SOOOOOOO Yummy!!!  Beautiful place, too!  Thanks fellow yelpers for guiding me to this delicious find :)  We were looking for a really good sushi place & This Is It.  We had the Spider Roll (10pieces)- great, the California Roll (8pieces) - good, the Tempura Sweet Potato Roll (6pieces)- Unbelievable!!, and the Wazzabi Scallop appetizer (4pieces)- OMG!!!!
We shared the Pineapple/Coconut dessert & even that so super delish!
All that plus 2 imported beers came to $50.
    We'll be back for more!

For the life of me, I couldn't understand why this place got 4 stars.

We stopped in for lunch today and it was all I could do to not start yelling at the top of my lungs for better service, attention AND sushi.  The fish was definitely not fresh.  The sushi chef never even greeted us even though we sat at the bar and were the only customers there.  The selection of rolls, totally uninspired.  It was freezing cold.

I mean, all in all, the place was a huge disappointment, and on my 40th birthday to top it all off.

Stay away from this place and don't believe the hype.  If you are a true sushi lover and connoisseur, you will mos definitely be wasting your time and money going to this place.

I have heard about this place forever but never got the change to try it until a couple  weeks ago. Ambiance - Walking in the ambiance is very hip and nice.

Wait Staff -  Surprisingly the place was very busy for 7:30 on a Tuesday night. The waitress we had was very good. She told us that happy hour was just ending and if we wanted to order a couple of rounds now that she would make sure they all ended up being the happy hour price. She received points for that.

Food - Excellent! I enjoyed 4 out of the 5 rolls that we ordered. The 5th wasn't bad, it just wasn't my cup of tea.

Price - They don't have any happy hour deals for sushi rolls. Luckily I had purchased a $25 for $50 deal from a website. Our bill was around $75 before the price reduction. I don't think I would come here again unless I had another deal.

The only reason I gave this restuarant 3 out of 5 stars is because we had to wait almost a hour for our sushi rolls. The waitress checked up on us numerous times to apologize. Apparently, they weren't prepared for the number of customers they had that night.

Located near Winter Park Village. Trendy spot for sushi or hibachi.  Been there a few times for dinner. Great food and service, and specialty rolls are delicious!  Love it!

Wazzabi is a nice looking restaurant inside and out. Generally speaking, the sushi is about average in price with the smaller rolls coming in at around $10 and the slightly larger special rolls coming in at $12-$14.

We came in for a late lunch, and unfortunately the posted hours on Yelp did not specify that they close at 2pm and reopen later for dinner. It was 1:45 and we didn't want to be obnoxious, so we turned around to leave.  They hostess stopped us and told us that they'd be happy to serve us since they had a literal bus load come in as a group and they weren't getting ready to leave any time soon. I thought it was nice of them to serve us when they didn't have to.

We were absolutely starving, and ordered four rolls: Tail Lover, Wazzabi, Gumbo, and Firecracker [see photo].  Generally speaking, they were all great, although occasionally we noticed that the rolls were a little too loose which caused a couple of catastrophic structural failures. The Gumbo roll had several types of fish and comes with a tasty ponzu sauce for dipping, the firecracker has a good kick to it with a slice of jalapeño on top, and the Wazzabi was unique with a bit of cilantro.  The Tail Lover, consisting largely of hamachi inside and out, was a little fishier tasting than what I've come to expect from high quality hamachi.

Overall, the sushi was worth a solid 3+ stars but the nice interior of the place and (especially) the exceptional service puts it over the top for a 4-star sushi experience.

This Winter Park sushi restaurant is trendy and attractive, with excellent service and an impressive menu.  Lunch specials are quite a deal.  There were four of us dining there today, ordering two appetizers, edamame and gomaae, which was different from the usual, as Wazzabi uses broccoli in place of spinach.

Lunch deals include a Bento box or roll, miso soup or a salad and four pieces of sushi or sashimi, which was my choice.  The four pieces of sashimi (chef's choice) were tuna, yellowtail, and two pieces of salmon.  My roll was shrimp tempura, surprisingly sweet but not off-puttingly so.

Wazzabi is another of the "cool" feng-shuied Japanese restaurants, if that's your preference in atmosphere.  If not, try the more down-to-earth feel of Fuji Sushi nearby.

