"Spas aren't really my thing, but to be honest, I've only been to one spa in my life and it wasn't even a real spa (just a room with plants…" read more »
In dire need of a manicure (work related stress can lead to serious nail biting) I set out this morning to land a walk in appointment with one of the myriad nail salons on Polk Street. The cable car let me off at Hyde and Jackson and as I walked past Larkin I noticed a lone nail salon, which appeared to be open. I figured what the hell, I'm already here, mind as well try it out! While the door was locked, Tina, the sole manicurist, saw me and immediately opened the door informing me that she could do my nails right then and there which was fantastic because she normally does manicures by appointment. My nails were in a very sad state, yet Tina had no problem doing a french manicure. She spent a very long time massaging my hands, and carefully trimming my nails and cuticles. We had a great conversation throughout the process- she is incredibly friendly and caring. In fact, as I had only $12 in cash, she readily just took this amount for the manicure, even though I know that french manicures are slightly more pricey- I felt bad, but next time I will come armed with cash so I can at least give a tip (not to mention pay the correct amount for the procedure). In any event, I highly recommend Tina at the West Coast nail salon- she is very thorough, kind, and the salon is very quiet and relaxing compared to the popular places on Polk street. Be aware however, that she normally sees people by appointment, but I figure if you go early enough on a weekend you probably won't have a problem as a walk in customer.
As a last note, she is closed on Tuesdays, but open every other day of the week.
