I can say a whole lot about this place as a grocery, deli, butcher, restaurant, hangout, the list goes on.  I'll just highlight my favorites.

    - Newly expanded food bar now includes Wokery, Salad Bar, Fresh Rood (pasta and meat salads), Indian, Vegetarian, and Dim Sum.  I've eaten everything at least once.
    - You can get bulk candy at 4am.  Always important.
    - Impressive natural and international food sections.  I spend hours looking through everything.
    - Peanut butter pretzels are GOD.  Don't be tricking into the chocolate covered ones, the originals are much better.

I don't think I can do justice to Wegmans, this location in particular. I'll just be lazy and keep it simple with some three word phrases that come to mind:

    *Family owned business.
    *Scholarships for kids.
    *Open 24-7.
*Great for studying = Grad school survival.
    *Ethnic food selection.
    *Cheese bar craziness.
    *Features local food.
    *Logical food pairings.
    *Ridiculous organic section.
    *Child proof checkout.
    *Tasty hot food.
    *On-site dry cleaning.
    *Genuine customer service.

    In short, "Wegmans is amazing."

I have never been to a Wegmans before but was inclined to stop in while traveling out in western NY because I hear so many good things about it from friends.

I'll tell you - I'm kind of a supermarket snob. One of the biggest reasons I purchased my house where I did is because I love the local supermarket. Now I almost wish I was able to move out to WNY because Wegmans blew away my expectations.

I had the prepared sushi and "wokery" food, including the dim sum. Even at around 8:00 P.M. on a Sunday, it was fresh and flavorful. I walked around the vast store (seriously, it's bigger than a super walmart) and was truly impressed by their natural and conventional selections.

Let's just say I'm very, very jealous and disappointed that they'll probably never come to Albany. Thank goodness I need to travel often for business so I can experience the awesomeness that is Wegmans.

Its huge!!! But it has everything you need and want. I wish their organic selection was larger and more consistent. They run out of organic chicken all of the time. They also change the location of their fresh produce all the time. Overall the place is amazing, i guess i am spoiled.

I love Wegmans. This is probably the only one I got to because of the location. It is fairly close to campus and it is strategically position next to Liquor City. Produce is amazingly fresh here, I am not a fan of their beef because of the vacuum packaging. I am from Texas and our meat is so fresh that they just use plastic wrap. The vacuum makes it look old... This is just my oddness.

4/5 because Wegman is so expensive.

    WEGMANS! WEGMANS! WEGMANS!

Best grocery store on the planet.  It's like a Whole Foods and your conventional supermarket, all in one huge, 24-hour, amazing food emporium.  God I love this place.  2 am trips here were common.  No, it is not cheap, but you have to know that going in here, and I won't take off stars for that... because frankly, shopping here is an experience, one that I miss very much.  Enormous produce selection, great meat/seafood, extensive salad/olive bar, enticing bakery, plus all the usual junk food you could ever want... I could spend hours in here.  And I did!

In the event of a zombie apocalypse this is where you'll find me. Duh, food. But plenty of beer, changes of socks, patio furniture to lounge upon, a decent magazine aisle for entertainment, and hell if I get that bored I can play with rice cake machine thing.

And oh yeah, beer. Not that I'd bother to mix my own six in my hypothetical doomsday, but I certainly wouldn't be miffed about the selection.

I grew up with Wegmans and having lived in major metropolitan cities since high school I lament the fact that I need to drive more than a half hour to reach one; and this particular one only gets better and better.

Alec Baldwin endorses Wegmans, and so do I.

Back in 2009 I wrote that I would switch to Tops in a minute if they came to CNY - good news!    Tops is here!     I was spending about $100-125/week at Wegmans....I now shop at tops and spend $60-75/week for the same stuff.    Actually, that's not quite true, I am back to buying name-brand items for the same price as the Wegman's brand.

Since my first review, Wegman's has gone even further down the store brand path and has gotten even more expensive.    Frankly, I could care less if I can buy lawn furniture, pots, pans and socks - for those things, I will go to Macy's.    For food - try Tops!