I've been coming here for a few years now and while the service seems to have gotten excruciatingly slow, the food still keeps me coming back for more.

    Some favorites:

Tuna Fire Balls - Yellowfin mixed with jalapenos and cream cheese. Loooove the sauce. I'm not too embarrassed to admit that I even ate all the garnish on this plate just so I could sop up some more of that sauce.

Wazzabi Crusted Scallops - Good...super hot on the inside so make sure you let them cool off a bit, unlike impatient me.

Full Sail Roll - One of my favorite rolls for it's fresh simple flavor. It has a good amount of crunch too and is very satisfying.

Firecracker Roll - Spicy yum. I love anything with jalapenos.

Heaven Roll - Um... heavenly?! The tempura topping is so good!

Crunchy Wazzabi Roll - A yellowfin tuna roll with a topping of wasabi peas. This one doesn't have a lot of bite like you would think, but it's perfect the way it is!

Dessert Roll - Just like it sounds... a sweet fruit topped roll. Perfect ending to the meal!

Tip: The boats here are a really good deal and they include some of their signature rolls. So if you can't make up your mind, go for one of those to share with the table.

Great food and cool/funky atmosphere.  I've dined here for dinner since they opened and every meal has been great. You can order sushi, a meal or go into the Hibachi room for a "Japanese steakhouse" experience. This room books up, so plan on a reservation.

Bar is great, some different martinis and sakes to try. There is a nice outdoor seating area off of the bar, usually some type of live music at night. This area fills up quickly, so plan on arriving early if you want to hang out for awhile.

Have enjoyed prompt service at the bar, regular dining and the Hibachi room. Food has always been delicious.

I recently tried a lunch bento special for take out, food was *wonderful*. What a great deal.

I love this place.  We used to go here at least once a week for their lunch menu and have a drink while we were at it.  I usually got the Cali Special roll (california with crab salad), which was always great - however it's kani, not r-c.  Still delicious though!
I also loved their rainbow roll. The fish is fresh tasting and they definitely don't skimp on the stuff on top.

One thing is that it's always severely cold in here, so bring a sweater. You get a choice of water or tea and the tea is free.  In all, their lunch specials are great, the service isn't horrible and the sushi here is delicious.  Next time I'm in Orl. I'll be back here!

Great atmosphere and delicious sushi, price is decent for its sushi rolls. Definitely a great place for a nice date!!

I give it 3 because I thought the service was poor. First time it took forever to get our food and another eternity long wait to get matcha ice cream (seriously!!).

Second time I went there it was fast to get our food but our server was kinda pushy trying to get us to order more stuff.

    Great food, service needs improvement!!

Wazzabi I love you so! I had my Orlando birthday party here, and had lunch or dinner at least once a week! I love sitting at the sushi bar. You get full attention from the sushi chefs. I even have a favorite. Von is my sushi man! He makes the best rolls and even invents some special ones for me to try. I love their dedication to making the sushi. The ones with mango and strawberries also compliment the different types of specialty rolls. My favorites, Buddha roll and Dessert roll with coconut flakes and mango yum! The miso soup is pretty decent too. I dont usually get it anywhere else.
Something I have to have every time is the chocolate lava cake with green tea ice cream!!!!!! Hope this makes you want to go there now!

Service is slow if you do not sit at sushi bar. Especially during lunch hours.

The whole experience was full of attitude from the staff. Wazzabi - have you ever heard of "the customer is always right"? How about common courtesy? Smiling?

Some friends picked Wazzabi for dinner for the one night I was in town so that we could share in our favorite type of meal: hibachi. When I lived in Orlando we frequented other locations but they wanted to try something new.

I arrived at Wazzabi a little early for my dinner meetup with friends. They have a valet which seems like more of a "we're so awesome we have to have valet" than a necessity for the location. The place seemed only moderately busy with plenty of open tables, as well as open hibachi tables/seats, so instead of having the hostess take my name I just sat at the bar waiting for my notoriously late friends.

I ordered the Shark Bite (?) which was probably the only good thing about the evening. The drink was fruity and strong! But I felt silly drinking it- would opt for the classier choice next time (wine). The bartender was very friendly and helpful with the drink menu. Props to that girl!

