The early bird special is the greatest when you need a sushi fix and none of your friends wanna go out. I always walk back home from the library and find a reason to stop in for the deal. Rice, miso soup, five pcs of any fish, seaweed salad and a roll. Insane. I want to eat it every nite.

Came to WeBe before a night out in the Mission.  I had fond memories of their Geary shop before they closed it down.  I remember them as cheap, simple, and pretty good.  This experience kind of wrecked all those memories.  First, the venue - I can understand it's in the mission, but it looked like a dirty cafeteria, and sitting in the back where I could see the sushi prep, it didn't look all that sanitary.  It's still cheap - in fact, I think it's cheaper than the one I used to frequent, but I don't think it was very fresh as I had a fishy taste in my mouth the rest of the evening.

I ordered a sushi dinner combo - the nigiri that came out were not what was listed on the menu for whatever reason, and I think they shortchanged me on a piece.  Also, the shittake roll was pretty gross, I think I tasted cream cheese in there - some ppl like it in rolls, but I'm not a fan.  My amaebi, while really cheap, did not come with the fried heads.  Now that I think of it, I guess I feel lucky that the uni we ordered was not spoiled.

The servers are nice, and WeBe really is cheap, but with so many sushi options out there, you can find better, even at this price.  And just to be clear, CASH ONLY.

We Be Sushi is about as good as it gets when it comes to sushi in the Mission. Quick, not too dirty, good-tasting, and served with a slight smile, even.

I'm not telling you, by any means, to go to this one, between 21st and 22nd on Valencia, over the location down toward 16th. No, you didn't just hear that from me. Srsly, go to that one.

That said, I cannot vouch for the 16th/Valencia edition of We Be.

Nothing too fancy here: A couple of signature rolls, standard-fare nigiri, maki, and sashimi. But what I like are the details. Miso with every order; hot, salted edamame; no ice-cream-scoop-size wasabe.

So, when you're in the Mission and looking for cheap, solid sushi, go here, or, you know, to the one by 16th.

Aw this sushi restaurant has a special place in my heart.  It's nice and simple and I like this one better than other branch at 16th.  Small and reminds me of little okazuyas in Hawaii.  Sushi is always delicious and fresh and service is good.  This is my local neighborhood favorite Japanese food place.  Prices are VERY reasonable and I've never been disappointed with any of my orders.  Very legit and just what you need for a sushi fix.

When I lived in the Mission a few years ago, this place was always the fall back if the line at Puerto Allegre was too long.  Good to see that not a lot has changed since I moved away 5+ years ago.  I was in SF for a 24 hour period and was itching for some margs and good Mexican so we strolled down to Valencia.  As expected, at 9PM on a Wed night, the line for Puerto Allegre was long.  We opted for this place almost by default.  The service is good, I was happy that our waitress spoke Japanese and the food was fine.  I was famished from my travels so this plus a few bottles of Asahi and saki went down great.

This place is a pretty small hole in the wall. Hence, waiting for a table of 3 took way longer than it would be if we'd only been 2 people.

Their dinner menu was expensive, only because we arrived after the happy hour had already finished. This isn't to say, however, that the quality of their rolls and fish wasn't excellent.

I got the dragon roll and some regular tuna to go with it. Both were really good. The dragon roll didn't skimp on the eel whatsoever and was impressively displayed on my plate. The tuna sashimi was fresh, and came in a pretty generous portion.

Overall this place was really enjoyable, but I'll shop around some more before I go back.

Not super fancy at all.  There's a white lady and a filipino lady working there, which is different for a japanese place, but there are japanese people there (we don't like those chinese owned jap restaurants).  But it is cheap and pretty good, especially for veggies.  They have more than just avocado rolls, kna-mean!  Oooh, and Stephie thinks they have the best Ume (plum) maki in the city.  She's tried them in other restaurants, and they're just not as good.  The fish didn't look like the best of the best, but Stephie's pretty sure noone's dying.

Mikey ordered a not-so-large large sapporo, and they charged him $6 for it. An outrage!