Awesome, awesome, awesome place.  Read all the other 5 star reviews for details.  I would like to say this about prices:  I have a set shopping list every week (cat food, bread, Coke, chips, bananas, yogurt, block o' cheese, packaged cold cuts, hamburger/rolls, soup...you know, ordinary basic stuff).  I have found the prices at Wegmans for my basics are LOWER than any other store (except maybe Walmart).  Produce, meat, dairy products - people, look away from the expensive/exotic/specialty items.  Wegmans is NOT that expensive.

Hands down the best supermarket I've ever been to.  There is not a close second here.  It's Wegmans and then the field.

They have an Indian food bar, a hummus bar, a charcuterie section at their deli, amazing meats, home goods, vast selections of cheeses, a magnificent bakery, pre-made party trays, and a host of other items that put it head and shoulders above any other grocer.

There's a Wegmans coming to Massachusetts and, though it's an hour from my house, I might go there once a month.

Enormous! Great selection of fresh food, prepared food, and all the staples. The deli and charcuterie is amazing. Fresh food bars (hummus, Indian food, salad bar, etc) are great options - good prices and delicious food.

It's easy to go crazy and spend a lot here. Even with the Wegmans card we really didn't save much on our trip here.

Staff is greatm very friendly. Store is enormous and very clean. Could be more organized and better labeled.

I thought all Wegmans were like this one, since I'd only experienced brand new ones in Northern VA - discovering that most Syracuse Wegmans are pretty lackluster was a bit disappointing.  However, this is clearly the flagship of flagship Wegmans.  Nothing comes ridiculously cheap, of course, but it's a fun store.

    BEST SUPERMARKET EVER!

I am from Southern California (currently live here too) but lived in Syracuse for a year.  We have some pretty nice markets in LA but Wegmans is by far the best market I have ever been to.

The prepared food is beautiful, fresh and there is a huge selection.  The cheese section is AMAZING!  (I am a cheese fanatic)  The breads and pastry section has so many choices and it does not disappoint.  The entire rest of the supermarket has everything you could possibly want.

When I lived in Syracuse going to Wegmans was the highlight of my week.

Try, just try to exaggerate how good of a grocery store this place is.  You will need to consult a thesaurus and break the first and or second commandments.  It's that good.

I have to go to four different grocery stores in Washington to get what I've grown accustomed to at Wegman's, yet still I'm disappointed.  Certainly their upstate New York versions are better than their Virginia/Maryland/New Jersey ones  (they are cheaper in CNY), though those are good for a Wegmans fix.

I simply wasn't prepared for Wegmans. The Syracuse area is amazingly underwhelming in so many ways. It feels markedly remote, cut off, spartanly populated. But now I know why. Everyone is inside of this mega mega grocery store. I hadn't heard of it, but noticed a gigantic parking lot filled with dozens and dozens of cars on my "scenic" drive into Fayetteville. Having hardly seen anyone out and about since I arrived in town earlier in the day, I decided to take a spin around the store for a bit of  local "culture."

Upon entering I was mesmerized. This is the largest market I have ever been to in my entire life. They carry EVERYTHING--gluten free products, aveda shampoo, fresh paninis, granola in bulk bins, and there's even a dispenser where you can by m&m's by individual color. I wandered aimlessly around the aisles. It was 4:30PM and I hadn't eaten yet (strange travel schedule) and the abundant choices didn't make it any easier. Salad and produce options were outstanding. And if you feel like ice cream at 3AM, fret not. Wegmans has several freezer aisles devoted to the stuff and they're open 24 hours.

Hello, I have just moved from New York City and just when I start to judge how "small" my world has become, I see you, a kingdom of delicious food, a directory of all necessary services...

    I currently:
    - shop here for my groceries, obviously, when i feel like cooking.
    - seek out the delicious already-prepared foods if i do not feel like cooking.
    - inquire the cook's helpers items (like pre-made sauces, etc) when i only feel like Partially cooking.
    - drop off my dry-cleaning when i'm shopping
    - pick up my prescriptions when i'm almost done shopping

So, I officially nominate Wegman's for the Best Grocery Store Ever Award.

    The end.

Living in Syracuse (Dewitt) for the first 18 years of my life I was able to see Wegmans evolve into the mega-supermarket it has become.  It never ceases to amaze me that no matter what time of day it is there are tons of cars in the parking lot.  When I moved to college and went to grocery stores - Stop and Shop and Shaw's I was like where are all the cars.  Then I realized people don't actually hang out at grocery stores like they do at "weggies".

