I have to admit outright that I was both an intern here and volunteer as a docent. Perhaps you could consider this a sort of insiders review. I have unendingly good things to say about the Westcott house, its staff and volunteers. These are some of the nicest and hardest working people I know. The house itself is gorgeous and beyond that, fascinating. I know a lot of people are interested in Frank Lloyd Wright as a person, and he personally included the Westcott house in a portfolio he compiled of his most significant works. The house features many Japanese influences...my favorite being the lighting on the first floor which looks like little glowing japanese houses.
This house is particularly beautiful at night, and while there are no tours at that time many of the cultural and fundraising events do occur in the evening. I have always had an absolute blast at these events...like the Frank Lloyd Wright birthday party they have every summer that features a big band and a live auction.
If you are a fan of architecture, history and/or Frank Lloyd Wright you don't want to miss this wonderful restoration. We're so lucky this house didn't fall beyond repair. -

If you love architecture, this is your place to go. It's a must see for Ohioians and architecture lovers. Sometime in the 1930's/1940's the home was divided up and made into apartment units, so a lot of the original design was lost.... The Frank Lloyd Wright home was a multi renovated project a few years ago and looks very similar to what it would have looked like in the early 1900's.I believe that the house can be rented out for large party events and there are daily tours of the home. I recommend going before the Christmas season as they hike up the admission prices. I try to go back to the Westcott home twice a year to see the FLW home.

The Frank Lloyd Wright Westcott House is a 100 year old treasure. The tours begin with a great 8 minute video that tells visitors about the painstaking restoration work. It is truly believable that they were able to restore this house and make it, with as much original material as possible, into its 1908 look. There is a 2 hour for sale in the gift shop that explain the restoration even better.
The house itself is an excellent example of Frank Lloyd Wright's prairie style and the docents are very knowledgeable. Many of Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural ideas were first tried in the Westcott House. The house features strong horizontal lines, many Japanese features, and a stained glass skylight. There is also a beautiful garden.
A part from the house it is also interesting to learn about the first owners, the Westcotts and their automobile factory. This house is worth the drive for anyone and if you travel on I-70 you should definitely make a stop.Listed in: My Neighborhood

This is a must see. The home was built in 1908 and made into apartments sometime around 1945. Our docent told us that it was renovated back to the way Frank Lloyd Wright had designed, which was difficult because of the apartments. The Westcott Foundation has done a great job with the restoration and the gift shop is very nice. In one of the reviews it was stated they raise their price of admission during the holiday. I don't think they do but call first. This house is well worth time time to go through.

Been here so many times and it's just great to know so much care has been put into a National treasure right here in town. The amazing skill of Frank Lloyd Wright never gets old with his oriental influences, symmetrical design, and perfect use of space.
If you enjoy architecture, this is worth a decent drive. The Westcott house, although not Wright's best work, is a great historic piece that has been restored so well. -

I am so impressed. I am impressed not only by the design of FLW (still modern even though it was designed in 1908), but by the restoration. This landmark was chopped into ugly apartments in the 80s and renovated from deterioration in the early 2000s. The community group did a wonderful job. Please GO if you are in the area!

The Westcott house is very interesting if only for its history from when it was built till now. The house itself is amazing. The fact that they literally rescued this house says a lot about the Foundation and the city. In your Frank Lloyd Wright adventures this should be one of the top 10 stops. The video is very key to understanding the history of this house. PBS sometimes runs a special for like 2 hours about this particular house and its renovations too. Go check it out and be in awe of the way people were able to build nearly 100 years ago.
