10 reviews for Westbrae Nursery
Since my house of one year has a prison yard for a garden, I've been scoping the plants in other people's places to figure out what I would like once we have the money.
Now that it is about time, I went to another nursery to find this particular plant with purple flowers that I see everywhere, but would be perfect for my front yard. Didn't have it. Then I went to Westbrae Nursery- not only did they have it, but the owner was super nice and helpful when I quizzed him about all the different plants I was interested in and what would grow best for this and that kind of condition. He was soooo nice! The plants were very reasonably priced as well. Made me want to go back there again and again.
We walk over to Westbrae from time to time. Its a charming little place, somewhat smaller than the Westbrae nursery of my youth which if I remember correctly, also encompassed the "pot" shop next door.
(For those of you who *must* know...I mean ceramic pot shop, not a medicinal clinic.)
Anyway, my one *great* find at Westbrae was a collection of Good Karma flags for our garden. I purchased a string with a celtic motif. When I returned a year later, the flags were no longer in stock. However, the Good Karma website *does* have an extensive collection if you are willing to wait a week or two for a delivery.
Back to Westbrae...I like their location and their selection of unusual items. Its worth browsing through if you happen to be in the neighborhood heading for Berkeley Hort. It *could* become a destination nursery given its location. For right now, its just an interesting place to visit.
Westbrae Nursery is a great neighborhood nursery. They have a great selection of unique plants and their prices are quite reasonable. Case in point - I was trying to screen in my backyard with passionflowers. I went to Orchard Supply to get cheap plants. I found one for $35. It died in two weeks :( We found a nice selection at Westbrae for $15/each. And they didn't die!
Nice people and very helpful. Good stuff!
My favorite place to get planties friends. Within walking distance of my house, this place is perfect - I just wish they had later weekday hours!
Very helpful, friendly, down-to-earth employees, and a great selection of starters in the spring for your good-eatin' gardening needs. I love their succulents, carnivorous plants, and other sweet rarities.
Check em out for pots, organic soil, seeds, lawn trolls, fountains, and other nursery goodies.
I don't have any major complaints about this nursery, nor do I have any strong praise. Maybe I've just been spoiled by the nurseries back home. Taking its size and location into consideration, Westbrae Nursery has a decent selection of seasonal plants at reasonable prices. Since this is the bay, there's a large variety of 'organic' gardening supplies, if that matters to you. It was almost annoying having to find the non-organic plants. If I didn't live so close by, I wouldn't go out of my way to get things here. But at the end of the day, I'm glad this place is within walking distance. I won't think twice about coming here in the future if I need some small gardening supplies. If you live nearby, Westbrae Nursery might be worth peeking into.
Not huge, but well stocked and the staff is helpful. Do you want the $10 watering can or the $40 one? This place has choices.
It's fun to browse and imagine owning a lush garden fully equipped with all the right tools to make it seem like no work at all.
Determined to spread my business around, I stopped by Westbrae (which is the proper spelling, BTW) today to check out their stock. It's smaller than Berkeley Hort or East Bay Nursery, but what isn't? It's about the same size as Magic Gardens, maybe. The people who work here are nice and helpful, there if you want them but leave you free to wander if you don't. I'm learning to go into nurseries w/o lists, because plants that aren't on my list always throw themselves at me and they end up going home w/ me rather than the ones I intended. I have a new patch in front that I wanted to populate and kind of had some ideas of what I wanted there but ended up w/ three unfamiliar lovelies that will look beautiful. And the young woman who carried them out to the car for me admired it extravagantly and charmingly, making a friend for life.
This is a smallish nursery, but the people who work here are quick to help, and they carry a broad range of plants for it's size.
I hit Westbrae while prowling east bay nurseries. The staff was very helpful and we were able to find exactly what we were looking for (which was some aromatic shrub my roommate wanted). They have a good selection of roses and succulents. But the real find was the sculpture garden next door (http://www.yelp.com/bi...).
Pretty much everything one would expect a nursery to be. Excelent customer service. The guys there will help you carry your cart to your car, even if you are parked a block away. Don't be surprised to buy much more than you had planned for!
