This place was so great, we went twice already on our family vacation! (and may go back again?)

West St. Cafe has something for everyone (especially seafood lovers).  Out of all the places I've had lobster (I must've eaten at least 8 lobster-filled meals by now), West St. was by far the best.  Their lobsters are VERY flavorful and VERY tender, and the fact that they serve you clarified butter is a big plus.

I must say, if you enjoy crab cakes and lobster, go for the Baked Lobster dinner.  Delicious!  I was curious to see how lobster would turn out baked, but it was great.  The meat seemed even more tender than boiled lobster, though the meat in the legs turned to jerkey.  This was made up for by the seafood-packed stuffing, which was also very flavorful.  I found this dish to be incredibly filling; I didn't even finish my sides (choice of fries, broccoli, potato, cole slaw.. I just ordered fries).  The menu tends to be on the pricey side (~$25.95 for the baked lobster) but it's definitely worth it if you're on vacation.

Other dishes we tried were:
Vegetable Pasta: Lots of herb loaded veggies and light olive oil on linguine
Chicken Parm: Very traditional but great flavor
Calamari (appetizer): about average.  well cooked, good marinara, crispy breading, not greasy.. but there was nothing too spectacular.
Fried Clams (appetizer): I love the tartar sauce West St. serves and the Fried Clams were delicious.  I haven't had fried clams in many other places so this was top-notch in my book.
Fried Shrimp (dinner):  Very succulent and flavorful, not greasy, but the portion seemed somewhat small.  My cousin didn't finish all of the shrimp or sides so maybe it wasn't small at all.
Boiled Lobster/Downeast: Great. Simply great.
Blueberry Pie: DELICIOUS! Flaky crust and very warm filling, not too runny and not too sweet.
Good Blueberry Soda too!

The service was fast, friendly, and attentive.
Overall, probably my favorite restaurant so far (out of 5 around the Bar Harbor area).

You might miss this place since the exterior has no great features.  The inside is clean and simple and service is good.  Foodwise, we ordered for dinner a bunch of appetizers (stuffed mushrooms, mussels, and crab cakes) and main courses (fried clams, surf and turf, and burger).  Everything was tasty and well prepared.  I recommend the stuffed seafood mushroom caps.

This is a great medium-nice place.  If you want something between a fancy restaurant and picnic tables with food in baskets, come here.  By far the best thing here is their mussels steamed in a spicy beer-garlic sauce.  Don't skip these thinking you've had them before.... you won't know what you're missing.  Also at $30 the twin-lobster dinner is a great value!

The food is average, but it is two blocks from the main drag so it doesn't seem to get the traffic the other restaurants get.  As a result, there is never a wait to eat here.

They've got a covered porch and it's a nice spot to eat.  Outside.  Porch.  Overlooking the harbor.  No wait whatsoever.

As for the food.  Well, maybe that's why it isn't so crowded.  It isn't bad by any means.  It is just really average.  And the atmosphere inside the restaurant is really weak, so you definitely want the porch if you can get it.

I'd basically consider this the perfect back-up restaurant when you can't get into the place you really want to eat at.

This place had an outstanding early bird lunch special: Maine lobster, clam chowder, fries, and a slice of wild blueberry pie for $24.95. I had just had lobster the day before, so I got mussels and fish-n-chips instead, but Vince got the lobster special. Oh my goodness, this was the best lobster either of us had ever had. It wasn't too big, just the right size for one person at lunchtime, and it tasted so fresh, like it was straight out of the sea. I think Vince fished every last piece out of that shell. We also got some local Bar Harbor beers (I got the blueberry ale and Vince got the real ale). The service was really good and friendly, and most of the clientele were locals. In addition to the lobster, the clam chowder was also the best I had on our trip. The blueberry pie was pretty good, with a very buttery crust. I feel very lucky that we ended up here and would certainly recommend it.
