During my recent trip to Kauai, I had my first-ever experience with SCUBA diving. Mike, our instructor (who sometimes refers to himself as "Mother Duck," which we dirty-mindedly evolved to "Mother Ducker") was an absolutely wonderful guide and teacher.

Rather than taking a boat ride out for our first dive, my girlfriends and I just walked right into the water at Koloa Landing. The reef there was amazing... full of sea turtles, octopi, pillow sea stars, sea slugs, eels... all kinds of wildlife. We played around for about an hour down there.

I left this dive very appreciative for what Mike had taught us in such a short period of time, and especially appreciative that he left me with a really strong desire to get out there again! This dive made me wish the conditions were a little better at home in San Diego. I'd love to get certified, and might just do so before my next trip to the Aloha state.