When my two friends arrived (15 minutes late = typical), we asked the hostess to be seated. When she went "looking" for a table (what good hostess does that), I remembered that I failed to tell her we wanted to be seated for hibachi. When she came back I mentioned this and she gave me the snottiest look and with her rude voice she said "We're booked for hibachi".

The three of us turn our heads right and see PLENTY of open seats and tables at hibachi. Ummm... what do you mean you're completely booked? We told her that's the only reason we came and she stared at us blankly. What a b... She could have taken on a more compassionate tone. We stood there for a few seconds trying to figure out if we wanted to go somewhere else- but that would require having their fancy valet go get the car they JUST parked. So we opted to stay and try to find something on the menu to appease us non-sushi lovers.

When she sat us down at a table, she told us we could order off the hibachi menu at the table (again, in a condescending tone). We noticed that ordering off the hibachi menu at a table is an 18% surcharge... I assume because they want the hibachi chefs to work and be paid, but geez, she wouldn't LET us sit at a table, what are we supposed to do?

In the end there was nothing good on the menu that appealed to people who don't eat sushi, so we indeed opted for the hibachi. I had the sirloin, and it was probably the worst hibachi I've ever had. The steak was well done (not medium as I requested), the fried rice was... soggy... it was really terrible.

Oh and our server.... I asked him how fresh the fish was and he said, "it's fresh". Okay, no- I want to know WHEN it was flown in to the restaurant. He said, "I mean it's fresh enough....sometime this week I guess". Seriously?? There is a big difference in fish being flown in TODAY versus yesterday versus 5 days ago (i.e. "this week").  He thought he was being funny, but I did not appreciate it. How can a restaurant that serves RAW FISH not have their servers aware of when the fish came in???

My take on Wazzabi is that all they care about is glitz and glamour- and maybe that's only what their customers care about too. The staff is condescending and rude, the food is terrible, and who knows how old the fish is. But hey- you're eating dinner out with your closest bffs dressed in hoochie dresses in Winter Park, so who cares?!

Really the only reasons I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that 1) I'm not a huge fan of their decor and 2) I wish they had more rolls.

Everything I've had at Wazzabi has been great! Really fresh sushi and yummy rolls, but sometimes I have a hard time finding a roll that sounds like it will be amazing. I've never been disappointed with my choices, though!

Also, their hibachi is yuummmmm! Gotta love fried rice with the white sauce! (or shrimp sauce... not sure what they call it around here!) Terryaki chicken is my yummy fattening indulgence meal! Haha. Can't let myself eat it too often, but I'd eat it several times a week if I could!

Like I said, I don't love the decor. It's kinda cheesy to me. Like they're trying too hard to be super trendy, or something. Sitting outside is nice, but their weird tree trunk tables and stools can be uncomfortable in some spots.

I've never had a problem with the service here, either! Really dependable, especially if you have a party of people who don't all enjoy sushi, the hibachi is a great option!

I began eating sushi way back in 1980 when the very first sushi bar opened in Orlando, Tokyo House off of Colonial Drive. Now, some 30 years later, the Orlando sushi scene finally got a little style to go with it's unagi.

Prior to Wazzabi, most places just served solid, fresh sushi and sashimi, but without any sense of flair. No inventive rolls. No flashy décor. Well, that's all over, because Wazzabi is that kind of place. The kind you'd expect to find in Miami or LA. But they aren't just for show. The food is as good or better than just about any other sushi joint in the county.

The atmosphere is pretty modern here.  I have only tried the sushi here, and not the habachi so this is what i write my review towards.

When we got there, there was a "free valet" parking option... our first thought was "cool!", which led to "if it's free, that means i have to tip the guy...".  Which is fine if you're trying to impress your date...  otherwise, you can find parking just beyond the valet parking lot - drive straight through the valet, and onto the lot across the street (FREE!)

If anyone has eaten great sushi, they will know that the rice makes ALL the difference.  The rice quality was poor.  Normally, you would taste the sweetness of the rice vinegar, and where the texture of rice grains could be distinguished.  The rice in the sushi here was mush, and had no flavour.  That was my only gripe.

