayed frozen for a long time! Their caramel machhiato is unique and actaully quite delicious as well.

As for their gelato, I'm very impressed! I like nuttier flavors and found their pistachio and hazelnut to be delicious! What is really great though is their gelatos are made fresh daily and at a surprisingly low price. Last time I was hear, I paid for a small and the serve piled on so much that I basically had a medium (which I gladly devoured) :)  Will come again and again!

They also offer a few games board games you can play while chatting it up with your friends though I think those games can be improved on.

EDIT: I didn't know this was sorta a chain and their opening one in Eastridge! Yay for being even closer by.

This place is average.  Their best flavor is the tart.  The other flavors didn't stood out.  Contrary to what people said, my yogurt's consistency was pretty good.  The yogurt was solid and didn't melt too fast.  The toppings are fresh, consisting of your average fruit toppings- strawberries, blueberries, mangoes, etc.

The gelato was ok too.  It's not the best I had, but certainly also not the worst.  They have some sort of coffee gelato flavor that might be the worst tho.  It's the most bitter gelato I've tasted, otherwise, the other flavors are fine.

Pricing isn't too expensive, or cheap.  We had buy one get one free coupons for the yogurt and gelato tho, so check their website.

my brother and his fiancee dragged me here tonight.  I'm not a huge fan of fro-yo, but the wife is so I picked her up some.

The selection of yogurts is pretty good.  10 are on tap with a variety of flavors.  They pour hella slow, not sure what is up with that.

The toppings is a decent selection of fresh and candied fruit, cereals, cookie crumbles and sprinkles.  You pay by the ounce which is cool.

Overall it would have been 5 stars if I had not been to Big Spoon in Orangevale, which makes this place look like its bare bones.  Also, they only have one size cup, which was annoying as not everyone wants 4 pounds of yogurt.  So for these two reasons, I've got to dock one star.  But still, it's pretty good.

For the past couple of weeks, I've been seeing comments on Facebook from friends about how they're madly craving fro-yo from this place.  So, of course, I got curious.  They have no locations in SF.  On my last visit to SJ, my friends take me to Whimsical.  I felt like I was on some sort of food tour this weekend because of all the new places I got introduced to.  This was the last and final stop for the weekend.

I LOVE that you can self-serve all the samples of fro yo flavors.  I think I got a little full just from trying all the flavors they had that day: caramel macchiato, pomegranate, tropical sorbet, plain tart, mango tart, Madagascar vanilla, chocolate shake, and one other flavor I can't recall right now.  I end up getting pomegranate and the plain tart and get the following toppings:  cheesecake bits, fizzy strawberry (which was like yogurt covered strawberry cereal), and waffle cone bits.  Upon weighing, my cup of yogurt cost $4.20.  I was pretty surprised at how inexpensive it was because in SF, that amount of yogurt would have probably run me over $7!  It was deeeeelish!  I was full from 1/2 of the cup, but since I'm a glutton and feel guilty for having leftovers, I made myself eat the rest. =)  I was still full from the great breakfast I had from Marie's Bella Cucina earlier that day.

I'm always up for some great fro yo on a hot day!  I'd definitely be back.

Whimsical Yogurt...is whimsical! Oohhh..I feel like I'm cheating on my Green Cup Yogurt! Oohh...tsk tsk me! :D

My boyfriend works near The Plant on Curtner. We love yogurt so we decided to give Whimsical Yogurt a try. We went on a Friday night around 8pm, and upon walking in it was packed. The size of the place is long but not long enough. The line curved so that we were standing right next to those eating..kind of uncomfortable because THEY can't enjoy their fro-yo. Needless to say, when it was our turn to pour our yogurt we were excited to choose from so many different ones. Every day they have different flavors. On this particular day, they had Pomegranate, Lychee, Original Tart, Mango, and a few others. Of course, I had to get Mango. :)

As the yogurt poured into my cup, I was satisfied by the consistency of the fro-yo--thick and not runny. As I approached the toppings bar, I was happy they had my usual fro-yo toppings--gummies, oreo cookies, mango, kiwi, strawberry, and pineapple. I know..I have been told that its pretty gross. Lol. But I love it! Mmmmm mmmm good!

