Night golf! Thats the jam at this place. Come on a weeknight after sundown, for a nice $10 round of 18 holes. Thats almost 50 cents per hole!
This course is in surprisingly good shape for a public course. The greens aren't terrible, but can be a little bumpy if they are undergoing aeration. The course is pretty wide open without many trees guarding the fairways, which means if you slice (like I am known to do quite often), you will easily find your ball in a neighboring fairway instead of losing it in the trees.
When I've been, the staff has all been friendly and the other patrons have as well (which is rare to find on LA public courses). I'm only giving it 3 stars because it isn't really a challenging or particularly interesting course. That being said, its cheap, great for practice, and can be an awesome evening activity if you're into that sort of thing. -

This is a nice little course. On a weekday, you can play as a single and there's almost no wait. I'm not an elite golfer, so to be able to take my time and work on a few things is a real treat. The other bonus is they have lights so at this time of year, you can drop by if you have an early day of work and squeeze in a round. I'll definitely be dropping by again.

I used to love this place when it was 15 holes and now it's 18 and I still havn't played them all. Used to love the Spicy Dog at the turn but they have somehow deceided not to serve it anymore, tragic. The range is pretty good, wish they took marking the distances more seriously, but you can hit off the grass usually on Fridays and that is huge. Good putting greens and practice area.

I've been curious what it would feel like to tee off. Yeah, I admit. Although I know how golf is played by the book, I've never actually tried it! In the game of golf every stroke that you take and the club that you use to "sink the putt" plays a crucial role in winning the game. Not many of us had experienced playing golf or had been to golf courses.
But if you are like me, who was curious about the game and is anxious to try how it feels like to tee off, then drop by Westchester Golf Course. This 18 hole par 64 golf course is open daily and very affordable. It is near LAX airport and closes at 10 pm.
Westchester Golf Course is a great place to start if you want to learn how to play the sport. From beginners to avid golfers this place have so much to offer. I had my first lesson of golf in this place for I had the opportunity to grab a this coupon from http://www.Stretche.com: http://stretche.com/bu...
That coupon offered the fist lesson for free!
Back then, I didn't really have the knowledge about golf as a game but I was very curious how it feels like to play the game. When I found the coupon i grabbed the chance to try it and to satisfy my curiosity... and guess what? I love golf! After that first free lesson, I signed up for more lessons at the Westchester Golf Course! -

4-19-11 Another lesson with my great instructor, Bobbie Riggs. I feel so much more confident each time she helps me out. She is so patient and loves it that I am enthusiastic about learning, even though I'm not very good.
Today we tried out a couple of different clubs, and I slammed one over the mound with the driver!! First time I had used it! It was so encouraging. I am making tiny little bits of progress each time, but Bobbie said she doesn't think it will be long before I'm on the golf course. Yeah right... well, I'm aiming for that! And having fun trying.
It was blissfully cool this morning. Now I understand why golfers golf at 7 a.m.!!! It gets hot pretty quickly.
I'll be BAAAaaack!!Listed in: Just hit the ball, please...

Review from Lucy Y.
Los Angeles, CA
After one single golf lesson, it seems that Laura D and I are both hooked. So hooked in fact, that two days after said lesson, we're checking out a new driving range and hitting a bucket of balls!
We got here a little after 6pm on a Sunday, and went to the pro shop to get what we needed. After confessing our newbie-ness, the pro shop guy good-naturedly sighed and feigned boredom as he told us how it works here:
* Pay him for the balls (we chose 100 for $9)
* Take our ticket with the code number to the ball machine
* Put a basket under the chute and punch in said code number
* Pick a deck or grass area and whack away!
He also gave us a brochure with group class prices and a schedule. The prices look pretty good - $99 buys you 4 group lessons and a $20 credit on a range key (I guess it's like a swipe card).
The classes are all numbered from 1 to 16, and increase in difficulty and details, starting from Putting and ending with Course Strategy.
Cool!
After we got our bucket of balls, we chose decks. We didn't realize that we needed little rubber tees to put in the deck, and were about to walk back to the pro shop to get a couple ($1-ish each). But the generosity of a couple of friendly golfers next to us saved us a walk back. Nice!
As the sun was setting tonight I practiced what I learned in my first lesson, listened to the birdies chirp, and watched other (obviously more seasoned) golfers. The only other driving range I've been to is the Long Beach Golf Learning Center, which has auto tee machines. I could definitely get used to the auto teeing in LB, but since this location is closer and has these comprehensive (and reasonably priced) classes, I likely will be back here more often!Listed in: Golfing Newb

