Review from Deena D.
I really enjoyed checking out West End Dental. The office is very updated and modern and the staff was super friendly & accommodating.
I'm that girl that has been going to the same dentist since I was a kid, so moving to the Midwest, and a year and half after realizing " #**$^%@$ I havent been to the dentist in almost 2 years". I quickly searched through Yelp for someone close and well received by their patients.
I like how you can fill out the insurance paperwork on-line ahead of time and that they use text messaging in addition to calls/email for aptmt reminders. These can be big time savers!
Megan D was a great dental hygienist - she gave me a tour of the office, sat me down to ask questions and get to know me, and was SO nice. I love how they have nice TVs so you can watch whatever your hearts desire. But the best thing about this is that they can alternatively use it to show me what in tarnation is happening inside my mouth. Yes, I'm a teeth grinder, guilty as charged.....
All in all, pretty quick and painless. Since I made an aptmt last minute I wasn't able to meet with Dr. Zander or Fiore but I have a follow up with them shortly.
PS Love the new patient goodie bags and snacks in the waiting room! Thumbs up. -

The first warning about this place is that THEY ARE OUT OF NETWORK! now it's not a bad thing and don't let it scare you away (my wife pays $9 a cleaning visit with her insurance, but I pay ~$60). step into their office and you will notice right away that they are one of the most modern dental practices in the city, and I'm not talking about the office itself, but also with the technology they use and the dental techniques.
The staff is also very friendly and always a pleasure to work with. Bernadette is the hygienist I see and she always does a great job cleaning my teeth and she's also very sweet. the girl at the front desk (and I'm sorry I don't know her name...) is easy to work with and does all the leg work for you on filing out the insurance claims and answering any of your billing questions. she always makes sure that I am comfortable, always offering drinks, snacks, or something to watch on the tv while I am waiting for my wife to get her teeth done too.
I used to dread going to the dentist's office.. ok, let's be honest, a lot of people do, but West End Dental has made the experience a much more tolerable and an enjoyable one... well, as much as a dental visit can be! -
Review from Kerry M.
I came here after being referred by a client of mine, and have had nothing but great experiences thus far. I see Dr. Fiore, and he's a very knowledgeable, friendly guy. I hadn't been to the dentist in quite a while due to crap insurance, but after a horrific toothache, I decided it was time to address the inevitable list of issues that had no doubt crept up over time.
He gave me a list of things that needed to be addressed over time, and then told me what needed to be fixed immediately.
Knowing that it was not going to be cheap, his office was more than willing to work out a payment plan with me so that I could afford all of the treatment necessary. I have to say, doctors that will take you regardless of insurance, work with you to pay for the service, and agree on a fair price for treatment, is the way to go. Because of this, I am regularly referring people to him. Also, Dr. Fiore is patient, straightforward, and most of all, gentle. I don't think I've ever said that about a dentist! -

Dr. Fiore was my dentist for 15 years, before I moved from Chicago. Followed him from his previous practice to West End Dental. He is by far the best dentist I've ever been to. West End Dental is great! I moved to CA and have been to 3 dentists here, and 4 other dentists before Fiore. There is no better dentist, or dental office. I may have to travel back to Chicago just for dental visits. Crazy, but true.

West End was recommended to me by a co-worker when I moved to Chicago. Upon my first visit I realized the place was considered "out of network" by my insurance company*, but I got a really good feeling about Dr. Fiore. He laid out a treatment plan for me and took his time explaining everything that needed to be done, in order of priority. So I decided to give it a shot.
One year later and I am still a loyal patient and customer. Sure, I spend a little more $$ out of pocket, but based on dentists I've had in the past, it's worth it for the service provided.
More reasons to be a fan of West End Dental:
- street parking always easy to find, even in the snow
- great music always playing in the office
- knowledgable hygienists
- free apple juice and granola bars in the lobby for days when lunchtime appointments leave no time for eating
- hey, some really cute girls work here!
*Regarding the bad reviews over insurance issues / confusion: come on, people. It's your own responsibility to ascertain your insurance coverage before you see a doctor. Don't leave it up to other people and then claim you were misled. Be a grown up and figure that stuff out before you leave the house! -

I have been visiting Dr. Zander at West End Dental since 2003 and when I recently moved back to Chicago there was no doubt where I was going even though I moved to a different neighborhood. The staff is friendly and able to schedule appointments to meet your needs. The facilities are great and they really make an effort to educate you on good dental health.
I can't recommend West End Dental enough. -