At $0.35 an ounce, its a pretty good deal. With a good amount of toppings in both my yogurt and my boyfriend's, our total price was a little over $10. They do have a stamp card, so after I think 10, you get a free yogurt. Nice deal.

I am a fan, but Green Cup is still my ultimate fro-yo spot! I am and will continue to be a faithful customer. :)

After trying out many frozen yogurt shops, I have to admit Whimsical is top on my list. Their froyo is creamy, rich, and lightly tart.. depending on what type you get, certainly not icy like other places.

Today, I got my first FREE froyo for being a regular. They have a stamp card, after your seventh froyo or gelato, the eight one is on the house (10oz froyo or medium size gelato). Sweet.. literally!

Have I mentioned they have free Wi-fi there? They also have board games and cards for customer to play, simply ask the cashiers for them.

This place does alright. Doesn't really stand out in my book because there isn't that one factor that wows me above all the other generic yogurt places that are popping up like crazy. They have the same toppings and fruits aren't as fresh. It's nice that they serve Gelato and also change up their yogurt flavors, thus providing more of a variety of options. I always like to judge a place by their original tart, if they can't get that right, then the place doesn't rank high in my book. Their tart isn't all that great, taste like paste! The other flavors like lychee and peanut butter, much better though.

Well, I'm not a big yogurt fan but this one gets a nod for also selling gelato (for those that accidentally walk in and realize that oh crap! i don't want freakin yogurt). They do seem to have a good assortment of mix-ins though. Their gelatos are good even though I've had better. They do run out of the popular flavors so don't come here late at night. They also have coupons with killer deals.

I also like the ambiance here. It's got that Ikea-contemporary-asian-fusion-style going on. A big LCD screen TV and free Wifi make it a good place to get out of the house but still stay connected. What more could one need?

3.5 stars, but more on the 4-star side haha.  One of the better places.  Tart yogurt that's not too icy/frosty with an okay selection of toppings.  Their strawberry was weird though.. my cousin's was good, but mine was rotten?  I don't really know.  I had lychee and strawberry kiwi froyo; it was good!!  Def. something I haven't seen anywhere else.  My boyfriend liked the giotta (spelling?) gelato.  Prices weren't too bad.  2 yogurts and a medium gelato were about $10.  AND it comes with a frequent buyers stamp card!

Workers were friendly and helpful.  Free wifi is pretty cool.  So yes, 3.5 stars for now!

Good location for Whimsical and a great variety of flavors and toppings. I think it's a great neighborhood spot to chill and relax but nothing special. I tried several flavors such as the strawberry, honeydew and original tart. The 1st two tasted like medicine and I was smacking my tongue to get the taste out. The tart was your typical (probably YoCream) yogurt which everyone uses except Pinkberry, Fraiche, Red Mango and Harmony Yogurt. The place charges 35 cents an ounce and the price is definitely not bad after I loaded up on strawberries, blueberries, mochi, and tons of plain tart. If they can change their yogurt providers to a much better tasting one, that would be awesome. No complaints on their toppings and service is very friendly.

After the grand opening, the workers here grew a little less peppy and a little more sucky. Froyo in and of itself is just fine.

To the chubby white chick that sits behind the counter all day: are the tasks that are set before you so overwhelming that you have to sit down behind the register your whole shift? And is your social life in such decay that you must speak to whoever you're working with even when you're handling customers in order to quell the lack of friendship? What really made me annoyed is your sucky customer relations. I don't care if your co-workers messed up in stamping the extra "free" square on my frequent buyer card, give me my free froyo, not another frequent buyer card!

As for the rest of the workers, some of you are pretty amicable, but the rest just suck. How miserably difficult is it to manage the toppings bar, and conduct the cash register? You practically don't have to do crap. So put a smile on your face, make the world a better place.

I never got into the whole "fro-yo" craze. But I gave it a try at Whimsical, and I was pleasantly surprised. I like how this place doesn't charge you per topping, and only charges 35 cents per oz. They also allow you to sample the flavors before making your decision. Because of that, I was able to try quite a few flavors w/out having to commit to buying it. I likey.