I've played golf here twice now and both times were pretty good experiences, even with some of the issues we had.
The only issue we had with the first round was that it was backed up a little but then again, most places in SoCal on the weekends are backed up.
The 2nd time we played, which was this past weekend, we didn't tee off until almost an hour of our original tee time. That being said, once we were on the course, it flowed pretty nicely.
The fairways are very forgiving here so if you're practicing or just beginning, this is a great course.
Overall, great exec/full course hybrid to play a round. -

I am a beginner golfer and broke as hell. This place is obviously not the Pebble Beach of Westchester, but who cares! It's an easy golf course, well priced, and has an awesomely fun driving range and great putting area that makes the pricier and even uglier golf courses (i.e. Rancho Park in Century City) look like shit! Also you get much more for your bucket of balls here, unlike Rancho.
If you are just as broke as me, then go and play some night golf for 13-14$ after 7:00pm (they shut off the lights at 10:00, so you have plenty of time!) -

I've been here twice now, and while I am a newbie to golf, I gotta say this is a pretty decent course. Parking is very simple, right off fo Westchester, and they have 2 large greens where you can practice putting.
The course also has night lighting. I believe they are also currently remodeling (is that the correct terminology?) some of the holes. -

This is a nice spot. They have plenty of mats for you to get your drive on PLUS on the weekends, you get to swing on the grass which in most cases is actually better for your practice.
It stays open pretty late which is 10PM. Prices for balls are pretty average for the area. I got here pretty often and save 25% on balls if you buy the $100 package.
The mats are kind of run down a bit and some of the rubber tee holders seem to not fit your rubber tees for some reason. Most of the mats need to be replaces and/or cleaned more regularly but then again, you're mainly just trying to practice your swing. And if you really want to practice, show up on a weekend (including Friday) -

I've been coming to Westchester for a few months now to add some variety to the (public) courses I play. For the price I think its a very good deal. They have discounted rates for twilight and night time (the course is lit), but either way its pretty inexpensive...plus they have motorized golf carts.
The driving range prices are good (read: cheap) There is always a spot open and on weekends you can actually hit from the grass which is cool. They also have a chipping and putting area.
Biggest drawback is that it can get a bit backed up and busy on weekend mornings. -

I played the back 9 for $10 and I got more practice in than if I would of bought a large bucket. Yes I only played 9 holes but I was alone out there so I played 4 balls. Great spot to practice before you spend the big bucks at the nicer courses during the weekend. Holes 15, 16, 17 are clearly the best holes on the back 9 and probably the whole course. I want to try playing under the lights but I'm sure all that is out there at that time is just a bunch of hacks.

Super twilight at Westchester starts at 7pm. $10 for however many holes you can complete before the lights turn off at 10pm sharp. It's hard to finish more than 13 or so, when you have some jerk-offs in front of you not respecting the game.
Playing at night, under the lights, really exercises your eyesight. Depth perception is really hampered, making it really hard to score. Putting is also more difficult under the artificial lights.
Kudos to the Marshall, who drove around reminding all the late night golfers that the lights were about to go out.Listed in: Golf Courses in Southern…

Where else can you play night golf on a full course in LA? Yes, there are actually lights on this course than allow you to play until 10pm. It's actually a fun thing to do in the summer. It's always cool to play a full round of golf after a hard day at work!
As with all public golf courses in LA, play here is slow. However, that's just something that must be accepted if you want to hit the links. Also, this is one of the few courses in the area that has a grass driving range (only open on the weekends). If you really want to become good at golf, you need to avoid practicing on artificial range mats!Listed in: Golf LA