No scenes from "Marathon Man" or "Little Shop of Horrors" here.
Dr. Fiore is a skilled practitioner of the art of pain-free dentistry. He and his amazing staff will make you feel relaxed and calm. His chair-side manner is wonderful; he is communicative, professional and never, ever makes you feel rushed.
The office is immaculate and updated. You can confirm your appointments online. Billing is transparent and straightforward.
If you aren't fortunate enough to live within walking distance like I am, street parking is plentiful and the office is easily accessible by public transportation (the brown/purple lines are just a few blocks away and the #73 bus stops out front).
Life is far too short to dread your dental appointments! Check out West End Dental now! -

I used to love this dentist. But it seems over time, they've become less sensitive to my needs. I have EXTREMELY sensitive teeth, and they've done little to help me fix this problem. I even bought a $400 mouth guard, and they made it wrong, twice. I have to take medicine before I go to ease the pain, but it only helps so much. I'm a pretty tough cookie. But the last time I was there, I cried cuz it hurt so bad just to get a teeth cleaning! (Keep in mind, I'm a girl who tolerated braces for eight years, gets tattoos, played roller derby, and didn't mind the minor ache of a broken leg...)
They do not have private rooms. There are only partitions between patient stations. So if you have high anxiety or clausterphobia, the sound of the guy getting drilled next to you is going to freak you out.
They do a good job fixing fillings and keeping an eye on potential tooth issues. They have complimentary tooth brushes there if you forget to brush prior. They always give me a free toothbrush and the special dental floss I like. They should, for as much as I pay. Even with dental insurance, it cost me a lot to go there.
But the final straw to break my back was when I lost my job and still had a small bill to pay off. I called and arranged to make a few payments. I guess someone didn't note this properly and my installments weren't an obvious sign of my efforts to pay the bill. I got a phone call threatening to turn me in to collections if I did not pay immediately. I had been a loyal, paying patient for about 8 years there. A simple lack of communication on their end and loss of my job made no difference in their book. They are not sympathetic to serious pain problems nor financial issues.
Do not be late for an appointment. After fives minutes, you'll get a cell phone call while you're trying to park. After ten minutes, you'll get abbreviated service. If you're fifteen minutes late, you're cancelled.
I really only want to give them two stars. But they are highly trained, the hygenists are super nice and knowledgeable, and they do a decent job--IF you don't have any major problems and can afford the Lincoln Park atmosphere they offer. I'm sadly looking for a new dentist. And will keep flossing daily in the meantime... -

I have been seeing Dr. Fiori for several years. He's really the nicest dentist you could have. The practice is very modern and and the staff are professional and friendly. Also they play really good music!
I've taken one star off because they don't take all insurance, and so I end up paying a bit more to go there. But I do think I have really benefited from the preventive dental care I've gotten from them, so in that sense it has paid off.
Very convenient location on the quiet end of Armitage so street parking is never a problem. -

West End Dental is the cleanest, most technologically advanced dental office that I have ever been too. The staff is completely knowledgeable, professional and thorough. The location couldn't be more convenient. My only gripe is that when my company switched to Delta dental I have to pay up front and get reimbursed.

I once gave a rave review but now I'm not so sure. Thing is I'm a flake socially because I'm a geek. I am mid creating businesses and hiring people and entertaining clients who can keep me out late. I've proven to West End that I pay up and they charge huge for PARTIAL cleanings prior to doing any work. Granted I've got a billion things to do and a mush mouth of work needed. You'd think as backed up as they are with double that insurance holders can pay they'd LOVE an open slot when I can't make it. I asked for the section I need implants to be worked on while they worked on the other section of my mouth entirely unrelated and got an unreasonable response that my entire mouth needed to be perfectly free of decay before the top part of my mouth that now (to their credit) was perfect before getting my implants done. Well guess what... I don't have this much time. 2 visits a month average. This means if your shit is really bad like mine you will get a 3rd done per month no matter how much you have in your bank account. There is no reasonable excuse I can find online or from 2 other dentists now as to why he'd be putting off an oral surgeon for my upper teeth while he finished the lower repairs. I feel that the rich who know no better go here and get smooth talked into long strung out visits in order to milk the patient. Yes I SAID IT! THIS PLACE IS MILKING PEOPLE FOR CASH!!!
I was TRYING to responsably put off an appointment a few days before hand because I had a dry sales month and they said up front they'd be cool with me being late but they wanted to fill that spot so badly that they had me come in and then made me feel like shit about being late for the next dry business wise weeks I had. I did pay them for it a couple weeks late. Then I missed one appointment (only one other was rescheduled ahead of the day it was to occur) and they dropped me. I left a message via phone and emailed to reschedule but apparently this was my last offense allowed. I haven't heard from them since.
They don't use the rubber dam thingy to keep tooth grindings and shit from going into your throat from a long session. This is hard to deal with. I CAN deal with it if you're nice etc but it also depends how good the assistant is. The first was cool (assistant) although she never stopped talking for 2 full hours... but the second either didn't use water with suction or when she did she squirted me straight in the throat and then gagged me with the suction. I couldn't wait to pay and leave.
I got upper and lower dental impressions done to make me an anti grinding teeth thingy for when I sleep. I payed 500 dollars (once it was made) after being told I'd get the bottom done free since I was there and ready.. I waited until it arrived to pay. I got an upper metal plastic combo thing that is similar to braces to put in my mouth at night. Only for my upper teeth and the only thing this thing does is keep me from grinding my 2 front teeth while putting a ton of plastic in my mouth along with metal that presses my teeth so hard together I'd swear it's a pair of braces. This thing grabs my teeth so hard after asking it to be refit that it's hard to fall asleep. Are we seriously still in the metal on teeth age? The thing doesn't even match my teeth. It keeps my front teeth uncomfortably apart and covers the entire roof of my mouth thick as hell making me feel like I've got a freakish contraption in my mouth from the 1500's i as I try to sleep stage? WTF happened to invisaligne? Honestly I had a 4 dollar "boil then mold" pair tooth protectors for high school wrestling in Missouri in the mid 80's that are superior.
Somehow this office thinks they are doing you a favor. I pay cash. I guess it sucks when you can't charge double what you should to the insurance companies...1 Previous Review: Show all »