I had the beef nagi maki which was pretty interesting.
The rolls i ordered were: spider roll, budhha roll, spicy mango roll, and jade dragon roll.  The rolls were creative, especially spicy mango roll, which sounded good, but didn't have the taste to match it.  Spider roll was allright, but seems like the guy doing the deep frying couldn't make the softshell crab crispy.  However, the price is very reasonable for all the rolls.

To sum up: pros - creative rolls, good pricing, good atmosphere
    cons: bad sushi rice

Items to try: Scallop and Edamame Bisque, Sashimi Sampler, or any Sashami for that matter, Shrimp Shumai, College Roll, Full Sail Roll, Japanese Roll, Spicy Mango Roll... shall I go on? I can't stop! It is all so good :)

Wazzabi is a chic Japanese sushi restaurant in Winter Park.  Situated  directly across the street from Winter Park Village, Wazzabi can get busy quickly.  Waits aren't unusual, but the service is almost always friendly and outgoing.  I've never had an unpleasant experience to date!

All of the sashimi and rolled sushi are fresh and tasty.  In addition to the standard fare Americanized-California Rolls, you will be able to find some fusion concocted rolls and some authentic Japanese dishes.

Of all the dishes I've had at Wazzabi, my personal favorite is the Tim Salad.  It's not the most Japanese dish off the menu, but it has a flavor that I can't resist.  Consisting on fried soft shelled crabs, spicy mayo, masago and avocado, the Tim Salad is served on a small bed of mixed greens.  All I can say is that it is superb!

I've eaten at Wazzabi twice and been pleasantly surprised both times.  They have quite the extensive selection of sushi.  They have some excellent combinations and a little bit of something for everyone.  I would highly recommend the "Mount St. Fire."

The thing I liked about Wazzabi was that even their simple rolls were tasty and well executed.  This last time, I ordered the Philly Roll and it was GREAT and huge.  We also had their edamame, which they will add spice to if you ask.  We had ours spiced up quite a bit and it was HOT!

The drinks are fairly overpriced, with most of their martinis ringing in at over 10 bucks.  Wazzabi can be a little pretentious, but luckily they are redeemed by the fact that their food is actually quite good!

I love the how they experiment with "fusion" Japanese.  So it is nice spin on the regular Japanese/Sushi places.   The presentation was outstanding.  I had their Gyoga, Crispy Calamari and Edamame (which was salted just right).  It was a great little find and I would go back in a heartbeat.

The sushi here is awesome.  The servers are very knowledgeable.  I always seem to get John G. (which reminds me of Memento), he's an excellent server.  The atmosphere is very nice.  It's a good place for a date, or for a group of friends, or for a business meeting.  There is a bar if you have to wait for a table.  There is a hibachi room which is separated from the regular dining area, so if you don't want hibachi you won't get the smoke from it.

It's a cool place, the food is excellent, the service is fantastic.  It is a little pricey, though.  And if I remember right you have to use valet parking.  If you don't mind spending a little dough, it's worth it.

Wwooooowwww!! This place is great! Slightly upscale sushi/Japanese. They have flavored sake and a full bar (not too many beer selections from what I saw, but that's not really what you look for in a sushi place, is it?). I sat at the bar while I had the wasabi pea-encrusted scallops and then the Full Sail roll. That was enough to fill me up, but your mileage may vary. Highly recommend. It was not loud or crowded on this night (Tuesday).

WOW!  I've passed this delicious delightful spot so many times and I should be ashamed of myself for it!  Wazzabi is located directly across from the Winter Park Village on 17-92 and can be found on Gay St.

The price tag is pretty normal for the upscale Winter Park Village restauranteurs but is totally worth it because the sushi is unique and fresh, and their entrees are a medley of flavor and are always presented extremely well. I have gone three times in the past month just for their yellow tail sashimi!

Wazzabi Sushi is one of those places you drive by all the time and think to yourself how great it looks but never get the chance to try it.  Well I have finally gotten the chance to try it and I am not disappointed.  The price is decent, especially compared to Winter Park which can be a bit pricey.
The wait staff has always been friendly the few times I have been there, and the sushi selection is fresh as always.  Wazzabi also has hibachi, so if you are not in the mood for sushi you have other options.  All in all, I would definitely recommend Wazzabi for the tasty and original sushi selections.