Probably the worst golf course of all time...where's the grass?
The range sucks too...mats keep getting worse, balls get more expensive
The only 2 reasons I gave it 1 star is:
1) you can't give something 0 stars
2) online you can play for $8 after 7pm including a small bucket of balls
It's amazing that all the money that comes into this place doesn't go towards maintaining it -

I reeeeaaaally like this driving range. It's got probably about 30 stations, a bunch of racks for your clubs, benches, a little dispenser to wash your clubs, and pretty nice balls. I mean you gotta have shiny, nice, white balls.
Anyway, if you want to hit off of the real grass, make sure to bring your own tees... I totally didn't even think of that until I grabbed my club and was like, oh... I don't have a tee. But I managed to scrounge up a couple around my station.
A medium bucket only lasted me about half an hour, which was $5. I would recommend going for the large bucket if you are serious about hitting balls, since it's only $8 and double the amount. -

Eh. I've seen a lot better ranges. I guess i'm a little picky because the man gets free golf at any American Golf Course. I do like that the driving range is nice and open, but the parking lot is pretty busy and so is the course. On the weekends the course is packed and even on the weekdays, you have people not really moving along very quickly. If I was to choose a course in this area, I would probably go with The Lakes, I really like that place. Nicer, calmer and pretty big for a 9-hole course.

Wow this course gets a lot of play. Short par 4's and nice par 3's. Westchester Golf Course is right next to LAX, so you get plenty of jet noises during your round of golf. But this golf course, despite not being in great condition and not having the greatest of facilities is actually very, very cozy.
There's always a nice ocean breeze going through the course. You can feel the salty air as you tee off. The people who frequent the place is a great mix of the South Bay and the Westside. I noticed there's not a golf for people to play in West LA except for Rancho Park, which can get kind of crazy.
A nice spacious range, a somewhat small putting green and even a sandtrap are places newcomers to the game can work on their game. The range is kinda short though and I can hit driver over it. But I have never seen a sign there that says, if you hit over 250, please refrain from using your driver.
Anyways, the course is really flat. The 2nd hole and the hole with the big tree in it (not sure) are pretty exciting. There's a lot of space to hit your driver in case you're wild off the tee. Example, there was commercial being shot there. I hit a tee shot wild, about thirty yards left into another fairway. The crew, the actors, everyone was giving me hard time about the tee shot. But though I was in another fairway, I had a clear shot of about 150 yards for my approach. And just like in the movies, I fired a 9 iron straight at the green, it stopped on a dime and spun backwards for 10 feet and straight into the cup for an eagle 2. Everyone who witnessed the shot were going crazy. I said from the top of my lungs, "Film that bitches!"
I love golf, game of gentlemen. Play this course...fun and not hard. -

My teenage son and I thought Brenton Chan was an amazing teacher! We appreciated his innovative teaching style, using an Ipad2. He used the video clips of my son to explain to him where he needed to adjust his shot, and continued to take intermittent videos, so by the end of the lesson we could see the difference in his stroke. Before the lesson, my son did not understand the importance of the specifics of a golf stroke but he certainly did after.
Brenton, clearly plans out his lessons, taking a couple of steps at a time so my son was not overwhelmed. Brenton, was even willing to go over the time allotted to make sure my son was taking things at the pace that was right for him, and he didn't even comment on it. Brenton, proved again how conscientious he is by making sure to let my son use the balls he paid for in his basket, while Brenton used separate balls for teaching. He was also very generous with his knowledge telling us little extra tips he had learned over the years. We both left, extremely impressed. We thought he did an outstanding job. I would highly recommend him. -

For the price, this is a great course. Only 15 holes and a cute (yes, I said cute) executive course near LAX. This is a great place for beginners and pros alike. I've been playing for almost 10 years and recently took my 9-year old stepson for his first round of golf ever. We were paired with two gentlemen who play there often and they were fantastic with him.
The shop was patient fitting him with clubs and very helpful with tips on the course. We did have to let one group play through, yet didn't feel rushed.
Pros: good price, easy to get on without a long wait, clean fairways
Cons: can't think of any for the price -