The sushi here rocks for the price.
I have to say though that the cooked food that I've had here not only takes forever to come, but seems always to be very dry.
Whatever, what kind of dumb ass orders chicken teriyaki when there is sushi to be had?
Me, that's boo-who.

I'm rating this mostly on the happy-hour, though the normal prices and everything are fine.

This is my sushi happy hour spot. For $7.95, you get steamed rice, miso soup, seaweed salad (or spinach if you have no taste in good food), a six-piece Valencia roll and YOUR CHOICE of five-piece Nigiri sushi.

It's a lot of freaking food, and I've never been able to finish it. ...and it's good. Soooo super wonderful amazin' tastin'.

There are decent vegetarian options, too. They weren't too finicky when my vegetarian friend wanted to substitute a veggie roll instead. She seemed pleased :)

The atmosphere is pretty nifty, too. Lots of neat-o things on the walls, interesting posters, unique artwork. It's cozy as hell, too, and I absolutely love the door (the type where you can open the top or the bottom or both).

I imagine it's pretty busy at night, though. I can't be sure...the one time I went at night, I was pretty drunk.

So it goes.

I never came back (and was put off by all sushi for months) after being served 3  different rolls (tuna, california and salmon) that had a STRONG fishy odor.

It's too bad, because the prices are good, the decor funky, the service friendly.

By far one my my favorite sushi spots in the city...

We always order sushi... never had the cooked food.

We order Hamachi Sashimi as if it were the only thing on the menu. Their hamachi is so fresh and tasty. I've been to other places and nothing compares to We Be Sushi's

I Loved their 275 roll.... that is until they removed it from the menu. The 275 roll costs $2.75 and it consisted in fish with parmesean cheese in a sushi roll. Never new something this simple can taste soooo good!!

Can't go wrong with any of their sushi....

Thier bottomless hot tea is a plus.... and it's free.

The only reason I removed a star is because of the soliciting mariachis that come by while you're trying to enjoy your food. Imagine sitting in a japanese restaurant having a good time and eating.... and then the next minute you're being serenaded by a member of a mariachi band who sings one song in a foreign language and comes around with a bag so you can donate money for the song he just sang that you didn't understand. Sorry.... but if I wanted to hear the mariachi band.... I would've gone to the taqueria.

Parking can be a little tricky in this area also.

Yummy sushi in my tummy. I love this place. Inexpensive and delicious. Sometimes it can be a bit crowded and the bathroom is in a bit of an inconvient spot but dinner for 4 for $40. I think there must have been a mistake. Maybe we weren't charged for our sake. I don't know but we all left full and delirious with joy. The service is good but if it is busy sometimes the food takes a little longer than a minute. More time for Sake I say. After going there I was chanting WE BE SUSHI for days.

I don't know what it is, but every time I go here to start my night, I end up having a fun night :-)
Maybe it's the sake. Boy that stuff sneaks up on you.
We Be just does a great job in such a city typical - bathroom through the kitchen - hear your neighbors entire conversation kind of way.
Sushi is fresh, tasty, service is fast and they always get it right.
One of my favorite hole in the wall mission sushi dives.

That was THE best miso soup I ever had.
Umm it was really Americanized....
Like, it had noodles and stuff in it.

$10 and I was stuffed: 6 pieces of nigiri sushi and 6 pieces of CA rolls, soup and rice. Yum!

Of course I have to comment on the bathroom and let me just say:
it's large,
clean,
has nice tiles on the floor
and is totally worth an extra half star.

Minus one star for tough seaweed and pushy waitress.

i went here on saturday night, it was probably close to 9ish. the four of us were seated right away, which is great.  i thought it was funny that my tea was served in a mug that looked like it was a free giveaway promo mug from some random place. there were lots of selections of different rolls, and my friends ordered a bunch for us.  if you are vegetarian, this is a good place to go, cuz there's lots of veggie rolls there. a little bit too many for me, because it limited the amount of actual fish sushi rolls. it also came with miso soup which was good, and endame which is always great. the rolls were good not great actually just ok. ive had better a lot of places. the thing i didnt like about this place was that these mariachi guys kept walking in, and playing right in my ear. then wanted $ for that afterwards. it was very hard to hear the conversation with that going on... at the same time, i suppose its a bit of mission character... mexican players in a sushi restaurant. overall, it was ok, but i'd never purposely go back here again, unless i was hungry and right next to it, like we were then. it's basic, but not great, cash only sushi place. i still had fun tho at sushi with the girls. :)

I've only been here once, and maybe it'll lose a star or three if I wake up booting tomorrow morning, but so far it seems to be pretty good for the price.