I've been going to West End Dental for over 15 years! Always has been a high class/professional operation. They seem like they have been on the cutting edge of dentistry from day one! I love the hygenists--Bernadette in particular is VERY GOOD...Dr. Fiore always makes you feel right at home and is very professional. The office is very nice and well kept and the Front Office "Accounting" Dept is very thorough as well! Highly recommend them and have for many years to all my friends...ALL of em! GTFJD

I have been going to West End for a little over a year now. The whole staff is so warm and welcoming and the office atmosphere is great. Dr. Fiore is so friendly and his work is so pain free that I forget what I ever disliked about going to the dentist. I definitely recommend West End!

I feel bad giving this office a 2-star rating because when you walk in, it's beautiful and the staff is exceedingly nice, and they even give you a little gift bag... but I went in for my appointment a few weeks ago and was told that they needed to verify my insurance, which is what they do with every client. (I have never been to a doctors office that didn't take my insurance). After the receptionist was on the phone for 20 minutes with my insurance company, I was told that I WAS covered and I would just have to pay upfront for my appointment and I would get reimbursed. Not only did I go in for my entire appointment, but I leave to find out that they didn't take my insurance... so basically the women who "helped" me didn't know what she was talking about and I ended up paying for a cleaning appointment when it's free... anywhere else. I was more than furious. I wish I could make them pay for my appointment... I definitely won't be back or recommend this place. Bernadette was an amazing hygienist though!

I've been going to Westend Dental for a couple years now and I wouldn't go anywhere else. Not many people look forward to going to the dentist, but I actually don't mind visiting Dr. Zander and everyone else in the office. Everyone there is so friendly and welcoming. I would recommend Westend Dental to anyone looking for a new, convenient place to go in the city.

I felt like I had just escaped a scam. I think you could walk in there with perfect teeth and they would tell you that you need $10,000 worth of work. Also, the girl who answered the phone checked their insurance for me. She very definitely said they will work with all insurance plans. Well this is a very carefully worded bait and switch situation. After I went in and had xrays, she said they did not accept my insurance carrier. When I mentioned my call to check for this exact situation she said they try to work with all insurance carriers, but only accept one. They are definitely out to distort the truth when it comes to applying your insurance. Be VERY CAREFUL here.

I arrived to West End Dental because a friend had begged me to try her dentist, for a cleaning and examination claiming "Once you go Fiore, you never go back."
Well, with 4 hours of sleep under my belt and a pretty negative attitude, I walked in to smiling faces. Uh, where am I, I thought.... I must not be at the dentist office because people are bringing me gift bags and making me feel like a million dollars.
Aside from the amazing customer attention (they actually realize we are in the middle of a recession, and I think they did this before it hit), the hygienists and Dr. Fiore are extremely knowledgeable, professional, and organized. Coming from a Virgo (like, the most organized person in the universe), I mean, they are really darn organized. They even have little microphones to announce to their associates the next patient step. In the patient's eyes, the visit is seamless and efficient.
Now to the part about the actual examination and cleaning. VERY thorough. Every step is explained and hygiene tips are provided as you're getting cleaned. Plus, this office is not "old school" in their cleaning approach. It is very modern and all of the newest technology is used.
I highly recommend this office and Dr. Fiore and his staff. Outstanding. -

I chose West End Dental because they had good Graphic Design... this might seem dumb but my experience is, Good Graphics & Good Business seem to equal a winning situation. Well, that was back in 1994.. I've been going to Dr. Fiori 2X a year. He's a very gentle and kind person (and a graduate of Fenwick High School & Loyola University). West End Dental is on top of their technology with all of the latest DDS gadgets. I have never waited for an appointment, thier scheduling is on the button. I highly recommend Dr. Fiori & West End Dental for sanitation, prompt attention, professionalism and my Fine Set of Choppers.

