I lived in Carrboro for two years, and to this day, when I talk about Carrboro to whomever will listen to me, Weaver St. Market usually comes up in the first minute.

Eat Breakfast here on a Sunday morning and you'll see what this town is all about. Community and good food is what it's all about. And kids and interesting characters. Community and good food and kids and interesting characters is what Carrboro is all about.

But seriously, why wait forever at Elmo's when you can grab some whole grain flapjacks with grade B maple syrup right here? Grade B is the highest grade in maple syrup, people.

When I first moved to Carrboro, I came to the Weave at night and wrote a play at one of its tables, emailing it to a contest in Chapel Hill via its free wifi, a contest in which I got second place. Why did I come in second? Because it was in Chapel Hill, and I was a Carrboro man. And as such, I would go nowhere else to get my cinnamon roles than Weaver St Market. Same goes for chocolate chip cookies.

The End?

Relaxing place to grab a 6 pack and chill. Good first impression to Carrboro. I'll definitely be back to see what else this town has to offer.

Mmmm...  I don't really get it.  I mean... Weaver Street is a good co-op grocery, but why do people talk about it like it's the most amazing thing they've ever seen in the whole world?  Frankly, I think they could do a lot better with their selection of non-produce items.  And they could definitely bring down the prices a bit.  I'm all for local co-ops, but it freaks me out when people get fanatical about things the way they are about Weaver Street.

Nevertheless.  This place is a great grocery store in most aspects: they have a large selection of specialty cheeses, a pretty good local beer section, and excellent bread and cookies.   I just wish it wasn't all so damned expensive.

OVERRATED.  It's got a nice theme of healthy, organic, etc, etc. but the food isn't that great.

I'd second what Nick F. said: it is hard to talk about Carrboro and not mention Weaver Street.  This place is a grocery store, cafe/restaurant, and all around community hang out (gratis wifi!).  If you want to understand why people choose to live in Carrboro sit out on the lawn for breakfast some morning.

The foods here are good, including lots of local produce, meat, and dairy products.  The beer selection is notable, too.   But if you had to ask me what really sets Weaver Street apart, the croissants would be at the top of the list.  Get yourself there right at 7:30AM and grab a super-fresh plain, chocolate or almond croissant and enjoy it outside on the lawn.  Seriously good (as in as good as in France).  Makes me wonder why I ever left Carrboro!

sitting under a tree at weaver street, drinking an organic soda, and watching children pet strangers' fluffy puppies is one of the things that makes life worth living. this is the best place to hang out on a sunny day.

Mega overpriced as expected..but it's very unique and a great place to go and hang outdoors. You can even buy beer or wine and drink that in the lawn.

Weekend brunch time is turbo-crowded.

Weaver Street seems to be THE place my friends an I end up getting together when we're going to meet up in Chapel Hill/Carrboro. The store is for the most part a nice independent organic grocery store, but they have a pretty substantial  array of options in the way of a hot bar as well which make sit an excellent casual dinner choice when you're with friends.

Unlike most of Carrboro Weaver Street has a huge parking lot so parking isn't a huge issue. They also do music outside during the warmer months on weekends which can make for a pleasant afternoon.

Weaver Street Market is truly the heart of Carrboro, it is really nice to see a small community with a true center like this place. A far better than average selection of typical co-op fare, but to me, the magic of Weaver street lies in the cafe and patio.

The hot bar serves breakfast, including buckwheat cakes, biscuits, scrambled eggs etc. better than any brunch buffet you will find anywhere around here, for $6.99 lb. Plus you can take it out onto the patio/courtyard to enjoy and watch the fascinating Carrboro scene go by. The entire town of Carrboro enjoys free wireless, so a great place to escape the cubicle and get a little work done.

You've got all kinds at "The Weave"-- grunge types, sorority/fraternity peeps, "the granolas" (uber natural people) and all different nationalities and races.  It's so much fun to just go there and people watch.  They have this big "yard" if you will in the front with seating and an open area where kids and some adults play and dance.

In the summer months, there is a band on Thursday nights and an afternoon jazz session on Sundays too.  It's relaxing and exciting at the same time with all the people there's excitement, but with a well maintained outdoor environment it's also relaxing.

The quality of the food bar is good-- the items change from time to time.  They have a great brunch on the weekends with eggs, huevos rancheros, multi-grain pancakes regular pancakes and other items.

They have a great wine and beer selection, although I'm more partial to wines.  The cheese selection is awesome and includes local favorites like Chapel Hill Creamery and Celebrity Dairy.

I give them 4 stars because the indoor seating area isn't always maintained and kept tidy-- granted people are coming in and out, but I've been there for a couple of hours before and no one comes through to straighten tables and chairs or wipe them down.

Remember when I said that Carr Mill was the beating heart of Carrboro in many ways?  Well, Weaver Street is it in all the rest of the ways.