Pros:
-Never too crowded [range or course] even on sunday mornings.
-Relatively cheap [especially if you reserve on a discount website]
-Pace of play goes pretty fast
Cons:
- Short course = sometimes waiting for the group ahead
- Narrow fairways on a course that switchbacks end to end means if someone has a big slice they are in your fairway, playing the opposite way to get back onto their hole.
All in all- not bad! Only 15 holes [they sold the last 3 to LAX] and on a recent sunday we got through all 5 in about 3 hours. Worth it for a quick fix if you don't have access or money for an expensive course. -
Review from Julian E.
Culver City, CA
I've played this course about once a month. It's always been a decent course, but with the extension to a full 18, that's definitely a much needed improvement. It's close, cheap, and gets the job done. Of course, they stack up 5-somes, when they can, and it's difficult to play on weekends. However, a few months ago, something happened that will now prevent me from ever returning.
We had booked a tee time on a Saturday. Upon check in my group was informed that they are running late and we would have to wait. This was of course after they collected all our fees including cart rental. After 30 minutes of waiting to tee off and them adding another person to our 4-some we decided to instead go to Carson.
My friends all got their money back but my genius self decided instead to get a round of complimentary play instead, as was suggested by the manager. I figured I come here once a month, I'll use it next time.
Some difficulties occurred and I was unable to play golf for a few months, when I noticed the card had an expiration date.
I went back to the the course and asked if they could extend it, and was flatly refused. I then spoke to the manager who repeated this. But not just that, this person became absolutely belligerent when I asked him if it was "fair" that they just keep my money. I asked him to calm down so that we could have a civilized conversation. He claimed it was like a gift certificate that "expires", so I reminded him that legally gift certificates cannot expire in the state of California.
That's when I got an "extension", begrudgingly. This guy was supposed to be the manager and he almost looked like he was going to assault me for using a word called "fair".
WHAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I never expected to be treated this way. Most importantly he probably failed to realize that when I do play, I bring 3 friends... not anymore.
This place is not worth it, atleast until they replace the management.
I tossed my extension, on my way out, never again. -

As a South Bay resident, I really wanted to like this course. It's close to home and relatively cheap. Bad news is, I didn't even finish my round today because there was a fivesome in front of us that caused us to lose most of our day on the first 10 holes. The fairways are incredibly narrow, and you can hear "FORE!" the entire time you are on the course.
Greens/Fairways - bone dry, tons of dirt with no grass at all
Course layout - way too narrow; rule states off 1st tee "You may NOT play from another fairway, this is NOT an option" - however there were many holes we played where players were on our fairway, playing BACK to their own hole's fairway/greens.
Other players - slow play, non-rule observing, many many errant balls.
For a much better short round, I recommend The Lakes at El Segundo.
I really really wanted to like another course close to home!! -

WARNING: The opinion of a lifetime golfer who is absolutely horrible at golf and simply likes to go to have a great time with the pals.
The best part about this golf course is the $9 twilight or night golf rate. Starting at 7 pm or 7:30 pm (depending on the season). You can't really find a better deal anywhere. Remember, it's only $9 so don't get your hopes up, the holes are very short, you might be hitting off dirt half the time and if it gets crowded at night, it might be a little dangerous with the narrow fairways side by side. But who doesn't want a little danger when they golf right?
If you're simply looking for a cheap way to have a good time with some friends and hit a few balls without the pressure of golf pros everywhere, this is spot to go. Did I mention it currently only has 15 holes? That will soon be changing, but seriously, less than a buck a hole, who cares!
If you are a golf pro and you're looking for a challenging and fun course, this is NOT the place to go. -

Review is for Range only:
Love this place because even at 5pm there is always room. People are friendly and respect your space. You can tell some have known each other for a while. I bought the $100 card so that I don't have to keep going to the golf shop for a refill (yes, I need that much practice). Cold beer on a hot day or hot cocoa on a cold night goes a long way to improving the mood. -

4 star on driving range only!!!
love the range ... hate the course ...
driving range prices are very good and i think the best deal around the area ... there is always a spot and on weekends you can actually hit from the grass which is pretty cool.
i played here for my finals when i took a golf course through smc, the course is very narrow and can be hit by a ball at any given time which actually happened to me on hole 9, 13 and 16.
i will never ever play on this course ever again! -