I ordered take-out on my way home after a long day at work and got the Tropical roll (smoked salmon skin, mango, cucumber, tobiko - 5.75$), mackerel nigiri (2.75$), and white tuna nigiri (2.75$).  I liked the Tropical roll, although it was hard to taste anything other than the smoked salmon skin.  Once in a while a bit of mango flavour would sneak in, but not as much as I would have hoped.  The white tuna wasn't that great; it was really fishy tasting.  The mackerel was also fishy tasting, but in that way that cheap mackerel is indeed fishy tasting, which I happen to like, so I did enjoy the mackerel.

The lady working there was super sweet, and brought me hot tea while I waited for my take out.  The place is pretty small and narrow, so it didn't look like it would be good for groups greater than 4 or so.  The early bird special looks intriguing, I'll definitely be back to try that some time.  While it wasn't the most amazing sushi I've ever had, it was quite good for the cheap price, plus there are a million things to choose from, and it's close to where I'm staying right now, so 4 stars from me.  Cash only!

We Be Sushi aka We Be A Mediocre Experience

My dining partner and I thought we would head out to dinner a little early on Friday night to avoid a long line - we had been wanting to try We Be Sushi and had noticed the *very* small dining space the few times that we had passed by.  I was pleased at the 15 minute wait, which was about 15 minutes.  Usually you go somewhere and 15 minutes can mean 30 depending on the restaurant and the night.

Unfortunately, since there was a man sitting in front of the menu most of the time we were waiting outside, we failed to see the "CASH ONLY" sign until 2 minutes before we were seated.  So, I was seated while my partner made a mad dash to the ATM.  That sign REALLY needs to be bigger.

Inside, I noticed that there were quite a few tables that were placed only a few inches away from each other because of the size of the restaurant - and I was immediately seated next to a young boy and what looked like his mother.  He was talking loudly on his cell phone, so I was lucky when I was able to move to a table on the opposite wall where there wasn't another table two inches from me!

Anyway, my dining partner returned and we ordered small beers.  He ordered tuna and I ordered the chicken dinner.  He said that his tuna tasted like it had been swimming in the holding tank too long and that it was still a little frozen in the middle - even though it should have been served at room temperature.  As for my dinner, I liked my miso soup and I really enjoyed the rice.  The chicken was a little crispy on the outside but really tender.  There was a large portion of salad that had a tangy citrus dressing that was tasty.  My partner and I were able to share my dinner with only a little salad left over.

There were GOOD elements to our dinner: like the cold beer, wall decorations, and my chicken dinner.

Things I would PASS on again if I had the chance:  the restaurant being so small, the sushi, and their cash only policy.

I am not impressed with this place.  Im not going to say it was horrible but I think with the gazillion sushi places in the city this is not even close to being one of the best.  The service was great I'll give it that.  But the sushi menu was lacking.  When I asked if we could kind of create a roll the waitress said we could add to a roll but for the most part they are pre-rolled which I am not a fan of.  There were also onions in the Miso soup which is a downfall for me.  The fish was not the freshest but not disgusting by any means.  The spicy tuna roll is spicy which is a plus and not because it was doused in spicy sauce.  The prices were reasonable but I probably won't be back.

Horrible!  I've ate there twice because of convenience.  I got sick twice!  First time was a exorcist vomit, second was exorcist vomit from the toosh!  I ordered the We Be Chicken combo both times along with the Rock N' Roll and Spicy Tuna roll.  The rolls were just insulting.  The filling was not center, they were pushed off to one side with about a 4:1 ratio of rice to Unagi.  I realized why that is when I went back the second time around.  They have Mexicans making the rolls!  I understand most restaurants have Mexicans working in the back but at Japanese restaurants they have at least a Asian one making the rolls but this place was bold, they had the Mexican right in front of all customers making the "rolls"!