Wegmans has quality service, food (eat in/take out) and you never have to wait in long check out lines. Once you live without Wegmans you truly appreciate and miss it and continue to miss it...

I have to admit their last expansion got a little crazy - they kept switching everything around like crazy to the point of where no one in the store knew where anything was - not even the employees, but I'm sure they have sorted it out.  It's funny to think that some of my good memories from HS somehow involve a grocery store haha.

I wish there was a Wegmans in Boston!

This is THE grocery store to shop at in the 'Cuse.  It's not as close to campus as some of the other markets, such as P&C's.  But, the drive out is definitely worth it.

The produce is fresh and there is a wide selection.  There is also a good variety of hot and prepared foods.  I've been told the dining area in the food court is a nice place to study.

One thing I loved was how friendly the workers are there.  I think some of them could be students.  But, the service created a great atmosphere to get away from the stress of school or the depressingly cold weather.

With limited options for nightlife in the 'Cuse, I could never complain about going on a midnight shopping run on a Friday or Saturday night at Wegman's!

My friends at college used to laugh at me for refusing to eat Subway, but after growing up with Wegmans subs, the thought of Subway repulses me.

Also, I love that Wegmans has stepped up their specialty beer selection.  The only reason I'm giving it four stars is because I hope someday they'll offer the option of creating your own six-pack with any 6 beers of your choosing (like at The Party Source, but without the surly attitude).

Wegman's is like the disney land of grocery stores.  There are aisles and aisles of splendor.  Its the best selection of food I've ever seen in a grocery store - that's not just in central New York, but in ANY state I've ever lived in.

Anything from freshly prepared food to eat right there (I agree the sushi rocks), to hard to find ethnic and foreign foods.  Find all the best in staples like pasta sauce and bread and a produce section that puts many farmer's markets to shame.  It's great and worth along drive!

There aren't many things I miss about the 'Cuse, but Weggies is one of them. Especially the Fayetteville Wegmans.

How does one describe a Wegmans? Not only do they have your necessities, but also some fantastic prepped foods and all at reasonable prices...take THAT Whole Foods. And the customer service? Think of Nordstrom's but as a grocery store.

The reason I love the Fayetteville Wegmans so much is because it's the Wegmans I shopped at in High School and my during my brief residence in upstate NY after college so I have an affection for it. They are all pretty wonderful though.

I miss this place so much. There's just something about it's cleanliness, low prices, dining area ... and the fact that they make the best chocolate chip and sugar cookies ever.

Plus, they always have enough check-out lanes open, and they treat their employees very well.

Overall, Wegman's is such a great place to shop.

When I moved to Syracuse in the summer of '04, the only thing I heard from everyone who had ever been there was "you gotta go to Wegmans!"

As someone who didn't/doesn't care about grocery stores, i wasn't too excited.

I ended up getting an apartment about 1/4 mile from a Wegmans, up in Clay.  After the first time I went, I was a changed man.

The only thing I would say to someone from out of town when they came to visit was, "you gotta come see Wegmans!"

If you're hungover on a sunday, go to wegmans.  Hungry, but don't want to cook?  Go to wegmans.  Looking to make the freshest salad ever?  Wegmans.  There is nothing you could want out of a grocery store that wegmans doesn't have.

    Even perfection.

hate to be in the anti-wegmans minority, but i gotta do it. i was a die-hard wegman's fan for years, but there's just too many things that bug me about it now. before getting into dislikes, weggies does have its strong points...

    - quality of food: it's awesome. you really can't get better supermarket quality in cny. most specifically with produce and breads.

    - take-out: the chinese section and subs are both great (sushi can be hit or miss at times).

    - variety: local foods, good meats, a pretty solid international and asian foods section, good (albeit overpriced) beer selection, a great cheese selection, and random things you can't really find anywhere locally like goya plantain chips, zweigle's white hots, and coca-cola glass bottles imported from mexico with pure sugar cane. mmmmm...

BUT, it all comes with it's fair share of things i can't stand...

    - cost: basically everything that doesn't have a "wegmans" brand on it is totally overpriced. and they'll nickle and dime you into buying their own products - which more often than not, never stand up to the quality of the real brands (i.e. wegmans ketchup, wegmans oreos, wegmans detergent, don't compare at all to what they're imitating). yet the store brand will cost the same as you'd expect from the real brand at any other grocery store.