The Good: Pomegranate & Raspberry, Kiwi Strawberry, French Vanilla, Banana Cream Pie, Lychee, Honeydew

Not so good: Cafe Latte, Mint Cream, Whimsical Tart

Unlimited toppings make me go overboard. Favorite toppings so far are the mochi balls, chocolate chips, crushed Butterfinger, cheesecake bites, mini caramel cups. I also like the granola and slivered almonds for a nice crunch. They have a stamp card also. My sister lives 5 mins away so I'll probably visit again soon.

My favorite frozen yogurt place to go to in San Jose (although once Yogurtland opens up on Aborn, this may become a different story...).
They have 12 flavors on rotation, I believe, and a variety of typical and atypical gelatos too (they had durian one time I had gone! Now that is adventurous. :)   ).
So far, I've only gone just for the froyo.
Their consistency is nice and creamy (which I suppose results in "melty" to some people.. but seriously, maybe you eat too slow. Or you pick flavors that aren't the best to mix. If anything, here's a tip: pick some toppings first. Yes, I know, toppings on the bottom? Bottomings? Whatever, it keeps it melting a tad).

All their flavors are yummmmm! ALL. I swear. Taro, passion fruit, honedew, cappuccino, Whimsical tart, acai tart, etc... Yes, my mouth is watering a bit now. -_-

They have a good variety of toppings. They have tons of fruit - and again, I have to use the word ALL, because ALL of their fruits (well, ok, besides the typical canned peaches and mandarins), such as strawberries, bananas, kiwi, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries..., are fresh fresh fresh! None of them look old, soggy, or gross. Good!
Mochi consistency is perfect.

Their interior is nice, clean, and playful in a way. Their tables rotate, which usually gets a kick out of people. They've got televisions and provide games for you to sit around and hang out!

Overall, it's a good spot to hit when hanging out with friends, especially during the summer season. (I also just love the shopping center this place is in. Well, not the parking - getting around the parking lot is somewhat annoying. This place has everything you'd want. Target. Toys 'R' Us. Best Buy. Rubio's. Ross. Panera Bread... and just much, much more!)

Like most froyo joints now, they have a frequent buyer card.
I'm due for my free one soon! :)

-different types of yogurt but minimal toppings, priced by weight

SURPRISINGLY: their gelato is actually good (and I'm picky when it comes to gelato's flavor & texture)
-gelato fav flavors: coffee break (tastes more like dark chocolate than coffee, texture=too icy), bonbon (tasts more like nutella, good texture), hazelnut(ok, but too sweet, good texture)
-indoore/alfresco seating

We're so addicted to this place!
Repeatedly, friends have told us how good it is at Whimsical.  So finally, we went last Friday, then Saturday, then Sunday, and most likely, tonight!

My wife and my two year-old love the yogurt!  And it's great for them to allow samples before you buy...so definitely there's no regretting what you got.  I like most of the flavors, but I like the Whimsical Tart the best.

I just wished they had smaller cups.  You can easily splurge with those large cups they provide.  But then again....that's probably the whole idea behind it =)

I really liked this place, but a recent visit had me very disgusted.

While eating my yogurt, I gaze around to the counter where the employees are at. It was slow at the time so they were just hanging out.

One of the people behind the counter took a spoon and scooped a sample of the Hawaiian Taro (If I can recall, I'm sure as it stuck in my mind seeing what was about to happen) flavored gelato. I said hey no problem, I would've done the same thing.

THEN WHAT HAPPENS NEXT SHOCKED ME

Instead of tossing the spoon that went into her (Yes, it was a female person) mouth--every inch and edge of that colorful little spoon, that is now covered with her saliva, and who knows what she has, does NOT go into the trash where it should be, BUT GOES IN FOR SECONDS BACK INTO THE GELATO!.

I cringe in amazement to see this unfold in front of my very eyes. I keep to myself like I did not witness anything, and see what unfolds.

The SAME SPOON goes in AGAIN, for a 3rd, 4th, 5th, and maybe even a 6th time! It was several times that I lost count.

