I came to get help with my Smart Drive from across the Bay (after having no luck with finding knowledgeable technicians closer), and the technician found and fixed things I did not know were not working until he fixed the camber, adjusted the brake and other things and suddenly the ride was smoother than I had previously known could be. He then made time to talk with me on the phone the next day (I had to leave before he could the day before) to educate me some do's and don'ts regarding wheeldchair repair so this neglect and maltreatment will not happen again when I get my mobility aid serviced.

I would like to say that I am extremely happy with the work that Wheelchairs of San Mateo did on installing my hand controls on my 2018 Lincoln Navigator. Antonio informed me of the procedure that he will be following to install these and verified with me that it meet all of the needs that I had described to him. Basically, I want the hand controls to work for me, but I also want anybody else to be able to drive the car and not have the controls getting in the way with anything they are doing.
The installation was difficult and the manufacture needed to be contacted many times to verify and validate everything was done correctly. This was the first installation of this control with this car for both the installer and the manufacture of the control.
There was never any complaints about the difficulty of the installation, the price for installation never changed, and the car was ready for me when they said it would be.Excellent customer service.
Take a look at these pictures as they did a great job and I highly recommend both of device and Wheelchairs of San Mateo.

They've installed hand controls in two vehicles for me. The second vehicle required some coordination because I had a deadline to install them before the holidays and didn't even have the vehicle (or the parts) in hand. They managed to take care of business!
I've been very satisfied with the quality of work each time. The controls work well and other than the extra bulk, the modifications look like they could have come with the car.
In terms of customer service, my only gripe is occasional phone tag and e-mail turnaround times. Once you get through, everyone is polite and professional. The folks in the shop are all friendly and I enjoy seeing them every time.
I find the shop's location in Burlingame to be very convenient. You can take two freeway exits nearby and both will get you over there without too many lights or traffic. The shop itself is tucked away and it's easy to miss the turn into the lot if you go too fast. The parking lot is small and sometimes crowded but I haven't had too many problems. There is one handicap spot right by the front door but given the nature of the business it's often occupied.
Something to keep in mind for planning: The car technicians don't seem to be there every day. If you need an installation and they can't finish it in one day you may have to wait until the day after next to get the work completed and the vehicle back.
I definitely recommend them for hand controls!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Janet W.San Francisco, CA213Apr 3, 2019
I got my hand controls for my car about two years ago. I've had one appointment with WCSM since the beginning, and they have been courteous, on time, and thorough. Today I needed an adjustment to the controls as our son had used my car and didn't get it quite right reinstalling the hand controls. Antonio took ten seconds to fix the problem and I was on my way. No charge! I love this place!

I had to fight really hard to get my chair. My insurance Kaiser refused to give me one. New Mobility up and fired their staff in Santa Rosa so I could not get assessed by them. The branch in San Jose was totally booked and was not thrilled about having to go all the way do to Campbell.
I called up Wheelchairs of San Mateo and got an appointment that was fairly close. I was assessed by the owner Antonio. He was very professional and answered all of my questions. There were many since this was my first chair. He was very willing to work with me understanding that Kaiser was not going to help. With their help I appealed to Health Plan of San Mateo (MedCal). After being told that I needed to Kaiser's appeal process first. I waited for their 3rd denial. Finally I appealed to MediCal and they approved it! They were very professional and patient.
Antonio and most of his staff being Salvadorian was an added bonus. Always wanting to help Latino run small businesses!
STRONGLY RECOMMEND
They have a very loyal customer in me!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Julie L.Pacifica, CA03Mar 6, 2019
Do not trust them! Antonio and Emily took a payment from us for a MediCal repair on a power wheelchair. First of all, the MediCal office told me that they are NEVER supposed to take money from a MediCal client. Then they did the repair, they billed MediCal, they collected the money and never reimbursed us. They won't answer my calls. They won't refund the money. They are crooks. Do NOT trust them. Go somewhere else.

Their staff is very nice, professional, affordable, and best of all they really know their stuff.
I was originally recommended to go to this place in San Jose, but their service was much MUCH to be desired and the distance was a pain(all the way in San Jose!). So I went to Wheelchairs of San Mateo and have yet to be disappointed.
They can be very busy at times though so make an appointment!Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Tony M.Daly City, CA022Jan 4, 2018
My family has been using this company for over 20 years. A little over a year ago the office manager and their head technician quit the company after years of working there. No one would ever tell us why they left. Well today I found out why. I brought my wife's Pride three wheel scooter in to have the charging system checked last week because it would die on her for no reason while she would be traveling and then it would work again after a few minutes of rest. I called up to see if they figured out what was the problem and the girl in Pittsburgh that answers the phone said she would find out for me. I asked her for the direct line to the Burlingame shop so I could talk to the technician myself because I could tell she was not a technician and was a phone operator. She would not give me the # so I just went down there myself to talk to the guy. He said he needed another day to check it out and he would call me. So today he calls me and says that I need two new batteries and a charger. They wanted $316.00 for two batteries and $200.00 for the charger. So I told him to go ahead and change the charger but I would buy the two batteries from somewhere else for half the price that they wanted. He then tells me that he already put the new batteries in the scooter because he had to to find out if the charger was working properly. I told him it was not my problem if they didn't have to correct tools in their shop to check the charging system on my scooter and I was not going to pay their price for their batteries. He then tells me that they can't replace the charger if I don't buy their batteries from them. He said to send him a copy of another companies quote for the price of the batteries and he would give me a discount on his price of the batteries. So I went online to the Pride companies website for the batteries and I sent him a copy of it. He then tells me that these batteries they are selling are made in China and are no good. I told him that I don't care if they were made in Vietnam, They were $149.00 for BOTH batteries and half the price of theirs. So he finally said unless I buy the batteries from them I need to come and pick up the scooter because they will not work on it. So I said fine, and then they tell me I have to pay them for an hours labor because they installed the two batteries that I never ordered. I just said screw it and paid the $100 that they wanted for ransom to get my wife's scooter back. Please be very careful if you take anything to these crooks for repair. Jose would have NEVER screwed me like this guy did for a few lousy dollars. Now they will NEVER get another dollar from any family member of mine. I have a brother that is paralyzed and has also been going there for ever and he will never do business with these crooks again either. I put one star down because that is the lowest yelp will let you go. Be very careful seniors, because they only care about making commishion on the sale and not your best interest. As you know already it is not cheap keeping up a handicap vehicle. By the way the guy that tried to screw me on the batteries name is Antonio. Don't let him try to BS you on the price. He will if you let him. I'm writing to the BBB tomorrow also about these crooks

I called this place with regard to their shop in Pittsburg. Antonio was not very nice. I had called him to do some work on a brand new Ti Lite the second week in December and he quoted me a price and said I had to make an appointment. So, I called today to make the appointment and he would not honor his previously quoted price and told me that it could cost more. He was also kind of rude. He cut me off while I was talking. I would not recommend this business.