    Wazzabi? Yes Please!
My only disappointment? That'd be that my date chose most of our selections...all that I'm not fond of anywhere. But on that note the ones that I actually ordered on my own accord were my fav so far in Orlando! I ordered the ALBACORE ALMOND ROLL which was topped with seared albacore, almonds and what else but Eel sauce!, and was simply phenomenal the way the flavors played off of each other. The edamame was perfectly seasoned, and the tuna kobachi was surprisingly fresh and mildly spiced. It even turned a 'never before' kobachi eater into a rather obsessed fanatic. Two glasses of sweet Riesling, 2 orders of sake, Rainbow roll and a Spicy Tuna roll is about all we could handle! While I usually avoid most spicy rolls and the Rainbow at all cost, I mean it has no eel and no flair so really why bother in my opinion, but I can at least appreciate their freshness at Wazzabi!

Kickers: Super fresh, modern atmosphere, trendy and big portions.

Fails: Tad pricey but overall worth it

Diamondism: Perfect date place with some phenom-sushi!

There are so many great things about this place. When you walk in you feel almost like its two restaurants. The sushi/ main dinning room and then the hibachi room. Which is enclosed in a large glass room.
On this particular visit we were in need of some hibachi cooking. Only problem with hibachi ( and its like this everywhere) is your not really waiting for a table to open your waiting for a table to fill. It was a Monday night so filling that table was somewhat slow but I expected that. When we were seated ( 2 of us) it was with a birthday taking up the rest of the table of 9. Awkward decided to wait the extra 20 minutes for a birthday.
All I can say about the food is YUM YUM YUM. I don't know what that white sauce is but I love it. There vegetable's are amazing the steak is so juicy (got the NY Strip), the rice is always cooked perfect, the noodles are fantastic and the chef is always entertaining. Its definitely a LOT of food though so you'll have stuff to take home unless you share. If you like hibachi this definitely tops Kobe.

I wouldn't recommend this place for a romantic date but it would be a fun dinner. Prices are pretty typical of a hibachi place. Happy Hour at the bar has some great deals on Sushi and Drinks.

Wazzabi is the best sushi in Orlando hands down (to be fair, I've never tried their hibachi grill). The fish is so fresh and the rolls are each delicious. The stuffed Tuna appetizer is fantastic!! It's a must have each time I visit!

Wazzabi is a solid-3 star establishment. It has really cool decor and the food is decent. The service however leaves much to be desired. I recently had lunch here. The edamame was good, just the right amount of salt. I had the College Roll and the Sweet Potato roll. Both very flavorful. The College Roll is a signature roll for the restaurant and the Sweet Potato is pretty standard. My dining mates tried two of the lunch boxes and two other rolls. We were all satisfied with our meals. The service was slow and it seemed like our waitress was the only one in the entire dining area. She was trying to be helpful, but was just running around a lot. So if you are going, be sure to give yourself some time.

Great sushi join in Orlando!  The Tuna Crab wrapped rolls on the appetizer menu are amazing.  All of the fish is very fresh and all of the specialty rolls are worth trying.

This isn't usually high on my places to go for sushi just because I kinda forget about it. But once I remember and go, I'm like "oh yeah!!! now I remember why I like this place!"  Its cozy and comfy and the food is pretty good.  It's not my number one place to go for sushi, but it's not bad at all. Plus they have good martinis and I recently had a salad there and it was very flavorful and very tasty!
I was impressed with how they accomidated us as well. I called at 7:30 and asked if they could seat 7 of us for 8:00...on a Saturday night...they said "Sure, come on over".  They were definetly busy when we got there but they put tables together and helped us out. They even brought out a birthday cake for our friend on such notice and were very helpful.
I do have a few cons, which might be just our server, but we had all gotten drinks at the bar while waiting but she still took about 20 minutes to keep asking if we wanted drinks before letting us order. Second, my salad that I ordered as my entre was brought out about 10 minutes before everyone elses entres were served...so that was kinda awkward. So...since that's my only cons, then it's not so bad. :D
Check it out, they have rolls that are different than I've seen on other menus and they also have other Asian inspired dishes.