There is no excuse for this. Even if it was at the very edge of the gelato., you are running a business that has health code violations, and this was a big one that was broken.

So who was this person doing it? Well she was an Asian female. She stood out from the usual 2 employees that are always behind the counter, because she was not wearing the Whimsical uniform. BTW, all the employees who work there have been great and very friendly. The person guilty of this act did not seem to be a regular counter worker. She seemed a bit older than the usual employees. It's not that shorter Asian girl who works the counter--she's much younger and shorter than the guilty person. Mid-late 20s perhaps, maybe management position--which would make this entire ordeal worse.

I'll continue going here, because well, the froyo is good, and I'm not disgusted easily. But it's still not excusable. Also this was with the gelato that I never get. So just be aware when you are getting gelato.. youll have a special ingredient in there.. saliva.

Another self-serve froyo joint...

They have these massive bowls waiting for you when you get down to the machines for you to fill up... I was trying to be a good kid so I didn't go tooooo crazy...

I got half coffee half vanilla... boring I know... considering they had lychee, pom, and strawberry but I wasn't in the tart mood.

Their fruit toppings look really good and fresh and there are a ton of different ones to choose from as well.  There are the usual goodies like cookie crumbs and graham cracker crumbs.  I got shredded coconut and called it a day.

After we paid by weight, I got my frequent buyer card, and stamps we sat down in the front by the gelato window.  All I know is I want... scratch that... NEED to go back and sample some of that gelato!  They have flavors like Hawaiian Taro which is screaming to be tried... all the gelato looks delectable along with the mint chocolate and the nutella varieties...

I think it was a great idea to put froyo in the plant shopping center since there's no good ice cream type places around there unless you're going to settle for a McDonald's cone... I'll be back gelato!

Whimsical...When I first heard about this place I was like this must be a non-chain Froyo spot, cause how the hell do you come up with a name like "WHIM-SI-CAL"...Sounds like something a kid would name his magical dragon.  I see no correlation between the word "Whimsical" and Frozen Yogurt.  Pink Berry and Tuttiemon I could see the correlation, but not Whimsical.  But yeah, aside from that...

35 cents an ounce for the self serve soft serve that gets weighed at the front by the register with all your toppings (I'm hoping they calibrated that scale to subtract the weight of the paper cup that the Froyo and toppings go in).  They have like 8 to 10 flavors of soft serve.  You can get the little shot sized paper cups to sample the flavor you want.  They also have like 8 to 10 flavors of gelato.  And they got around 30 toppings of fruits, candy, and nuts.

So I ordered 16.6 ounces of Vanilla frozen yogurt mixed with diced strawberries, mango, blueberries, kiwis, jelly fruits, some lyche looking fruit, etc. for $5.81 (no tax).

Fruit looked fairly fresh and well cut, but my only gripe would be that the blueberries still had part of their stems on them (but being the eater that I am, I could care less and ate the stems anyways).  Other than that, the toppings looked pretty clean and fresh.  And the frozen yogurt was tasty and solid for the most part.  Place looks pretty clean and trendy on the inside with some nice looking tables and chairs inside and outside.

3.49 stars...Not a big Froyo nut or expert by any means...But I was expecting a little more for how much I paid.

WHIMSICAL...Hahahahaha!

EDIT:

Ohhh...NM...Turns out Whimsical is an actual word.

From http://Dictionary.com:

*****

Whimsical
Whim"si*cal\, a. [From Whimsey.]

1. Full of, or characterized by, whims; actuated by a whim; having peculiar notions; queer; strange; freakish. "A whimsical insult." --Macaulay.

My neighbors call me whimsical. --Addison.

2. Odd or fantastic in appearance; quaintly devised; fantastic. "A whimsical chair." --Evelyn.

Syn: Quaint; capricious; fanciful; fantastic.

*****

So it's supposed to be like "FANTASTIC" Frozen Yogurt Gelato...OHHHHH!!!  DUHHH!!!

Oh god..this place..

so conveniently located near my house. Yet I'll still drive all the way to Cupertino for good fro-yo. I work at an extremely popular froyo place, so I know what's good or not...

