Wegman's is such a great grocery store. I got hooked originally on the store in Farifax before this one opened. The selection is great and the prices are almost always better than Giant, Safeway, Bloom, etc.

They have a very wide selection of gourmet and organic items that are usually cheaper than Whole Foods. The food court there rivals many shopping malls with a pan-Asian buffet, sandwich shop, pizza shop, crab cake stand, salad bar, bakery and - somewhat oddly - some of the best sushi in the Woodbridge area.

I used to drive here from Springfield before moving to Lake Ridge and it was worth the drive. My two criticisms would be the crowds and the parking. It gets jam-packed on the weekends and in the evening; going late-night is a great way to avoid this if you can. As for the parking, the store faces away from the access road, and you have to go down a narrow street to get to the main parking lot. Additional retain stores are being constructed next to the store, which will probably turn accessing the store a nightmare during peak times.

Wegmans you get 5 stars for being open til midnight and having an amazing wine selection. Who has chilled moscato d'asti that I can get at 1130? WEGMANS! and that is enough for me to love them - but seriously it looked like an amazing grocery store on a regular level also, but thats not what I was in the market for.

Please open a Wegmans in Dallas.. soon!

Wegman's Wegman's Wegman's! It's just an event everytime I go. It's an experience, no other grocery store is like Wegman's. Their pre-seasoned entrees are excellent. The quality of their food is great. The wine section is fabulous! Wine tasting is 4 days a week!

Pro's: its like Whole Foods and a safeway all in one, and it has a lot of prepared foods.

Con's: It's stupidly huge, and normal foods like what you would find at your local Safeway or Giant are about a 1/4th of the store and a whole isle is just Soda... beyond a wast of space. It lacks verity of non gourmet food stuffs. I have better selections at the tiny Harris Teeter by my house in Arlington.  On the level of gourmet and natural foods there is OK verity, but nothing to wright home about.  Its also over priced for most of what they have, I find things cheaper at Safeway and Harris Teeter.  Also the check card is need if you wright a check... what is this 1980!?!

Notes: I don't live right in the area of Woodbridge, and while I know some people drive down just for this store I wouldn't, shoot I won't even stop off on my way back from Ikea if I need something, I dislike it that much, its kinda like Gaint I just don't shop there. I shop Whole foods and like it and there brand I find to be less then Wegmans brand. Now I know Wegmans is nicer than the tones of food lions, and bottom dollars in  Woodbridge.

Overall Wegmans is a super place to grocery shop but it takes a few trips to really understand where everything is-very disorienting if you like shopping in a store with "grid" style aisles.  The prices ride in-between Safeway and Whole Foods depending on what you buy.  Not cheap but some store brands seem reasonable like creal for $1.99 per box.

PLUS:  The variety will kill you-they have it all including a decent hot food area.

Atmosphere:  Think Clampett Family's first trip to Rodeo Drive.  Jedd, Ellie Mae and Jethro all marvelling at how fresh the opposum is.

CON:  If you can't handle a bazillion rude married types with their rude little children then you should most likely shop here in the off hours of week days or late evenings between 10PM and MIdnight.  It is seriously a zoo of obnoxious people bumping into you.  Very unpleasant.

Access is also weird for this location.  You can see it from the higway but it takes some time to actually drive up to it unless there is a secret that I am unaware of.

I went again on Friday morning, to check out the scene after "opening madness" had cooled down.

I went around lunch time, and seriously ate lunch there for free with all the samples that were going on.  A little cheese here, a little bread there.  I don't know if this strategy makes you satisfied gastronomically and you buy less--or makes you buy more of what you sample.  I think it is a toss up.

This time I bought that Woopie pie I had photographed before, and it was delicious.

I also bought some olives off the Mediterranean bar, which were as close to the quality as Marvelous Markets, but obviously a lot closer to my homestead.  The fresh mozzarella on the bar was also very good.

Purchase of the day was certainly the gallon of 2% milk which was about a dollar cheaper than any other local grocery store right now.  We will see how the price on that compares after week 1.

Yes, it is very exciting.  Isn't it funny that a grocery store can cause such stimulation?

This place is HUGE.  It took a few visits to actually see the entire store, and it's much easier to walk through on a week day.  The best bargain I found was an entire case of bottled water for $2.99.  -That's close to the price of 1 large bottle of water in NYC!

In all of the hoop-la of the new Wegman's opening and the zoo of a crowd inside, I can't help but worry for our other markets in the area that have served us so well for so many years, not to mention the tiny independent health food store that's in the same shopping center as Jo Anne Fabrics.

Having grown up in this town, Shoppers Food and Safeway (at Opitz Crossing) have been here ever since I can remember.  I just hope that people continue to patron their stores as well as Wegman's.

Having said that, I have to admit that I too have fallen under the Wegman's spell.  The convenience is oh so appealing.

Looks like Woodbridge is on it's way up :)

The crowd wasn't the problem I had with the launch of the latest Wegmans in the D.C. area.  It was lack of preparation in certain areas.

