We stopped in after 11pm, met by a curt clerk who set up a bill higher than the one I had reserved onliine. He fixed it after I pointed it out. Down 1/2 star.
The outside of the hotel is a 60's era, nondescript motel facade. Down 1/2 star.
Now: Beautiful soft remodel by the Coast Hotel group. Taupes, browns and pale yellow in the room. Very comfortable bed. We were on the second floor overlooking a very quaint courtyard. The location is excellent, walking distance to the beach and wharf, and State street is about 4 blocks away. It's raining today, which can be a bummer, but hey, it's Santa Barbara so let's just cal it romantic.
I had a great experience at the West Beach Inn. I blindly booked it online because the rate was great and the website mentioned recent renovations.
I was immediately pleased upon check-in when we were greeted with wine and cheese in the lobby. Once we got to the rooms we were even more impressed. Everything was completely redone - new furniture, fixtures, bed, bathroom, floors, everything was beautiful. And the beds!! ahh the beds, soooo comfortable. I got a great night sleep.
The hotel is located across the street from a public beach and is walking distance to many restaurants and shops. I said it many times during my stay and I'll say it again - I'll definitely stay there again when I come back to SB. I couldn't have been happier with my stay.
This is a great inexpensive hotel. When we arrived Friday afternoon they were just starting a wine and cheese hour! What a treat! We were quite excited. They also have complimentary breakfast every morning....another bonus. The rooms were good sized and the bed was comfortable. The staff was friendly and accommodating. There is a pool and a hot tub, all looked very clean and inviting. There are lots of tables/umbrellas/chairs,etc all around the pool. The rooms came with two complimentary waters which we were more than happy to take advantage of. They even give you chocolates on your pillow! Oh, and free internet too!
The rooms were very clean and I love when the sink and mirrors aren't in the bathroom so that you can get ready when the actual bathroom is being used. One tip......the website will give you a AAA rate even for a weekend reservation but if you call the hotel directly they will tell you you cant get the AAA rate. We booked it online with the AAA rate no problem and of course the hotel honored it. It is REALLY reasonably priced. Right across the street from the ocean and some of the rooms have an ocean view. Walking distance to State Street. This place is a real find!