I was new to Dr. Zander 3 visits ago. Before that I was dentist-less for 3ish years, due to fear that I gained from my last dentist.
When I was younger I used to love the dentist because I loved having clean teeth, but my last dental practice changed my love into fear and confusion. There was always something wrong with my last dental practice, from not being quoted correct prices, being in pain during a cleaning, to them dropping an acidic liquid on my forehead that created a chemical burn. (go read about it in my review of the other dental practice) I knew I had enough of this practice but then was scared to find someone new, as who knows what a good dentists really is?
As I searched for a new dentist and feared seeing someone new for about 3 years I finally got a good referral from a client of mine who gave me assurance that Dr. Zander would change my fear back to love of going to the dentist.
My first visit was actually soothing- to my mind at least. The Hygienist, don't remember her name, but will make sure they schedule my next cleaning with her, was awesome. She was VERY THOROUGH, and educated me along the whole way (totally loved knowing what she was doing and why and what she was finding out and why it was important and what it meant). And then I met Dr. Zander. Who is so personable, really seems to have a passion for dentistry and explains things very well.
My second/third visit was the real test... fixing something my last dentist did. Dr. Zander and team fitted me for a new crown and then placed it... so, numbing me, drilling, drilling, more drilling, etc. and then creating my new tooth. Well- SUCCESS- I was normally numb (not irritated like I've been before), and I LOVE MY TOOTH... feels like it is my own- very comfortable. And Dr. Zander was great with me the whole time. He did a great job dentist wise, but was also enjoyable to be around.
Dr. Zander and team have passed the test. I trust him and his staff and really like the work they've done.
They are expensive (but comparable to other higher end dental practices) and I don't need to discuss front desk issues, because hey... it doesn't matter when it comes to your teeth!
I'd absolutely recommend Dr. Zander to anyone- actually already have to friends. -

I don't know a lot of people who love the dentist. But, if you go to West End Dental (I am partial to Dr. Fiore) then you will love going each and every time.
They are very professional, have a great staff, very clean and modern equipment and rooms. They have kept my teeth very healthy.
I have to say that I had my first cavity while seeing Dr. Fiore (at the age of 28) and was terrified of having it filled. They were great and made me feel totally comfortable--I had very little to no pain.
I also had a very scary impacted wisdom tooth sitting on a nerve that had to be removed and the referrals for an oral surgeon (thank you Dr. Kallal for removing this tooth with no nerve damage!) were amazing.
I highly recommend West End and Dr. Fiore if you're looking for a dentist! -

I have never been anything but impressed with this practice. I've been visiting Amy for over ten years now, and she is by far the most professional hygenist I've known. Thankfully, I've never had any major dental problems or emergencies, but the maintenance program Amy's recommended has worked fabulously. I am only sad that, now that I am leaving Chicago, I will no longer be able to visit. Thank you to everyone at West End Dental for all your help and great services!!

As a person who has relocated to many cities, finding outstanding medical services is one of the hardest things to do. After all, nothing less than outstanding should do when it comes to your health. And for me, finding a great dental office is key. I stumbled upon West End from the referral given to me by a coworker and could not be happier. From the moment you walk into the facility it is obvious that they are very concerned about the patient's overall experience and well being. Everything from the attentive customer service provided by the ladies in the front office to the thorough explanation of treatment given by the dental staff...it is top notch. I like to be fully informed on the what, when , why and how of the treatment being offered and they did that and so much more. Meghan and Dr. Zanger really made me feel at home. I honestly look forward to my next visit. This is a model dental practice! I highly urge you to check it out.

First, let me say I'm married to an orthodontist and by osmosis have become fairly familiar with good dentistry and how a practice should be run. Dr. Fiori and Dr. Zander are the finest general dentists I have ever been treated by and there have been many. First, the practice is highly professional. There's never more than a few minutes wait, the office is clean and modern and the staff is warm, courteous and efficient. Second, they are excellent at preventative care which I particularly admire because checkups and cleanings aren't as lucrative as crowns and fillings. They and their excellent hygienists take the time to explain to you any minor issues that could become major issues and give you an action plan, that you can do yourself through regular hygiene, to address them. Third, if you do need major dental work as I did when I first saw them, it will be done properly and it will be done to last. And finally, they are the nicest, funniest, most caring guys; I just love them. They're fanatical about their dentistry but they convey that in a way that's sincere and approachable. They are the best.