So if you like "ice cream" fro-yo, this is your paradise. Their flavors are always on the sweet side, and when I say sweet, I see the sugar pouring out of the yogurt machines.. not literally, but with names like macadenian white chocolate you're kidding yourself if you think it's "healthy".

But even the signature "Whimsical tart" tastes funky. I love tart, but their's is sour! Sour milk status.

Toppings are... not so bad. Everything looks stale though, the cheesecake bites at Yogurtland are always kept frozen, but here they are gloopy from sitting all day pleading for people to save them from their misery....

In short, Whimsical is another copycat, trendy froyo store but it caters more to the "American" tastes rather than "Asian". The froyo tastes below-average, but isn't downright bad. Many people will probably like the artificial, creamy stuff, not to mention if this is your first time at a froyo store you'll be amazed by the self-serve system not to mention the plethora of toppings. They also serve gelato, and is conveniently located in San Jose in "The Plant" plaza, which is newly built and very nice, and close to my house so I go there a lot because of my family... I hate it every time though, haha. My friend works here so she gives me 50% discounts, but still....

not to mention their spoons are always scratched up..... Really weird.

Whimsical is a super cute froyo place with ample seating and friendly employees. It's a great little spot to pick up a nice cold treat after shopping in the plant. You really can't go wrong for 35 cents an ounce. Whimsical offers an excellent selection of toppings! My son was especially excited about the fruit selection. Everything was really fresh!

I sampled all of the froyo flavors, but only liked the vanilla and the honeydew. I have had better froyo, but will definitely return because of the convenient location. I will definitely come back for the gelato. The pineapple, strawberry, and chocolate gelato were all great!

The 4 stars is for the gelato.  I initially headed to the froyo like I usually do but after seeing the relatively "small" selection of yogurt flavors and the standard topping selection, I decided to go against my nature and try gelato.  I got the chocolate and caramel gelato half and half after trying those and the strawberry and the mango flavored gelato too.  Oh crap it was good.  I don't know if I ever will try ther froyo, considering it's 35 cents per lb which is average, but for what they are offering, it's not really up to the standard of their fellow froyo competition.  But gelato?  Not much local competition there...Red Brick...come on!...it's a freaking pizza place!

Come here for gelato and give it a shot...there's eight flavors to choose from...right next to Rubio's Baja Grill.

My Noah loves this place!!!! He makes his own crazy mix! They have alot of toppings .Very kid friendly!!!The gelato is made fresh everyday. Its true they dont have many flavors. But remember quality not quantity. They have a fresh fruit bar, really i rather go here than baskin robins or any other shop and eat old ice cream. The people are really nice.

try acai berry yogurt and green tea yogurt. And the double chocolate and mint Gelato!

In the words of Gordon Ramsay

'"WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?!"

Whimsical; The name sounds cute and makes you imagine little fairies dropping dollops of fresh and delicious yogurt. YUM YUM YUM!

However, this place is quite the contrary...The yogurt here is SOOO delicate and melts quicker than the polar ice caps. I sampled EVERY SINGLE FLAVOR and each one had a nice taste, but the consistency was very bad. Very runny.

The last flavor "Chocolate Milkshake" literally came out a liquid. No joke. It was NOT appetizing at all. But hey! They serve Gelato! Lets try some of that, shall we?

"Can I get a sample of this, that, and that?"

OH DEAR GOD! The so called "Gelato" has the texture of frozen CANNED whipped cream. It's truly disturbing. All the flavors lacked... FLAVOR.

However, I do give them credit for having the balls to make a Durian flavor. Which, by the way, tasted like a foot. But perhaps it's an acquired taste (which I'm willing to get used to).

The place itself is clean, the cashiers are very nice and the prices are relatively cheap. They have a decent selection of toppings and there's plenty of parking.

But on the basis of texture and consistency, this place fails MISERABLY. If the yogurt was creamier or more solid, I would rate it much much higher. They have a lot of flavors but the consistency impedes the experience.

I give Whimsical Frozen Yogurt and Gelato a well deserved 2.1 out of 5
