1 review for West End Sports Club
What an awkward establishment. The "address" is on West End Avenue, but it doesn't actually exist, it's just a weather-worn sign saying "Entrance on 73rd street" -- yet it doesn't tell you WHERE on 73rd street... I wandered around, saw some sort of day school, walked to the end of the block and saw some shops that'd gone out of business, and finally I decided to go into a residential building and ask the doorman if he knew anything -- he said "Yeah, It's just right down that big hall there." How weird.
Once you get inside there's a receptionist chewing gum, filing her nails, and chatting on her cell-phone. I present her a voucher I got from work, entitling me to a free guest pass -- also if I decided to join I could get the initiation fee waved, and a discount on the monthly fees, plus there would no yearly contract -- well she said "Um, like um, we don't do that anymore or whatever, but you can come in and give it a shot or whatever if you got some clothes you can change into. You got some shorts? You got a lock?"
So I tried it out. The overall experience was dismal -- minimal and slow and quiet in all the wrong ways, it just felt so abandoned and desperate, and that's exactly what I'm trying to get away from right now.