I will never in my life order from them again.  The only Asian workers there that I saw were the 2 waitresses.  Not to mention the chicken was over cooked.  The rice that came with the chicken teriyaki was perfect but the sushi rice was more like stale porridge.  I would more likely be anorexic than eat there ever again!

They open at 11:45am, and they've got a nice vegetarian special, with miso soup, seaweed salad (if you want it), and other accoutrements, and if you order tea with it, the total with tip comes to like $8, which is ridiculously cheap for something fairly tasty.

And the service is great.

It was ok. Didn't like the miso soup, which is a make or break for my sushi experience. They put onions in it....

I want to like this place because the waitress lady was sooo sweet. I'm hoping to find a better sushi restaurant soon because I need a fix.

I guess I can only see myself going back in an emergency. But that seems unlikely given there are several other places nearby. You get the idea...

I'll make it known that I am not a sushi lover. I am trying to find my inner Nigri but it has been a long and hard fought battle. Regardless, I dined at WeBe Sushi to experience a local restaurant favorite. I stayed safe and went with the vegetarian Udan Noodle Bowl. The meal starts with Miso soup and spinach salad.

The spinach salad was amazing and I would eat it by the truck load. The miso soup was tasty but contained one of the scariest vegetables (is it a vegetable?) seaweed. I have a difficult relationship with seaweed. Mostly because I don't like it. Maybe too many summers at the beach sunburning and trying to escape that omnipresent chunk that inevitably wraps around your foot and makes you think for a split second you are being attacked by a sea urchin. Anyways, seaweed is not high on my list so the Miso was alright at best.

The Udon Noodle Bowl on the other hand was quite good. The bowl was enormous and I couldnt finish it which is saying something. The noodles had a great texture and the tempura was very light and flaky.  Overall I was very happy and walked out feeling very full but not gross. Unfortunately WeBe does not offer much more non-fish related items than I have tried so I probably won't be back.

So we were doing our laundry around the corner from here and we got hungry, so we tried it.  Smells like fish in there and not necessarily in a good way (is there a good way?).  We got a bunch of various rolls and one of them tasted ok, but the rest were pretty bad and One was so nasty we didn't even eat it.  We've had some pretty shitty sushi before, but rarely do both of us not even touch one whole roll.  I think it was straight up Chicken of the Sea.  And as embarrassing as it is to admit this, I feel compelled to announce that I had to take an emergency shit at the Walgreens shortly afterward.  That star is for the sign, and the name.    Of course I should have known you'll get what you ask for when you eat at a place called We Be Sushi.

The sushi is cheap and you get what you pay for.  The fish was decent enough.  The sake nigiri was good but I couldn't finish my hamachi (it was tasted off and was too chewy)  The roll was decent and the price is right.

It's in my neighborhood so I'll go back if i'm short on cash and need my sushi fix.  If money is no object Kiji is definitely a better bet.

Cheap sushi.  Isn't that a kind of oxymoron?

I'm puzzled by this place.  It's cheap, sure.  I love cheap. Cheap makes me all hot and bothered.

But cheap SUSHI?  Does not compute.  Danger!  Danger, Will Robinson!!

And it's truly a case of "you get what you pay for" when you gamble with discount priced sushi.  This place is definitely hit or miss.

I'd avoid going on peak hours or weekends, however, or you'll be waiting on the sidewalk in the "colorful" Mission district for at least 40 minutes.

Apparently, I'm not the only one in San Francisco that's turned on by cheap food.

Oh, We Be Sushi, why must you be cash only?

This is the sushi place I come to most often, but mostly by default because it's the closest one to my house.

I'm not much of a sushi expert so I can't really comment there, but they've got the usual: ebi, unagi, uni, kappa, etc. Nothing spectacular.

They always serve miso soup.

P.S. My uni is better.

Should be more like "We Be Sucky." This place blows the fat one. I'd sooner eat a brown bruised up bannana that fell off one of the many fruit stands on Valencia and landed on top of the gutter.