*this review is only for the driving range*
i come here to straighten out my iron play as it has become quite erractic in the past year or two. so why do i commute down to the lax area instead of heading over to rancho park by my pad?
1. not crowded
2. no hipsters
3. grass driving range (there are also the standard astro turf mats as well)
obviously #3 is the most important factor to me because how often do you hit off an astro turf surface when you're out on the course? never......unless you are playing certain ghetto par 3's.
the noise factor needs to be considered since the range is next to lax though. i like to cruise out there with my ipod to drown out the noise and hit a basket of balls. no better way to get some sun, fresh air and a lil exercise.
all in all, the grass driving is well upkept. they move the hitting area forwards and backwards to allow for divots (i've contributed to hundred of them!!) to be repaired and the grass to regrow. due to this, it is tricky to gauge the distance you are hitting the ball because one weekend the hitting area would be 20yrds closer to the back fo the range, and the other, it will be 20yrds further.
yay for grass driving ranges!Listed in: Places to go to release the…

A full 18 holes now that they've finished renovation. The airport had stolen them. Glad to see they were able to work things out. They're a good couple. They've got golf carts but I wouldn't recommend them. Not really needed and if you're drinking you're likely to end up in a sand trap. And let me tell you, they are not prepared for towing. So I hear.

I've hit mostly on the range here, and I find that I'm able to find an open mat most times. The driving range has quite a few mats, and you can head underneath to hit irons if the mats on top are taken. There are also two putting greens to practice your putting, with one being fairly large (~8 holes to practice on). I've only played the front 6 on this course once, so perhaps when I've finally played a round here I'll update the rating.

This is a great place to practice your game or lack thereof and to enjoy a nice day out of the office to go help the gardeners here I mean golf. A fairly long course, with a few water holes and mad ducks nearby on some holes. You are right near lax and can see/hear the thunderous roar of the airplanes and even smell the rubber from the tires. Not too bad of a crowd considering this is LA/South bay but its still a wait. Good driving range and its well lit at night with ample room to practice your "I-can-out-drive-Tiger-Woods-shots". Stop by the Italy's little kitchen afterwards and enjoy a great meal to make up your golf game or to relish it.

There may only be 15 holes on the course (3 were eaten up by LAX but they are re-building now and will have 18 again in 2010) but the price is right and it is super convenient. The driving range is very large and there is ample parking.

played westchester the other day and to be honest i was in fear for my life for the entire 15 holes!! if you have a deathwish, you certainly have a good chance of getting run over by heavy machinery which is always ploughing around you, getting hit by incoming balls is another threat and if you can hear someone shouting four through the barage of aircraft noise. The state of the fairways to put it mildy are crap, the greens are shit, geese shit everywhere. the tee boxes dont really exist.
anyway they charge 18 dollars for the round nice!!
This course is a complete disaster and there nothing good about it to be blatantly honest. very busy also and took us nearly 4 hours to get around! anyway i recommend penmar for the same money only nine holes and much better!! if you enjoy westchester good luck to you!! -

I have been coming here for 5 years about. i play almost every week, and have a lesson probably 3 times a month. Jim Razetto is the best golf coach out there. Often, he gives us 45 minute lessons, for the price of 30 minute lessons, and he really knows what he is talking about. The only thing I do not like is the new General Manager: Cliff. Cliff thinks putting up advertisements for the next tournament is more important than picking up range baskets when there are none left, or acting as a marshal when their are none there. Sometimes when there is only 1 cashier(to answer phones and wait on people), Cliff rarely will jump in as a 2nd cashier. However, Bobby and Chris are both nice, and hard working front desk guys. They care about your game, and are not therer just to take your money, but rather ask how your game is going. The old manager Jim, who left to be a manager at another course, was the best. He would fill anybody's spot if it was needed. he needs to teach Cliff how to be a good manager. It is busy, but that's because LA golf courses raised their prices, and everybody is going to private courses. The course is nice, pretty descent condition. Range is cool, on the weekends you get actual grass, and not artificial mats. Go there, its cool

your basic range to be honest. nothing to rave about. mats are worn down- so don't expect nice carpets or nice balls. Many are old and worn condition. Closes early too so I would get there before 8pm.