First their was no way to find directions to the new store.  The directions section of the website for the store was blank and the new address cannot be accessed by Mapquest.  So I was flying blind.  "I can see it from 95, how hard can it be to find it?"  Harder than I thought.  There were signs scattered all over after I exited off near the Wegmans but there were no arrows directing you where to go.  So I'd pass a sign thinking I must be headed in the right direction only to realize I was traveling the wrong way for about 3 miles.  Finally some local police officers at a WaWa told me how to get there.  I went later, so the parking lot wasn't too insane.

First I hit the cafe for something to eat.  This area seemed to be well organized and I got my sub and paid for it in no time at all.  The sub was great, just like all the other Wegman's sub shops.  Then I set out to do my grocery shopping.  Lots of great produce at good prices.  The deli counter had a lot of good Italian meats at affordable prices.  But there was no Genny Light or Zweigles White Hots.  This might not seem like a big deal, but many transplanted Western New Yorkers shop Wegmans specifically because they carry these items.  The Dulles and Fairfax locations stock them, so I'm not sure why this location decided not to.  While I was searching for the white hots, two other shoppers came by also to be disappaointed not to find them.

Despite the crowds everything was running pretty smoothly.  That is until I got to the cash registers.  The first register was stalled because the cashier and customers were both equally confused over credit cards and the price of two muffins.  I waited for 10 minutes for them to sort it out before moving to another line.  This line only had two people in it but was crawling.  Again a confused cashier was the culprit.  The third line only had one person in it, but the cashier was taking about 30 seconds to scan each item.  I couldn't take it anymore and had to leave the few items I wanted to purchase behind.

Most of the cashiers appeared to be young high school students.  It was probably their first grocery store experience.  Not a wise move to have them going it alone on the opening day.  I'm sure they'll get if figured out eventually and when they do, Wegmans will be worth the trip.  But don't expect to find Genny Light or Zweigles White Hots.

Wegmans has liberated the people in Prince William County from high food prices! LOL Seriously, it is awesome to have Wegmans open in the area I do most of my shopping.  It took a bit getting used to how the store was set up, but think it is the best of the three locations in northern VA.  The frozen food is at the end of the store so it's the last place you go  before you check out. It allows  you to escape without the frozen yogurt  starting to melt. The other best part? Less crowds. Yes, it is busy, but I haven't had a problem finding a close parking space yet. I'm glad Wegmans is continuing to expand in the DC area.

Wegmans continues to improve - they now have bialys and the toy train is "magical," as I heard one little boy put it.  Also love the daily complimentary hot tea in the tea section.

It's a success!  Although the parking isn't finished, I had no problem finding parking for the 7 a.m. opening.  It was EXCITING to see the line around the building, but multi entrances were opened and the crowd dissipated quickly once inside.  Also nice that there were plenty of baskets.

Loved the opportunity to sample the bakery wares, teas, coffees, etc. and the staff was not just prepared, they were welcoming, happy to be there, and interested in how we like the store.  This made the crowds easier to handle, too.

Briefly disappointed that  they no longer carry the pre-made foccacia in the bakery, but when I found the thin crust ready made personal pizzas, it no longer matters.  They are FABULOUS!  There were also no bialys, but I was assured that some of the products, such as bialys, not found on the first day, are coming.  Maybe that's the case with Tony M's faves.  Hope so.  Great organic selections, even in the bulk food section.

LOVE the little fabric wine carrying bags!!  It may be my imagination, but the wine shop seems smaller than the one at the Monument Drive store, but they had GREAT buys.  Where else can you get a bottle of  Aussie Yellowtail for $5 or a bottle of CA Barefoot for $4!!?

What do  I miss?  The overhead toy train!  But, it's nice that  everything's on one floor, there's no basement.  Natural meats, with no antibiotics, etc., are hard to find and not in abundance.  However, the outdoor eating area is large and very nice.  Stop by for fresh hand-scooped gelato, too!  This is a don't miss Wegmans in Woodbridge.

Yeah -- A Wegman's in the area!   Wonderful grocery experience for those who love to eat, shop, cook (ok, that covers almost everyone).  It's new, clean, high-end for Woodbridge, and highly welcomed.   Because it's new and hires a lot of workers, I did encounter some confusion at the Cafe where they make the subs (they weren't quite organized and I asked the cashier what soups they had today, and she said she did not know, excuse me - I'm from PA).   I just smiled and say, I'm not from VA either honey!  LOL    I gave it 4 stars because they need some organization.   They even have a nice selection of Kosher foods.

Woo Hoo! Cannot even begin to say how happy we are that Wegmans has come to our area. The food quality, wine selection, and service are wonderful. The market cafe area is like nothing I've ever seen before. My husband and I were in awe, but eventually grabbed a table upstairs and took the task of finding lunchtime treats to enjoy. He raves about the sushi and I highly recommend the salad bar area. I know it has just opened, but if they can keep up the high standards they have found customers for life. I will be passing by a Safeway, Bloom, and Giant to make my way to this fabulous store.
