A superior wine shop. The whole staff is comprised of wine snobs and I mean that in the best way possible, they are extremely knowledgeable. They will greet you when you walk in the door and answer any questions you might have. Every time I've gone in they are doing a wine tasting so it's also a great place to learn something. I would estimate that the majority of their wines are in the $20 plus range but they also have a good selection of less expensive wines
The selection is mostly French so you this isn't necessarily the place to go if you're looking for a large selection of oaky California chardonnays but it's absolutely the spot to go if you want to impress a date. You could take your date to the shop and taste some wines or you could show up at your date's place with a bottle in hand, either way you'll score points. -

Snob-o-rama! In my ongoing attempt to support local businesses, I've been to Weygandt a few times. The last time I was in there will be my last time period.
I always thought the workers were quiet, but it turns out that they're actually just big snobs. They were having a wine tasting, and one of the wines was a muscadet, which resembles the word "muscato," so I asked if a muscadet is like a muscato. The guy with the lazy eye gave me a look like I'm the biggest moron in the world and laughed the word "no." Then he condescendingly explained that they're different grapes from different regions. Then the woman with the pompous accent said, in the most stuck-up tone I've heard since high school, that "many people make that mistake." Well, excuse me. I have a real job, so I don't have time to care about your overpriced wines that all taste the same anyway.
I will give three stars, though, because they have a decent selection of moderately priced wines. And the taller balding guy has been helpful in the past. Even so, I'll never go back.Comment from Tim O. of Weygandt Wines 2/6/2012

Although we are not frequent visitors to Cleveland Park, Weygandt Wines is certainly reason enough to alter neighborhood travel patters. With great selection and very helpful owners, our visits to Weygandt are always educational to our new world-dominant wine palates. Recommendations received typically pan out to be quite likeable. Time to open another one of these establishments--near us! I can't wait for my next lesson in old world wines.

Does anybody remember an ESPN show called "Stump the Schwab?" It was a game show with three contestants vying to stump a Kevin Smith look-alike who was a sports statistician. He knew just about everything you wanted to know or didn't want to know about every major sport. Schwab, a real ladies man I'm sure, was almost impossible to stump no matter what was thrown at him. This is my challenge when I come into Weygandt Wines. I call it Stump the Wine Wizard. Except, I'm not dealing with just one wine guru, I'm dealing with anyone who works at the store.
Everyone here is so knowledgeable about wine and incredibly friendly. No matter what way I try to stump them (I need a red wine, good with Indian food, under $20 Go!) they always help me pick out the perfect wine. They have a small selection of refrigerated wines if you are on your way to a party and a surprising amount of affordable wines for a specialty shop. They have wine tastings everyday and seem genuinely happy to help you find the perfect bottle. I'm not a wine connoisseur so I doubt I will ever be able to stump them but I enjoy finding reasons to try. -

This is a great wine store, one of my favorites in D.C. The inside is clean, well-lighted, and the staff are very helpful. I am a big fan of rieslings, and Weygandt has a pleasantly large selection of these. The selection is limited to wine, and even in wine I think they have fewer options than some stores--I think this is because they carry fewer generic, uber-cheap, inferior bottles (read: Fish Eye, Yellow Tail). This doesn't mean that they don't carry good wines in the under $10 price point, however!
I signed up for their newsletter. I like the information, but for some reason the formatting is always terrible when viewed in Gmail (not sure for others). Perhaps they can consider fixing this? -

Dear Tony (wine-master at CP Liquors):
I don't really know how to say this. I've become enamored with another wine proprietor. I know we had a strong relationship but...his store is just, well, better. Plus, they have an actual tasting bar as opposed to doing tastings out of a solo cup in the middle of the whiskey aisle in your spot. Also, there are tastings every night and every Saturday -- and the weekend ones are absolutely worth attending as they put on sale (usually) a host of great wines. Look, it's nothing against your store, I'll still be by to pick up beer and liquor. I'm sorry that it had to end like this and I hope there aren't any hard feelings.
Sincerely,
Jon -

Peter Weygandt is easily in the handful of best importers in America. If you are looking for a large selection of fairly priced wines that come from individual's who eke out a living through the earth this is the place for you! Granted the selection is primarily Old World and mostly French this by no means that there is not something you won't love, just ask for a suggestion. The styles range just like any other wine shop from fruity, big Languedoc reds to earthly Pinot Noirs to crisp wine wines to full-bodied oaked Chardonnay. If you must have that Cali Cab then there is a well selected portfolio of wines outside of Weygandt's own that have been brought in to satisfy your new world needs such as some killer Malbecs. Friendly staff and on the weekend's and even some weekdays there is always something to taste. Did I mention there is an entire display of under $15 wines of which I have enjoyed anything I've picked.

Wonderful wine shop! The gentlemen that work here are helpful and always help me find exactly what I am looking for. I am always impressed with the service and of course the tasty wine! Love the layout of the store; open and airy and you can feel at ease when you are browsing. Definitely stop in if you're in Cleveland Park.

I checked out Weygandt on Saturday during their first weekend open. I was very impressed with the store, staff, owners, selection, and presentation. The store is very welcoming and nicely organized. I like that the wines are stacked in boxes instead of shelves- it gives a fresh from the winery type feel, like these wines came straight to the store! The tasting bar is awesome and spacious. We tasted some great wines from Austria on Saturday.
I spoke with one of the co-owners and he helped me pick out a great wine to go with a dinner I was cooking that night- a Gruner Veltliner from Austria to go with cod and swiss chard. It was fantastic!
Many of the wines are priced at more than I'd typically spend for on a regular day, but they still have some great values. It's a really nice place to go and learn more about wine and have a selection unlike any other in the city. I look forward to their weekly tastings! -

Great wine selection, not as many choices as others by any means, but a well thought-out inventory of uniformly excellent wines. If you're tired of the weekend crowds in some of the other wine/liquor stores nearby, Weygandt's offers a knowledgeable staff and a more relaxed civilized setting for browsing and tasting wines . If you are a neighbor, or are just passing through Cleveland Park, you should give it a try.

My kind of wine shop, these people know what they're doing. Excellent selection of all kinds of tasty wines. The staff is amazingly knowledgeable and friendly, and willing to spend as much time as you need to find the right wine, whether it's for a certain occasion or to go with a certain meal. Good prices, and they have a bar for tastings. I could spend hours here, poking around and learning about the wines. We popped in on New Years Eve to get some bubbly and came out with a half case of all sorts of great stuff. A total pleasure.

Best wine selection I have found in the area. By this I do not mean the place is big, or has the specific bottle you are looking for. Instead they are a small shop full of great wine. I sincerely doubt the owner sells anything he has not tasted and liked. Good service, great wine!!!