While the Miso soup and sushi rolls I had were pretty good, I experienced the same cold, disinterested service from the staff. The decor is nice and the restaurant is clean. The specialty roll I got was fresh and flavorful. Overall the service was enough of a turnoff that I would go somewhere else I prefer like Seito in Baldwin Park.

I'm not a big fan of fusion sushi.  My wife is not a big fan of raw fish.  Oh what to do?

We've been here twice, and both times we've been very pleased.  The fish is very fresh, and the veggie sushi rolls are pleasant.

I'd skip the Wazzabi Crunch roll that I had last night, it has crushed wasabi peas.

The Spicy Tuna roll is my barometer for sushi.  The fish is really good, but lacked the kick of other places.

We've seen kids here, probably twelve or older.  They seemed to get along fine.

I was a little disappointed that I did not get a printed sushi list.  As I stated, I like simple sushi, not elaborate combination as were offered on the menu.   When I asked for one, the waiter replied he was the sushi list.  I'd rather be able to choose myself.

I honestly can say I eat Wazzabi at least once a week, but I've been known to indulge up to three times a week if it's a really bad one.  I've dined there a few times, but mostly I pick up take-out from the bar.  I always get the edamame and the Fantastic Roll because, well, it's Fantastic!  The Pear Saki tastes sweet, crisp, and clean; the Guava Cheesecake has less creamy cheese and more cake which I really liked.  Wazzabi is the best sushi/Japanese restaurant in town!

    Next on the sushi list...Wazzabi.

Wazzabi holds a special place in my heart not only because the food is fantastic and has been every time I have gone there, but also because it was where my boyfriend and I went on our very first date together. I am never disappointed when I come here and have never had a bad experience...which is something I can't say for most of my favorite places to go.

This sushi restaurant is one of those places that you can go to for a special occasion, to hang out with friends or on a romantic date. The food is amazing. My favorite basic rolls include the rainbow and spider rolls. For the chef rolls, the more fancy ones, I love the gumbo, firecracker, king of the ocean and angel rolls. The gumbo features yellowtail, tuna, salmon, white tuna, redsnapper, avocado, asparagus, served with ponzu sauce, but I prefer to soak it in eel sauce or the lite soy sauce. The firecraker roll contains Salmon, yellowtail, cucumber, enoki mushrooms, topped with tuna, tempura crunch, tobiko and jalapeños, but I usually do without the last ingredient. The king of the ocean is my overall favorite and it has Tuna, salmon, white tuna, red snapper, cucumber, avocado and mushroom, topped with yellowtail, smoked salmon and eel sauce. I love  that there is a lot of fish in this one, which means its actually not that bad as far as calories and fat are concerned. Lastly, the angel roll has Tuna, salmon, yellowtail, white tuna, kani, asparagus, scallion, spicy Japanese mayo, topped with tempura carrot and diakion, finished with a spicy, sweet sauce.

If you're not much of a raw fish, sushi person, they offer a plethora of other, cooked items as well. You can choose to order one of the teppan dishes or sit on the teppan/hibachi side. If you're not familiar with this kind of cooking, it's where the Japanese chef prepares your food right in front of you. This is my favorite place to go to for this type of cuisine because they're one of the best. The filet mignon, chicken and shrimp are my choice picks, but you really can't go wrong with anything. If you really want sushi too, you can order it, but you're limited to certain rolls, which includes most of the good ones. The chefs are always very entertaining with their broken English and tricks on the grill. However, be warned that this side of the restaurant is very small so try making a reservation before venturing over there.

The bar is full service and can make anything your heart desires. The restaurants decor is gorgeous and not what you find in most sushi restaurants. It's very modern in decor and color scheme, with bright blues and reds, along with black and white throughout. As odd as this may sound, I love the bathrooms. Everything is automatic, which fascinates me every time I go there. The wait staff are always very sweet and good about staying on top of everything. Parking is limited and you'll most likely have to valet unless you want to park elsewhere and walk. However, all you have to do is tip because the service itself is free to customers.

Overall, definitely a place you NEED to try if you're a sushi lover like myself!