I had heard of Weaver Street Market for a long time before actually going there, and I dreaded it.  As someone with a less-than-average tolerance for the self-righteous droning of uber-hippies, I didn't think I would do well here.  Man, was I surprised.

For the most part, Weaver Street is just like any other grocery store.  Anything you can find at Harris Teeter, you can find here (without all the unnecessary brand duplication).  However, they've added tons of stuff, most of it organic or whatnot.  I was particularly impressed with the rows and rows of plastic dispensers full of dried goods that you can pour out like you would coffee beans or gumballs.  There's a lot to love here.

The cafe is also excellent, with unusually wholesome, tasty selections at a moderate price.

The main attraction comes right outside, where rows of picnic tables and a large open area attract all the ne'er-do-wells of the neighborhood to talk, sing, dance, and worship Satan (that's what my priest says, anyway).  It's actually not a bad time at all.  Come on by.

Here I go, tearing down the heart and soul of little Carrboro...

This place pretty much epitomizes everything that pisses me off about liberals. A "co-op" (you would never know with the rip-off prices that actually manage to top whole foods--no small feat), all white smug hippies and plenty o' SUVs in the parking lot. Love it.

And I'm sorry, did some one actually review about all of their organic produce? Because every time I go there, i wind up buying nothing but on its way out, old, conventional produce, and paying organic prices.

This place just wreaks of fauxhemian pretense. I live literally 5 minutes walking distance, and yes, i refuse to partake in the mayhem of Thursday evenings (aka crazed whities frantically poaching parking spots in the Harris Teeter lot) and I also refuse to shop here unless its a matter of necessity. I'd rather drive to whole foods or stop there in Raleigh on my way home. Either way, it's far superior for selection of food (and those of you who cook--buying food from their take out section is not cooking--can feel me) for minimal smug factor, and it helps me forget about the fact that there is nothing else to do in this town but buy GROSS, overpriced pre-made food and "hang out" at Weaver street.

Two stars for their bread, nice fish guy and decent bulk section. That's where I draw the line.

We came today to pick up their world famous carrot cakes to bring as a dessert for tonight's Christmas Eve dinner. I was starving, so I insisted on getting some soup and I got a veggie and chicken soup in the large soup container, which was only $3.75. It really hit the spot. My dad got the veggie chili and we brought one home for my brother. I also tried some of the veggie chili and it was also good and spicy!!! Seriously if you bought these at Whole Foods, it would cost $6 a container. Weaver Street Market is such a great find and addition in Carrboro. Plus, since we are members, we get 5% off!

One of my main requirements for moving to another town is a local farmer's market and fresh, organic options at the grocery store.  Weaver Street Market is a gem!  This co-op market offers tons of organic produce, a great selection of groceries, baked goods, cheeses, and an amazing beer selection (micro brews abound).

We ate lunch there one afternoon (for a mere $4.95 a piece) and it felt like we were back home in the Bay Area eating at our local Whole Foods - albeit a much more laid back, country version of Whole Foods.

The market also acts as a great social gathering place with live music.  We had the good fortune of coming by on a Thursday evening, the grass lawn packed with locals, their dogs and their children, all gathered, eating ice cream and listening to some great bluegrass type music.  It was such a great feeling of community.  I can't wait to go back!!

I am in love with the town of Carrboro and am encouraged that a place like Weaver Street exists in the community.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I end up moving there one day!!

Obnoxious accountants fill up their SUVs with insanely expensive wilted lettuce and claim it tastes great because it's from Farmer Bob down the street.  Flies infest the hot food bar, but I guess that just adds to the appeal.

Again folks, locally grown and organic aren't inherently good...they're a means to great tasting meals.  Unfortunately, the hoola-hoop crowd forgot to import that part from San Francisco....Now move your damn Prius so I can shop at Harris-Teeter and CVS.

Very forward-thinking community co-op grocer. When I got over my fear of being attacked by other patrons for carrying a leather handbag, I quickly embraced Weaver Street. Coupled with our area farmers' markets, it's one of the best ways to strive for socially responsible food purchases. And besides that, they offer a buffet brunch and live music on Sunday. Bring the whole family and the dog and eat at their picnic tables or on the big front lawn; they'll have jazz or bluegrass playing. If it's not Sunday, no worries, there always seems to be something intriguing happening here -- the hula-hoop team, the hippie guy who practices chanting and yoga alone, a drive-by of bicycling car-protesters. Ah, Carrboro. They do wine tastings and specials on Friday, so sample some, buy a bottle, and then go pair it up with their excellent selection of cheese and some fresh bread from the house bakery.

I never did any full scale shopping for groceries at Weaver Street, so I can't say much of their groceries.  I do agree that it is expensive to grocery shop there, especially if you are not a member of the co-op. So this review is really for some of their prepared items/food bar.