    - it's time consuming: checkouts are usually ok for the most part, but if i was going there for a small trip to get, say: deli meat, a toothbrush, paper towels, cereal, and milk, it takes 3 times as long as a normal trip to any other grocery store because it's so huge inside.

    - the automatic bottle return: it's definitely convenient, but only so if you're deliberately shopping at wegmans. they kind of indirectly suck you in by printing out a wegmans coupon for your returns, which while redemable for cash, is a bit of a rouse to purchase something there. and up until a year ago, they used to have some kind of random $0.05 charge for every individual receipt brought in. some crazy tax. quite shadey.

    - clientelle: statistically speaking, the demographic with more money is probably going to be shopping here rather than aldi's or p&c, but there's just such a snobbiness about some of the people that shop here (whether they show no fear in pulling out in front of you in the parking lot, or whether they walk in front of you with their shopping cart, or whether bring their screaming kids while showcasing poor parenting skillz). it can be a bit much at times, honestly. more often than not, it's quite apparent and annoying. and i feel like it doesn't really happen as often at other local grocery stores.

overall, it's a great chain. and i definitely go here if i feel the need to cook a really nice meal. but i prefer the smaller stores with more affordable prices.

I live close to, what I think is, the smallest Wegman's in the state.  Even though it's small, it still packs a lot in. When you have people on specialized diets it is a god send.  This particular one might not have the larger departments like the one in Clay or Cicero, but it still manages to have everything you need.
We have to buy many items for a low sodium diet and they have everything we need. Including being able to grab a chicken from the deli for a quick meal (the plain is low sodium!!)
Price wise, it's not cheap like Aldi, but then I have spent much more at Price Chopper and P and C.

they recently changed the layout of this wegmans (i think its even bigger now, if thats even possible).  lets begin with the cafe/restaurant area.  i wiiiiish my college dining hall were like the wegmans cafe.  they have sushi (and it's not too shabby! though overpriced for sure), fresh pasta, pizza, chinese food, and SUBS! holy shit, wegmans subs are stupid good!  they put quiznos and those other chains to shame.

ok now let's talk about the bakery.  fresh, homemade bread, bialis, and dont even get me started on the cheesy bread!  it's challah mixed with cheddar then baked into a big fluffy delicious loaf. (ps loaf is a gross word).  the bakery is awesome.

now we move on to the bulk candy section.  it's like willy wonka up in that bitch!  the aisle is sorted by color and consistency (gummies with the gummies, chocolate with the chocolate, nuts and popcorn with salty things, etc).  if youre slick you can "sample" a handful and security wont say anything to you...though that doesnt mean they dont see you (youre not that slick).  they have security cameras all up in that place

so now we move on to the organic/foreign foods aisles.  wegmans is one of the only places in syracuse you can get organic options and for a cheap price...though not THAT cheap.

the BEST thing about wegmans is it's open 24/7. after the party is the afterparty.  and by afterparty i mean wegmans.  hit it up when youre drunk/on drugs to get bulk candy and cheesy bread.

ps oh, but dont drive drunk

This is what a supermarket should be! Wegman's has all of my food needs & more all in one place. I shop at this Wegman's before heading back to New England. I especially enjoy Wegman's Market Cafe, which offers a great variety of prepared foods including prepared meals, soups, pizza, pasta, Asian foods, sushi bar, roasted chicken, subs, salad bar, and cooking demos. The food here is good quality and tasty. I enjoy the flavored coffees from the coffee/cappuccino bar. Wegman's even has "out of town" newspapers near the front of the store. I have to pick up a case of Wegman's Diet Cola & Root Beer before leaving.

This Wegman's has everything that I look for in a grocery store --a lot of fresh produce and a huge selection of various organic products.  I'm not a fan of buffets but Wegman's buffet beats any other I've seen.  They offer many types of cuisine and from the looks of the crowd its good eatin'.   This Wegman's also has a Kosher deli and offers pizza by the pie or pie slice.

I don't like that you have to get a Wegmans card to get the "extra" discount on certain items.  Wegman's has a lot of variety compared to most grocery stores.

I wouldn't call Wegman's a grocery store... It's more of an amusement park, prices might be a little higher than others, but it's definately worth it. Clean, incredible selection, great prepared foods, open 24 hours... what else can you ask for?
