I'm on the east coast for a few days, so I might as well put my free time to good use....

The Westfields Marriott is my favorite place to stay when work takes me to the Washington Dulles Airport area.  New construction in the Georgian style, with a cavernous lobby/lounge area.  Like most hotels,  it has free WiFi in  the lobby and $10 in-room wired connections.  In this case, the comfy furniture and waitress ready to take our drink order makes the lobby a nice place to check email, post Yelp reviews, or whatever.  All that's lacking is some decent music (Hotel Costes, anyone?)

The bar itself is a new-but-very-old-looking dark wood affair where I half expect George Washington to be walking through the door any minute (...errr....how many martinis is this?)

The guest-rooms have very high ceilings that minimize that pigeon-hole feeling and have decent quality furniture in the colonial style, I think  (but what would I know, I'm from L.A.).   Between the furniture, wallpaper and crown molding, it really feels more like you're in an old east-coast home than a hotel.

Like most hotels of this sort, the restaurant is OK, but overpriced. Since this is also a resort, they have a golf course and spa.  I can't really offer any opinion on the golf course, since I don't golf myself (....way too slow....if I'm going to hit a ball with a stick it will be from horse-back, thank you very much).  As for the spa, ....hmmm....does a massage count as a business expense?

I really didn't like the layout of this place. Calling it a resort is a stretch I think. You have to walk what seems to be an eternity from the parking lot  to get to the main entrance. Interior decor is rather elegant and classy. The exterior has that nice old south look....if that makes any sense.

I've been here for a graduation and outdoor wedding and reception here. Staff is very friendly and helpful. They were able to give us a great deal on our event package, since we had to plan it out rather quickly.

Personally, I can't say I'm a fan of this place, but it's not bad at all. I was clearly the minority, because other people seem to love it.