I'm a big fan of their Saturday and Sunday breakfast bar.  Their breakfast bar usually consists of a selection of scrambled eggs, huevos rancheros, hash browns (sliced potatoes), plain or blueberry pancakes, french toast, and plain and cinammon-raisin oatmeal.  It is not something that you take a big group to go to, but my husband and I preferred to eat breakfast here than at a close by restaurant that is known for breakfast.  Yes, you have to wait in a long line if there's a backup at the grill, or if it's just plain busy, but the french toast is well worth it for me.  The food is priced per pound.  After you pay for your food, you have a choice of sitting inside or outside at tables and picnic tables.

I also like the bread there, especially the lemon-rosemary bread (2 sizes) and the olive bread.

My most favorite of all: the vegan chocolate chip cookies.  And I am definitely not a vegan.

We once got a chocolate cake that was dry and we couldn't even finish it.  That prevented us from trying anything else in the refrigerated dessert/cake case.

Parking here is difficult especially on a weekend, but usually we do find a spot in the lot without resorting to parking at Harris Teeter.

I used to go here all the time for dinner. Great hot food bar. Also, great wine and cheese selection. There's an amazing red pepper cheese... it goes great with the olive loaf there. Also, thursdays (i don't know if this is still true) they have live music in the evening... and you can have wine and dinner out on the lawn. and you can bring you dog... it's awesome!

Hipster central, with an attached grocery store and cafe. They're both quite good, if you like natural/organic/etc foods and can escape that nagging feeling of not being cool/hippie enough to shop there.

EDIT: Not actually fairly pricey if you do it right! You have to compare prices though. Whatever kind of fruit they have on special, for instance, is usually about $1/pound cheaper than the same thing at Harris Teeter.

Weaver Street was the original natural/organic grocery in town, preceding Wellspring/Whole Foods, and it was clearly ahead of its time.  These days, it's known just as much for the dancing Carrboro folk, spending sunny days on the lawn, than it is for its food.  I don't go too much anymore now that I'm in Durham, but I used to head over mainly for the excellent breakfast bar and the tasty cookies and brownies (not the gluten-free, vegan, carob ones, or what have you).  Whole Foods, and especially Trader Joe's, often offer better deals for more routine items.

My favorite place to eat and shop in the Triangle area.  The prepared foods, hot bar, and salad bar are all excellent.  They've got a great, eclectic beer and wine selection.  And, best of all, they are opening a new store in Hillsborough, right down the street from my house!

Wonderful selection of organic and natural foods, including a great (albeit expensive) produce section. They also have killer pastries and desserts, which I actually prefer over the hot bar if I wander in for breakfast. (The hot bar always seems dried out and lukewarm to me.) Delish croissants, muffins, pastries and breads....perfect with a cup of coffee! Get there early if you want a table, or find a spot on the grass outside.

In the wintertime this place is barely tolerable. In the summertime you can count the fly prints on their cake frosting. Overpriced, wilted, smelly organic produce combined with KW cafeteria style. One point for looking very classy from 200 yards away.

Weaver Street Market is a social hub for Carrboro and a decent place to grab food from the salad bar or hot bar and take in the people watching.  Live music on Thursdays and Sundays (seasonal).  I spent a lot of time here while I lived in Carrboro and almost always ran into a friend there whether I was shopping, studying over a coffee, or indulging my laziness about cooking and eating dinner there for $5.  It beats most markets that I've been to and I loved the social aspect of hanging out with the other denizens of the area.

Locals should check it out, because not every town has a place like this.  For me, it's a split decision: I like eating meals that don't revolve around a slab-of-meat; on the other hand, hippies stress me out.  But, the hippies weren't too overpowering, and the salad/hot bar price was very reasonable.

Wonderful, fantastic coop in an excellent North Carolina town. Love the selection of freshly cooked food to go for breakfast or lunch, the coffee/tea bar, and the grocery items. I wish I had a place like this in my town - we have our co-ops, but you have to go to one to get something and another to get something else - WSM has it all in one. Very nice people, excellent service, great community with wonderful gathering space outside for a picnic or to dance to live music. More places in the country need a Weaver Street Market and I think we'd all be a lot happier and healthier.

I generally like this market, and can usually find everything on my shopping list here.  I particularly like the meat selection - you can always find a worker there who can give you details on the grower if you are interested. I like the fresh breads as well. I haven't been offended by the cleanliness factor yet, and I also do not usually partake of the cold and hot bars. The reviews about WSM (17 as I post this) kind of sums up the type of people you find there.  When I lived on the other coast, these were the same types who would only shop at Berkeley Bowl for the organic local produce, but who would angrily fight another person for a parking spot to the point of calling the police. Why the anger?  Why the hate?
